[Q] Can anyone solve my really odd camera problem? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay... seems like a minor issue but it's driving me nuts. I have no idea how long it's been an issue. I just found out today when I needed to take some photos in a quiet setting.
As long as my "Capture Tone" setting in my camera app is checked (allowing the shutter sound) the camera works fine. But when I uncheck it (to silence the shutter sound), the camera will not take a photo. Just in case, I tried in all resolution settings.
When I uncheck that setting and then go touch the "shutter" button to take a photo, it acts like it is trying to take the picture, then makes a strange click that I can actually *feel* in my phone, then it just goes back to the live viewfinder view as if it's ready to take a photo without having taken the photo I just attempted to take!
Then if I go check the "Capture Tone" setting, everything works fine! Any ideas how to resolve this or what may have caused this issue?

That does seem odd. If you're bootloader unlocked with CWM, maybe give the droid 3 camera a shot. The checkbox worked, and took a silent picture for me..

the camera settings in build.prop can be modified, I believe they're towards the bottom. There is a setting for the shutter tone there, I would mess with that. make a backup first.

I dont have this prob on Alien#4, I disabled shutter sound on day one and have taken at least a hundred pics since. Before Alien I had experienced the strange internal click vibration you spoke of, but not since.

YACT - Yet Another Camera Thread

Ok, so this is an issue I can't seem to find anyone else complaining about.
My physical camera button won't activate the camera flash.
Now I understand that If the camera is set to Continuous Shooting mode that it probably shouldn't flash - but I've turned that off and I cannot get it to flash unless I use the on screen button, which is difficult for me.
Anyone else having the issue?
My camera rarely flashes when using the camera button, the time it did, it was in Portrait setting instead of 'auto'. I don't want to hijack your thread, but this is a good place to ask... Why can you hold down the camera button to take a stream of photos in modes other than Auto (I understand not allowing it in HDR), but the other modes don't seem to make sense...

I was thinking about that last night when I was trying to get my flash to work and playing with settings. It seems like you should be able to take a burst of landscape photos.....or anything else except HDR, and possible some of the lower light combinations.
My physical shutter button activates my flash just fine. For continuous, it flashes on the first shot, but that's it. It will take continuous with the physical button also

[Q] Defective Camera?

whenever i take a picture, these lines are always visible. is this a defect or the camera just needs an update? likewise, the pictures are noisy. i tried working on the settings but to no avail.

I think it is just your device. Everything seems to be fine in my camera.
Try to take your phone back for a replacement.
Change the ISO settings in your camera app. Your ISO is probably too high. I had that problem today and I freaked out!
In a moment of inspiration it occurred to me to change the ISO and it worked. Try setting it to "auto".
have tried different camera settings. and sometimes the lines are not there and sometimes the lines are there. however, i noticed the lines are frequent when i use flash to take picture.

Camera App Freezes

The other day I was using my camera and trying out different effects when it just froze. The shutter/setting buttons were all there but the viewer was black and I couldn't click on anything. I couldn't even hit back to exit the app, only by hitting home. Even force closing the app/clearing cache and opening it back up didn't help - had to reboot. Then the same thing happened shortly after, but hasn't happened since.
Has this happened to anyone else?
weird. That kinda happened to me the other day. But i dont recall if I was playing with effects first, but screen was all just black (no, my hand wasn't in front of it lol) and couldn't push buttons or back. Had to hit Home. But, FCing it worked for me. Minor glitch. Much more minor than my general shutter lag and blurry pics. Need to go to a store to compare my hardware.

Yeah the fact that I was playing with effects might be coincidence. Luckily it hasn't happened again, but saying that I haven't been using the camera much.
But you might want to look into the shutter lag because mine takes pics super fast!

I haven't had that specific problem, but the "shutter" lag here also - very frustrating. Hold shutter release down, listen to the "burst" mode shoot what sounds like 15 - 20 photos, review and find 3.
It's maddening. Although I think it's a lighting situation... still. Don't make a shutter clicking sound if you aren't actually making a photo..

I'm with you there, I wouldn't say I have shutter lag, but a lot of the times it will make 2 clicks when I only take 1 photo, 3 clicks for 2 photos etc. Always seems to be one more shutter sound. Obviously it's not a lag issue like yours is, but it's clear that the phone just plays the continuous shutter sound when holding the button down, rather than the click sound corresponding with each picture taken. Can be annoying.

[Q] Anyone Else's Pics in Gallery Darker than What is Seen at the Time of Photo?

On stock TouchWiz...When taking photos, the enivronment I see on the phone screen at the time of the photo looks nice and bright, but viewing the actual photo in the Gallery makes the photo look a good bit darker (even if a use a flash). I've tried several environments (bright/dim) and I've also tried several settings on the phone (camera settings, screen settings, brightness, etc.), but I always see the same result. Is anyone else seeing this on their phones?
I noticed that too! Not sure what to do about it though.
After some experimenting, I think it's the phone's auto-dimmer kicking in after exiting the camera to view the photo. Try disabling automatic brightness control in your notification blind and see if that helps.
Tappin' and talkin' with Tapatalk.
I've tried that before and yes, disabling the auto-brightness does seem to help, but I'm not sure it fixes it entirely. Either way, it seems there is a problem with the Gallery and the auto-brightness setting, which sucks because I hate having to turn off auto-brightness just to look at my pictures (and not using auto-brightness kills the battery).

Questions about the camera

So I've had the phone for a couple of weeks an am loving the camera. However there are a few things I've not been able to figure out with regards to the camera, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction:
1: When in Auto mode or Manual mode, I can't seem to turn on OIS. The OIS icon is grayed out. Can I use OIS in these modes? If so, how do I turn it on? In what modes is OIS available?
2: Is there anyway of changing the default metering mode? Even on my old Galaxy S4 I could switch between Matrix metering, Center weighted and Spot metering.
3: Is there any way of taking bracketed shots?
4: Why when in manual mode do the various controls not rotate between landscape and portrait modes. When I'm holding the phone vertically the WB, MF, ISO etc.. controls are in landscape mode.
I do own Camera FV-5 and I know that solves some of these issues. Does anyone know if FV-5 will use OIS?
Any Insight is appreciated.
1. You might have issue with your phone. Click on auto, then settings wheel, when switching it takes between 1-3 seconds from gray to white.
Manual mode does not have OIS available.
2. Metering mode. Sorry, can't switch. I know, it sucks.
3. Bracketed shots, ?.
4. It has to do with the widened of the screen . They set the UI up like that. The settings and flash will rotate but not the others. Maybe update to LG's camera UI in future will bring that.
Nope, the OIS won't turn on.
Is this something I need to check with Verizon on?

1. OIS/Steadyshot option is available on Auto mode for rear camera (See attached). I think in manual mode it defaults to OIS, and SteadyShot in Manual Video Mode. (See Pic attached).
2. I was missing this feature as well, no different metering option unfortunately. The only thing I noticed that works is a spot metering using the FFC, you can touch a spot and the metering will be based on your spot of choice.
3. No Bracketed Shots in the default camera app as well, need to look into 3rd party apps. There's only burst mode, which is different, and even then it's only with the FFC.
4. THIS is my biggest pet peeves as well, such a bad UX design. You would think that they would take into account that people will use the phone in both orientation instead of just landscape. This problem doesn't just happen in camera mode unfortunately. I wished the 2nd screen icon will rotate as well when you put your phone in landscape mode because currently it's fixed into portrait.

1: I cleared data and cache data on the camera app and that seemed to fix it. I know have OIS again.
2&3 frustrating, but I guess that's why I have Camera FV-5.
4: My second screen icons all rotate to landscape and back to portrait. Weird that your's don't.

I tried Manual Camera app the other day, you can bump the FFC ISO up past the default setting on that one. I think I could bump it up to like ISO 12800, and yes it looks like **** lol. But it's an option.
Are you talking about the second screen within the camera app? In camera app, yes it rotates. Other than that, no they don't rotate. Like say when you're watching a video or doing something else in landscape mode, my second screen is fixed into portrait mode. So when a text or notification comes in, they don't roll the "correct" way.

My second screen rotates regardless of the app I'm in. You may want to do a factory reset and see if that fixes the issue. if not I'd go back to the store and do an exchange.
I've not heard of the manual camera app. What does it bring that the stock or Camera FV-5 don't?
