[q] urgent help needed! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Here is my problem.....I recently got the shw-m250s from korea.
I brought it to canada to use and there were many problems.
My first main concern was that the data was extremely slow.......
Secondly connection was always extremely bad.....
Thirdly sms functions did not work......
So after intense digging on this site.......People had solutions to the first two probelms.....so i tried it install new firmware, install custom firmware.....install new modem.bin files.....etc.etc. the person that i read off of was using the shw-m250k model......which is very simillar to the 250s.
so after about 15 hours of doing many different things.....nothing seemed to work....
so now im asking the forums to help me fix these issues....its extremely stressful and annoying that nothing is working......
Please help me fix these 3 main issues and i will be forever grateful....
lastly....if none of these things solve my issues....well then.....anyone interested in purchasing the m250s? i will restore factory setting and such....selling for decent price....if it comes down to it.

i will try my best
1. slow data? on 3g or wifi? i believe it may be your coverage mate. its not the fastest everywhere mate. if u have chance compare the speed with normal SGS2 in the same area. if its 3g check your APN network provider setup and make some changes that may follow. you can check that in setings-wireless-network--APN
2. conexion extremly bad - again the same apply - u cant compare this model with any other i mean with sgs1. the best way to find out whats the difference will be checking the signal of "real" SGS2.
3. i will recomend you to check Message centre - its inside MSG app - settings it maybe not supported so you will have to enter it manualy mate.
Hint-any APN or message change will need reboot in order to start working mate.
i know its not a big deal but at least i gave you some ideas.
thanks

Bluetooth need to re-match after Prophet reboot or lost connection

With WM6, I had matched my bluetooth earphone with prophet, then I can see the BT headphone symbol on dialing menu. However, if I reboot Prophet, the connection will lost, when I making a call, it won't auto connect to my BT earphone(the WM5 rom did),I have to open setting->connect>BT rematch it to use my earphone.
The problem also happens if,
1.First build connection between phone and BT earphone.
2.Take away the phone only(far enough to let them unable to communicate)
3.Take back the phone and make a call. The BT connection won't re-connect untill you re-matching it.
It makes me very inconvience, thanks a lot if someone can help me to fix it.
Thank you!
I have the very same problem in all of PDAViet's roms. After soft reset the bluetooth partnership setting is gone (although the symbol of the paired device is still there..) I have asked for a fix several times but no one seems to care.. Very strange that only a few people seem to make regular use of their bluetooth headset....

Why do you complain so unsympatically? Remember that you flashed your device yourself. Nobody forced you, nobody let you pay for the software. You downloaded all by yourself a file that a smart person somewhere in Vietnam or Thailand or Russia or where ever, has put together becourse his hobby is to fool around with his PDA. That same person was so friendly to let the whole world join in on his party.
But don't complain when that person don't like to spend his time on your problems, for as far we know his doesn't have a BT headset at all and isn't interested in that functionality. It will become a whole different piece of meat when you had purchased the ROM, but you haven't....... did you....?
Cool...
rondol1 - I like your thinking, my sentiments exactly.
is there anyone can help?
Same sproblem with other bluetooth devices
I think it is not just a BT headset problem but a BT stack problem. I'm using a BT GPS and I had to re-pair GPS and Prophet each time I use (althoughit seems like it is already paired)
It is irrelevant maybe but similar problem exist on e-mails. I create an account for my email provider, download e-mails, but after a reset it looks like my e-mail setting are gone (have to re-configure it) But even when it seems settings are gone I can see it on my today plugin that I have such number of e-mails ( I can get to see them)

I did NOT "complain" about the problem not being fixed so far, but about the missing reaction of some of this community when I posted the question about the status of this problem on new ROMs several times (which this forum should be there for) and there was just no answer at all. Because I do not want to flash my device with every new "release" only to find out that the problem is still there. I am indeed aware of the fact that not everyone is using BT functionality and that a new OS manually adapted to an "older" device is something that cannot be free of issues from the beginning.
Any change on this behaviour with the new PDAViet ROM 4.0.0.0.6 Touch? Anyone tried?
Same problem
Thanks for All and for every thing they did to make prophet for WM6 but this bluetooth problem is really killing me also every time i am using my car bluetooth i have to pair
Same problem in all rom's
Have tried almost all rom's, same problem.
The problem seems not to be releated to the diffrent BT stacks. Have tried different. Also it is not related to the BT devices. Have used Handfree. Stereo headset. GPS unit. Serial ports on remote PC etc. All have the same problem. Works when paired. Then after a soft reset unit are still in the BT list. But they have all have to be re paired to work.
Surely have something to do, with the units loosing most, or some of the settings after reset. Its an anoying problem, which we all will have to look into.
All the new rom's are nice to have, and to play with. But if we wants the rom's to be good for regular and daily use. We sure needs to fix this problem.
I will start to do my own little investigation, trying to fix the problem.
The problem is the same in all rom's. So if its solved in one rom, I'm pretty sure its solved in all roms. (99% sure , I think)

I know why this is but so far I havn't figured out how to solve it.... the problem is that settings are stored in the ram and not the rom... the way we need to get it to work is have the regestry moved to the extrom and that way it can be writen to directly without having to keep the regestry in the ram..... this can be done but I havn't fully understood how this is don't because I've been trying so hard to figur uot the X button problem... but I'm reading up on how to do that

Thats correct. Seeting in RAM are lost, and there by Bluetooth pairing, email settings etc. Now knowing what causes the problem, some one clever, sure will some up with a solution. Will try to se if I can contribute with anything.

Strange thing is, I've tried a few WM6 ROM, but never had any problems with lost emailsettings. I use it a lot, and just as everybody, I have to do a soft reset, once in a while...
So, the RAM storage as you describe isn't lost in all cases but also written to ROM.
As for BT I only use my gps-receiver and even that one only now and then It seems t work fine, but to be honest most of the time I've flashed my Prophet between several times....
I've the same problem with BT : always working with BT GPS, always loosing my BT Headset (try with 3 differents Headsets ...).
Be with devellop's team for correct this probem, and not with guy who critic this post without an BT Headset .... This is a forum and the critic is here to help the building of a 'very good' and more stabe as possible WM6 Rom ...
All together for the future ....

try change your battery or just pull out your battery overnight, i'm sure you will experience this problem. Sometimes on my phone when battery goes below 50% if I reset will loose setting sometimes. Just annoying but i can live with it.
The only way to keep your bluetooth, wifi and email settings all the time without worries is to use WM5.
If someone wants to try the bug, just soft-reset the phone while connected to the PC via activesync.
I guess that you will lose your settings (i'm not 100% sure because I'm now using WM5).
okeee.....
That are things I didn't try indeed. But at the other hand, what hould I want to do all that?
Tried the battery-change right away. Everything is still in order, no settings missing, time and date still as it should, email working as it allways did.
I did shut down my device first though.

You might be one of the lucky ones then. I believe majority of us looses settings at various times. what model specs are your device do you have anyway? is it new when u purchased? the reason i asked cuz somewhere i read there is a "button cell battery" might be a wizard thing not prophet devices.

I did buy my S200 new, without any branded OS, that means straight from Qtek. It's a G4, other specs Im willing to tell when you can precise what you want to know.
But... I don't want to be arrogant... when I read the many bug-reports I get the feeling that a majority don't use their device as it is supposed to. If you imagine that it is a small device with very limited hardware specs, it's not hard to understand that it isn't as foolprove as your desktop computer...
But again, it's just a feeling I get by reading many post, I also know that some of you have serious issues that cannot be explained from maluse point of view.

[Q] wifi tethering ridiculous fluctuations, those tech minded please reply

Hi XDA Users
I use my SGS2 for wifi tethering and I wonder if anyone can help/recommend or merely explain why the speeds I get when my laptop is connected to my phone using the in-built wifi tehering tool vary so much (please see attached picture)
Last night for instance I was achieving 1Mbps download speeds while using a torrent client but today I struggle to get 50kps.
Is there an app to show me what speed the phone is connected to my laptop is and in anyway control the settings?
I don't believe the variation of 20kps to 1Mbps( it hit 1.1Mbps at 1 point) can be down to the network directly, meaning traffic etc.
I use a rooted SGS2 with DiLiDroid ICS - UHLPS rom/kernel etc, ( purely for jkay deluxe settings) on the 3UK network with Unlimited/All You Can Eat Data.
Any thoughts, explanations, recommended apps, ANY REPLY frankly will be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys, more than once this site has come up trumps for me here's hoping it does again
got a few ideas but it doesnt really matter why just how to fix it, try and use some different combos of wifi tethering. first you need to troubleshoot and find what the actual problem is. try it with usb tethering and see if you have the same problem. if the usb is fine then its a problem with the wifi and not the data connection, so on and so forth. you need to narrow it down until you can provide enough information so people can actually help you.
in situations like this, you havent given much info and you havent (by the looks of things) dont anything yourself to try and narrow down the problem. all youve done is noticed something isnt right and come straight here to get us to do all the work for you. i dont know why thats happening and ill be suprised if anyone can give you a definite answer. there are just so many points of failure in your problems its impossible to say which one it is without you giving way more information and doing 99% of the work to fix this problem yourself.

I don't know how to ''trouble shoot'' my problem, that is why I asked for any sort of help i.e apps that I should use to help identify the problem.
I didn't noticed a problem and come straight on here, I searched google for a good few hours but the results were not connected to my problem, which is also why I asked for tech-minded people to give me advice, I don't know where to begin.
This morning I was getting 500+kps downloads while wifi tethered so I'm certain it is not a data/network issue.
I will try usb tethering BUT I would still like any advice WHATSOEVER from anyone who may read this, cheers
That your data speeds are so variable almost certainly points to perfectly normal network/congestion related issues. This kind of thing is a frequent problem faced by users of mobile networks all over the world.
You do realise the data speeds you'll get at any given moment will be determined by a) the number of people using the cell you're connected to, b) how much traffic your carrier has going in/out of its network to the 'outside world' (and how much backhaul it has) and c) how much traffic the network that the site you're trying to access (or the people assisting you to steal copyrighted material) is experiencing.
These factors will naturally/obviously cause data speeds to fluctuate much more widely on a wireless/mobile connection than they would over a wired connection.
Postfatal is absolutely right re: there's sod all anyone here could tell you to 'fix' the issue. It's basic troubleshooting. Similar steps to what you'd follow if you thought a PC internet connection wasn't up to par. Google is your friend if that kind of thing is beyond you.
Occam's Razor is normally correct.

try with some third party 'wifi tethering' apps from store and see if the issue persists with that also

I seriously doubt a range of 20kps to 1.1Mbps can be down to traffic on the network, I'm backed up by thinking this because I can download on the phone directly at close to 1Mgps speeds consistently and then tether and get close to no speed at all.
It seems that if I reboot the phone and then leave it for a few minutes before turning wifi tether on it will connect at a higher speed, I would love a way of ''forcing'' the phone to connect at it's highest level available, but I don't know if thats possible or how I would even do a google search on it, what search terms are you suggesting? Everything I try gives unrelated results.

USB Tethering makes no difference to the speed whatsoever, has that narrowed it enough for someone to maybe give me some advice?
Will someone please tell me what tools/apps/pc programs I can use to attempt to identuify the problem myself? PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE?
The only semi-useful app I've found is UpDownMeter free, but this only tells me lol the up and down speeds, interesting but not of any use.
Come on guys you guys are smarter than me, been there done it etc, help me help dudes

[Q] Galaxy S3 knockoff - does GPS work, can I change firmware?

Hi all
I hope that I am in the right place.
I currently have a MyTouch phone but was in China last week and saw these Galaxy S3 knockoffs and figured I would buy one.
I am now back in the States and the Galaxy works quite well but there are a few things I cannot get to work and was hoping someone could help.
Firstly the data connection from my service provider seems quite slow compared to the MyTouch.
Secondly the GPS does not seem to work. I have tried a few different combinations but no luck. I have enabled and disabled the Google location in the settings to no avail. I have left the phone on for more than 15 minutes trying to get a GPS signal but still no luck.
I know that the phone is a knockoff and did not expect much but it sure does work faster than the MyTouch – apart from the GPS and data.
So my question is –
Is there a way to get it to work? Would it be possible to reload the software on the phone with one from an original Galaxy? I am not sure of the terminology but does that mean I would need to flash the phone or root the phone – if this is the case, how easy is it to do and would it brick my phone?
Where would I get the firmware from to do so?
Any (detailed) help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

As far as i know these SGS3 knockoffs or clones do not have the same hardware as the SGS3 so you can't use custom SGS3 roms.
This forum is of no use to you unfortunately, do a search for your model on Google and you should find some forums that might help you

[Q] Poor Signal Quality - Please Help!

Hello - Dear XDA Developers Community,
First up... I'm a NOOB! (thought I'd get that out of the way first & foremost).
2nd - Please no suggestions I get my money back (already pursuing that option)
I've had a fairly modest history with Android devices, culminating in my most recent purchase a used Samsung Galaxy SII (18 months old) off eBay from a private seller. Unfortunately, from the minute I switched it on I expereinced chronic problems in achieving a reliable & consistent signal for voice & data. I'm in the UK on a PAYG & 3 are my network provider.
Upon switching the S II on with my old SIM inserted & going through some initial config (google account, SMS configuration settings, etc). I experienced intermittent signal loss for both voice & data. sporadically my phone would have no service or 1 bar (voice only!!). Expecting this to be a transient network issue I switched my SIM back into my old phone (Samsung Galaxy Ace) which gave me a consistent 3G signal. Now alarmed, I called 3 Customer services & we went through a rather lengthy trouble shooting session on the phone (multiple reboots, manually entering network details, restoring factory settings, etc). None of this worked and the 3 guy recommended I upgrade to the latest Samsung approved firmware in the hope that would perhaps fix the problem. I successfully update the firmware (details below) but the problem remained the same....
Current Android Level :-
Android Version : 4.1.2
Baseband Version: I9100NELS1
Kernel Version 3.0.31-889555
I perfomed the same tests at my house with identical results. Galaxy Ace with same SIM had decent, reliable & consistent 3G signal whereas my S2 with the same SIM struggled to achieve 1 bar at best (not even 3G or HDSPA - just a very weak voice signal). I called 3 customer services again who advised following all the action taken (and in light of both locations - B98 9AY & CV11 6GH having no coverage or network problems) the problem is definitely with the handset & there's nothing they can do.
So, I went for a stroll...... Amazingly in other areas I can achieve a good signal with high speed data transfer rates on HDSPA+ (up to 8 meg according to speedtest app). Unfortunately, in the two locations I spend the vast majority of my time (Office & Home) the phone is rarely anything other than a glorified WiFi enabled device.
I also remembered I had a GiffGaff SIM so gave this a try as well. The singal was also patchy at best and I didn't even get anything approaching a data strength reception. I checked on the o2 coverage checker which informed my location should easily be able to pick up a good voice & data signal. All of which strengthens my suspicions the problem is with the handset itself.
I've spent many hours trawling the Internet for solutions and can't see too many instances that closely match the symptoms I'm experiencing. I've downloaded the OpenSignal app - which is of limited use for me. At the moment I'm thinking this will have one of three root causes (at the moment I'm sulking and thinking it's option 1).
1) The Samsung Galaxy S II receiver is simply crap and there's nothing I can do
2) The Samsung Galaxy S II receiver is defective or inefficient at a hardware level (could send off to have it fixed)
3) There's some problem with the drivers/firmware for the receiver that will require a custom ROM upgrade to fix.
I'm open to the idea of rooting & installing a custom ROM to fix this, but only want to go down this route if it's pretty certain to have a positive outcome for this problem.
Thanks for taking the time to read this & look forward to your replies.
Kind Regards,
BrokenSparrow.
try the nordic 4.1.2 rom download HERE link from sammobile.com. flash it and see if it helps other than that you could try different modem files.. there is as thread about it around here some were....... HERE give that a go and see what happens gotta be worth the shot before righting off the whole phone... GOOD LUCK
That's tells me it's most likely down to the particular equipment your carrier is using in the cells close to where you use the phone the most (when it doesn't work). If it were a hardware issue, you'd either have the problem intermittently everywhere or all the time/everywhere. Tho that doesn't completely rule out a hardware issue; I'm just saying, on balance & on the evidence you've offered, that's my theory.
What I'd do in your situation phone-wise is to go back to ICS stock - rooted (not 4.0.4) & flash a bunch of different modems (rooting your phone/having CWM rather than stock recovery will make this process relatively simple) & see if you find one that improves your connectivity where you use the phone most. Unfortunately, modems are black boxes & largely undocumented (publicly at least), so people have found out through trial & error which modems seem to work well with which carriers/in which countries (and sometimes even in certain areas; that variation in equipment carriers use in different base stations).
A good place to start is try all the modems bundled with stock roms released by your carrier. Reasoning being you'd hoped your carrier would have thoroughly tested every facet of a rom before releasing it, and that the modem bundled with it would work with their network most of the time/in most places.
If you still didn't have any joy once you've done that (not very many to try given your carrier has probably only released a handful or roms, so it wouldn't take you long), then you could search here & look at what modems other people had tried with your carrier & try those, then you could start trying any/every modem you can get your hands on (there's dozens; relax, if one doesn't work, the worst thing that can happen to your phone is you'll have no connectivity with that particular modem, which you remedy by going back to one you know works).
If you'd done all that & still had the same problem, I'd be sending it back to seller & frankly, given the problems you've had from the get-go, you may want to consider that sooner rather than later unless you have the stomach to try a lot of stuff that has no guarantee of fixing your problem. You could also have a phone tech take a look at it either before or after you start your own troubleshooting, but if it were me, I'd be returning it given you have no real way of knowing it's history.

I'm open to the idea of rooting & installing a custom ROM to fix this, but only want to go down this route if it's pretty certain to have a positive outcome for this problem.
Thanks for taking the time to read this & look forward to your replies.

Root the handset (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1826497 (thanks pelpa87)) and look into updating the RIL (Radio Interface Layer) / BaseBand (free app available form Play called GetRIL (thanx to SIBBOR) will assist in updating RIL) BaseBand tends to be updates with ROM (so poss update ROM too).
Also, people forget that the SIM card is a micro controller, with its own software, memory and (big pinch of salt here) processor, using a new(er) SIM / USIM card will help improve signal.
All,
Many thanks for your advice so far. I've done the following
- Rooted the phone
- Gone back to ICS 4.0.4 and tried various modems from links provided
- Tried JellyBAM, NordicOS & SlimBean with a combination of different modems
- Ran the GetIRL utility and matched up with Baseband version
I get similar results from all of these steps & the common denominator appears to be the modem. I experience slightly improved reception using NEL3 and XXG3. These improvements are marginal, but do at least give me a voice only connection in the afforementioned locations (but interestingly only on Orange/3 - which I guess is 3's failsafe network).
Also, discovered Samsung warranty for all smart phones is 24 months.... As this handset is only 18 months old it may be eligible for repair as the small print on the warranty statement declares the warranty entitlement can be transferred to different end users. This does represent me with a slightly different problem however! I've been messing around with the phone rather a lot (more than enough to void the warranty). So, before I send it off I need to make it as close to the stock version of Android as I can. These are the things I can think of....
- Install latest stock Firmware via Kies (think this should unroot and put me back on a stock kernel)
- Remove all the zip files used for "tinkering" from the internal SD card
- Also noticed several times there a utility that shows you exactly how many times custom ROM's have been put on the device - so this is something I'm anxious to remove as well. Any other points or advice on how to conceal my "tinkering" from Samsung?
Thanks & Regards,
Graham.

It's possible that the previous owner replaced the USB flex cable/board with the newer version, which requires a resistor to be de-soldered otherwise it will have extremely poor reception. The previous owner might not have stumbled upon this fix, and thought he'd just get his money back by selling it. Check LittleCanon's post and pictures on page 2 of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611409 and compare the pictures to your usb flex cable/board. It's a very simple & easy fix if that's the case. I replaced the usb flex cable/board on my i777 and had the same exact issue until I de-soldered that resistor, now it works perfectly.

need help Blackview Zeta

Hello everyone
I explain my problem.
I bought it a few Blacview Zeta, this phone encountered problems with the GPS and network reception problems.
I thought, "How bad idea" that I went searching on the internet an official rom to see if the problems could beings corrected.
I went to the official website of BlackView then I followed a link to download the rom.
While Roma are available on their official forum, so I download with confidence, I flash the phone, I restarts the phone and then surprise the display is illuminated but a black screen with vertical and horizontal lines.
The phone responds well to touch and hear different sound when you click on the screen. But we see nothing except the lines.
So I posted on the forum, but none of my posts do appear, I send messages directly to the contacts available on the official website no answers.
So I searched the internet for several days so I found other Roma.
I found three different rom a v0.5 and a v0.6 v0.7 but the problem remains the same at the screen.
I also saw the other person have the same problem as me, but she did not find one solution.
To me it seems that this is a graphic driver problem, a hardware modification to the model to be made that I own.
So I'm looking desperately this rom "S509_G3_Blackview_Zeta_V1.2_20160309" which is the one that corresponds to my phone.
I know my message is long, but I tried to explain to me the best.
Anyway thank you to everyone who can help me
sincerely Vincent

Well coming back to you I found a ROM that matches my Zeta.
In made there are two versions of Zeta normal and V16, V16 I am..
Except that the rom that I found can be returned to the phone with "easy TRWP" I understand the procedure except that it must enable the USB debugging, but as I see absolutely nothing on the screen I can not activate it.
I know if a developer can do something with this rom so I can flash it with spflashtool?
I put a link is on my personal server that contains the rom.
I sincerely hope that someone finds a solution for me.
Because my skills are not sufficient to do something with this rom.
Thank you
