Radio info - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys just switched to Verizon from att. On my inspire I could run any radio I want on any ROM. I've done some searching and research on this but still don't have a definitive answer. What do I need to watch out for when flashing a radio? Can an incompatible radio to the ROM your running cause damage or just signal problems? And is it like the evo3d do u flash radios and 4g radios separate or are they one package? I'm a pretty experienced flasher i've rooted and rom'd quite a few phones but this leaves me a little confused. Thanks for the help.

Flash a Froyo radio for a Froyo ROM and vice versa for Gingerbread.
If you flash it incorrectly, you won't have service.
Welcome aboard.

ok thanks, it seems I made things more complicated than the needed to be lol. now is the 4g radio included when you flash a radio or is it kinda like the evo3d and you can mix and match, I realise the bolt is lte and evo is wimax but it it the same concept?

Pretty much all you're answers can be found in my thread stickied at the top of Q&A, as well as the links to the radios.

Questions about radios angle kernels

Ok so I have seen that when you download a Rom, sometimes they ask that you flash the latest radio and or kernel. So how do you find out what the right one is for the Rom you are tryin to flash. And on top of that I have no idea what a radio image or a kernel is or does so if any one knows a good link to school me on that I'm sure that would help. Thanks

For radios, USUALLY the latest released version is the best. There are some situations where an older version may actually work better for your carrier (telco). You can find a list for GSM HTC Hero radios here: http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?307-Gsm-Hero-Radio-Roms-Download-Links It is VERY, VERY important to flash the correct radio for your device, otherwise you will probably brick it.
For kernels, the ROM dev usually (99.9% of the time) includes the kernel so you don't have to worry about it. Some users though want different performance out of their devices and MAY flash another kernel.
This sticky provides good advice http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797740. It is from the XDA GSM Hero dev section.
Is a hero the same as a g2? I have a t-mobile us g2. So would hero radios work for it? And would I flash the radio or Rom first?

Oh and if you do flash the wrong radio can you not fix it be recovering a backup

I might be wrong but I think your phone is like the HTC Desire Z. If it is, this is the wrong section of XDA for you.

Don't think so. Just try not to flash the wrong one.

ok, seriously - what he said is correct, but I too am uncertain if this is the correct place for you.
I know the xda title is HTC G2/GSM hero. but I think the GSM hero and G2 actually use different radios? It certainly could be true anyway and I would not take a chance by flashing a G2 radio or any other radio without confirming with a real bonified G2 user.
edit: we're 99% hero users here.

The G2 Touch (this section of XDA) was/is offered by T-Mobile UK. Also known as the GSM HTC Hero - offered by numerous other carriers.
To complicate things further, there is also a CDMA HTC Hero. Different animal altogether.
Just be careful!
Flashed the radio.... nothing bad happens... but I just flashed the minui rom..... bad ARE!

No 3g just 1x

Every area I go where I know I used to have strong 3g, now my phone only ever says 1x and data speed matches. I'm running team XRON rc1. Anyone know why my 3g is gone? And/or know how i can fix it?
Any help is appreciated.

Stock rom doesn't show 1x. Ever. Custom roms do.
I realize that.. but I know I actually was on 3g before and now I am not. This isn't my first phone/custom rom.

I believe it is a mod done in the SystemUI.apk. Look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1208898
Edit** Maybe a kernel issue? I remember having the same issue on my EVO 4G with downloading roms and/or radios. What radio are you using?

Just the stock one I assume, unless the rom flashed something different. I'll have to flash another rom to see if it fixes it. I have seen the systemui edits that have borked 3g but I've ruled that out in my case.

The latest CDMA radio is 0.97.10.0530. Look in Baseband version is Settings and see what you have. If you have the older one, you can find the latest here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192661
I haven't seen any roms that include the radio. You usually have to manually update that yourself...

One more thing: If you haven't done it since flashing to Xron RC1, update your Profile in System Updates. I have seen others with signal/message issues after a root and fresh rom install...

[Q] Radio Question

I'm having terrible 4g issues. i got a replacement thunderbolt a little while back and flashed eternity which im not too happy with on there. but i never flashed a new rom because i was told that the new radios on the most current hardware would supprt it. sure enough it did but the 4g doesnt work like its supposed to. just goes in and out and stuff
since i'm not too good with radios i need to know which one would be the best to flash. and why if someone doesnt mind explaining it to me. thanks!

Are you currently running the most updated 605.19 stock radios?
You ARE if you go to settings, about phone, software information, more, and the baseband version reads 1.49.00.0406w_1, 0.01.79.0331w_1
If these are not the numbers you see, flash these radios from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24992678
If these are the numbers you see, then it should be working properly. If not, you may have installed an older version of Eternity. Check to make sure you flashed the most updated one.
Or the 4G in your area may be simply going in and out. Try flashing another ROM to verify this.

I just did the LiquidSmooth-ICS-v1.5-MR3
and have no data now. Im trying to determine what the best radios are for this. does anyone have ideas?
The .19 radios works best for me. Have you tried toggling data on and off or putting it into airplane mode for a minute and taking it back out.

605.19 is the name of the radios. Not the entire name but the last 5 digits of the radio name are usually what we go by.

cool man well i dug threw the thread and found the radios that other people flashed. and ran those threw the phone. still have sketchy 4G but if i keep it on cdma only and run permanent 3g its smooth, just not super fast like i wish.
does anyone know a specific LTE only radio i can flash in that they have had success with running the ICS Roms?

I'm pretty sure the LTE radios they used were from the 2.11.605.19 OTA. They may have flashed a different CDMA radio, but Idk. The leaked LTE radio causes most phones to reboot a lot.
Here's a link to the combo radios though. I suppose it never hurts to try them out... the outcome varies by phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30974567
But it is still recommended to use the 2.11.605.19 radios... which I posted a link for them above.

I've even had luck with the old 2.11.605.9 radios.
Try them if you'd like.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396408
Just be careful flashing different radios. If you flash a bad radio, it can brick you.
Also, I was always told to never flash the same radio that is already installed. So if you flash the .9 radios and they are currently installed, don't flash them again until you flashed a different radio.

[Q] Is peeter's ROM good for Photon Sprint

I am currently rooted with 2.3.5 locked bootloaders using Slim Photon rom. I am wondering if I can flash Peeter's rom on my MoPho Sprint as his post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587770) does not talk about its compatibility with Sprint models.
If anyone using this ROM can help me guide.
Yes. Flash the locked version and the correct system version modules otherwise you'll most likely lose WiFi or radio capabilities.
Edit: I'm sorry, just flash the 254_12ril.so file

Great. Shall try & flash it today. Was little worried since it failed to boot up the last time when i tried this
I believe peetr's ROM does not support 4G wireless. Just make sure.

That's what I'm using. Breaks the 4G. But overall a much better layout and experience than stock IMO.
Working well on Sprint Photon 4G
I can't say anything about 4G since we don't have it in India. But 3G & all other services are just fine. and with ICS theme, this ROM fares much better then Slim Photon.
Thanks a lot guys

[Q] How to Update PRL on Cyanogenmod 10.0

Hello ladies and gentlemen. First and foremost I would like to say that XDA is a wonderful community of which I am very pleased to finally be taking a part of. Since my very first Samsung Transform that I had back in 2010, to my Current HTC Ego 4g LTE I have used XDA and the resources that are provided here for all of my Android related questions. For that I want to thank XDA for having such a wonderful community and hope that things continue to devolp fruitfully for everyone.
Now onto the subject of my first post, of which I hope is appropriate in every manner.
I am running Cyanogenmod v 10.0 on my HTC Evo 4g LTE, TWRP recovery, S-on, Hboot v unknown currently.
Upon installing Cyanogenmod v 10.0 after much struggle I noticed that the 4g does not work. I checked my PRL and noticed that I am running 25015. So I began trying to find a method to update my PRL in hopes that this would allow the 4g to begin working. I have tried many different ways that I have found throughout XDA and Cyanogenmod forums to no avail. No dial codes work. Period. Please do not suggest a dial code because I have already gone through and tried every prominent variation. The next thing I began trying was connectingy phone to the computer and using the CDMA editor program(I cannot remember the name currently). The problem I ran into with this was entering DIAG mode. Again the dial code does not work due to the non Sense ROM. I have tried many variations of the Echo > 1 command but I cannot locate a DIAG file that this command would apply to. I have found a qct_ file but it is corrupt.
If anyone has found a method to put the phone into DIAG mode, or update the PRL using a different method that I have not mentioned your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
I will update this post with more specific information on what I have tried when I have access to a desktop terminal.
You could make a backup, revert back to a sense Rom, update the PRL, then restore the backup.

I would like to figure out how to do so without flashing a new sense ROM. Until I get S-off I have to flash the boot.IMG if I understand this correctly. I had to do that when I flashed Cyanogenmod the first time.

Is your firmware up to date? Only reason I ask is because your PRL is up to date and won't help you with your lack of 4G LTE.

What do I look for in my phone info for my firmware version? If it is not up to date would that fix my 4g LTE issue on cyanogenmod?
You might need to call sprint and have them reprovision your phone, for that you probably need to be on a sense rom, flash meanbean which has a s-on installer then restore your cm nandroid... Good luck! I don't think there's other way to do what you need in aosp... :banghead:
