[Q] When Tab 10.1 have update to Honeycomb 3.2 OS? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As title, anyone know when? I see some tablet from HTX or Galaxy already have it!

we'll have it the samsung way. i.e when ice cream comes out, we'll be given the 3.2 update to 'cheer up'.

I won't mind if the tab doesn't see 3.2
I just want ICS when it is released. But of course with Samsungs track record, that'll be next year ;P

how do you guys know we will be getting ics? Have it been mentioned somewhere?

Wishful thinking!?!?!
It'll come when it comes... Why is everyone always crying about when the next update to a device will come?????
I don't really have any issues with my Tab now. I love it, works perfect and does just about everything I need it to do. I haven't even rooted it yet and really haven't had a reason to either.
Instead of worrying about when the next update is coming just try and enjoy what you got.
Anyway every time an update comes for any device (either tablet or phone) the post about "how it wasn't what was expected" or "its buggy" or its..... Well ya... Anyway all those threads start clogging up the forums. But I have to admit those threads do make for some good reading....
On second thought... COME ON SAMMY!!!!! Give em an update already....
Side note: please feel free to flame!!!

Oh man... Just got a look at "thriller99"s profile.... One post... LoL and not to mention after rereading his post he mentions the fact that a "HTX and Galaxy" had the 3.2 update.... I think I's smell a troll!!!!!

I had read in another thread that google made an agreement with manufacturers that they have to give updates to the newest version of Android within 18 months of it's release. Now then they said "It's release" I hope they mean the device, and not the Android version.
But I don't see why we wouldn't get ICS, as it'll really help in terms of Android tablet sales, because it will bring on a TON more apps for the tablets, which is the weak point in terms of Android tablets selling.

Make a donation to PhantomHacker, he is working on a vanilla 3.2 ROM. As for the other questions, we will see ICS running on Tab eventually, the devs will make sure.

The dev's can only develop if they have the source. But that's not the only hurdle! The dev's will also need Samsung drivers for the tab 10.1 too. To get both we need Samsung to release an ICS kernel source (I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong). You can see what happens without the source now as the 10.1 development is pretty much stagnant.

Yeah, I get the sense that a good portion of users here don't really even do much with their devices other than futz around with rooting, fllash alternate ROMs, and obsess over benchmark scores. It's good to optimize your tablet/phone/magic wand but the point of these things is to use the apps, mainly.

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

ya, sr for this issue.
To all: why need to care about my profile?
I don't know my Tab got issue or the OS or ..? Cause: view HD video, sometime the video are freeze but the sound are okay, quit the video player then the sound of video still playing =) Need to restart Tab to view again, anyone got it as me ?

I had an Asus Transformer which was quickly updated to Honeycomb 3.2 to be really truthful aside from transitions being a bit smoother I didn't notice much difference in day to day performance over 3.1. I'm much more intersted in seeing Samsung get ICS pushed out asap as soon as it is ready.

[Q] Ice Cream Sandwich for SGS II?

Hi friends! ICS and Nexus Prime has been launched some hours ago. Frankly speaking, not too impressed with Nexus Prime tech specs. Still only 1.2Ghz processor and 5 MP main camera. I think the Nexus is only a demo model of Samsung for new software. The real deal will come in Galaxy S II or III. When can we expect to get the leaked ICS (Android v4.0) for our existing Galaxy S II model here on XDA? Within a month?
Mod edit: Changed title
I wouldn't count on getting it for several months at least
Edit: can a moderator please move this thread to General
Given someone has already demo'd ICS on a GS2 (http://www.androidunite.com/2011/10/16/ice-cream-sandwich-running-on-galaxy-s2/), albeit in a very unofficial fashion, I don't think it'll be long until we see a ROM on here.

Sorry to disappoint you, but that douche just installed the 2.4 launcher some devs built months ago and added the leaked apps. There are alot of visual differences to the original 4.0 launcher. And he never shows any information about the ROM or the kernel... Just another stupid troll on the net.

I this "version" doesn't appear the virtual buttons of Home, Back and recent apps, for example.
Now that we have the Android 4.0 SDK do we have developers looking at a port?
it's out?
anyway probably will take a while before there's any good 'stable' roms based on it for everyday use

Yeah mate, it's out and the race is on! Hopefully the SGS2 gets one before the other phones
For the benefit of any of you people new to android.
SDK ports are generally awful, most if not all hardware will not work, and lots of apps will also likely not work.
It is possible to get it to a decent working state but it takes a lot of time and effort and this usually does not occur before we get access to the full sources (based on past android OS releases).
So people are/will be trying this but don't expect a fully working SDK port before we get either an SGS2 official leak rom or a AOSP based rom when it is released (likely in a months time).
@OP
This won't answer your question but you really need to watch it.
Looks like there is a system dump spreading on the web, and think dump is better way than SDK.

Ignorance is bliss .
ICS Android 4 has not been released by Samsung .
XDA have a leaked ICS v KP8 Beat test rom not everything works that's why its not released .
You can install or one of the custom roms built around this . But its not for noobs and will of course void your warranty .
jje
I installed it 1 time and i was not happy whit it so i got back to official stuff xD
I found the latest CM9 build from Codeworkx to be stable enough as a daily use ROM. But I prefer TouchWiz to vanilla, so I switched back. It was very smooth though.

You are all gits. Give him a break, it's a reasonable question due to all the different versions flying round.

Rather than being smartasses, why not give the guy an actual answer? If you think that said 'noobs' will be re educated by repeatedly posting that video, you're delusional. Either that or you genuinely think the same joke is funny after the 3rd time in a row, in which case, you're still delusional.
With this kind of attitude rife, nobody will learn to use the forum correctly or get the answers they want, creating yet more noobs.
To answer OPs question - no, there is no official ICS builds
from samsung yet. You're welcome to try a leaked build or Cyanogenmod 9, which I personally find stable enough for daily use. If you want real stability with every feature functional, however, you're going to have to wait to the official version from Samsung.
Next time, to avoid this immature nonsense, do a quick search and browse the development forum.

Some good points, however a bit of mickey taking should be expected
I am running the CM9 ICS ROM and it is very good even at this early stage. Bits like audio out through the Sammy car dock aren't working (as you'd expect) and the video issues are annoying but not show stoppers IMO so I'm using this as my daily driver for now and will see what the battery life is like.
The only real way is to do a backup and try it out for yourself.

I'll tell you why.
More and more people are coming to these forums, and disregard everything that's posted. They jump in, create a thread, ask the same questions, and expect us to do the work for them.
If this specific user took the 15 minutes to read, he would quickly understand that there are two versions of ICS for the GS2 - leaked builds from Samsung, and CM9. He would also quickly understand that none of these are "full working ROMs".
However, seeing as he couldn't bother himself for 15 minutes to at least try and figure things out on his own, I definitely can't be bothered to write a valid response and to encourage that kind of behavior.
The video basically says "search before you post". He should search before he posts. It isn't funny, it isn't a joke, its actually pretty sad the video had to be created in the first place. But it was created, and it does exist, and so I'll use it whenever its appropriate.
XDA is not anybody's personal tech support - this is not a 1-800 number to dial if you're having problems or questions regarding your device. It is, though, an enormous hub of information that is readily available to anyone who's willing to put in the tiny bit of effort required to properly use it.
Soulicro well said put it in a nutshell .
Let Rolling star answer this same question 400 times in a month dont mind ten times a day .

does anyone even own the 4.0 version?

I'm asking because I see development only for the 5.0 version
May want to search a little more.

I own the 4.0 version and I like it.
I own a 4.0, but it is my first Android device, so I am still learning how to hack and mod. There is Steve's kernal, which is about it as far as rom stuff. Custom roms seem a little overrated to me; first thing people ask when they get a device is "what's the best rom?". In truth, android is pretty darn easy to hack, modify, and theme without any rom so long as you can root. I guess some people are just to lazy/busy to figure it out themselves, so they wait for someone else to put the modifcations into a rom for them. My motto is if "if you want something done right, do it yourself".

Here are the instructions on connecting your Samsung Wave GT-S8500 phone to Kies.
1. Close Kies
2. Remove phone and USB from PC
3. Select Samsung Kies under Settings > Connectivity > USB > Samsung Kies
4. Press and hold menu button on the phone > select 'end all applications'
5. Connect phone to USB
6. Connect USB to PC (I am running Windows 7 64 Bit)
7. Windows will automatically install MTP driver and opens up its own window to manipulate the contents of the phone
8. Now start Kies --> it will now recognize the phone
Done!

Don't know if it's the 4.0 that have little dev progress or just you that haven't seen the news since quite a while ago... we have JB 4.1 and a 3.0 kernel is in the works.
Also to answer your question I think you seem to forget a little detail. We're only 2 (or more like 1 and a half) compared to the 5.0 where's a they're 3 or 4.
I know that and maybe I'm not remembering correctly but I clearly remember there was some problem with porting ics to the 4.0 while it arrived a year before on the 5.0 and it had nothing to do with people involved. But then again I might be wrong

Its only a tablet.
Camera will be working after official update
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1053 and read!!!!
There's several ROMs out right now. AOKP and CM9.
If you want the feel of ICS, those are great to flash and experiment!
On the other hand, if you're concern of the camera issue, you may flash Task14 which will enhance the tablet with a slight feel of ICS, yet keeping the camera, although it's still on it's 3.2 platform.

i mean common really , im not trying to be an asshole here but rather than posting this it would have been faster for him to just look around this fourm and all his questions would have been answered. thats why noobs keep getting flamed from everyone on here. they come in and ask either questions that have been asked over and over that have already been answered (solution: xda search or search google for something like this "galaxy tab wont boot XDA") or something that can easily be obtained by simply LOOKING in the dev/q&a areas. The dev's put so much time in to bring us this awesome stuff and when someone is simply too lazy to just search something out or do their own research they get offended and so do the other members who have been ACTIVELY posting/following in their threads. you remember that video you had to watch b4 you could become a member here??? well watch it again its very informative
http://youtu.be/JmvCpR45LKA
Granted its annoying when people fail to use search. But you know what is even MORE annoying? When people DO use search, and end up on a thread like this, where people just ***** at the OP for not using search themselves.
I wish everyone would stop and think about the fact that their replies aren't just for the OP, but are also for everyone else who SEARCHES and lands on a thread in the future.

"Google was late to the tablet game and its first effort, Honeycomb, was rushed and incomplete."
No wonder even Google refuses to open source honeycomb and asked oems and customers to move onto ICS.

Here we go again. Great question, I propose that in this thread tell us what ICS will not bring.
So, let's begin...
It will not bring world peace.

Agree. There's already a thousand threads about what's new with ICS (and OPs that didn't do their own research).
So here's my addition:
ICS will not get you laid.
ICS will not cool you off on a hot day.
I'm waiting ICS beacause it will bring native support to VPN connections with Group Authentication, that now is impossible to use with Honeycomb..

Well, to be honest, I haven't found any major, or noticeable, bugs on stock. Could you tell me some you have run into?
And no major fc issues either. Some of the apps indeed force close, but that is an app issue and is usually rectified with an update from play. No hc blame there.
Of course every new android version is (supposedly) better than the previous. Gingerbread was way better from froyo, it had more features, but the lack of those features in froyo doesn't make it buggy. Hope you understand what I mean.

ICS Will not convince your mother in law that S-Voice is NOT siri on android
ICS is never;
- gonna give you up
- gonna let you down
- gonna turn around and hurt you
ICS will never say "die"
ICS will never get you brownie points
I love this thread.

don't get me wrong. I brought a galaxy tab 10.1 on the day it was released in nyc, and am presently a happy owner of a tab 8.9
Just HC had a lot of bugs and fcs in its initial release, though the most current Touchwiz based on HC 3.2 is definately more stable. But of course, by now, I've blissfully moved on to aokp ICS custom rom, and naturally feel no urge to return to HC. I m sure when you upgrade to ICS after sammy releases the official version this month, you'll not want to return either.
ICS can never match Klondike Bars
ICS Will never get rid of chart stains in your undies

Only cuz its a way better OS.. Best Google's work so far and it's really awesome.. Now if you want to stay with hc no1 is forcing you to do so..
It's just a dumb question IMHO.. If you have a 4 cylinders engine Chevy and out of nowhere Chevy calls you and tells to you that they want to replace your old engine for a brand new 8 cylinders engine FOR FREE, will you stay with the old 4 cylinders (that works ok but some times need oil) or will you be HAPPY and go get your new engine??
Again it's up to you to stay with your old engine or go get the new 1.. But consider yourself a dork If you don't change because you are okay with the old.

ICS will not be televised.
