CWM Update.zip help? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
When creating an update.zip do I need to include the update-binary?
- If i do, should I use one from another rom thats proven?
- If not, how do I go about getting/creating one?
Secondly, what compression should I be using when making my zip's? (I'm using winrar and win 7 x64 if it makes a difference)
Sorry but I'm asking because Ive been trying to use the android kitchen running under cygwin but the roms it creates just don't install. They all come up with status 0 error.
Any other words of wisdom?

USE no compression and grab the update binary from another roms zip.

In winrar is that 'store'.
I have got one to install that was cooked using cygwin with the kitchen. Well it said it had installed but it doesn't boot :/

thanks, this is were i first looked. it all seems to be for windows. will look again
So I tried and tried and tried again to get superoneclick to recognise my phone last night and failed. It hung after starting ADB connection. Would not continue no matter what I tried. Anyone encountered this problem or even tried superoneclick using Ubuntu?
I have looked for a script to run to achieve root but can't find one, as I can use ADB manually. Very frustrating.
Can't even update firmware with Sammy software cos it needs windows

Essential question

Hi
I downloaded a custom rom based on ICS and unzip the file then I add some app.apk to data/app and rezip it.
I tried to run zip in recovery but coudn't.
My question is that, why it didn't work??
Originally is it possible to add app.apk to same folder of a custom rom and then install the rom with my favorite apps??
Thanks for answering me.

You can use 7zip "free download" to modify roms. It allows you to edit the rom without extracting it. Download the program and read the tutorial. Basically when you extract a rom you change the file association and it needs to be resigned. Also when you swap out and or add apps, files, etc you have to edit the update script to reflect the changes. You can google to find out more. This is just my understanding, hope it helps.

If u unzip the file, it will lost it signed properties (something like that) which cause the file not useable. If u need to add or remove apk, just use winrar or 7z and open the file without unzipping it.

Upgrade from CM7 to CM9

Hi,
My daughter has the HP touchpad, I've already loaded CM7 using moboot method so she keeps webos. I can see now that many stable versions of CM9 exist and want to upgrade to one of the many ROMs available. Can I do this straight from clockwork mod or do I need to flash additional zip files in order for it to work properly. I have searched lots of forums and some are suggesting to use acme installer 2 but I have titanium backup so cannot see the point in this method. Any help is much appreciated.

Err what's the question .
Q:can I upgrade to CM9 from CM7 through clockwork recovery?
A:don't remember where I saw it but I do remember that it could not flash properly and result in bugs....
So its best to do a clean install using ur PC and following this

Sent from my cm_tenderloin using xda app-developers app
Look for a video from reverend kyle on youtube, its a pretty good explanation and tells you the files you need. The CM9 build will be outdated in the video so just use the latest gapps and CM9 build. Everything else will be the same. Basically you'll need to use you computer and ACMEInstaller2. If you ever want to install CM10 you'll want to use ACMEInstaller3.
Many thanks for the responses, I will see how I get on.
Sent from my A500 using xda app-developers app
Might want to consider what was posted above, skip cm9, use acme uninstaller to start clean, then acmeinstaller3 and put one of the jellybean builds on.
JB takes up more system space, which acmeinstaller3 provides

[Q] Need help flashing kernel for htc amaze 4g

Hello, I have an HTC Amaze 4g running stock rom and on ics. I am trying to flash the faux kernel but when I try to flash it using 4EXT it starts the process then says
(Status 7)
Installation Aborted.
I dont know why it wont flash and have looked for help everywhere but they all say the same thing. Can someone help me? Also after I flashed the kernel the first time, my wifi stopped working does that have anything to do with it?
First thing to check is, are you S-ON? If so, is smart flash enabled?

I am s-off currently, and smart flash is enabled
Hmmm... I would try re downloading the kernel and seeing if it could have been a bad one before. Other than that someone more knowledgeable will have to help you. Sorry I wasn't more help.

I think I figured out the problem, when I redownloaded the ics kernel from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359951
not all the files where being downloaded to my computer, I am missing the flash.bat file and I think others. Do you know where else I can find this ics kernel with all the files.

Here you go.

Uninstall any download managers and download accelerators you may have and try downloading it again. Also try using a different browser such as Firefox or Google Chrome

i don't think you need smart flash if your phone is s-off.. smart flash is for flashing the kernel without s-off.. disable smart flash and try again

[Q] Aroma to a normal Install

Hi im using a note 2 phone and im going to dual boot it using devil kernel but it doesn't support aroma installer so i wonder if there was a way to convert the aroma rom (Resurrection Remix PitchBlack EDT JB V1.0.1) to a normal installer.
Yep, take out all the aroma parts and edit the updater-script, (make sure all matches) then change update-binary-installer to just update-binary, remove the old one, zip up, sign, flash

Thank you for the fast answer but is this the simplest way. can you plz do a step by step instruction:angel:
Simplest way....
OK
Unzip the ROM
Take out aroma config and update-binary
Change update-binary-installer to just update binary
Edit out the parts of the updater-script that are unneeded then rezip, sign (or toggle off SIG check in recovery)
Then flash
If you don't know what to edit in updater-script link a copy here and I'll do it for you tonight when I'm near a pc

You can try, but if using windows notepad it doesn't like to format properly, shouldn't be a .txt file

Exactly, just select all, go to edit, eol conversion, Unix
Then when you save don't do it as .txt but rather all formats (the very first option under type)
