Some issues with my photon - Motorola Photon 4G

Anyone here occasionally after a reboot the phone is unresponsive and very slow? then after multiple reboots its the same thing. When i click on apps it sometimes will load sometimes won't. after a long while everything seems to be restore to it's normal? This has happened to me like 2x now and i can't explain or know how to fix it. It's like the gremlin decided to leave and everything is back to normal like it use to be.

Have you installed the OTA update yet? I think it fixed some issues pertaining to that and to call issues.

When the phone reboots it may appear the phone is laggy but it should only be for a few minutes. It is actually still booting and running the necessary apps to bring u up to par from being rebooting. I don't think I have anything to worry about.

Dont run task managers for one. And anytime you have > 40mb of ram, you should be fine. Try removing the lag fix and see where you are at after that. then try removing root. If this doesnt fix your issues take it back to VZW.
I'm not trying to argue.. But why shouldn't I use task killers? And my phone came with a task manager?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I had the same problem, not after rooting, but after doing the lag fix. I removed the lag fix this morning, and so far it's been all smooth sailing. The screen responds as it should, no lockups, no FCs.
Im a little sluggish too after root. No force closes but laggy when scrolling. Whether its changing screens or scrolling web pages. Not too bad just annoying since it was good before root. Lag fix didnt help so I deleted it, but I may try it again. So sure of the problem.

ok.. well im going 2 try 2 remove tthe lagfix.. should i completely unistall it or just bring up the program and select remove lag fix.. does anyone know what it does exzactly?

This may sound confusing and its so hard to explain, especially with just text but I'll try to explain the best I can.
Let's say android os is a chalk board and when you open an app the os writes on the board, some apps he writes more than others. The more Ram you ha e the bigger your chalk board. Now when the os gets to the end of the chalk board it simply erases what it wrote at the top and writes in its place and keeps going.
When you kill the tasks you are erasing the whole board that the os wrote on. So now the os has to rewrite what you erased ( killing battery and taking time) and im assuming after you kill apps you are opening another so its trying to write with two hands (multi tasking) and making it seem to run slower.

Also just plain rooting shouldn't do anything to make your phone run different, honestly it must be the "lag fix" that is messing things up. A good quadrant score doesn't mean a faster phone
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
thanks wisenick.. that def makes sense... with your chalk board explination..lol.. and what exzactly is my quadrant score then? and what does lag fix do???
This is a good example of why quadrant scores mean very little in the real world... Im not entirely sure what the lagfix does, it obviously has to do with the on board memory and data. The memory scores in Quadrant skyrocket after the fix because whatever test it does is largely effected by the lagfix. But this doesn't mean that the phone will perform better, quite the opposite in my experience. The lag fix did nothing but make my phone lag and give me and huge quadrant score. Ill take stable real world usage and low quadrant score...
im with you on that on.. 4 sure... so do i just load up lagfix and click uninstall to get rid of it??? or is there some other way.. ive read of ppl doing it that way.. and not getting there memory back?
Removing the lag fix helped me a lot, but I still noticed the unlock screen would hang up a little. I just did a factory data reset, and wow! Everything seems to be working like a well oiled machine. And for those who are wondering, doing the data reset will not unroot your phone.

No it won't bring back the bloatware, either. You will, however, lose all your widgets, and have to set up your screens, again.

[Q] Atrix reboots are killing me.

My Atrix has rebooted itself at least 6 times today. Once while I was trying to post this. How do I make it stop? This sucks.
I tried to search the forum but couldn't do it from my phone. Go figure.
Take it back? Software restore? I haven't had a single random reboot

No one has really figured out what is causing the reboots. What do you have installed/Mods. One theory is if you have some after market task killer (ATK - Advanced Task Killer) it might be killing the OS causing your phone to reboot, again thats only one theory.

Right out of the box. Not rooted (yet) or anything. I notice that the task manager on this phone lets apps run wild unlike my "old" Droid 2. I have a hot phone with sub par battery life. I am wondering if I have a memory leak somewhere.
I have noticed apps like Pandora tend to lock up as a widget but continue to burn through memory. I am hoping for a system update soon.

I also have not had my Atrix reboot on it's own. You can try to hard reset your phone and not reload your apps to see if it's one of your apps causing the problem. But I bet you will have to get a replacement phone.
One thing that has started happening to me is when I used the speedtest.net app it'll run one good speed test the second run it'll display 50kbps down 50kbps up then it'll reboot very odd don't know why this might be

Make sure you charge your phone full to 100% before doing a hard reset... This helped my battery life tremendously... Don't forget to backup your data
I do get random reboots, but only once in awhile (3x since I can remember from release date of Feb. 22)... I think Motorola is aware of this issue. There is an update in beta test right now so hopefully it will be out for every in the near future.
Good luck.
Is there any update to this? I am also having random reboots on 4.1.26 and 4.1.52

I noticed when my Atrix would reboot itself, it was USUALLY when GPS was in use. I know Speedtest sometimes uses GPS to determine which server to use, which might explain this? Just a guess though.

I've only had one reboot but messing with GPS caused it. Basically I went in and out of the navigation app 4 times. I can't remember why lol.
OP: Do you leave your gps on all the time? Maybe try turning it off for a day or 2 and see if that improves your situation.
Ive only had one reboot to date as well and it was also GPS related. I had just installed the update last night, and went into the app GPS status. it locked up and rebooted the phone. only time its ever happened...?
weird
I think the reboots are associated with polling.. if not polling then some underlying data send/receive issue.
i've also had about 3 random reboots in the past week, i'm currently running 4.1.57
My phone recently starts to reboot by itself too.
Running 4.1.57, rooted, and Webtop mod.
Most of the time it happens when I try to wake up the phone. The phone would not wake up and then reboot itself after a while.
At least with the update the issue is the phone randomly reboots when there is
1. Low Signal
2. Coming off wifi and unable to reconnect data.
Pretty much when the device loses the data connection and cannot reconnect it reboots. Been worse since the 1.57 update.

+1.........
when I've had random reboots, (about 2 of them since the 1.57 update) I've noticed that each time the phone was busy pulling something from teh internets, and would just jam-up. Maybe there's a buffer overload or something and the phone has to reset to clear its cache?
Then again, I know NOTHING about internets, except how to watch pr0n and dl torrents.
I too, have never had a single random reboot.
I've had 3 reboots in the past week alone. Mine usually happen at the beginning of a phone call. I'm getting sick of having to call the person back and explain that my phone just rebooted.
Anyone heard of any updates on this issue ?

Who is suffering from wake up lag?

Okay so i got this issue where i have wake up lag. anywhere from 2 to 5 seconds depending how long the phone has been asleep.
this was before and after factory reset.

Do you guys use an underclocker like setcpu or cputuner for screen off? I was noticing wake lag, along with the screen not fading in properly. I would see a quick flash of the current open app before the lock screen would appear instead of the smooth fade from black. In my case, I suspect it's from under clocking. I decided to uninstall the underclocker since I'm not noticing that much improvement from it. So far my wake lag is resolved.

nope its basically stock other than it being rooted. side loading enabled too. buts that pretty much it. i also formatted my memory card thinking it had to do something with that but not it still does it.

Yep same here...it's really starting to annoy me...I flashed back to stock 1.5.7 and initially it looked like it was resolved but then it came back. I upgraded to 1.8.3 and saw the same wake up lag (2-3 seconds). This is all stock no 3rd party apps installed yet. I noticed that when the phone is plugged in it responds really fast without lag must be a suspend thing to save battery when not plugged in. I rooted, installed gladiatrix and etc. still a problem. Really annoying the hell out of me.

I get the same problem, rooted, unrooted, all P Roms and with or without widget locker. When my missus tried to unlock the phone once, she locked it again about three times as she kept re pressing because it didnt respond.
same here... wake up lag... dont know why.... im rooted, sideloading and gladatrix 3
im using setCPU to underclock on screen off.. ill try without it
I too have wake up lag, always. I'm on a US atrix, 1.8.3 with gladiatrix installed. It did it on stock 1.8.3 too.
I'm not using setcpu or any kind of lock screen app/mod.
Same here, so hard to wake up sometimes to go into work.
oh on the device my bad it happens from time to time actually. but on the most part its fine.
I was just messing around a bit more, and it seems to only be after the screen has been off for at least 15 or so seconds? So if I just go on/off/on/off/on/off it's fast, but if I do on/off/wait more than 15 seconds/on I get the ~2second pause.
Blah.
My phone was working fine, then wakeup lag. I started looking at running processes and noticed the browser was using 100mb of ram.
Killed it and all is well again.
I've had up to 10 seconds lag...usually about 3 though. Using WigetLocker.
Sent from my MB860-5G using XDA App
anyone find a solution to this? mine is about like a second lag. rooted 1.8.3 running greyblur
Any update on this? It happens on all pseudo-roms?
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
I'm rooted and this has occurred for me since I got the phone on the day of it's release no matter if it's rooted or what p-rom is installed. Sometimes the only way I can get it to wake up is to hold the power button in until the power down prompt wakes it up (though this isn't a frequent occurence).

has anyone figured out what makes the X2 Freeze sometimes?

im wondering if it is the speed scripts? i am using eclipse 1.1 now so im going to see if that fixes it. but i have been getting the freeze when unlocking the phone, and sometimes randomly when im using the phone the screen goes 100% unresponsive...the buttons work, but nothing else...then after about a min or two it comes back..VERY annoying...
Do u reboot or clear system caches on a regular /daily basis? This may help.
Sounds like things are getting clogged up. I used to have that problem a while ago before I started rebooting once a day. Usually when I wake up and sometimes twice a day. It is healthy for an android phone to be rebooted once a day. Just plain works better.
oh this has happend right after a SBF or a reinstall of an OS, so there was not even a day on it. it happened this morning once when i unlocked the phone BUT i had that speedy script installed, i resotored from a back up before i installed that scrpit so im going to see if it happens again....i hope it is not hardware related..

It has only happened to me in the past like I said. It's been a long time tho((knock on wood))
I have also been running the speedy script v6 . I only made one change and that was deleting the 3gturbo entries in the one script. And I haven't had this problem yet at all. Been running for two and half days now.
has this also happened on 2.3.3? i was wondering if it was a 2.3.4 issue?
Sounds like something clogging your memory. When I start fruit ninja my x2 screen goes unresponsive for up to 20 seconds I assume its just memory management during game startup. Are you using a task killer to maximize free ram? This will cause background apps that you may have killed to restart if they are called upon. That would cause the phone to bog down temporarily
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
nope no task killers at all. i noticed using system panel i was at only 77 mb using eclipse...
My phone doesnt freeze but it does randomly reboot no matter what rom, script, length of use before a restart, or whatever.

I guess I got pretty lucky with not getting reboots.
Even before I rooted and rom'd up I think I MAY have had one random reboot. I guess I just got lucky. Basically the only major problem I have had that others have os the music skipping I used to encounter lag occasionally but since I started my daily reboot routine lag is pretty null on most occasions.

I wonder the same been using eclipse straight up except for setting the min to 216 instead of 312 never had any issues period . Might be worth getting rid of speed scripts and see if that is the issue.
2.3.4 was made pretty much to fix the lockups and reboots. It might be something with your backups. I know I just used a backup a couple days ago after giving up on upgrading to 2.3.4 and until today when I finally upgraded to 2.3.4 it was slow, laggy and unresponsive. Mind you before that last nandroid, it was working amazingly.

Random rebooting???

Has anyone else noticed that the Photon seems to self reboot at odd times. I have yet to have it reboot on me while using it, but my wife's Photon has rebooted on her during active use.
Anyone else experiencing this?
No, but you leave alot of unanswered questions. Is your wife rooted? what is she running (app's) that you are not running?
I have heard of this before and if i remember, delete everything and start new, just putting a few app's at a time back on. When it starts acting up, you found your app!

Shockingly enough, I did suddenly get that twice yesterday after updating YouTube. However I've been unable to reproduce it with any level of consistency at this point.
For the two Photons I have access too (both are doing the same thing), one is rooted one is not.
Apps in common are:
Enhanced email.
ADW Launcher
Car Home.
My feeling is that more people are having this issue they just don't know about it... I found it because I went to recently used apps and there were none, then I started to watch it...

I've experienced it a couple of times while playing music. A song would be playing and then it would suddenly reboot.
I'm using Google Music...
I've heard of that happening before the 154 update came out. So not sure if you're on the latest OTA or Leak why you'd be getting it, unless as someone mentioned it was an app. Which is possible I s'pose.
i did noticed that when the phone is in the charger, when i take a call
while the phone plugged in i hear no voice and the phone reboots
the phone was pretty hot when it happens so i can assume it's a heat problem
(in my case)
Mine has been rebooting more and more frequently. I went to Sprint today and had them order me a replacement. I'm hoping the new one does not have this issue.

What latest leak? The 198_7?
Yes sir. That's the latest leak/OTA update. Though the reboot issue was fixed for most people with the 154 update. I previously had that issue as well. So you could try that, but not saying it will for sure fix it. That's really the only idea I have, unless you try uninstall your apps and see if it's an app related issue.
Had same famous random reboot issue, after 154 update and a wipe.
Exchanged for new Photon at Best Buy (no hassle swap) 3-4 weeks ago, So far no random reboots. For me, I believe it was hardware related, noticed the phone was getting fairly warm around the same time the random reboots started happening.

I guess it could be hardware related, but that WAS a known issue when the first Photons came out. I had to exchange mine three times due to the reboot issue before the tech told me it was a reported and known issue and they would be releasing a fix for it.
My Evo 4G and EVO 3D both did this sometimes (both stock, not rooted, hardly any 3rd party apps) when signal strength was low.
My Photon does it much less often (did it once today though, but I'm in Canada roaming). My Photon is rooted, but pretty vanilla.
I have gone with all of the OTA's, and have yet to have a reboot.

There was some dude who had this issue and he stuck a business card at the space near the top of the battery to keep it lodged with the connections near the bottom. Supposed ly this worked....but you probably want to get a phone that works straight up.
