Suggestions for kernel/mod? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Powerwashed 1.2 with pbj 8-8 kernel seems to be the most reliable for a lot of people. If your phone cannot handle the under volt then use pw otb 8-15 kernel. Your radio should be ed 05

My bad, can someone move it? haha
Thanks laureanop, I'll for sure look into those, I just have no starting point, everything is a lot easier on my OG droid... and my droid 2 has only a few options so that makes it easier too hahaha

For me, MIUI has the best battery life and is just great in general. I recommend giing it a try; it has a few issues but nothing major. The pros outweigh the cons.

OTB Over Clock kernel and Evil Fascination ROM play well together on mine, thought you can have some radio issues (it was a pain to fix but my how to is on here somewhere) if you are going to do this from another non stock image.

I just installed power washed with the pbj kernel for now (not big on miui personally, feels unorganized like iOS and wasn't a huge fan on my OG Droid... Of course that was back when it like first came out lol i'm sure it's allot better now) i'm just waiting on the verdict from her on battery life and performance, played with it some last night and it felt great (especially after putting launcher pro instead of go launcher, which is nice but just didn't have that snappy feel I like) but you know everything seems fast @ first, we'll see after a couple days...
I'm sure it'll be allot better than stock either way lol
Edit: thank new I'll check that out if she's not big on the current setup, I see allot of people liking evil, so that was on my list of thing to try, just was not sure what to pair with, thanks!

CM7 + Glitch's Kernel.

Yeah MIUI has gotten much slicker and faster recently. If you're not into that, go with Vanilla Gingerbread or CM7, they are both very fast and clean. I recommend the glitch kernel with underclocking and undervolting to get best performance and battery life.

Yeah I was prolly gonna throw cm7 on there but it's still in nighties so I'd rather not unless it was my phone
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App

The current setup of power washed and pbj seem to be pretty sweet for now...she was still at 70% after it being off the charger for about.... 19 or so hours...where she would normally be in the red after 15 or so...

Bionix v 1.3! I have been using it moderately since 9:00 and it is now 12:10, only had time to charge it to 87 this morning. Now, 3 hours later; the battery is still at 76, so 11 percent with moderate usage. Amazing battery!! Would be on frost, but it didmt work very well on my phone for some reasons dn I love the black of bionix v

Both roms are fast, and have used both for at least 3 days(Trigger 2.6.2); both have excellent battery life.
I like Trigger's theme and look more.
BUT, Bionix 1.3 has 343mb Ram.
So, my vote goes to Bionix on that virtue.
Can't go wrong with either though
Trigger, with the OverStock Kernel = Heaven for me.

To be fair, you can get 343mb on any rom you choose. It's the overstock kernel that allows the 343mb ram

Right now I'm on Trigger. Bionix was my favorite, however I had some issues keeping connectivity to my company e-mail with it that I haven't had on Trigger. Otherwise, Bionix was fast and the battery life was amazing.
I have been using Bionix since Nero V and haven't encountered a problem yet. Yes Bionix. I tried Trigger once, i like them, but went back to Bionix.

I believe both do. I don't think what ROM you are using will affect the FFC if you have have SGSTool or something along the lines of that and other softwares you need on your phone for FFC.
Trigger, stable, fast, reliable. Add overStock to it and you will fall in love with your phone all over again, just like the day you got it! Plus, Birg makes sure the ROM gets only better and better with every release, just when you thought it doesn't get better than that!
Can't go wrong!

Ah, my bad. Didn't see that 2.6.4 has the option of Rom w/Overstock in 1 flash =)
This thread was kind of pointless. Of course people are going to choose what they currently run. If they didn't, why would they run it?
So, basically.... let's go ahead and sum up everyone's opinion on XDA. More people have downloaded and installed the Bionix series. Is this because it's been around longer? Possibly. Is it because Team Whiskey followers are persistent? Possibly.
I have personally tried both. I'm sticking to what I know and what I know are Team Whiskey's ROM's. Trigger is a machine though, I can assure you.
Happy choosing

bionix... its super fast, and looks so slick
The key here is the overstock kernel, you can flash either bionix, trigger, axura rom then flash the lastest overstock kernel over it. Then start kicking ass!
I flash overstock on top of axura, got a quarant score of 1839 and a neocore of 64.9.
I was a steady user of Bionix for quite sometime but I must say, Trigger has made a believer out of me. As it's been stated, the Overstock kernel will crank your phone up to 11 no matter which rom you use, but I dunno, Trigger just seems to hit a sweet spot for me.
Try them both, it's insanely easy to switch roms these days. Haven't ran into a bootloop or anything in ages.

1) do a proper battery calibration
2) take a good look at your apps, there are lots is poorly coded apps that drain battery.
3) do all tests on a stock kernel (not overstock or cw)

I have Trigger and I think it's the best Rom. I found that when phone is in idle battery drains really slow but when display is on battery drains very very fast.
How do we do a proper battery cailberation?
Try Darky's 9.3 Final for vibrant.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=973811
It's 2.2.1, not 2.2; but it's similar, stable, fast and good battery life.
Personally, I love it and generally get a good day's use with a good amount of operation time.
Then download "Super Manager" from the market and use the widget that comes with it. It's the most reliable and effective task killer I've ever used. Make sure to enable root permissions and check the "clean system memory" (or something like that) box in the settings of the app.
For themes, go to the i9000 forum and
1.) download the theme you like (should say if it's for Darky's 9.3)
2.) Explore the file and delete the "services.jar"
3.) do a Nandroid Backup (as usual)
4.) flash it.
5.) Enjoy =D
Hope this helps your search!

You're running some apps that drain your battery. I've gotten 30 hours plus from both Trigger (older version) and the latest Bionix. On the newest Trigger right now and it's even better.
Are you in a low signal area? Are you using screen brightness on high? Are you leaving wifi on when not connected to a network? There are lots of things that can cause poor battery life. I can assure you it's not the ROM.
Sweet Honey 2.5 running 2.2.1! by far the best.
Battery life is amazing and signal is great.
running it stock install OS 1.4.1 kernel and ka6 modem.
I have the same question like u, I want to find a really amazing ROM too
First off, asking a question like that you will never get a straight answer.
Reason being: If everyone thought the same ROM was the best and only used the one ROM, there would be no need for the other ones on there.
The right answer is going to depend on what you are looking for. More speed? More battery? or somewhere in the middle.
I have run most of the current ROM's from EDT, and TW. They are all pretty damn amazing. What is going to make more of a difference will be what Kernel you are running. Also, if you OC (overclock) or UV (undervolt). There are going to be other things that will eat battery. Mainly apps, mail, and anything else that depends on wireless data when the phone is idle.
read, read, read.... I was once a NOOB, and by all accounts, still am one. (just a noob that has flashed a lot and read a lot in these threads)
what an arrogant and stupid way to start a call for help thread by insulting one if not the best custom rom out there. Seriously try thinking brfore making such an idiotic statements.

The best rom I have used is Atriac v2. I like Team Whiskey roms.
Atriac is just as fast with Voodoo disabled as it is with it enabled. Quadrant benchmark is slower with Voodoo disabled but as many others have said Quadrant isn't an accurate gauge.
I have one app that used to take at least 5 seconds to load. Lag fixes greatly reduced the apps load time. Atriac with Voodoo disabled loads that app just as quickly as using a lag fix.
Besides being the fastest, Atriac is the smoothest rom I have used.

First man, don't insult the Dev's on here. They all spend their time developing Rom's, Kernels, Themes and many other great things for our phones. Insulting them does not help you get your problem solved and makes people not want to help you. We love our Developers here and show them respect for the work they do for us. Whenever you have a problem with a ROM don't insult the Developers work rather first see if it is truly the ROM or if it is user error (no offense intended). Next if you still don't like the ROM then flash a new one. There are plenty to choose from. I personally use Simply Honey 2.5 with Overstock 1.5. Battery life is good, super smooth and really snappy. Give it a shot hopefully it might answer your questions and be what your looking for.

In my opinion the Simply Galaxy is better than both. I've used all 3 roms and this one is blazing fast and responsive. I would suggest just trying all 3 and seeing which one you like the best. I have been using this rom since it came out ands there's been so many updates making it even better. Its also 2.2.1 the others aren't. Again in my opinion this one kicks ass. Good luck hope this helps.

I say Trigger, for me atleast.
Trigger just FEELS smooth. Bionix is smooth as well, i won't lie, but its the feeling..
Trigger is FAVORITE rom besides Axura and whitehawkx's GB and CM7
but to get the feel, i suggest you try them both out, because most of the people who reply will tell you its a personal opinion/option thats plays the biggest part in the rom vs rom threads.
Try em' both, flash the one you like out of them, then after a week, get something new.
I agree, Trigger........ not just smooth and very nicely done, better battery life for me. my 2-cents
Trigger is more up to date and is getting regular updates. For that reason alone I would pick Trigger. I also like it's theme better.

I agree, if you want everything to work correctly and be iron clad go with Froyo based roms. I personally like the Evil Fascination. But the Com Rom2.1 has more features and customization. But once JT figures out the GB roms they will be what you want.
This where I'm a bit of a n00b...
Right now I have CM7 build #19 (the last two haven't downloaded for some reason, they get stuck at around 20%)..
I like the themes I have gotten my hands on with the CM7. I've been told CyanogenMod is the way to go always.

[Q] Which GB ROM?

Hello,
I have got the itch to try a GB ROM again. I'm currently running Project V and it's great, but i want some change. I tried CM7 RC1 when it first came out and couldn't deal with the horrible battery life. But I figure it's been quite a while so things may have improved since then. What would be everyone's suggestion on the best one? I don't like crazy themes or anything. I'm just looking for a stock GB look with decent battery life and stability. Thanks in advance!

Calm down now, it's nothing personal. I'm sure it runs just fine. I just like the stock GB look.
The cm7 have drastically improved battery is on part with most other GB roms. I personally love Miui revamped LE it is incredibly fast and the developers are extremely active in the forum. Along with that they update the ROM every Friday and you always think there is no way it can get better but somehow they always seem to exceed expectations

Biffmod
I personally find Simply Honey to be a bit much as well (no offense explodingboy, just not to my taste). So, leaning toward a stock-ish ROM, I recommend Biffmod Vibrant. It's basically CM7, but with a bunch of tweaks to fix the common complaints and a stock look. Here are the changes:
Features:
*Mix of AOSP/cm7 - 2.3.5
*black launcher2
*black camera
*notification widgets
*overclock capable kernel (1.7ghz)
*voodoo color and sound
*BLN/LED Notifications (on by default, the BLN app is not compatible)
*Ricktips
*glitch kernel HL thanks TK-Glitch

I've been using it ever since I switched from my HD2 to the Vibrant, and it's a dream. The only issue I've encountered is a "problem" with the overclocking: the kernel says it can go up to 1.7Ghz, but in my experience it tops out at about 1.4Ghz before the phone starts to freeze up. Other than that, like I said, it's great—I fully recommend it.

I just wanted to chime in, I've tried your rom before and it was fantastic (in fact, i think it was the first one to have bln fixed when all the other roms had broken bln). However, I was past my honeycomb theme phase and is looking for a more stock gb (or close to it) look now. I constantly search for themes for your rom that can make it look like stock but to no avail I think if you added a stock theme zip, you will be able to increase your user base by quite a significant amount of people.
It's great--I easily go a whole day with moderate to heavy Wifi usage (I don't have data) without having to plugin.

I ended up flashing Biffmod last night. It is amazing so far. So smooth and I haven't had a single issue yet. I also ended up flashing the newest Bali Kernel and have it UV'ed quite substantially. We'll see how it does on battery.
Thanks for the advice.
I personally prefer CM7 or Bionix 1.3.1
Every GB rom I've tried has not had a working GPS. I travel for a living so I need this to work. I have since gone back to 2.2 so my GPS works but out of curiosity, is there a GB rom/kernel that supports reliable GPS functionality?
I could be wrong but I think some of the gps work. GPS worked fine for me on Simply Honey 5.0, which I loved. I liked the themeing, especially the pink theme made to go with it!! I just decided to give Trigger (GB not Froyo) a try and I am equally happy with it. GPS isn't a huge issue for me, but I noticed on Trigger I get locks but they are not accurate, usually within 100ft. I also haven't tweaked any of the settings or tried any of the fixes. There are lots of great GB roms out there...just play around and see what suits you best. My Vibrant has always had great gps I've read that some GPS just don't work well on Vibrants.
I personally really like the AOSP GB Roms, Trigger, CM7 and MIUI are all great... have not tried Biffmod yet, but I intend to sometime.
Kernel-wise, I really like Glitch V11 HL

It's not a kernel issue. It's just that your vibrant cant handle the overclock as all devices overclock and undervolt differently
