Samsung Galaxy S II on AT&T: 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen, available September 18th
You can forget the rumored “Attain” branding, because AT&T is taking the same tack as T-Mobile on this one and leaving the name of its own Samsung Galaxy S II untouched. As with its counterparts on T-Mobile and Sprint, AT&T’s version of the S II features an 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera with flash and 1080p video capture, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and the latest generation of TouchWiz atop Android 2.3. What’s different here, though, is that AT&T opted for a 4.3-inch version of the lauded Super AMOLED Plus display — the same as Samsung’s European S II variants — whereas Sprint and T-Mobile are both using a 4.5-inch component. Interestingly, AT&T’s is also the thinnest, so they claim: 8.89mm, versus Sprint’s 0.38 inches (9.65mm). T-Mobile hasn’t specified their dimensions just yet.
As for the processor, Samsung’s proud of this one: they’re using a homegrown Exynos dual-core model clocked at 1.2GHz. Some other versions of the S II have used a Tegra 2 — and granted, the Tegra 2 is no slouch in its own right, but we’re told to expect some truly magnificent performance on this model. Look for it to land on September 18th with pricing to be announced later.
AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Specifications
4G – HSPA+
Android (2.3 Gingerbread)
GSM Quad-band (850/900/1800/1900MHz)
UMTS Tri-band( 850/1900/2100MHz)

Processor: 1.2Ghz x 2 (dual core)
Camera: 8MP AF with LED flash + 2MP front

It might not be called sgs2 as mike said, but by all intents it appears to have the same internals. It definitely does not look as sexy as the sgs2 or even the captivate for that matter, but i really want my hardware keyboard.
The size of the device is the only thing that really worries me. All we have for dimensions is this

Some web site was published immediately after the launch event with the specifications and the Sept 18th date. Within a couple of hours it was changed to "In the coming weeks".
That said, however, one person the the rumor thread, who claims to have a strong relationship with an AT&T store manager, said the manager was instructed to have all his personnel in the store on the 17th for training.
We won't really know until AT&T makes a press release, or the phones actually start showing up in the stores.

I was just in Prague on vacation last week and saw the S2 at one of the electronics shop. The price unlocked was equivalent to a whopping $800+ over there. Curious, do you guys upgrade or buy the no commitment price outright? (Ebay, not sure how reliable the sellers are, has them for around $600.)

If you wait, you'll always get better tech.
That page has a big mistake at least for UK phones: The GS2 has 1.2 GHz Cpus nto 1.0GHz so in real life there would probably be not much difference. The Screen size is personal preference and the download speed for the GS2 isn't supported by UK networks yet so you probably won't see any difference in speeds there. On Vodafone HSDPA+ I haven't got more than about 6Mb/s.
All applicable if in the UK of course.
I waited 6 months for a dual core after my contract expired, damn longest 6 months in my life, never again lol

just wait for the samsung hercules III...technology is always outdoing itself, so if you wait, there's only gonna be the next gen tech that comes out that would make you regret making that purchase. honestly for me, an additional .2" screen, .3Ghz cpu, and extra Mbps (that you probably wont even use) isnt significant enough for me to hold off, unless the original sgsII isn't compatible with your network.

For some reason, T-Mobile's not getting a SGS2 variant. The Hercules is a modified version of the U.S. only AT&T Infuse. It won't have USB2G, Wi-Fi Direct, or Bluetooth 3.0. It'll have a dual-core SoC but it's not intended to be as premium a device as the SGS2. Think SGSZ.

If you're on T-Mobile and don't want to change carriers, then yes, it's probably a better choice. It'll be loaded with T-Mobile crapware and you'll be forever dependent on T-Mobile for updates. It won't sell in nearly the same quantities as the SGS2 and its U.S. variants so it will most likely have less dev support. Also, because it's using a unique SoC a lot of the dev work might not be easily portable from other Samsung phones. Look at the Infuse dev forum and it should give you an idea of what to expect in terms of dev support.
The Nexus Prime should have all bands available for worldwide use. You could take a look into that.
Yeah Nexus Prime will be the phone to rule them all (for awhile).
Its very much like buying a car...
Early 2011 like january or feb 2011? It's great to get the 2011 reg plated vehicle right?
but into the last couple of months of 2011 and you might want to hold on until 2012 for the latest and best vehicle.
Others may wait for 2012 just SO that they can buy the 2011 model, which is just as good for alot cheaper. A bit like all the iphones then... uh oh! I said the forbidden word.

First Android ICS Device on AT&T

I'm up for upgrade and I am waiting on ICS and I was hoping it would come to AT&T in october but I can find no evidence of this. Seems that the Nexus Prime will be going to Verizon. Anyone have any idea when AT&T will get an ICS device?
At this point it is all speculation but I am pretty sure I read on Boygeniusreport they were expecting in october!

Nothing about that article says the Galaxy Note is coming to AT&T.
In fact if you look at the model number, it's clear that the version that just went through FCC approval will never be sold by AT&T. Usable on AT&T - yes. Actually sold by AT&T - no.
AT&T phones have a model designator starting with SGH. SGH-I897 (Captivate), SGH-I997 (Infuse), SGH-I777 (AT&T GSII)
International generic units have a model designator starting with GT. The unit in that article is GT-I9220. So it's an international model that, while it will work on AT&T's network, will NEVER be sold by them in a contract-subsidized fashion. AT&T has NEVER sold a GT model on contract in the United states. If history is any indicator, if the Galaxy Note is ever sold by AT&T, it's going to be about a six month latency before the AT&T version drops. (See, for example, the delay between the GT-I9100 and the SGH-I777)

How would one obtain an international version for T-Mo then? Or is it a possibility that they will pick it up?
If it's like the I9100, an International variant supporting the T-Mobile bands won't exist. T-Mobile may or may not sell their own variant.
The heavy customization of the T-Mobile GS2 is a sign that you likely won't see the Note sold on contract with TMo or even any compatible with their 3G bands.
I'm happy with my Streak...even if it is still running 2.2.2, but, I'm looking at the Note also. If it gets to at&t before summer of 2012, I'll grab it.
Is it going to have a notifications led light?

I've carried the 5" streak in a velcro closing belt loop case for over a year w/o any problems. The Note, with the 5.3" screen has less top & bottom than the streak does, so it won't be all that different

TOO Big for my taste. and too small to be a "pad"... not sure where this falls in to .. I'll be keeping my SGS2... only thing I WOULD change to is the Prime
I think the Note would be great for me, especially at work where carring even a 7" pad would be restrictive. I would use the stylus to write my notes all day long at work.

I've had the streak in my pocket every day since December 26 2010. Not an issue at all, if it is then you haven't owned one or have a very small figure or wear skinny jeans. I can't wait for the Note to come out, it will be in my pockets daily as my personal phone, along with my Atrix work phone. And BTW, the Streak is more often in my front pocket than back.
I've had the S2 since Friday and I love it. However, I have had my eye on the Note since I heard about it last month. Looks like a lucky family member will be getting my S2 once the Note come out If I don't like the Note then I'll take my S2 back, I can because I'm indian.

[Q] Skyrocket or wait for HD?

Trying to figure out what the chances are that AT&T releases the Galaxy S2 HD LTE in the next month or so. I'm pretty sure the ATT variant with the 720p HD screen went through the FCC a few weeks back...are they going to release yet another S2 variant this year?
I'm in a, soon to be, LTE market - so I think I've settled on either getting the skyrocket now, or trying to hold out for another month and see what they announce.
I know there's probably no concrete answer to this question, unless any of you beta testers want to drop some hints, but any thoughts would be appreciated.
SkyRocket uses a CrapDragon CPU and Adreno GPU if you're aokay with that go with the SkyRocket.
I'd wait
the SG s2 hd lte, will be utilizing the same processor/gpu, with the exception of the larger HD screen, as the Skyrocket....

No Samsung Exynos in the US?

Evening, everyone. I'm both curious and rather frustrated. I've had my Galaxy Note since it launched in the US on AT&T last February. Back then, it was the cream of the crop, and now i'm about to upgrade to an S IV the minute the pre-order link goes up.
On this note, though, while Samsung didn't mention the processor in today's keynote, the rumor mill (believably) reports that the international model will have a 1.6 or 1.8 Exynos 5 octo CPU, while most localized markets will have a Snapdragon 600, with a 1.9 quad-core. My question is why do the US markets prefer to use the Snapdragon processors? I got my mother a Galaxy S III for Christmas last year, expecting it to have a quad-core processor, but since i hadn't done my research, i was disappointed to find a Snapdragon S4, only a dual-core. Similarily, my Galaxy Note was butchered compared to the international version, with the iconic physical home button replaced with capacitive keys, and having a similar Exynos/Snapdragon difference.
