Tether DX2 to PS3? - Motorola Droid X2

I have crappy internet connection at my house and I was wondering if there was any way to tether my DX2 to my PS3 so I can do some sweet online multilayer gaming.. I have tried using barnacle, which I understand broadcasts an ad-hoc network and the PS3 needs infrastructure... I think.. im pretty sure... but anyway, does anyone do this? Or know how to do this?

[Q] does wifi tethet work on x2

hi. resently i got a droid x2 as a replacement. and i cant get the wifi tether app to work on it. it is rooted and just wont work. my last droid x worked with the liberty rom on it. but i cant get this one to work. can some one let me know how to make it work . or if it even works on the x2? thanks.
Both the release and beta versions from http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ work just fine for me.
Sometimes my laptops have trouble connecting, and to fix it I restart the tether but once they're connected it's very reliable and does not disconnect.
Wifi Tether versions I've used: 3.1 beta 2 and 2.0.7
There is now a wifi tether v3 beta 5 available and I have not tested that one yet.
I did try those apps. I practically tried all of them. It just doesn't put out any wifi. Before I used my DROID x to tether with my ps3 but now my ps3 wont even pick up the access point.

The wifi tether for the DROID X2 doesn't do infrastructure mode, it does ad-hoc mode.
That may be why the PS3 doesn't pick it up.
This phone will only broadcast in adhoc mode, and your device probably needs infrastructure mode. I've tried everything imaginable to get it to work with no luck.
Is there any way to make it broadcast in infrastructure mode?

The kernel of the phone has to support it, and our's does not.
*If* the bootloader is ever unlocked, we will be able to change the kernel to support infrustructure.
Dam that sucks. Well I guess we'll just have to wait an see if anyone gets the bootloader unlocked. But thanks for letting me know guys.

Open Garden Wifi Tether not recognizing clients

Hello everyone,
I am hoping someone can help me out. I am currently rooted on 2.3.4 and am trying to wireless tether using Open Garden on my droid X2. It has no problem starting up and running, my iTouch even finds the signal and connects (this is indicated by the wireless symbol on my iTouch). However, OG does not recognize any clients connected. Also, my iTouch cannot do anything internet related even though it is connected to a wifi network.
edit: I also failed to say I have Verizon, not sure if that matters.
Any ideas? I've been doing some research and haven't found anything too helpful
Thanks!

It works :

It is my understanding that once rooted you can just use the WiFi Tether:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
I here that the Beta is working on the DX2 and works great.
Im using barnacle and works very well...I connect my galaxy tab and my hp touchpad both running CM7

+1 to barnacle! I use it for my laptop! Works awesome!
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
i will give that one a try! thanks!
you are able to run CM7 on the DROID X2? Which one are you using? Last time I checked the X2 wasn't on their website.
Also, would you mind telling me what settings you are using for Barnacle? The same issue I had with OG is what is going on with Barnacle. itouch says connected, Barnacle says no clients connected. Maybe there is something wrong in the settings...
would you mind also telling me what settings you are using for Barnacle? I am wondering if maybe I just don't have it set up correctly.
It helps to know that it works for some people! I have hope I can troubleshoot it now =)
I have the CM7 on my galaxy tab and hp touchpad. I didn't do anything special on the barnacle...just downloaded and off I went. The only thing I did not do was secure it. Didn't feel like messing with another security key that I would forget. Couldn't get barnacle to connect my laptop...but I got easy tether for that.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
oh gotcha. so you are running the default setting with no security right? hrmm. wonder why mine won't recognize clients. I will try to do an unsecured setting again. I think I tried it but I may be mistaken.
Thanks! and thanks for the quick reply =)
Yep default settings. I just looked and I've got skip wpa supplicant checked and also auto associate checked as well

oh awesome. thanks again. really appreciate the input.
getting my phone to successfully tether has been quite the task. for your vista laptop you use easy tether right? Is that a wired tether or wireless?
Its wired....and I have to say works extremely well...I videochat with my gf on msn and video quality doesn't seem compromised at all
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
I will have to try that for my laptop. I'm glad I found out that Barnacle does not work with vista comps, it will save my husband a lot of frustration trying to get it to work.
did you get easy tether from the market?
Yes I did...9.99 I believe...very simple to use also

ah. gotcha. found it in the market. has decent reviews too

Free Wireless Hotspot

I haven't rooted yet, I am on vacation. But thought I would see if anyone would try the sqlite hack that worked for free mobile hotspot on the bionic.
If you don't know what I am talking about just look at youtube for Bionic Free Wireless Hot Spot. There are lots of videos.
This worked awesome on the bionic and I hope it does on the Razr. If not, I will give at a go when I get back.
wrong forum.. if you didn't create/develop it then it belongs in general or q&a
thanks
Or if rooted, you can just download android wireless tether and set your profile as Motorola Targa and use encryption. Works great.

the sqlite method requires root as well...
Does this allow for 4g tethering or 3g?
Thanks
Worked on lte

Thanks Black, that is awesome. The sqlite hack is the best for free wireless tethering I have seen. 4g tethering with this method is flawless.
hello again sorry for the amount of questions but I just want to make sure before I switch to the 20gb plan without tethering. I see that there is encryption to make this work does this slow down the 4g in any noticeable form?
Thanks
I haven't noticed any differences between this or using a dedicated hotspot from VZW.

Has anyone had issue with not connecting to certain sites? I've done 2 razr now & both same issues. I've tried everything. Here's some of the sites runryder.com, heliproz.com, & bunch of others. Is there a reason some sites won't connect?. I used these sites all the time with my bionic

What are you using to connect? The native hotspot app or one from somewhere else? I think there's some type of setting for the native app.

I've tried verizons hotspot, i've tried Wif itether & barnacle all same thing. I've tied this on laptops, iPad & other smartphones all had same issues. Can someone try the sites I've listed & post yr findings. Thanks this us driving me crazy
i have same problem. XT910 @ Rooted. my ipad and notebook could connect my XT910, but could not connect to any website. Try build-in wifi hotspot apps ( USB & wifi both not work) & wireless tether, same result.
also check the DHCP setting, same result too. SO confuesing .....

Best tethering app?!

I am trying to tether my Droid X2's 3G to my new Galaxy Player 5.0, I have tried Barnacle and a couple other tethering apps from the market but the GP is not reading my network.
I tried searching for this but found nothing so I figured I would get the communities opinion on what the best way to do this is.
Thanks in advance!

Edit: I have noticed that Barnacle works better for me through the Droid X2, I don't know what everyone else is using, but this is what has worked the best for me.
I too am trying to tether my x2 running eclipse rom to my player with barnacle. I tried open garden bluetooth and it wouldn't work. Can you explain how to replace the thing with barnacle? Thanks!
It found my Optimus-V hotspot in a few seconds, just using the hotspot widget in Widgetsoid2. I've onlyhad the need/desire to tether once since I have wifi at home and work. Not supposed to tether with VM anyway
Ditto to the above, what works for me is using wireless hotspot app. I have my Epic 4g running a custom ROM called CleanGB http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344074 and it includes a 'custom' WireLess Hotspot that I leave running so my wife's Galaxy Player 5 can jump on my 3G/4G via WiFi. (don't get me going though on the slug and almost non-existent Sprint 4G)
Find it interesting (and frustrating) that Barnacle calls itself a ' WiFi tether' but is actually a wireless hotspot. Tether in cell phone speak has always implied a wired connection between your phone and another device. Hope those lines don't start blurring.
Best tethering (phone to computer via USB cable) IMHO is hands down PDANet from a company called June Fabrics. It works seemlessly in Windows XP and Windows 7. Even if your provider charges you to use tethering via their Android or Blackberry app, PDANet can hide the data connection.... They also make one for the Mac OSx environment I believe.

[Q] Unlock Hotspot

My coworker has the Galaxy S II and he's flashed his phone he was able unlock the hotspot that already came with his phone. I was wondering if anyone has been able to do the same for the MoPho and if so could anyone possibly give me the link for this software.
You have to root.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA
Well I do have root.I need a wifi tether that isn't running in ad-hoc mode but infrastructure and the only one I know to do that would be the phone's own hotspot already installed but need to be unlocked
That's weird cause for some reason the phone's own hotspot won't work for me at times, but the app does. Sorry I can't help then.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA
Thats because the hot spot on the phone is ties in with sprint, you want wifi tether, just google it, and a custom kernel
