Reinstall the ROM you are running and that will put it back at default - don't wipe or anything. Or, restore the backup you should have made before applying the new theme

Ok so wolf. You know my problem... I just reinstalled the v2 that I have been on and it worked perfectly fine. However trying to download another version or a UOT it freezes? WTF

Re-Flashing The Rom Isn't A Bad Idea. Depending On Your Skills, Just Extract The SystemUI.apk And framework-res.apk And Push Them Onto The Phone And Perform A Reboot.
Locations:
SystemUI.apk /system/app
framework-res.apk /system/framework
Permissions For Both Files: rw-r--r--

[Q] Applications crash after pushing modded framework-res.apk

After rebooting with a modded/pushed framework-res.apk i can see my changes (status bar bg, etc).
But shorty after entering my pin code, several applications crash, repeatedly. Why is this happening?
Here's what i did:
Code:
adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk
2. Opened framework-res.apk in BetterZip
3. Extracted pngs to be edited in photoshop
4. Dropped edited pngs back to framework-res.apk in BetterZip and saved file
5. Signed the .apk with Android-sign.app
Code:
adb reboot recovery
adb shell
mount system
exit
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework-res.apk
adb reboot
Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong here, I tried flashing cache. Tried doing this process on OpenFireROM but ended up in a bootloop.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
tried zipalign, still no luck
maybe i'll just buy an iphone
Try wipe dalvik cache this should help

Did you try putting the original meta-inf folder and manifest xml back into your modified framework?

After you compile the apk.

I tried a new approach on this now;
decompiling framework-res.apk with apktool
editing pngs in photoshop
building new .apk with apktool
now i noticed the compiled .apk did not include the META-INF folder, so i tried two approaches here;
1) signing it with android-sign.app (on mac os), this did not work
2) I included the original META-INF folder and saved the files using a zip manager, this failed too
thought i had it when i saw the decompiled png files
I had this to but tomorrow I will look better to it to look to the problem
Will reply tomorrow what I found

I dont think stock roms can apply themes because they aren't deodexed.
When you compile the apk using apk manager, don't forget to delete the resource.arsc and other files in the keep folder you modified.
Also don't mess with .9 pngs as that can screw your framework if you duno what you're doing.
Or just use the UOT kitchen to make a flashable zip.
Btw you can inject themes on any rom you want
Even with an extracted nandroid backup

i installed windows server 2003 on a virtual machine and made changes to non .9.pngs in 7zip, flashing this worked out fine.
if I decompile a framework and edit the .9.pngs in photoshop, then replacing files in 7zip, would that work?
Yes works by me but have only done a few can be that not every .9.PNG will work, one time 1file was making every app fc so I think just try and if its not working just use backup of the one before and try again I think, I am doing the same

[Q] Modifying framework-res.apk in GB Stock ROM

Just achieved root using azuzu's method and the fist thing I attempted was to get rid of the dull-dark backgrounds on the Stock ROM and use the bright blue backgrounds from the Xperia 1.6 days, which was also ported to 2.1
I modified the framework-res.apk on PC and used RootExplorer to overwrite the existing framework-res.apk but still I dont see any changes in the backgrounds. Any idea what's amiss? Here is a strp-by-step writ of what i did:
1. Use root explorer to copy the existing framework-res.zpk to /SDCARD/
2. Transferred the apk to PC, replaced the existing semc_bg.png and semc_general_bg in the archive.
3. Transferred the modified apk to sdcard.
4. Using root Explorer on the phone, copied the modified apk to /system/
5. Changed the permissions to match the original apk
6. Copied the modified apk from /system/ to /system/framework/ and overwritten the original apk
7. The file gets overwritten successfully - but there is no change in the system background images
Whare am i going wrong? AFAIK there is nothing wrong with the apk (I have learnt that an incorrect framework-res.apk can brick the phone!)
You also need to edit system/framework/SemcGeneralUxpRes.apk
Locate SemcGenericUxpRes.apk (system/framework) and SystemUI.apk (system/app).
They will also need to be modded for a full theme on GB.
*Edit- Lol, M_I ya beat me to it
Thanks @My_Immortal and AyDee.
I had checked the SystemUI.apk and there was nothing to edit in the package. Checking the SemcGenericUxpRes.apk now, will let y'all know soon!
It worked!!! Thanks guys...my UI looks much lore alive now! http://media.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Also don't forget to replace the image for landscape mode too
here is something I wrote earlier:

Someone with mini have to help you. But since no one replying, and to save your time from searching all over the web;
To know which apk that has been modified, open the mod that you have applied using archive apps (winrar should do if you are in windows) and see what apk is inside (generally it should be framework-res.apk and/or SystemUI.apk)
To revert back, one of the way is to extract that apk from stock fw file, copy to your /system/ then change permission rw-r--r-- (if you dont know what it means, just refer to any apk inside /system/app/ permission's, they are all the same generally for /system/app/ and /system/framework/ ). Then, move it to appropiate folder replacing the current file (SystemUI.apk into /system/app/ for example. Better to replace systemui.apk first before framework-res.apk to avoid unexpected fc in the process)
Once done, reboot.
Other ways, ask anyone to make cwm compatible zip file for you to revert back to original or wait for someone to post the apk's here for you.
Thats a very good lessons actually, do a backup first before doing/modifying anything. Dont just simply flash any zip file, see first whats inside, backup whatever files that is affected by that zip to your sdcard is the fastest way (but not 100% reliable compare to make a backup in cwm.
Anyhow, good luck. cheers fren.

[Q] Issues restoring framework-res.apk

Hey Guys,
I have been attempting to mod my framework-res.apk to try and add a percent battery icon (unsuccessfuly so far). Here is my issue, after finding that my modded framework file isnt working properly, I go to try and restore the original. After restoring the original I still get tons of FC's and the only way to get things back to normal is to restore my backup from CWM.
The method I am using to replace my framework-res.apk is to use a root explorer (ES File Manager) to copy the file to /system/ then from there I modify the permissions and then move the file to the framework folder, overwriting the existing file. After this, I reboot the phone.
My question is, why is my original framework-res.apk file causing force closes? It is starting to make me think that even my modded files are ok, but that the issue is arising in the manual transfer.
Sorry if the answer is posted elsewhere, I googled and was only finding issues with the apk not being compiled correctly, but that shouldnt be an issue with the original apk.
*EDIT* I figured it out. It appears it was because Jkay Deluxe was installed. I decided to reflash the rom and try with a fresh copy of the framework-res.apk and everything appears to be working now.

[Q] Getting UOT Kitchen themes to Work

I've been trying to apply a theme generated on UOT kitchen, and the themes I generate only seem to partially apply. (Currently running Stock Rom, with Steve's kernel)
The CWM zip generated by UOT only seems to correctly copy SystemUI.apk into /system/app and framework-res.apk doesn't get applied into /system/framework.
Any attempt on my part to manually copy/move framework-res.apk into /system/framework results in an out of space error, and a bootloop. Eventually I just recovered from an nandroid backup and I was back to the beginning. I also noticed by poking around in the updater-script that twframework-res.apk isn't even copied back to /system/framework, though it exists in the zip archive. Is this normal?
Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Maybe I have a wrong setting in the UOT kitchen, or am I missing a step somewhere? Appreciate any ideas you guys might have.
For stock ROM, it is very easy to run into out of space error because the /system partition is almost full by default. If you cook something big in UOT kitchen, you will not be able to put it back. You will need Titanium Backup to delete or move system apps to free up sufficient spaces.
Also some mods will require support from the ROM as well e.g. overglow support is not there in 2.3.5 stock ROM.
The firmware deodex? In the manual to try, sorry for my English

Yeah, I erased a bunch of stock apps I had frozen and freed up some space. Since then the themes have been working great. Thanks.
