[Q] How to build and SMS Server with an Android Phone? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everybody,
I'm looking for a way to use my phone to send SMS mailing from my computer.
My idea was to use the 3G modem of my android device, connect my computer to it and fine a software to send SMS from my computer.
In a second time i would like to able to receive SMS to the computer.
Does anybody knows a way to do that?
Best Regards,
Richard Perez

Did you ever find a answer to this? Im searchingnfor something similar

Is this for more personal use like texting your friends from your computer or more like a business application to where you want to be able to send and recieve texts to your "server".
For personal use, I believe you could just use Google Voice. If thats not up your alley, you could try droidmessenger.com or DesktopSms.
For buisness application, google sms gateway. You can send texts out to carriers free sms gateways, I know there is software out there that takes use of sending texts this way.

Looking for an app which grabs emails and sends as sms and vise versa

Hi All,
after a pile of googling, I'm still trying to find an application which will send an sms based on an email and vise versa, so when the phone receives an e-mail it sends an sms, and when it receives an sms it sends an email.
Not sure if such an app exists, but i figure this is the best place to ask the question.
Thanks in advance for any help!!
JP.
Magicall
"Magicall" is an application which meets your requirements as u mentined
Not quite what I was looking for
Thanks for your reply. I've tried the software you mentioned above, but it doesn't provide the functionality I'm after.
Does anyone else know of any software which will take an email and sms it to a predefined number and also take an SMS and forward it to a predefined email address?
Thanks in advance.

[Q] push does not push?

hi,
i have an htc HD2 with the android energy rom. but it seems that all programs have to "ask" activly to the servers if they have something, while i thought android could handle all push notifications? for example, whatsapp, at first it worked well, but now i'm not directly getting messages. when i open whatsapp i smetimes get messages that are send 30 minutes ago, while the whole idea of whatsapp is that it can be used instead of sms, hust having my phone standby in my pocket must be enough to get directly, not even 1 miunute later, the messages others send to me, just like sms does. the same problem i have with my gmail application, he only syncs when i open it, while it has to be like sms, directly push it from the server to my phone, if i ask for it or not, just what the word push say, but no, i open the application, and messages of the day before come in... :S does someone knows how to solf this, or is there a way to check if my provider hi(kpn, dutch) blocks things?

[Q] SMS/MMS via internet for UK 3 network

I'm a UK Three customer using Omega 9.1 ROM (FW: XXBLG1 Modem:XXLFB CSC:H3GALE4).
I work a lot offshore, way out at sea so obviously no mobile connection whatsoever for weeks however we do have a small bandwidth internet connection on the ship.
There seems to masses of apps for being able to receive and send SMS messages via the internet but many seem country specific. I don't want anything too fancy just the ability to use text messages (and preferably free???). Ideally being able to retrieve my voice messages would be awesome as normally when I get home from 4 weeks at sea I have loads and loads of voice messages (I should change my answerphone message before I leave to "Please don't leave a message as I am at sea" but I always forget)
Can anyone recommend a good way of doing this please? I understand that HandcentSMS may have this feature but their website made it look a bit overkill for my needs.
Thanks in advance
Could possibly suggest you using Whatsapp, its free from the Google Play Store and you can send messages, pictures, videos and even recorded voices messages to other whatsapp users completely free over an internet connection.
It would mean that the people who want to contact you would also need to have the Whatsapp app on there phone but it can be downloaded on Apple devices, Blackberry, Android and on newer nokia devices aswell.
I understand this may not be a perfect solution and maybe some of the people you want to contact cant have Whatsapp on there phone but it could really help with those who can.
Hope this helps
Tnanks for that. Certainly a part way solution and I guess the messages I am referring to involve close colleagues, friends and family so I'll see if we can try this route as a group.
Out of interest someone who I worked with mentioned Google Talk but as far as I have read/searched this is just a "chat/instant message" application. Surely it doesn't access my SMS messages? As far as I assume, SMS messages go through my network provider(??). The issue I really want to surmount is just to be able to receive my SMS messages when I am at sea for weeks on end. It really is frustrating getting to within sight of land (normally Aberdeen) and as soon as I get mobile reception a million and one messages start pinging in some of which were sent weeks ago.
Check out textplus. May be worth a look.

[Q] Read my email .. Is there an app for that?

Hi there,
I do a lot of driving and my phone is connected via Bluetooth in the car. I love the fact that the OS will read text messages over my car speakers and allow me to respond all hands free when a new message comes across. I've been looking for something similar in the marketplace for email but can't find anything. Is anyone aware of an application that will read your email aloud when your phone receives it?
Thanks.
I don't think the current API's will allow access to a user's email, so the only way this would be possible is if the app itself connected to your email. I haven't seen anything that does that.

[Q] sms from gmail

Hey all. Sorry if this was already been asked before but I couldn't find it anywhere. Not even on google search. It seems like no one ever tried it or something.
Well, my question is, is there a way to send and receive Gmail SMS on phone? There's no way to forward it and it doesn't show up on Gtalk either. I'm asking this because it has international SMS feature that has very low cost for other countries to reply.
Does anyone know any app that can forward this feature from Gmail chat to phone? Even tho my phone support flash and java, it . Is there a work around?
Thank you,
