VTL Launcher on Viewpad 7? - Viewsonic ViewPad 7 & Variants

I wondered if anybody tried "VTL Launcher" on a Viewpad 7 so far?
Mine is in for repair currently and Android Market shows it as "Non compatible" (which doesn't mean it's really not compatible *gg*)

yes i am searching for that too

TY, astuermer - nice find & catching it to share with all, downloaded it from your link, prep my VPAD7 first (TB backup & CWM backup, just in case) - reboot and used Astro File Manager to install the apk file. Turn off (using "Easy Boot" - it's a neat, cute one click to shut down, reboot, boot into recovery) and restart, bing bing - VTL came up as option, no error messages or warnings about imcompatibility at all. It's very similar to ADW 1.3.6 standalone (that I'm using instead of stock laucher) but with more features, options & tweaks - like it very much ! Not a fan of Launcher Pro, so .... this is cool.
This cute Vpad7 with the tweaks is going to stand out a tiny notch more, great.
Postscript edit/comment - I managed to flash TJ_Style's FM6 custom, non-OC ROM using my own saved boot.img and got it running. Please see this link for screenshots - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093440&page=10 However, Easy Boot no longer worked ....

New Dell Stage UI...

Anyone able to link or post a .apk for the latest Dell Stage UI launcher? I upgraded to 245, but it still has the old launcher. I'd really like to play with the newer one.
Thanks in advance for any help!

This should be intersting. I think the new Stage launcher is more than one apk. I know if you are using the latest Streakdroid mod you can load it. It will be cool if it is available for you
yea that would be awesome if someone could plz post up the new dell stage apk"s ............and or watever files we might need
New Stage UI .apk's can be found in StreakDroid 1.9.0 .zip file.
latest stage here
i pulled out from rom 345 ,lets see if it works
http://hotfile.com/dl/114223455/f830bb5/new_stage.rar.html
Thanks for the file..
thank you very much............. now lets see if they run.................................or better yet what would be the best way to replace the old stage? I'm on a rooted at&t 340 o.s with side loading enabled.....any suggestions or recommendations greatly appreciated..........(maybe root explorer or titanium backup)
your results may vary..
I installed these on my 347 streak, all seems to work ok simply installing over the existing stage versions (only had a problem with email, installed ok, but the widget will not show emails, if you tap on it it takes you to the configured account but only displays "tap here to setup an account" message while in home screen) also i could not get it to actually use the silent ringtone, again it accepts it but still makes the notification sound. anyway I like the newer versions of the stage ui. (also, the fb widget may not actually be updating the content shown on the home screen)
Cheers
BR
thanks ,i'll try it
Application not installed .............i really dont want to uninstall original stage launcher for fear of complications
Not installed
Hi, I have the O2 UK latest version, not sure which build that is but I was unable to install any of the files. Error message says not installed.
I am rooted too so that should not be the problem.
Do I need a custom rom or a later one to be able to install these?
Thanks for the upload by the way. I *STILL* don't have the guts to jump and update to Steve's rom!
I got it working on my Streak.
I flashed 345, got my streak setup how I wanted it, and did a full backup.
then...
I flashed DJ_Steve's 1.9 ROM, with the option for the dell stage UI in the install.txt,
let it boot up and got it working.
I then reflashed the Dell 309 Recovery ROM, and re-flashed 345, and did a restore from my backup. Now I have the new stage UI. It's pretty slick.
I use it as my main, but I also have Zeam installed. If you default to the stage UI, you can set the fist slot in the menu, you can add the Zeam launcher. This way, I can switch UI's whenever I want.
It's really pretty slick the way I have it setup now.
Thanks to DJ_Steve (again)...

You need to use super manager app to move the apps to /system/app from data/app and it works great.

[Q] can't find certain apps in marketplace

I installed vegantab and followed the directions to get the full marketplace on my gtab. However when i search for certain app they do not show up. At first i just thought they were apps that weren't compatible with android tablets but this does not seem to be the case. A couple of the apps are facebook and twitdroid. I know facebook came preinstalled on tap n tap so it should not be a compatability issue. Can someone please tell me what may be causing this?
Thanks in advance
Have you tried this post? It worked for me when I thought I had the full market.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
This happened to me too. Even after I did the market fix as described in the ROM install thread. The previous poster has pointed you in the right direction, but more specifically these are the exact steps that fixed me. I take no credit for this other than finding it and passing it along.
Step 4.
Go into Settings - Applications - Manage Applications - Market - Clear CACHE - Force Stop
(For TnT/TnT Lite... Settings - Applications - System Applications)
Step 5.
Press back once - Google Services Framework - Clear DATA - Force Stop
Step 6.
Go back to your home screen and open up the market. You should get an error. If not, redo steps 4 and 5 until you do.
Step 7.
Reboot your device. After it starts back up let it sit for a minute or two to let things in the operating system normalize. Open the Market. Reboot your device.
Step 8.
Open the market again and enjoy. You should now have Flash and the Android Market.
I've always thought that "Full Market" didn't mean everything available in the market, but everything that the market believes it can install on your device. I've always double-checked by going to the web market and trying to "push" the app to my device to see if it is compatible.
Or is there something on the device that identifies itself on the market as to what it can have installed?
I wish there was a tablet market separate from phones. It would make things much easier.

but then you wouldn't be able to see the phone apps that work well on tablets. I would assume that most widgets are cross compatible. Even when going to iTunes from an iPad, they have the 'iphone apps available for you.
in the infancy of android tablets, if we could ONLY see tablet only apps, we'd all be limited to about 50-100 apps, most of which not all of us would have a purpose for.
I'm having a similar problem, even after following the steps outlined in the Clockwork/ROM thread. Not sure if it varies with the rom as I was able to get Zeam Launcher with the Adam rom, but not with TNT lite.
Following along to see if there are other suggestions...
So I had followed the steps when I originally flashed Vegan 5.1.1 and the Market didn't show up Apps, like Facebook for example.
For the heck of it I tried it again just now, after I've been using my tablet for a while, and now the Market works fully! I still can't see tablet Apps like the CNN one, but now I have access to lots of Apps I didn't before.
Another resource you could check would be 4shared.com. Search for cnn.apk or just .apk and you will see lots of other apps, not sure if they will all work, but its worth a shot.
FWIW... I ran the steps again last night (for the second time since flashing TNT lite) and got access to more apps. I was able to find zeam, but I still can't find ADW. Might try it again tonight just to see what happens.
Seems odd, but that's been my experience so far.

Is there any setting that can be changed without switching ROMs that will fool the market into thinking the device is compatible with more applications?

If you have Root Explorer you can alter your build.prop file to set your device as olympus and that gives you a full market, or at least the fullest I've seen. The following apps show up with this change:
firefox, adw, facebook, cnn, zeam, launcher pro, dolphin hd, flash 10.2, samurai vengeance, etc.
This has worked on Vegan 5.1.1, TNT Lite 4.4, G-Harmony 2.3.3, CM7, & Calkulin's v1.1 for me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1020130
I used astro file manager to change that file and then reapply the market fix. Still no apps like google docs on the market. Would this be an immediate fix or will it take some time for the market to register the change?
nvm: astro didnt actually save the modified file after editing it
Using root explorer now i guess the correct procedures would be
1) change the mount to r/w from r/o
2) modify the permissions of the build.prop to allow write access
3) modify build.prop
4) restore original permisions
5) change mount back to r/o from r/w
6) rerun market fix
Am i missing anything?
Read through the linked thread a bit more and seems that is all that is needed. Thanks for the point in the right direction.
This is what I do. Using Root Explorer I change the mount from R/W to R/O then alter the build.prop from Vega to olympus on that one line & then switch back to R/W. I don't change permissions. Then I go to settings>applications>market to clear market cache & then force stop. Next I go to settings>applications>google services framework to clear data & then force stop. Reboot. Then have full market. Always works for me.

[ROOT][BN1.2-FROYO] MiniRooterV2 for Stock Froyo 1.2 + Stock/OC Kernel

CREDITS TO GabrialDestruir,et al (MN 4.5.6) & Dalingrin (OC kernel)
* All warnings implied and applies.. your Nookie might turn into a Cookie... so use at your own risk!
* I'm NOT a DEV nor is this something special, so get over it
This CWR flashable kernel is ONLY for STOCK Barnes and Noble's Froyo 1.2 update. MiniRooter V2 is based upon GabrialDestruir's MN 4.5.6 & Dalingrin OC kernel for stock Froyo 1.2 release 5/13.
Why should I jump on this bandwagon??
MiniRooter will make you 35% happier... j/k it might make you sadder. Ok, maybe not, but it will save you some headaches. It was made for my own selfish use, but I decided it was time to share.
It is NOT for people who wants FULL Android tablet functionality! Go install CM7, Nookie Froyo, or use the ManualRooter.
The purpose of Mini Rooter is to allow stock BN 1.2 users access to SU, overclock, install third party apps (sideload), and install apps from Amazon app market. It is intended to mainly add and NOT modify any essential NOOK files, thus keeping the BN Nook experience as functional as possible for its intended purpose. However, you can really make it bi-polar and install other stuff too if you want. For a GREAT & free exchange email client w/calendar, find MoxierMail from the Amazon appstore. It is awesome.
The main reason for not modding file systems and installing the google market is to avoid problems I ran into with the MN 4.5.6 install, ie. touch page flips of children's book, BN store not working on purchases, instore access, and other headaches.
NO install issues with Angry Birds from the Amazon app store. When installing, choose "Package Installer"
Essentially, this mod is for newbies and/or tree-hugging hippies and minimalists with a lust for power and a thirst for frozen lemonade. mmm.. frozen lemonade.
What it does?
* Installs SU & busybox (rooting)
* Replaces stock kernel with Dalingrin's OC Kernel (up to 1.2ghz!!)
* Installs these apps:
adbwireless
Amazon Appstore
Button Savior
Calculator
SetCPU - you should donate (its also on the android market)
TouchRecalibrate
Zeam
Nook Color Tools - change settings, install 3rd party apps
Rom Manager - CWR & backups
Youtube - for learning how to dougie
Pick a Flavor:
MiniRooterV2-BN1.2-OC
MiniRooterV2-BN1.2-OC-dualboot
*Added 5/17
Flash these files after the previous if your girlfriend/sister/wife keeps nagging you this Nook Color is too fast, and you want to put an end to that.
Stock Kernel - BN 1.2 - Froyo
Stock Kernel - BN 1.2 - Froyo - Dual Boot
* These should work for other practical applications as well, so feel free to snag them just in case.
Devs - please let me know if you wish me to remove any/all of your work that have been included in this release. Thank you for your hard work and dedication, which inspires me to learn and contribute to this community.
Mods - if this is not acceptable, please move it/delete/or throw a fit.

1. Go into Nook Color Utils - uncheck and then recheck "Allow Non-Market Apps"
2. Button Savior needs Super User permission, so make sure you press "Allow" when the pirate greets you.. in some cases it will not work since the stock BN codes has set the 'n' button to be "back" in fullscreen apps. In cases where there's a "back" button on the taskbar, that will also take priority from button savior.
Great work! Exactly what I was looking for. Only a few questions:
Do side-loaded apps appear in the APPS menu or do I have to use Zeam to access them?
Is it possible to replace Dalingrin's kernel with stock afterward?
Thanks

Use Zeam for sideloaded apps to show, download AppHome if you want to use the 'n' button to default to Zeam and still return to stock Home.
Just flash a stock kernel over it if you don't want to OC... or just not do anything to setCPU.
Btw: GOOOO THUNNDDERRR!!! Wooohoo... Durantula!!!
Something told me to look at XDA one more time before getting back to work. This is awesome, thanks.
Question
Sorry if this is a noob question, but how do I boot from this? I just got a replacement Nook Color that came pre-loaded with 1.2 and I can't seem to nooter it for the life of me!! I've downloaded this and copied it to an SD card, but it doesn't boot. I can't get it to boot from a Clockwork Recovery SD card either. Any help would be appreciated!!

First of all, you have to be able to get into Clockword Recovery. If you can boot into CWR from and SD card, all you have to do is choose "install from zip", choose the file from the OP, yes, and flash it. That should do the trick. It's not a "bootable" file by any means. If you still have problems, keep reading and try different methods. It's hard to give you advice since I don't know your level of knowledge.

How about using [ADV][DEV][CWM]Copy Nook Stock to SDcard Image[5/9] thread to move your image to SDcard.
Keep whatever we want in emmc, and boot this from the SDcard.
I currently have phiremod v6.2 in emmc, with Dal's beta 3.1 32 kernel on verygreens SDcard. Going to try installing [UPDATE ZIP] Stock 1.2 update.zip flashable from CWM, your ROM, and then using rack's [ADV][DEV][CWM]Copy Nook Stock to SDcard Image[5/9] thread to move your image to SDcard to move it to another SDcard.
From CWM will do nandroid backup before and will restore after I complete the above procedure. When I boot phiremod v6.2 from emmc, I have a 16GB data/video/music SDcard in my nookcolor.

If I wanted couple of the gapps, say gmail and google voice could I just use my side loaded Titanium Backup to restore them from my CM7 data disk that contains them?
In MN what gapps are they using? Could I add them here later if I wanted to? I guess that defeats the purpose of this ROM.
Is there an alternative to gmail that anyone would recommend? I use google voice in CM7 for texting, how about an alternative for google voice?

I don't have my NC with me (at work right now) to verify the S/N, but I was able to root my previous NC (very seasoned with rooting many other android devices) with no problems. I'm beginning to think that I may have a "faulty" one, but I don't know how I can get it swapped again within the warranty. I did notice ONE dead pixel, but I doubt they'll swap it out for that! This thing is virtually useless to me without being able to root it!!!

You could try installing gapps and google voice and see if it works. It might not without modifying system files, and that's something this release tries to avoid. You don't need an alternative to gmail since the included BN email app is a multi-email client (gmail, yahoo, etc) but doesn't include exchange (Moxier Mail is a great alternative).

That's nice.. I only had to format/reinstall 23523434x to find out after MN, the BN store doesn't even load, give me these weird errors and check barnesandnoble.com blah blah. I then became a hippy and did it my way. And sometimes, less is more... even in version numbers of apps (which doesn't add anything to the functionality except a new version number).
@ Zephyr757 - hope you didn't get a lemon. I thought you just copied the zip file to the uSD and tried to boot that.

[Q] Nook Tablet 1.4.2 .apk issue

I have rooted with no problem, but now I have 3 questions.
1) I can't get any .apk files to load. I get an error saying "This NOOK cannot read this file..."
2) in NT Settings, I can't get the unknown sources box to stay checked

Thanks for any help!
I believe sideloading apks was blocked in 1.4.1.

That sucks! What about putting android market apps on the main screen of the NT?
There is a Nook Color app in the Android Market that does exactly that.

Most of this stuff is explained elsewhere in the forums . . . I know everybody says that, but believe me, it's true!
To get you started - - you can sideload apps on any rooted Nook:
(1) Get the NT Hidden Settings app (which you have)
(2) Goto "Hacks" - - tap "Unknown Sources Hack" Hit "Back"
(3) Goto "Application Settings" - - toggle "unknown sources"
(4) reboot the Nook
(5) Check in "NT Hidden Settings" . . "Applications Settings" . . to see if "Unknown Sources" is still checked. If not, repeat the steps above.
It's not unusual for people to have to do this 2 or 3 times to get the hack to "stick". Some people swear by toggling each setting on and off a couple times before rebooting. I know it's a PIA, but as far as I know everybody eventually get's it to 'stick' after a number of repeats.
Good news is, once you get Unknown Sources to stick, you won't have to mess with it again unless your restore to stock & re-root.
The "Nook Color Applications" app works well on the Nook Tablet, as noted above. You might also want to look at Go Launcher or ADW Launcher - they give you a new desktop with multiple home screens and other features, but still let you use the stock book reader, Netflix, etc. While some people here are using CM7 or CM9, a lot of people have really tricked-out the stock NT ROM with a 3rd-party launcher. I run mine like that, and I've actually liked it better than CM7.
But I'll switch to CM9 immediately once it's a bit more stable. ;-)
Best of luck!
awesome! I will try tonight. Right now, my two year old wont let me play with "his" nook. lol
Thanks, this forum is the best!
Hey there,
I've been having a similar problem. I recently rooted (using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529553 method), and have been able to access the market and download apps that way, but I'm unable to sideload them. When I try to open any app it says "Unable to install. This application was not able to install onto your device. Please "Archive" and then "Unarchive" the application to try again." I have an SD card inserted, and this error comes up with the Amazon market, and the HomeCatcher app. My unknown sources box is checked though! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I believe veronica is currently recommending the "new" beta ( internal only for now ) made by CelticWebSolutions.

If you want to have Google play installed the easiest process to do now is to make a boot able cm SD card. CM10+ is the most recent so I recommend using it. There are also SDC versions of cm7 and 9. These don't affect your internal storage at all so the level of caution for bricking is low.
If you want to look into these SDC ROMs head over to the iamafanof site. There are links to the ROms and further instructions on how to create the cards.

Kindle Fire HDX stuck on language selection after factory reset

UPDATE: So since I am able to navigate through the settings, I did some digging around, and it seems that the Amazon Launcher isn't running (that maybe why the nav bar was missing). Is there any way I could try to open it through ADB? I tried installing another Launcher, it's installed however there's no way I can open it.
So my Kindle Fire HDX was performing not too well so I then did a factory reset, after it rebooted it would have the language selection screen, after I select English it then takes !e to the screen where I need connect to wifi. After I connected to my network, I can't go any further, I can only navigate through the settings app instead of completing the setup. The home, back, and search buttons are missing. Is there anything I can do to fix it? Any help is appreciated!

You are correct. Unfortunately, it's a tough nut to crack as the home button is mapped exclusively to the crippled stock launcher. You can sideload an alternative launcher but once you hit 'home' the loop usually resumes. Try using 'adb install' to sideload Nova. It will temporarly become the default launcher. Attempt to set the language and perform other initilization tasks while staying away form the 'home' button. You'll probably have to repeat the process several times as home is often the only way to exit various settings paths. Post back your findings. Worse case you may have to consider installing Safestrap and a custom rom to regain control of your device.
Which device (7" or 8.9") and version of FireOS?
So I was able to go to the settings and click Applications - Special Offers - and then click on the orange internet link, and then download and install king root, safestrap v4, and then download, and flash the Fire Nexus ROM.

Excellent! Clearly a better place to be than struggling with FireOS's wonky launcher and permission issues.
Just in case you didn't note a few Safestrap v4 best practices:
- never perform a 'factory reset' from the stock recovery menu with SS installed; device will brick with little chance for recovery
- roms should only be installed (flashed) to the stock slot replacing the previous contents; secondary slots do not work well with Safestrap v4
- important: always retain a flashable rom (Nexus zip) in an accessible folder on the device for emergency recovery as there is no way to grab this file or any other if you can only boot into Safestrap (no native adb support)

Oh okay, I'll need to put the zip back on my tablet, just for emergencies like you said. I actually don't plan on installing any other roms at the moment. One thing that I'll miss is that I can't buy anymore kindle exclusive games (good thing I backed up the apks for ones I already bought with APK Extractor).

Might still be able to via official Amazon Underground app (Google for proper link).

Yeah I already checked, I'm glad I extracted those apks the day I bought those games. Oh yeah if you still have a FireOS tablet I recommend you should buy Til Mornings Light, Tales From Deep Space, and Lili: Path of Geos.
