Amazon App Store in the UK - Vega Themes and Apps

Following a hint from a friend in Australia, he had found that the Amazon App Store had started to work over there and I have now got it to work on my Desire HD in the UK. Haven't tried on the Vega yet as that is at home and I am at work. Pricing is still in USD, but I could get the free downloads with no problem.
You get the apk by clicking https://www.amazon.com/app-email from your Android device. You need a live Amazon account, but my UK login credentials seem to work fine.

On my Vega in the uk

It was confirmed that there seems to be a gradual roll-out by TechRadar today. Not all accounts seem to be able to do it though. I am wondering if it is something to do with Kindle which appears to register my UK account on the Amazon.com web site.

Same here :-(

OK, that was clearly a momentary aberration on the part of Amazon as after a couple of days, access seems to have been revoked again.
Sorry to have got any hopes up. Hopefully, it was a test run to a full roll-out in the near future.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one
Hopefully it'll work... I wonder how fast or slowly they'll roll out... I work in software and we never release on friday in case things go wrong!
Well ever if it isn't released Friday in the UK i'm sure you can update via odin or CWM once a copy becomes available on here.

Google Play store -Nexus purchase

I'll keep this really short
https://play.google.com/store/devices/details/Nexus_7_8GB?id=nexus_7_8gb&hl=en
Im from India and clicking on the above link gives the error
"Sorry! Devices on Google Play is not available in your country yet.
We're working to bring devices to more countries as quickly as possible.
Please check back again soon."
As expected since im from India
The Nexus 4 has launched and will bew going on sale for $350 for the Unlocked 16GB version of the phone
What i intend on doing is order the phone off the Play Store for my Dad who is based in US so that he can then ship it to India
He is always busy at work so is there any work around on how i can make that link useable in India to the order it
Proxy maybe ?
Oh and payment for Device can be done without a Paypal ? As my dad should have a Credit card
Thanks for the help

I don't think you could purchase it from India, maybe I'm wrong too. Same like even if you use Market Unlocker for getting access to Music, Movies, Magazines etc. its still unusable if you are outside US. About using proxy, I'm not sure, maybe have to use IP changer too.
I just need some way to order the device from India
Any User from the US can tell me about the payment steps ?Just requires me to have a credit card and then input and address for it to be shipped right ?
No confirmation of residency and stuff ?
Mee 2 got the same ****ing error....

[Q] Bing search app doesn't give news

Hi all, loving my new Lumia 920 for the most part. Couple of days in and it no longer feels like a brick, but just right!
One minor annoyance- does anyone now if the Bing App which you get from hitting the search key should display news and cinemas and whatnot? Mine doesn't.
Should be like so I would have thought?
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/how-to/wp8/web/browse-for-news
Its a regional thing. Set your location to the US and reboot. Now press search..
A little gutting coming from the UK. We have news and cinemas, why cant it work here?!

Pretty typical UK screwing.
You should be able to get that from local scout in Bing, Mine works in UK for local shops to cinemas etc.

Totally- different info though. Local Scout will tell you if a cinema is there, but doesn't give times and you can't search by film. I know that's built into aps like IMDB and Flixster, but it's just slick having it on Bing.
Found best thing to do to get the Bing app almost like it would be in the US (it won't give you film showtimes) is to just change the language settings of search to US.
Looking forward to this coming to UK properly, with UK news and whatnot. Have already used the offer screen to book tickets for champagne and platter of food in tower 42 in London- £30 instead of £60 for 2. Should be fun

Any roms for the Mediapad X1?

I'd like to get rid of the Huawei UI and get something clean like AOSP or CM.
Do we have any roms yet?
None so far. It seems Huawei hasn't released any sources yet.
As a workaround, just install any 3rd party launcher. Nova works fine.
Nova would probably be the first thing I put on there, I hear this phone doesn't come with the Google play store though?
What about root? Has that been done yet? Gotta uninstall all the junk

There isn't much junk on this phone, quite a clean ROM. The International models come with Play store. The China models have an installable Play store from the Huawei app store, so there is no problem.
To root, you need to first install HiSuite, then enable USB debugging, then run Root Genius.
I'm not sure which version I ordered. I got the FDD Dual LTE one from here..
http://www.huaweimobileshop.com/
Does HiSuite come with the phone or do I have to download it somewhere?

Excellent! Thank you!
I guess the first thing to do once I get the phone is to update it to the latest firmware via HiSuite and then root it.
I wonder if I need to unlock the phone as well? I will be putting in a sim card from the US, but I suspect phones outside the US aren't carrier locked.

OK, thanks. Any import tax on charged on it?
I'm in the UK and a bit concerned that I'm going to get hit with another £30 or £40 in import duty, as it'll be coming from the Far East. It might not be the same in the US though I suppose.
Does anyone know how it works regarding import tax/duty to the UK?

USA doesn't charge tax/customs for these devices. Some China based vendors will offer to ship the item without the original retail packaging to avoid additional taxes for certain destinations.

Yup, no taxes for me. It was either $13 for regular shipping and $19 for expedited shipping, Expedited took 3 days, pretty nice...
That's all I paid over the cost of the phone.

One of my first replies here on XDA, even tho I visit these forums every day.
About customs taxes: I live in The Netherlands, rougly 10% of all incoming parcels gets manually checked and opened by the dutch customs. I always let the seller mark the customs value as 17$ OR BELOW IT. The rule in The Netherlands is that all parcels, coming from outside EU, gets a 21% TAX and €17,50 standard import/clearance costs. Writing now with my X1, imported without any additional costs. Try to let the seller mark 15$ on your parcel and I think you can import it without having to pay taxes. Also this works perfect for me with DHL and small airmail parcels, big parcels (i.e. 20pcs Beats by Dre Studio) shipped with Airmail or HK Speedpost always gets picked out, never with DHL.
Wish you good luck, and let me knpw if you order it and how it's done after importing regardings taxes.

Thanks for the post. I'm hoping a friend of mine can get one from Malaysia and bring it back to the UK for me.
I suppose the important question is actually this:
Is the phone actually worth it - is it any good?

Great.
Phone is actually pretty good. Annoys me that the AOSP Android Development isn't going fast. Chinese forums already have CWM in Chinese language, but still nothing different than MIUI. I've installed the 4.4 Google Now launcher and removed the borders around the icons which MIUI implements by default. Really strange thing is that my Android is way faster now than it was when I got it in the beginning, didn't change anything.
Keyboard typing needs some practice at this big screen, using AOSP keyboard right now but I always type the letter 'M' instead of 'N' and the letter 'P' instead of 'o' lol. Trying to get used to it now for a couple of weeks, but still need to practice more haha.
Hopefully this phone gets dev's attention, so we can get a AOSP rom, but I think we'll need to wait on Huawei for releasing the kernel sources...

G6 Availability

I've been doing some asking around this morning, and in the UK at least it seems we'll have to wait until close to the end of March before we'll know about availability of the G6.
LG themselves claim to know nothing, but their UK website is already stating that Vodafone are taking the phone (no available dates though) and Vodafone's website makes no mention of the device.

It's a pre-order, no stock yet.
Only a couple of UK operators have said they will carry it, but none for order yet.
The UK's biggest 3rd party phone retailer who can hook you up on contracts from multiple operators (Carphone warehouse), doesn't even have a product page, only a register interest page. They are usually the first to get any new phones which don't have exclusivity deals.
Ran across this today:
http://bgr.com/2017/03/16/lg-g6-release-date-price-availability/
Preorder tomorrow!
It is already in stock in Malaysian DirectD store.
