ROM building tips

Hai everyone,
I would like to go and build a rom myself.
I've been reading the forum a lot, but still have no clue where to start.
I want to make a dutch rom based on the official HTC WM6.1 rom.
I would like to recieve some tips and tric on how to start making a rom.
I know how to dump a rom and how to reconstruct it.
Now i want to know what tools and programs i can use to modify the rom.
For example how to remove programs and how to add them..
So i able to make a start and go my way from there.
Needless to say i will release the rom on the forum as a return of favor
Hope someone will give me some tips on how to start.
哈哈.看不懂.你想做说什么啊?

Cooking Help

I was thinking of teaching myself how to cook WP7 for Leo. Ive looked through the HD2 section and the WP7 section. I got myself the kitchen and some basic instuructions, but i have a few questions.
1) where are the langugage files and how can i add/delete language abilities?
2) I can make the default.hvm file and user.hvm file, but how do i open them to edit things?
3) If i screw up cooking my ROM and test it on my HD2, will it brick the phone?
I really dont want to release something, that doesnt work, so if anyone could help me, that would be great!

Just for starters, have a look at Yuki's Great tut on cooking WP7, which i believe you already have.
now the questions,
1) i dont know much about this, but usually on x86 platform microsoft has ttf fonts for languages which are linked to system language preference using registry database.
2) they are registry hives, use any registry hive editor from google (works for me)
3) Nope, HSPL protects user from bad flashes in bootloader, MAGLDR protects HSPL by doing flash work in userspace. so if you flash a bad image, power goes off during flash using MAGLDR and DWI, only the data on NAND will be corrupt, you can still boot into HSPL bootloader and MAGLDR and next time you flash a good image, that will boot as well. (you will have to format/clean the partitions ofc if using Android)
Although this is a dev section its not for asking questions, do that in the Q&A forum.
The only posts here should be dev releases/projects/reference etc.
What do you think this section would look like if everybody was allowed to just post questions?? Thats the whole reason the Q&A forums were created in first place.
sorry TheATHEiST, my bad. ill remember that from now on.
@Rick_1995. Thanks for that! should get me started!

The .hvm files are actually editable in any text editor, as I found out. Just don't forget to convert them back to .hv files like I did.

how i can support arabic language in Complete FroYo Bundle** FRX07.1

It's been asked before, this is the answer. However, this is for native Android devices, and I'm not sure anyone figured out how to get it working on our port. I never did figure it out, but I'm far from an expert on this stuff.
Here's how it worked for me: (Originally provided here)
1 - Download the "libskia.rar" attached to this post.
2 - You will need the latest version of a program called "Root Explorer" (tested with 2.17.1). Download and install it on your device, and don't forget to give it superuser permissions when you run it for the first time.
3 - Extract the "libskia.so" file from the package, and copy it to the "system/lib" folder on your device using Root Explorer. Use the "mount r/w" button to give the program permission to overwrite the file.
4 - Android should restart itself automatically when you copy the file. If it doesn't, restart Android manually. Your device now shows Arabic letters correctly.
The only problem with this method is that it doesn't solve the RTL text direction problem, but it is indeed a very acceptable solution that enables you to use Android for daily use.
Try it and tell us what happens. It worked for me using FRX07.1.
Oh, and arrrghhh, thank you for your devotion and efforts to bring Android to the Tilt2. Why don't you mention this method in the FAQ so that it could be found more easily by FRX07 users? And best of luck with the GBX01 effort!

np, and glad someone made an easy guide.
Can you make one change? Can you actually attach the files instead of linking to another site? Thanks.
I will consider adding it to the FAQ, but honestly this question has only been asked maybe 2-3x in the 2 years I've been involved in this project... not a very 'frequently' asked question is my point .
Sorry for reviving a dead thread but I just wanted to know is XDAndroid deodexed or odexed, I have searched and at a guess I would say it is deodexed but I haven't found anything that gives me certainty so if anyone could answer I would be grateful.
Thanks in advanced
Just before anyone says what does this have to do with Arabic I have found this site (http://blog.devasque.com/) that seems to have a method that works across the board so I just wanted to give it a try. I will post my results
Also the method posted above is ok but it seemed to mess up my English documents.

It's AOSP... so I guess odexed? I honestly have no clue.
Arrrghhh, as you weren’t sure I thought I’d give it a go any way and after a lot of testing I found that it works so I’m guessing the rom is deodexed.
My findings, the latest patch to work on both the GB0C and FRX07.1 builds is 0.789 anything after that seems to cause either boot loops or freezes.
Also it seems to work very well with both the direction being correct and the letter displaying correctly joined.
So if anyone wants Arabic this seems like a good option, all you have to do is:
Download the 0.789 patch from http://blog.devasque.com/how-to-apply-patch/ and extract it.
Then copy the framework.jar file from the system/framework folder on your phone to the framework folder in the patch folder, after that run command.exe and follow the instructions. After it finishes you will find a new framework.jar in the generated folder just replace your old file with the new one and reboot and hopefully you should see all the Arabic and like fonts displayed correctly.
There are instructions on the site but they are for the newest patches, the instructions I have posted are from what I did with this older version they are very similar just some minor folder name changes and less files to be converted.
Just like to say all the credit goes to Madmack and the people that have worked with him.
Cool, I'm sure that will help some people

custom rom!!!

hello to everyone... is there any forum for noobies to ask for how to develop a custom ROM? I have download all the packages (SDK, ECLIPSE, JAVA, thats all i think) and i want to help u to improve or make my own custom ROM i dont know if this is the wright place to ask thank u for your time i have X10mini and i try every ROM in here and kernels
i try to google it or search in here but i havent linux pc or ubuntu so i will very thankfull if there is any guide for windows platform step by step which use eclipse and SDK
If you have no knowledge, you should forget about it. If you want to build from source you need to know how linux work and how to debug the most common errors. It's really hard to develop something original right now.
thank u for the reply... well... im not such interesting to built my rom as to improve an existing rom to working correctly... i try the sdk and eclipse but i dont unterstand many things maybe because im new in town... now im looking on cygwin and kitchen ... it seems more familiar and easy but is it for sony ericsson for example or im losing time... thank u for your time

[Q] [HELP]porting other rom's systemui/framework-res to own rom

hey guys I really want to know this, is it possible to port other rom's(compatible with my phone) systemui&framework-res to the current rom I'm using?
There's a particular rom that I really like the theme(framework&syatemui). But that rom is so unstable I just can't afford to use it everytime. So i think that maybe I could just port that rom's theme to my phone? But I dont have any idea how to.
Please guys I really want to know this thing. I'll be grateful if someone could help me with this problem.
somebody?
Get a decent compare software (I recommend Beyond Compare) and merge res folders in the decompiled apps.
Porting the UI that way requires lots of time, but is possible.
If you want to port smali stuff, procedure will be harder, I cant tell you how this works tho, as I havent managed to do it myself.
