Best Android phone with a QWERTY keyboard? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What is the best Android phone that I can get that has a QWERTY keyboard?
I am looking at the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro at the moment. I don't want to spend beyond $575. Also is that phone EVER going to be released anywhere else apart from the USA and Canada because I am from Australia. So I can't get it from the fido site because I am not Canadian.
I seen it on Basatne Electronics. Are they a good company to buy from?

Ive got a Desire z, which does the trick for me, not too expensive now but a very functional and good looking phone imho
Sent from a htc desire z

Thanks, I was looking at that phone some time ago actually, I'm now thinking of getting the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro.

HTC G2, Motorola Droid 2, Samsung Epic 4G, HTC Desire Z

I vote for T-Mobile 4G Sidekick. It seems to fit the best relation price/quality/specs

@Edas, the Sidekick 4G I don't really like the design of to be honest. Also we don't have T-Mobile in Australia, I am planning to order online but because we have not so good phones here on our networks. Well there all REALLY expensive. Like $600+ AUD.
@Piaer, The Samsung Epic 4G looks an option for me even though its on Sprint but I should be able to find it unlocked hopefully somewhere. HTC Desire Z looks promising, I might have a bit more of an in-depth look to them.

[Q] Should i get this phone?!

Im thinking of up grading to the Vibrant. Any reason not to? Is there a better phone on the horizen? Im currently with T-mobile and dont want to switch. Thanks in advance!!
Only other choice is the T-Mobile G2 (Oct 6.) or myTouch HD (rumored to release November '10?). I've gotten the Vibrant since week one and don't regret getting it. The Super AMOLED screen is definitely beautiful and one of the things admired most from this phone.
get it
best screen. like a hdtv in your pocket
t-mobile has great 3g speeds
hummingbird > snapdragon
released in 100+ countries, including every major carrier in the US so community support should be huge
there's always better phones on the horizon, but this is the phone i've been waiting for ever since the iphone was announced years ago. and it hasn't disappointed
no it sucks. *at the airport, using vibrant to tether 3g to laptop*
G2 is very appealing and I am considering switching... it comes down to physical keyboard and stock android VS bigger and much better screen, slightly better hardware..

while i understand this viewpoint, touchwhiz is easily disabled. there is also no guarantee that the G2 will get the same OTA updates as the N1 simply because it is stock android. the original droid on verizon is a good example.
but yeah, if you need/want a hardware keyboard the G2 is a better choice (obviously). unless you can deal with sprint and the epic
I got two. My wife approved.
My 3rd android phone (just from passion of the OS), this is by far my most favorite of them. Speed, Design, Display... love everything about it.
Touchwiz is actually very usable from personal experience and reviews. It added alot of 'shortcuts' that makes life alot easier. For example, swipe notification bar to change brightness while outdoor, instead of going through 3-4 menus. Overall, Vibrant is a very solid phone at stock, definitely recommend it.
Only issues now are the GPS and Froyo, mostly Froyo.
+Amazing looking screen, ignore the iPhone 4 people and their color fidelity nonsense, the Vibrant is more colorful that the iPhone 4 and looks a lot better when viewing pictures and movies.
+Runs very fast, 1ghz processor.
+Very thin and light compared to the iPhone 4 (especially now that everyone has put a case on theirs), the back is plastic not glass, but I like saving the weight and I think the patterned back looks fine, comes with 2 colored backplates in the package I got.
+Android, with an open market, unlike At&t's flavor, the Captivate.
+Currently the best T-mobile phone available if you need to get a new one right now.
+Shoots 720p at 30fps. Big selling point, my friend bought a flip video and my phone takes the exact same quality of video and I don't have to carry an additional device, the camera is 5mp and also quite good.
Some downsides
-T-mobile took out some features from the stock Galaxy S, including fm radio, front facing camera and flash. I don't really need a front facing camera or a flash, the night mode works very well and renders a flash almost useless. Fm radio would be nice but I can live without it, I just loaded up my own music.
-Bloatware, it comes with a slew of crappy apps that you cannot remove without rooting. I would strongly recommend rooting, deleting bloatware, and then unrooting (The sales rep. at T-mobile actually recomended this ) It's about as safe as it can get and very easy, 1 click root and unroot, just look for it on xda. Also expect this on other T-mobile phones, except maybe the G2.
If you can wait a little just to see what's planned for the winter you might consider it, but I doubt you will be that disappointed if you buy the vibrant now. T-mobile has had a sad list of Android phones besides the Nexus One, so I doubt there's anything better than the myTouch or G2 coming out.

What's the point coming here and trolling? If you dont like their products then don't look here. And as far as the downside. It's not t-mobile its all us carriers so don't call out t-mobile.

I am not trolling, period.
If we, T-Mobile USA customers are not honored, we should boycott that manufacturer.
Why shan't that Galaxy tab come to T-Mobile, but will go to AT&T, Sprint, and VZW?????

So you're upset that T-Mobile isn't getting the Samsung Galaxy S Tab? What makes you think that it is 100% on Samsungs part?
This is the SAMSUNG VIBRANT forum, I honestly don't care too much about a tablet because I'll never use it. I just find the tablet and the Vibrant to be irrelevant. If anything.. why would you would a contracted tablet? If anything I would want a WiFi only version and just tether with my phone.
Samsung has been moving away from cutting exclusive deals with wireless operators for its growing slate of mobile devices. It launched its most recent smartphone, the Galaxy, with the top four U.S. wireless operators, Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile USA. T-Mobile USA, a unit of Deutsche Telekom AG and the fourth-largest U.S. wireless carrier, hasn't yet worked out a deal to carry the tablet, a person familiar with the matter said.

[Q] Using the Jetstream outside the US

Hi
So I'm interested in buying the jetstream, but I have some questions, especially for people living outside the US.
I understand I will have to buy a code to undo the sim lock, and I will have to find a friend with a US social security number, and someone who can post the Jetstream onto me from the states.
My questions are:
I know that the UK does not have LTE yet, but will the jetstream work through 3g networks in the UK?
Will the warranty apply outside the US? How long is the warranty for?
Also, I know this has probably been asked before, but has anyone heard about a UK release?
Some more general questions:
Did anyone buy the gel case from AT&T? is it any good?
Do you have to add the pen to basket to get the reduction or does it come bundled?
Has anybody had any joy with writing recognition overlay apps?
Thanks a lot
Hi,
no problems using the HTC Jetstream outside of the US, i use it in the middle east over 3G networks.
get one to yourself, unlock it from AT&T to use any SIM and enjoy.
Mine came without the pen, i will get one for myself.
So far, its an amazing tablet, superb screen respond and amazing resultion of true colors.
got mine over ebay.

Hi Everyone,
I'm dying to get one and I've searched ebay inside out with no positive results so far. Could someone please provide me with some links on where this tablet can be purchased?
Thanks in advance

Do you have any idea what the status of the AT&T warranty is if the item is damaged outside the states?
cheers
works like a charm
Can confirm it works perfectly well once unlocked.....posting from Saudi on my jetstream right now and just last week all 3 networks here upgraded to provide 4G LTE I also bought the HTC gel case from AT&T it fits like a glove as it should as it is made by HTC and feels great, however it is very RED, but with nothing else out there right now so bit the bullet and purchased.
When I ordered online pen was automatically in basket.
In a recent interview with an HTC bigwig he stated the jetstream would not be introduced in Europe due to AT&T exclusive Plus lack of LTE services in Europe but HTC were working on other tablets for the region.

Hi, I tried to order it myself, but in AT&T webstore after step 1 they impose you a monthly plan before checkout.
Since I'm outside US I'd like it to come without SIM card, how did you do?
If I remove dataplan it doesn't allow me to proceed.
Thanks for sharing

Us Carrier availability?

Anyone know if any US carriers will be offering the device? I'm with T-Mobile and they have the Xperia Z (a million years after is initial release) and I was wondering if they may follow up with xperia z ultra?

No such information yet.
In fact, I hope that the Ultra WON'T be picked up by a US carrier since it will result in a branded, bloated version with outdated ROM and locked bootloader. The T-Mobile Z is a warning (stuck on 4.1.2 for now, ugly logo on the back, bloatware and locked bootloader) and I would be sad if such a magnificent device as the Ultra would be castrated and humiliated like that.
The Ultra should be experienced as a pure Sony experience. To paraphrase an old Panasonic ad: "Visit Sony Store. Sony all the way. Nothing else."
What I hope for is that Sony will sell the C6806 in their stores since the Sony Store is great. They offer decent financing options too with their Sony Card with different rewards and points for those that doesn't want to pay it outright.
It is time for people in the US to buy devices unlocked, unbranded, bypassing the carriers altogether. What those carriers are doing to their devices is just horrible and sad.
T Mobil
I have the unlocked, unbranded X.Z.U. running T-Mobile and I couldn't be happier!
The only thing is I have to turn off WiFi in order to send picture texts. Why? No one knows!
Look into your MMS settings, that might be your problem.

[Q] Need help buying a phone

I'm looking to replace my aging Desire Z or Mytouch4G Slide. Both phones would be great if it wasn't for the roms on them that lack speed and stability, especially with KitKat. I would like a cheap QWERTY phone that has good XDA community support and can be used on T-Mobile. I really really doubt I can find a good qwerty phone so I'll have to jump on the iphone copy cat phones. So far the best that I've found is the LG Optimus L90. Seems to have a community here and doesn't suck in specs.
If anyone has better suggestions please let me know. Oh yea, SD card slot is required. None of that cloud nonsense.
what's your budget
About $150 to $200 max. I saw your sig springning and that would be a great device for me, if it worked as a phone. There is the JXD S5800 which would be great if 3G worked for T-Mobile. There is the Much W1 which does work on T-Mobiles 3G but costs a butt load of money. As you can guess I used the physical keyboard mostly for gaming.
There's also the Much G2 but can't tell if the 3G works on T-Mobile. I found this SHARKK Phone on Amazon with good reviews and decent specs but nothing on XDA about that brand.
