lock screen lag after flashing ROM. ODIN does not return to stock? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed over Bionix V 1.3.1 with NextGen V2 last week by wiping data/cache/etc instead of flashing back to stock first. Everything worked really well (except for TW4 that force closes everytime) but I was just a little bugged by the 1 sec lag it takes to turn on the lock screen from sleep (the lag is absent when charging). I thought I would ODIN it back to stock and try again. Strangely, the stock has this lag now too. When I try to wipe Dalvik, I got an error "E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (File exists)". Also, my phone is still SIM unlocked after ODIN. Does this mean there are some parameters from previous flashes remaining in the system? How can I REALLY get it back to stock?

with windows plug the phone into pc then right click on the internal sd on my computer then format, should get rid of anything left from previous roms, remember to back your stuff up
dont know how to do it on mac

Thanks, will try that.
Another (silly?) question: it's always advised we leave the phone alone for ~15min before we reboot and play with it. Whenever I flash Bionix ROMS, the first thing upon reboot after flashing is a question from Google about knowing my location (or something like that). Does 15min starts the moment the phone reboots or after I've responded to the question?

id leave it from the moment it first comes on before
when i was flashing between 2.2 roms i always went back to simply galaxy and that had the old start up thing but i use to leave it before going through it then reboot then go through it then reboot after
1 reboot should do it though

Tried formatting but no improvement. Tried softlocker app and was able to turn on the lock screen instantly. However, I was losing about 5% battery life every hour, so that's not quite a solution. I then tried something really simple - remove the external SD. Immediately, I could see a reduction in lag when turning on the lockscreen from sleep (<0.5s vs >1s, if you call that a lag). It seems like the external SD card is the problem but I don't know what. The card seems to be lacking the ext2 partition, thus it couldn't be mounted or formatted in CWM. From what I understand, ext2 may improve I/O performance but I may be wrong. I couldn't get it to partition in my phone. The phone seems to format it back to FAT. I'll try getting a microSD adapter and partition it outside the phone and see if it helps, just out of curiosity.

[Q] LG P500 random shutdown

My O1 shuts down every few hours by itself. As everybody told me, i removed the sd card to see if that is the problem, but it still shuts down. Al this "shutdown frenzy" started after i flashed the first custom rom, Void.
I flashed back via nand recovery, i did all possible stuff, but nothing. As i tried reinstalling the original firmware i found out that i coudnt, theres no firmware for Romania, and the KDZ crashez on my machine...
Any suggestions on this one?

Strange... it's really hard way to resolve, but what about some logging on SDCARD? Problem is that it can be really huge file. And Murphy law... it definitely will not restart for many hours...
I just bought a class 6 sd card, i'm testing it, maybe it's the card that shuts down the phone... i'll post the result tomorrow.
Lol man , I have the V10B for romania . I can give it to you on messenger if you add me : zerobarat1 .
Cheers
I had void with gapps, gingerbread, kernel, a2sd, blink, tapps folders on sd. Then I flashed milk_os kernel. Everything was fine.
Then I created stage fright and hwacc folders for quadrant testing. Something happened my neocore score was only 9 fps (though quadrant was 1100). I deleted stage fright, hwacc and kernel folders. Phone was fine again. But was going to sleep of death after some time of non usage. Didn't reboot even from power button. Had to take put and reinsert battery.
So I created the kernel folder again and rebooted. Went into recovery again and applied milk_os kernel again and rebooted. Everything is fine now.
Something remotely similar happened to me a while ago. I found the phone turned off without any particular reason and it refused to power on until I removed and reinserted the battery. It had me worried, but fortunately this didn't happened again ever since.
My problem seems unsolved. I also found my phone dead two times again only in last 4 hours.
Guys any solution. I have void with a2sd enabled and with mik_os kernel 1.1
Did you have the same problem when you were on stock? It might be a physical fault rather than the rom. Also, I believe the latest void already have mik_os kernel 1.1? So there was no need to flash it again.
a2sd maybe? I read quite a lot of issues with that thing.
Miks kernel 1.1 has some scrolling bugs, flash 1.0 and maybe problems solved
I applied mik_os v 1.0. Now everything seems ok for last 16 hours. Will notice further.
Everything ok till now. May be it was something related to mik_ os 1.1.
With 1.0 problem seems to be fixed as of now.
Try dev kernel v3, it's enhanced version of mik's v1.0 kernel
Sorry to say, but this damn bug stroke again. I just found my phone dead, unwilling to reboot unless I took out the battery (which, by the way, was 94% full).
I'm using void #alpha with a2sd and mik_os kernel 1.0 and I don't have the sdcard unmount problem. I can't tell if this also happens on stock ROM since I don't intend to go back to stock ROM until LG rolls out the 2.3 version.
Waiting for some stock ROM user input, but my guess is that this is hardware related.
Any help?
That happens to me all the time!! I took it to LG center and they said it's because of software problem. Anyway, now my phone has one problem. I accidentally made the locker apps to make default screen and it totally black out my home screen. I can't access to my setting to get rid of this apps or can't make even calls. I tried restarting again and again but it doesn't work. How can I uninstall the apps on phone storage by using PC? Or any better way to solve it. I'm a beginner to Android. So, please kindly help me. It is so annoying.
Hit the search button on phone and if search screen appears, type settings in it. If you are able to reach settings, you can do everything from there. Try playing with the search button on the phone.
If this does not help, you will have to do a factory reset. You can do a factory reset by the pressing the combo of home + vol down + power on buttons if you are on stock rom. If other rom, do via recovery.

same here too .... (when the phone turn off the screen automatically...or auto suspend...is the same) i have the #echo and .... i have the random power off and... some times... it keeps on the boot loop when it supous to suspend... butn when i suspend the phone whit the power button ... the phone keeps working fine... i dont know what to do... XD
I got the class 6 SD and since then i had no problems with shutdown. Though at the time i'm writing, my O1 is at service. It seemed that the shutdowns are related to the sd, even if you don't get any unmount errors. My logs say that each time the phone shut down, it was trying to access a service from the sd memory, and, guess what, there was no sd! So it closed all the services.
could it be unmounting sd card?
After a long time of checking how to fix this, I, finally found it.
I had this error several times, and, I always tried to check where it was the error. I did a factory reset and, suddenly this error stopped. But I needed to know exactly by "doing what" this error appeared.
This error appears in one of this two:
- if you dissactivate the "rotation" in your phone.
- if you dissable bluetooth in your phone
One of those two. If I dissable this two, my phone, in about 1 hour, it suddenly shutdown. But inmmediatly if I enable this options, its stops to crash.
You can toogle this options with the "battery" widget in your phone.
I hope this will help you, as it helped me. Plz, tell all the ppl about, how to fix this.

[Solved][Q] Screen keeps shutting down. Please Help!

Okey, my problem is this.
I have installed the phone locator beta from their website. Like the name says it's an app to see where your phone is if it gets stolen, wipe it through sms and do some other stuff. I did not manage to finish the application setup cause I got a phone call during the process. After that I'm locked out of the phone and the phone screen keeps shutting down. It instantly shuts back down after I turn it on. It stays on for like half a sec sometimes, sometimes less. I have managed to uninstall the application through adb to no avail. I have made a backup through recovery also hoping I will be able to restore it without getting the same problem.
But it appears that if I restore the data I get the same thing happening.
Other things I have tried:
Reflashing ROM. It's the stock one from Vodafone.
Reflashing CF-Root Kernel.
Trying to figure out which process I have to kill through adb. But I'm not experienced enough with this to do it.
Trying to remove everything about the app I find out. Still did not work.
Anyone has another idea. I really had a lot of data I don't want to lose.
Thank you.
Update: Solved in post 3.

What I would do is enter recovery mode. From there mount usb storage and transfer everything that's important to PC. Then wipe everything, format system, format sd card and reflash a ROM through CWM. Obviously mount again usb storage to push the ROM from PC to sd card. Maybe it's a little drastic but I can't think of anything else since I'm not a pro user or anything. Well, just an idea.
Hey thomas. Thanks a lot.
I think that's a great idea. At least it's something I did not try and might work well.
I just found out that you can enter usb storage from recovery, right now it seems I can only see the /mnt/sdcard partition. I will play with it a little to see if I can mount the other partitions before mounting USB. I think the application data is in /data/data am I right?
Okey I have managed to fixed it in the most stupid way possible.
I have noticed that if I leave the screen off for like 15 seconds then I get like 2 seconds window before the screen turns off again. I have managed to go to the screen timeout settings and it seems like the application changed that to a very low value as none of the defaults value were ticked. I have ticked the 1 minute value and now the screen stays on.
I have uninstalled the app and I'm really afraid to test it again I should probably make another backup in this state

[Q] Device goes into Kernel Panic faster than I can make any change

I've had Cyanogenmod 9 nightlies on my SGS2 since April. I didn't install every single one, but pretty much only those with good ratings, specifically those that had no complains about battery drain and heating...
Currently on the 06-28-2012 nightly. This ran fine at first, but over time, it started to occasionally crash into Kernel Panic. I figured I'd just pick a new nightly, but then I ended up having to travel and installation of a new nightly got delayed.
Now I'm home, and I can't use the phone at all, cause it crashes into Kernel Panic almost as soon as I unlock the screen after Android finishes booting. The last thing I see up in the message bar is "WhatsApp error" and the screen goes dark. It won't stay on long enough for me to uninstall WhatsApp or select factory reset from the system menu.
I don't think its a problem with WhatsApp, cause WhatsApp used to run fine, while Kernel Panics originally mainly seemed to happen after I got a "storage full" message. In response, I deleted a load of pictures after rebooting, to make sure there's free space, but it kept crashing occasionally, till now, its just unusable.
I've tried to flash a stock Samsung ROM (I9100XWLPG_I9100XXLPX_I9100NEELP4_HOME.tar.md5) but that hasn't been working either.
Kies drivers are installed on my Laptop. Odin sees the phone too.
I followed the instructions from the rom page, changed no settings in Odin, just picked PDA and selected the ROM.
Odin goes "Added" when I plug in the phone, verifies the ROM, then the whole thing hangs on "setting up connection"
So I unplug, pull the battery and then reboot, which works fine, but once booted, it won't stay on longer than a few seconds.
Anyway, does anyone have any clever ideas how I can get out of this Kernel Panic loop?

What's preventing you from factory resetting from recovery?
Lack of knowledge is preventing me!
How do you factory reset from the "Kernel Panic Download Mode"...?
Download Android Commander from here:
http://androidcommander.com/
Boot your phone, don't unlock.
Start Android Commander, navigate to /data/apps and delete WhatsApp's apk (com.whatsapp1.apk or something like that) or rename it to .apk.bak
Restart your phone without unlocking.
Hope the errors gone.

[Q] Non-stop crashing and rebooting

Hello, guys. First of all, I'd like to apologize in advance for my bad english. If there is any part of the message that isn't very clear, please inform me so I can correct it.
Here's the deal: I've been using for some time the Jelly Bean Ressuction Remix Rom from Westcrip.
Since about a month and a half (since version 3.9, I believe), I've been getting some weird and random signal drops. Back then, I had to manually reboot my phone so the data connection would come back. At the time I thought it was because the rom was still a nightly build, not very stable, so I coped with it.
This problem has worsen considerably since one or two weeks ago: those "signal drops" have become more and more regular. And following the signal drop, the screen would flicker a little and then the phone would automatically turn off. When I turn the phone back on, the battery is almost depleted, even tho it was full right before the crash. Again I'd blame the RR from Westcrip (by the time I was using the version 3.1.0). When version 3.1.2 came out, I did a clean installation (wipe data/factory reset/format system partition/wipe cache and dalvik, etc), even changed the kernels (used both Dorimanx and Siyah), a lot of modems, and still got this same problem: signal drop (usually when the phone is under a relative amount of stress, like playing Angry Birds, browsing the web, and even while using whatsapp!!!) followed by the phone turning itself off.
I then thought: what the hell, the problem has to be with the rom, not my phone. Then, I tried installing different roms (Paranoid Android and Slim Bean), and still got the same results. If anything, the phone is rebooting even more often now than before. I can't use it for 15 straight minutes and I get that problem,
Since this has happened with all these different roms I dont believe its related specifically to any of those.
Another strange thing: this "signal drop" followed by the rebooting only happens when the phone is disconnected from any power source and being actively used by me. If I'm recharging it, for example, the phone wont reboot at all. Also, if it is over my desk but I'm not using it, the phone also wont reboot. However, if I take it out from the power source and starting using it, I'll get another reboot in about 5-10 minutes of use.
I searched the forum and didnt find anyone with a similar problem... have any of you guys seem this happen before? I'm beggining to think that my phone is gonna die on me anyday now.
Regards!!

Hey,
pls backup ur apps and then do this:
0) Do a nandroid Backup via recovery
-- backup and restore
-- backup to internal (or external) sd card
1) Download Rom
2) Put it on internal sd card
3) Go into recovery mode
4) DO A FULL WIPE!! (U won't loose ur backup on sd card [but u can copy it to PC, too, if u want])
-- wipe data/ factory reset
-- wipe cahe partition
-- advanced > wipe dalvik cache
-- mount and storage > format data/system/cache
5) Then flash Rom
-- install .zip from sd card > choose .zip from sd card
-- Select the downloaded Custom Rom and flash it
6) Then flash Gapps
-- install .zip from sd card > choose .zip from sd card
-- Select the downloaded Custom Rom and flash it
7) Recovery > wipe cache partition
8) Recovery > advanced > wipe dalvik cache
9) Then flash Dorimanx
-- install .zip from sd card > choose .zip from sd card
-- Select the downloaded Custom Rom and flash it
6) Reboot and u r done!

Hi, thanks a lot fot the help.
I did all the steps above and I'm still getting the same results...
Another thing to notice is that yhe phone gets really hot for apparently no reason at all (like booting up, running aLogcat and other minor apps), and when that happens, I usually get a signal drop (if the phone is plugged in it wont reboot, if its not, it will reboot).
Is there anything else I can try?
Updating: I've been restoring my old nandroid backups for the whole day to see if the problem had anything to do with Jelly Bean. Well, I've gone back to the old ICS days and every version of it had the same random and constant rebooting. Even versions that didn't have any problem before.
I'm beggining to think I have a hardware failure of some sort. Do any of you guys know what could cause this kind of hardware failure? Since the phone has been getting hot for no apparent reason, it seems to me its a problem with the SGS2 cooler. Is that even possible?
OK so I have this problem but only when using my backup battery. (Not official). When It gets around 30% it begins to make my screen flicker and loose signal and just die.
So maybe you haven't got an original (official) battery in your s2?
Sent from my Galaxy SII
I dont think I have an unofficial battery. Its the same battery that came with the phone (bought from Amazon), and also, mine says Samsung on the back. Dunno if its enough to assume its official. Is there another way to check if my battery is official?

Screen turning on randomly

Hey Everyone,
I am having an issue with my screen turning on randomly on my phone. Its a Verizon Note 2 (hence me posting in this section). I'd like to think I've done some troubleshooting but I want somebody else to tell me that I am not insane.
So far what I've done:
1. Flashed Custom Rom - CM11 in this case. Screen turning on and off is persistent between stock and CM leading me to believe hardware problems.
2. Took phone apart, unplugged power button from motherboard. Booted phone back up and disconnected. With the cable disconnected it still persisted.
3. Taking a page from some other threads on XDA I have tried the key test in CWM. My screen was turning on every 1-2 minutes and right now its been sitting for 15 minutes with no key presses registered (with the cable re-connected).
So with all of that being done I'm assuming its an issue with something that Google is restoring to my phone? Does that sound like a logical conclusion? Before I factory reformat and not have anything restore I just wanted to post up and verify.
As a second question - is there a good way to clear all the internal memory before I do a fresh format of CM11 (if i go that direction tonight?) I still have folders on the internal SD card from my stock install that i would like wiped out.
Thank you all in advance: I love this site. I've been flashing every phone i've owned from the guidance here but very rarely post.

To format the internal SD card, reboot into recovery (sounds like you use cwm), go to 'mounts and storage' and wipe 'sdcard' or 'data/media.' I havent used cwm in a while so I cant remember the exact wording.
While in mounts and storage go ahead and wipe 'system' and wipe 'data' as well before installing the new rom. Before installing a new rom you should always wipe system and data.
As far as the screen randomly turning on it does sound logical that it could be google restoring to your phone. Im guessing that you don't see new notifications in the status bar? How long did you let the phone sit after installing a new rom?
Whichever way I doubt it's hardware.
If you format and reinstall dont choose to restore from Google servers. If the problem still persists then there are ways to know what's waking up your phone.
