[Q] Problems viewing HD movies? - Motorola Photon 4G

Does anyone else experience lag when watching HD movies? The movies in question are mp4. I get dropped frames and out of sync audio/video when using the stock video player or mobo.
I had no issues watching them on my Epic.

I use MX Player and its great.

I used it and it still doesn't work right. Maybe it's just the encoding that was done to the vids. Just strange that it worked flawlessly on the Epic and is so choppy on the Photon.

Im not having that luck, MP4 is not supported on my phone
Files that won't play for me seem to be more of an audio issue than video. I think it's the audio codecs that were preventing playback, still got a lot of testing to do on this front. I sometimes have a video start playing fine and after 3s a "vidoe player cannot play this file" pops up.
Don't know what you're talking about? I just converted a movie to MP4 format just the other night, and it plays just fine on my phone. You've gotta be doing something wrong?
My phone plays everything I've slapped on my sdcard... Mp4s exp... And its beautiful...

Mpeg4 wordplay for me, but it's video only. Absolutely no audio.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
it was probably an mp4 using AAC audio instead of AC3. I discovered this when I found the built in video player wouldn't play audio on some of my MKV files that Rockplayer would.
Yeah, I've been extremely impressed with video playback. I think there is an app called rockplayer you may want to try (though the format you mentioned seems to work for most)

What is the best video player that works pretty good on the atrix and plays a good number of different formats

Mobo Player
Second that, free, stable and feature rich
mVideoPlayer. Never failed me.
Hi there, I think I might try out these recommended video players. But before I do, I wondered if anyone could let me know why the videos I'm copying across to the phone (divx AVI episodes of TV shows downloaded via BitTorrent) don't stretch to the full size of the screen?
I have tried RockPlayer and yxplayer and what appears to be the standard 'video player'. yxplayer doesn't appear to do anything (or can't play divx AVI files), the other two play it in the centre of the screen with heaps of space around the sides.
When I play the same files on my TV through my PVR, they stretch to fit my TV screen dimensions and look really sharp. Was hoping the same would occur on the phone, so I would have something to watch on tomorrow's interstate flight.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also try qqplayer which can actually play a 1080p mkv file. though it will run very slow it still tries at least unlike most players!
Anyone know of any player that can fill the screen WITHOUT stretching the picture (in other words, it zooms in to fill the screen). I had that on windows mobile but have never found an Android player that does this.

Try taking a look at arcMedia.
Mobo Player.
I prefer mVideoplayer because it will display the folders that I have my videos in. I have over a 100 tv episodes for 7 to 8 different shows and not having them organized by folder drives me crazy.

Based on what I read above I eagerly downloaded MX Player. It was in no way as smooth as Zimly media player.
I picked up Zimly initially just to play music, I don't like bothering with playlists, I just wanted something to shuffle tracks.
Since I don't want to start another thread. I'll just ask it here ..
Is there a video player that can play mkv files WITH subtitles? Like Anime videos?
Thanks in advanced.

Best video player on Evo 3D

In the sea of video players, which one is the best on our Evo(lution) 3D machine?
Currently using BS Player Lite but its kinda buggy, and some videos are lagging.
Best one by far (IMO) is MX Video player https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad&hl=en
Totally smooth with a lot of good features. And the UI is clean, you can choose between white and black. And 3D works on it as well

Downloaded the free version but it is real laggy using the hardware decoder but fast using the s/w fast decoder. I saw a bunch of other MX downloads for cpu types but didn't see anything for the evo 3d unless I am missing something.

As you said, updates are based on CPU, not on phone model so Its normal you was unable to find it.

The normal version is the one I use. Via software decoding as that's super fast and works perfectly
MXPlayer is great . . . but there's the occasional frameskipping with 1080P content.
Diceplayer, for that reason - is better on our phones. It's one of the few apps I've decided to pay for. Smooth 1080P playback - and it's regularly updated.
It's funny though - that depending on the device, MXPlayer might be the better option regardless of price. Diceplayer appears to have fine tuned hardware decoding on the Evo3D.

Holy crap, Mobo Player is far from the best video player. For the Evo 3D at least, it's terrible.
Based on the positive reviews on this thread, I downloaded and installed it to see if recent updates might have improved performance since the last time I tried it.
Playing the same 1080P DTS sample file I use to test, Mobo flickers (frameskips) when playing the video track with hardware decoding. It utterly fails to play the audio - unless you use software decoding, and then the whole video plays in slow motion.
Both MX Player and Diceplayer are far superior. Both can use hardware decoding for the video, and software for the 5.1 audio. Diceplayer performs a little better, no frameskipping. Both do great over HDMI.
Besides that - swapping between HD files, moboplayer locked up my phone completely so that holding power wouldn't allow me to shut down. I had to do a battery pull.
Anyone knows video player that shuffles videos?

There are numerous threads that exist already on this topic... MX Player devs are currently working on an update for the N10 but as of now, BS Player is your best bet.

Just wondering, bsplayer is better than vlc? Never used bsplayer.
MX Player not really hardware accelerate (certain MKV file got sound issue and can only software render) for Nexus 10 at the moment. I am using BS Player now, it work nicely at Nexus 10.

I still get the 'DTS unsupported Audio Codec' error when I play HD mkv files on MX Player.
The videos plays just fine, but I don't get any audio.
BSPlayer on the other hand works perfectly. I would use that.

BSPlayer works fest for me, MX Player is a bit slower and has problems with some files.
This is in newest update already. I like MX's Interface Bettler though
Even with the update MX player still slightly stutters with mkv files I have tried 720p and 1080p
For me MX better (smoother) plays mkv 720p on software decoding.
