[Q] Note Taking on Touchpad? - TouchPad General

Now that I'm assured I'm getting a touchpad, the burning question remains; is there some type of note taking app I can use, or am I forced to use the on screen keyboard, or a bluetooth keyboard to type notes during class?

This is exactly what I was wondering!

maybe I'm reading it different but I think the OP is looking for an app that does hand written notes both those apps suggested do not have that option
am looking for the same, very surprised nobody has come up with something, there must be 10/20 ipad apps that do this so I assume there's a market for the app its something I use everyday on my ipad

There is an app called Just Draw in the store which may be what you are looking for.

It hasn't been released yet but I think this is what the OP is looking for: LINK

That's the best/only I've found too. It seems more for making doodles, but it should work.

This sounds neat. I hope it comes out well.

If you setup a chroot enviroment you can use cellwrite for OCR handwriting or xournal for regular note taking and annotating pdfs.

What apps would you like to see?

Hey guys,
Are there any (simple)tablet specific apps you guys would really like to see? I'm no star programmer(2nd year software eng. student with no experience before university) and I'm certainly not an android pro(really just got into android development in January) but I'll see what I can do. I've been working on some simple phone apps but I'd really like to get started with some apps for honeycomb.
If there are any fans of theoatmeal.com, I'm thinking my first honeycomb app will just be a simple viewer for his comics. Nothing complicated, just a list of comics on the side, with an image view which you can swipe to change panes in the comic and then some tabs at the top to filter(all, cats, grammar, food, animals, tech - just like on the website). I wish I could work on it this weekend but I'm leaving for my parent's in about half an hour and I don't have my laptop with me(just my galaxy tab 10.1).
Anyway, let me know what you'd like to see.
Automatic about :debug desktop view app.
A deviantart app so I can see images quicker and easier.
that's actually a good idea. It's really frustrating to have to put that in every time. Not sure how to do it exactly, but I doubt it would be too hard.
I've never used deviantart myself but that is something I could look into.
I'm thinking of trying to make an app that can send text messages when connected to a phone via bluetooth. Not sure if it will happen but it should be an interesting project. I was originally planning on doing it with google's push api but that would be more work and probably isn't necessary(do you really want to receive text messages on your tablet when it's not in range of your phone? I wouldn't).
That would be useful. Heck even away from the phone would be useful for many people. When "away" SMS gets forwarded to email or gv.
I believe blackberry playbook has a lot of functionality between phone and tablet. Anything to increase the handshake between android tablet phone would be great. Even if its a chrome2phone style sending a map or website back and forth.
Data recorder
For some reason the 3G watchdog app doesnt work correctly on my galaxy tab 10.1v. A working app designed for the tablet would be nice, unless other people have other suggestions I could try out.

I'm a student and would like to see more apps that I could use like the notebook app for the htc flyer. Something that looks professional and simple. Like having a word document on your tab. There's a few out there but none that are entirely convincing. From what i've heard there are apps for other tabs that can record lectures, have word recognition, among other really awesome things. Assus has a decent app for it too I guess, but i'd like to see it on the galaxy tab 10.1 forsure.

You can turn the word prediction on in keyboard settings for Samsung's keyboard. it's called XT9 prediction. Even the stock honeycomb keyboard does have prediction.
I wasn't entirely convinced by the stock keyboard nor Samsung's keyboard so I bought Thumb Keyboard from the Market. I haven't looked back since
A Flipboard style app would be pretty nice, it's about the only app I miss from my iPad (besides Netflix & HBO Go).

I'm developing an app just for this purpose. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133277
Netflix Netflix and Netflix please
oh and maybe Netflix?
Swype 3.0 is awesome on the SGT, few bugs but great features. I have a challenge for the college student. Create a lockscreen replacement for honeycomb where you can define app shortcuts to place around the unlock circle similar to the unlock icon and drag the smaller circle to each shortcut to launch the app. Similar to sense 3.0 but for honeycomb!

How does this compare to SMSSync? Can you post screenshots?
An app that can read ebooks and comics. Has a notepad feature and has flip page animation for all of them.
A decent effing sports app that has favorite teams, a working widget, and is usable in both portrait and landscape.

Good Notetaking App ?

I've been struggling with finding a good note-taking app for the NT. Mind you the best ones out there (like Quill; queue: envy) are only compatible for Honeycomb or ICS. So until CM9 is complete, I'm stuck looking for something compatible with Gingerbread.
One is dealing with the palm recognition that glitches out the stylus' path in the app. This, I've "solved" this by placing a cloth beneath my hand while writing with a stylus.
The remaining problem is an app that can keep up. Sketchbook Mobile and Drawing Pad actually are the most accurate that I've tried, but they're slow and laggy and not meant for note taking. I've tried FreeNote, Note Plus, and Note Everything to find that they struggle to capture script-like handwriting accurately.
Does anyone have any ideas? Suggestions? If not, I'm suck carrying a pad of paper to class until CM9 is complete.
I use Evernote and Springpad those are the best, primarily because they can sync your notes to all your devices, so you never lose them .

Try Evernote Skitch. May not be the perfect app you're looking for, but I use it to jot down notes.
Or Evernote + Swype.

[Q] Looking for note taking app(with stylus)like notes plus (for ipad) --> palm pad!
Hey there,
I am looking for some app for android with a palm pad like the app notes plus for ipad has it
http://notesplusapp.com/
I found "make notes beta" but it is really not much more of a beta i have the feeling with input being very buggy and so on.
Does anyone have an idea if there is something like that?
Or is there a way to somehow deactivate multitouch support for some time in order to write with a stylus?
Thanks for your help!

Take a look at Skitch, it supports annotation and writing with a stylus. It also integrates well with Evernote, which is great for storing and taking all kinds of notes, with cross platform support.

I had a look at it but from the looks of the youtube video it seems like all the persons writing there definitely lift their palm / wrist when writing. Is there any palm rejection/ some kind of pad?
Thanks for your help already!

New S-note app

any idea what the s-note app will be like on the note 10.1 2014 edition, especially syncing with dropbox, importing pdf's and formats it can be saved as?
The new snote features looks really awesome! Definitely a buy for school! Can't wait

I'm also interested in this. I use dropsync and import and export a lot of PDFs. I'm assuming you'll be able to do this at the very least. I'm also stoked that you can open multiple instances of the same app. Now I'll be able to work in two notes at once.
The new S-Pen features seem pretty promising as well. I'm interested to see how customizable the air commands are (if they are at all).

Lecturenotes supports those active pen and does all the pdf import export etc. So even if the snote sucks youve still got a damn good alternative. I did read that the s pen air commands ARE customizable,so thats a plus.
That's true. I've heard good things about Lecturenotes, but since I've become so used to S notes and since lecturenotes is a paid app I'm hoping S notes will be as good as it is now on the old 10.1 model.

Lecturenotes is the most vesatile note app ive used. Different page types and styles, pdf imports, typing, drawing, shapes, layers evernote exporting. Couldnt be happier which i heard about it a year beore i did. Snote + lecturenotes and you couldnt possibly go wrong on the GN 10.1 too many options.
Try S-pen voice. Theres a free trail that limits you to 10 pages. But its a very simple program that records while you write and lets you play it back. You can see as you write the notes when its playing back or just tap somewhere and it will start the audio from there. Its great!

[Solved]What's a free note taking application that has a Windows Desktop Client?

Hi All!
As it says in the title, can someone recommend a good note taking application that has a desktop application?
I've read a bit about the topic and Evernote comes to mind. However, it's not free. Thanks in advance.
Bumping this to the first page.
AFAIK, Evernote is free with additional features added in a premium subscription. If you are looking to something completely free and lightweight, try Google Keep, it provides web access and also Chrome extension.

Yes, Evernote is indeed free up to a certain point but 60MB, even for full text notes, isn't sufficient.
I tried migrating my notes to Keep right now and I think this might actually work. I've read about it in the past but it didn't appeal to me because of the lack of an actual desktop client (I never used Chrome Apps before). Thanks for suggesting it!
Pros:
1. Very clean interface
2. Offline note taking and viewing in both the Chrome Application (More on this later) and the mobile client.
3. All features are free!
4. Sync seems to work flawlessly
Cons:
1.Chrome Application means I have to sign in to Chrome and disable all syncing except for Apps as I don't like syncing my data onto Google.
2. Chrome Application is preventing me from maximizing notes as I edit them. I have wall-of-text type of notes and this really hurts my eyes. I suppose this can be remedied by changing my note taking habits.
3. I can't re-order my notes. They are shown in ascending order by date created?
All in all I think I can make this work. I just need to re-arrange my notes for this specific application. If anyone else has any input or can show me how to relieve myself of the OCD inducing annoyances I've found so far, please chime in
I haven't really used Google keep yet (already a long time user of evernote) but have you looked into one note by Microsoft? It has a free version. Lifehacker.com just did an in depth comparison of evernote and one note. Might be worth looking in to.

Yes, I recently saw that article. But this completely shut down the idea for me. Apparently, I'm only able to use this in the paid version:
Create notebooks on your PC. Create notebooks saved to your hard drive (offline) in addition to being saved to your OneDrive. Being able to work with notebooks offline as well as online is great for anyone with a spotty network connection or those who are always on the go.

But, I'm not so sure I understand what it means. Basically, I need to be able to access my notes offline (I don't have a mobile data plan) and once online, be able to sync them again. Since you folks seem to have experience using it, can you tell me how it works?
Honestly, I was able to see the UI of OneNote and it seemed a lot more appealing to me.
I tried out one note briefly awhile ago and it should do what you want. The paragraph you quoted seems to say the same. The notes are saved offline and they sync with your one drive account.

The paragraph I quoted is specifically under the "What do I get in the premium version of this application" section. However, I guess it wouldn't hurt to try. I'll download it now and see how it functions. Will let you guys know. Thanks for the advice!:good:

Accessing it from there has the same exact interface as the Keep Chrome Application. Thanks for the suggestion though
I still wasn't able to find the time to test out the free version of OneNote. Been a bit busy today. I suppose I could take a note that I should test OneNote in Google Keep which I'm currently using
I'll make a short review once I'm done doing just that.
Thanks for all the suggestions!
Edit - It seems I haven't found the time to review OneNote. In addition, Keep serves me very well. The only real caveat I have with it is the inability to reorder my notes.
Edit 2- It seems my brain is tired and after a week with no suggestions from other users, I've finally figured out how to move notes around.
One simply needs to click and drag the notes around. < How I didn't figure this one out seems baffling to me. I need to exercise my brain more :'(
