I have a few issues with the GB releases for the fascinate. Two that come to mind are low incall volume, and lack of LED (flashlight) function for anything but the camera app.

We need the source code for our Gingerbread leak. If it was that simple, we would have used those leaks a long time ago.

X2 on the issues.
gfosco, i think you are being a bit too optimistic. It is near perfect though.

Either way, the captivate is GSM, and the fascinate is cdma, so no go

Not to mention they are completely different models. Similar, yes. The same? No. EH09 Gingerbread is official on the Mesmerize, we should have that source soon, and the few things that are broke should be fixed soon.

Mez now has official EH17 gingerbread. This release is the one that will help with the Fascinate.
Incidentally, this belongs in General section.
Another Fascinating post by my XDA app...

Froyo

Do we have to wait for samsung to actually release the froyo update for this device, or can it be attained earlier?
Someone might be able to port over froyo but you won't get a good Rom until froyo officially comes

I wouldn't count on that. We had completely stable Froyo roms for the Incredible a good 2 months before the official update came out.
I have high hopes that Cyanogen will get CM6 running on the Fascinate. I'm hoping that development won't be too different from the other Galaxy S variants. Time will tell.

Why would you say that? Once the devs have the source code, they should be able to cook up some ROMs that are just as good, or better, then what Samsung releases.

Especially considering that Samsung has made all the goodies open-source. I would suspect it will be a lot easier for someone to cook up a good ROM for this phone than it was for the original Droid.
Verizon made a statement that we would get the Google search widget back with froyo. I guess its the froyo widget obviously. But at least that's a good sign that vzw acknowledges that we will get froyo

But when we get Froyo, will we also get the option to use Google as the default? It's killing me to hit the search button and get binged.

There are debinged browsers you can flash or set Google as your home page. There's some Roms that are bingless also.

The Mesmerize Froyo went live last night, and source for the kernel is already out. The Thunderbolt was released last Thursday, where is your source for that?
Gripe: same story as always alot of unneccessary changes to the source code making it appear to be incompatible with the other handsets. Sorted out a good portion of it this morning. Top of list once working...make a universal GalaxyS kernel....progress is I've been working on it for a week already minus the fascinate specific stuff, btw it appears the Fascinate I-500 4G is on the way because this source has wimax and a dsim drivers in it..

The tbolt has more than just 4G and .3" of screen real estate comparatively ...point is there will always be something newer, faster, bigger, brighter...and I think its great that manufacturers and devs are always working hard to bring us the next big thing. I also think its amazing that our community of developers keep devices current and viable LONG past their projected lives, sporting software and doing things the carriers and manufacturers never intended.

Unfortunately that's the trade off for pure blacks and deep greens, reds and blues...Amoled doesn't due pure whites and the pinkish tint to greys is a known issue since the technology came about.

So I don't get why everyone drools over the screen.
It's not that great.
Anyway, I'm definitely switching to an HTC phone soon...just as soon as the Merge comes out.
I can't wait for the AOSP Froyo, GB potential, and a fully functional MIUI on the Fascinate. Perhaps Froyo source will get us a step closer...

[DEVELOPER] EE23 i500 ROM from Samsung

Any developers please PM me if you would like a copy...It's EE23 for I500. Said it was a MR release, anyone know what that is?
Its a froyo update for the mesmerize. Its been floating around some in irc but i dont think anything has been done with it.
Ya EE23 is either for the mesmerize or showcase, and afaik the showcase hasn't seen an OTA froyo yet...so this could have something to do with them.

It turned my slow Aria into a superphone. Incredible support, nightly updates, every feature you could want, very stable. It's how android should be.
I'm looking forward to some cm7 on atrix
Dorian is working on 2.3.5 rom noticed he commented on that in his rom thread
I also noticed the source code was released so hopefully the devs can get it "De-Blured". I would love to run Stock GB. I almost traded my Atrix for a Nexus S until I saw that, now I'm waiting (im)patiently.

Well obviously an official release would be meant for the phone/carrier you have, where the VM leak will not work properly on any device, and could brick it.

Since Your A CDMA User, Even When Sprint Does Release The Update, The Leak ROMs Would Be Better Because They Are Fully Functional, And Have Most ICS Bugs Ironed Out

Not necessarily. Obviously a custom rom is better vs an official, but he was asking about official vs the VM leak. The official is the better of the two since everything was made to work. With the VM leak, many things had to be "hacked" to get Sprint things to work. And we still don't have a way to change PRL. The official rom will be a better base to build roms off of since everything will work in the beginning, and we should have a new kernel.
