best video convertor - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Friends,
Please suggest me few best video convertors for xperia x10 that doesnt compromise in video clarity and scaling....
I have very good music videos that i want on my phone!

I've used the program MediaGo! that comes with the x10 to put AVI files on my phone. It works great, you just drag'n'drop the files onto your phone with this program and it will automatically convert the clip to a format the X10 likes.
You could also try an app such as RockPlayer, which will natively play .avi (and many other) formats directly on your phone.

I use HandBrake (http://handbrake.fr/), which is a great free utility. It's available for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.
I use it to convert Flash (.FLV) files and MPEG-2 (.VOB and .MPG). It's not a simple drag-and-drop type of program because it allows you to adjust a lot of settings, but the resulting quality is fantastic. There are also lots of usage write-ups and help available online.

If it helps you could just load them in the phone as they are and use moboplayer, or use media go(slow but good)

see if u want gud videos then download the latest youtube downloader and use convert to try and convert the videos to PSP videos in high quality !! the clarity is really awesome !!
hope it helps
plz thank me if it does!!

I use Audials Tunebite to covert videos and movies for my mobile devices, for example. Works fast and it can be used to convert videos to avi, mp4 and all sorts of video formats.
Another useful thing is that this one also has customizable conversion profiles that let you play around with the conversion settings and to choose whatever bit rate, frame rate etc. you need to get the files converted in perfect quality for any devices you need.
I for one am pretty happy with the way this one handles converting my videos, movies and music.

Thanks friends....but i guess playing the videos in mobyplayer was a good idea and also using youtube downloader was very much helpfull.

hi, dunno if it could help but on my mind best converter for any media is "super" (yeah thats the name lol).
but the fact is if you re looking for control just dl it's the more interesting exept if you don't really understand media format.
hope you ll give it a try

don't need to convert it, just use Mobo player. it support almost all format.

Movie Formats

I'm looking to put full length movies on to my s743. I was wondering If I should stick with windows media player or not. Also I want to make the videos the smallest foot print I can. I use to have a program for my old Sony Ericson that I could get full videos in decent quality down to a gig. Just curious how you guys are going about doing this fast and easy. Glad to be a part of these forums and look forward to a response.
personally I'm using "avs video conventer" and convert videos to mp4 320x240...to my opinion it's the best...
In order to play the movies I use CorePlayer because media player lags when I try to move fast forward the movie...CorePlayer works really smooth!

[Q] Movies on sony X10

Firstly can you watch movies on the X10 coz I carn't find anywhere to download them?

T..
I use Rock Player to play movies when I am traveling. It support different formats not just mp4 which is supported by X10 natively...

Just purchase the app in the market and put the movies on your SD card. You can drag and drop. It is just as simple as using iTunes, if not more simple because iTunes is prohibitive and not very user friendly.
If you're watching movies at home you can use VLC Stream and Convert. It encodes movies on your computer and transfers them. Until the X10 has native DNLA support this is the next best option. Perhaps it may be even better because anything you can decode on the computer is virtually what you can watch on the X10, other than Real Media encoded files in my experience. Haven't contacted the developer (TravelDevel - very awesome developer), so it could just be the codecs on my computer. Not too sure.. (video works, sound doesn't)
Sorted. Thanks to all for your help
I use SuperC to convert anything I'm putting on, that way you know it will play and can resize to fit the screen perfectly.
http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php
Handbrake is pretty sweet for ripping dvds, too
It produces mp4 files which can then be watched with the shipped player

You're welcome! Nice to hear you have sorted it out...
I use xilisoft video convertor to convert my movies from my K750i - W800i - PSP - W960i - X10i days.
Still like using it.
I think whichever softwares you use, as long as you get the configurations right and save to mp4, it should be all right~
I've downloaded the handbrake as recomended but I'm unable to get it to rip any DVDs. All I'm getting after scanning is a black blank box and nothing else. Can anybody help or recomend any other free software I can use. I have got aura dvd ripper pro which I downloaded to use for my kids arcos 405 but the audio track is always around 5 seconds behind the picture.
Where am I going wrong? You guy's all seem to have it sorted. I spend a lot of time in hospital and would so like to rip my films and put them on my X10 so I can watch them when I'm away.
Has any of you cleaver lot got any goo ideas onhow I should proceed??
Sorry for hijacking, which format is best suited for X10 when I convert with handbrake ?
Picture size, file format.. ?

Video Player

It's possible to play video on this device? How can I convert my video files to files which x8 understand?
It can take mp4 for sure : I have 2 videos in "/sdcard/video/"
You can try RockPlayer - Plays all divx videos so no need for convert the files at all the player is really great app and you can get it for free from the android market. I watch two movies both more then 2 hours long for a 50% battery so the player is great.
It looks like slideshow with software decoding, it's not works with hardware decoding.
It not play all avi formats well but works great for some if you have time to find out what format works on that phone but i Watch for example Fight Club on this and was nice and smooth also watch some Shows on it and it works great for that it`s very useful when you are at the bus or at the train and have time to kill.
When connected to the computer, download MediaGo from PC companion. It converts audio and video to x8 format, as well as adding it to the device.
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
yup. just use the media go from SE. it automatic convert the media file to match the hardware decoding. its an extra work but worth doing. to save some memory.
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
Cannot setup Media Go on my windows 7 x64 corporate. Fail while installing MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable package.
I use Avidemux GTK app on Ubuntu. Just use "auto->PSP" settings. it makes files that x8 decodes in hardware.
My favourite video playing app is arcMedia.
It is capable to handle largest video files thanks for video buffering.
But It is not working since I rooted my 2.1 with original rom.
Anybody knows why?
The problem is app2sd. arcMedia doesn't support app2sd yet.
I really wait for the update because you don't have to convert video files with it.
arcMedia plays normal xvid videos smoothly like desktop computers.
My pre-isntalled video player can't find any files, even those which i've recorded with camera. What's the problem?
What's the point of installing video player which can't find video files? for example if some1 buys x8 and don't want to use any of apps from the market, only pre-installed ones. so he can't watch any recorded videos? only getting there through camera app? it's the same with picture review.
Rockplayer v6 vfp version can play video rmvb well, of course, not as well as computer
It all depends on the encoding and the resolution of the files people.
Dont expect to be able to play a full hd avi or mp4 with a 600hz CPU!
Maybe the PSP compatible avi files you can d/l with utorrent work better.
N.
yeah,i would recommend you to convert the videos with Xmedia.(It Supports X8)
Its works everytime on my X8
I use yxplayer2, RockPlayer gives me a lot of erros playing the videos.
I can also say that vital player from market plays divx/xvid with no lag at all, for me it really is the best app of this kind.
to convert videos, try XMedia Recode or Format Factory
I use ImToo Video Ultimate Converter..
choose convert to android specification

there are lots of software players that play almost everything including mov and mpeg
Hi, Ive used RockPlayer quite extensivley and it played nice (even with subtitles) up untill last week when all of a sudden the video lagged awfully. I tried all the other players (yx, qq, arc...) and each and every one of them lags.
Now, Ive updated to the latest x8 software (from the first 2.1 release) and hoped it would help, but playback is the same.
Tried to enable JiT now, but that didnt help.
Any ideas why would something like this happen seemingly out of the blue?
EDIT: I might add that this is all in software mode (even for files that work in hardware mode). Id like software mode to work however because transcoding is kind of a pita job.
EDIT2: Found the culprit. H.264 @300kbps is too much for this phone period. Both xvid and divix play nice even at 1000kbps.

lol we are not using a 2003-2007 phones anymore.
your ray supports any video format. you dont need to convert a video to mp4 or anything to make it playable.
since you're using android, try Moboplayer from the market. it supports nearly all video formats.
the matter of fact, converting a video format from this to that will reduce the video quality and will make the converted video really bad. so just let the video formats stays the way it was to enjoy the original quality.
If you just send video file throught MTP connection (using Windows Media Player except USB Flash mode) Windows offers you to encode video for the best experience. If you are advanced user check SUPER encoder. It has huge number of settings to encode your video as you wish. Good luck ;-)
Download handbrake and use the android preset. It gives a really good experience.

Yeah! I know that the latest smartphones supports almost all known formats except for few, I've even tried mobo player.. some avi's, mkv's & mp4's doesn't play properly.. its like a little slow than a normal video + voice & video plays in two different ways.. that's what I wanted to know wat are the possible codec & cordinates to convert...
btw, I'm gonna try handbrake & see whether I can do anything using that...

Watching movies on my Tablet S

Any recommendations on apps for ripping and converting dvd movies for watching on a Tablet S?
Aside from copyright issues (let's not even go there) I travel a lot and it would be far easier to take a handful of SD cards with my favourite movies or TV shows on them than lug a box of DVD's half way around the world with me.
I have seen people put movies on their iPads but I don't want to have to pay to download a movie that I already own on dvd just so I can watch it on my tablet.
Advice appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my Sony Tablet S using xda app-developers app
For the conversion I would recommend MediaCoder. It's the most versatile tool. The target format would be mp4 (H.264, Baseline Profile).
Supported Video Formats for the Tablet S and the built-in players:
H.263, Profile0, max. 704x576, max 4 Mbps, .mp4;.3gp
H.264/AVC, Baseline Profile, max. 1920x1080, max 10 Mbps, .mp4;.m4v;.3gp
MPEG-4, Simple Profile/Advance Simple Profile, max 1920x1080, max 10 Mbps, .mp4;.3gp
WMV, Simple Profile/Main Profile, max 1920x1080, max 10 Mbps, .wmv
Thanks for that.. Anyone have any thoughts on rippers and/or combined ripping and conversion software applications?

I use Freemake, very simple to use and good quality.
If you haven't yet put mx player on your tab, it will play most formats

Check out Slysoft's CloneDVD Mobile. It is one of the best rip-and-convert softwares you'll find and well worth its price. For ripping/copying protected DVDs, you'll also need to use SlySoft's AnyDVD HD, which is also well worth its price. I have used all of SlySoft's softwares (except Game Jackle) for several years and have yet to find a DVD they failed to handle.

Thanks - Freemake seemes to be doing an ok job right now - though some stuff it struggles to convert. Also, I have tried to change the dimensions in Freemake so that there is less letterbox and more image on the screen but everytime I do it crashes.
Will check out the Slysoft stuff but it seems a bit expensive for the convenience.
Thx

Thx. Freemake seems to be doing the job - though there are a couple of titles it has struggled with. Also, there seems to be a lot of letterbox and not a lot of picture. Everytime I try and change the ratios, Freemake crashes on me. If you know of some magic setting I would appreciate knowing what it is!
Cheers

Well, I don't know if I understood your problem.
The crash maybe is due to a problem in your PC.
Personally, I normally choose MKV format and HD 720p quality for my rip's.
Hope this can help you!
I use Handbrake, although may check out Freemake, to convert.
I also use DVD43 as well, never failed yet, for those copy protected DVD's

I second this, MX Player is a great app for playing those video files like .avi, .mpg, and .mkv that most movies come in these days. Perfect for watching my anime's xD
I do try to watch video full hd 720 however I can not if
Another one for mx player here, one of the only apps on the market that fades out the icons on the notification bar just like the sony stock app.

Imo moboplayer is a lot better than mx video player. Mx player just doesn't seem as clear.
Btw I'm a new sony tab user soon. Just ordered one.
