[NEO] [TUT] Android 2.3.4 - MT15i 4.0.1.A.0.283 Global with Root Guide - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

Hello All
This is a guide to install the latest version of Android 2.3.4 - MT15i 4.0.1.A.0.283 Global on your NEO and install root access.
Please note it does not install DooMLoRD's kernel, but uses it to root your phone. This is a workaround until the source of 2.3.4 is released and a new kernel based on 2.3.4 can be released. You will also need to have an unlocked bootloader.
1. Backup your data. (Just in case!)
2. Download the FTF file from here:
http://www.multiupload.com/DGV8GLT1TP
(Thanks to sdk16420 for uploading the update files and thomasafca for making the FTF and uploading!)
3. Flash the FTF file with Flashtool. Unselect 'wipe user data' to preserve data and settings. (You can get flashtool from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000012)
4. Restart your phone and turn off. The first time loading will take a bit of time.
5. Download the boot.img from this thread:
[KERNEL][NEO] DooMKernel [Rel: v08][Dt: 01/Sept/2011][FW:4.0.A.2.368]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197263
Thanks to DooMLoRD.
7. Save the boot.img in the folder with fastboot binaries (fastboot.exe file and other files)
8. Turn off the phone and start it in fastboot mode.
9. Use this command:
Code:
fastboot boot boot.img
10. This will not install the kernal, but boot the system with this kernal and allow it to autoroot and install SuperUser.
Once this is done, turn your phone off and restart.
You phone will then reset and have root access and 2.3.4!
Enjoy

It was obvious that the latest kernel for 2.3.3 would be used for 2.3.4 as well.
Look at the kernel version numbers for 2.3.3 4.0.A.368 : 2.6.32.9-perf and 4.0.1.A.0.283 : 2.6.32.9-perf.
The conclusion?
I have just finished installing 2.3.4 and DoomKernel v8. Well... it works. So no need to make a new kernel.

That you can root your new FW like that too, should you not want custom kernel.

I'm confirm that. Doomlord v8 kernel works well to 2.3.4 firmware
Sent from my MT15i using Tapatalk

I guess I am more cautious. It may be the same, but I'd prefer to wait untill the source code is released. Or is there a way to check if both kernal's are the same?

Same kernel version?
The source is already released...

For 2.3.4? It's released?
This user posted the Doomlord's Kernal does not have WIFI working. I was just going onto the side of caution, so people can have stock ROM that's just rooted, until it has a wider release No bugs then or unforseen issues.

Still not seeing that it is the same kernel...
And Doomkernel does not cause wifi problems, its SE FW that has this problem, it merely shows out more evidently with tweaks and additions in DoomKernel
---------- Post added at 01:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:32 PM ----------
Discard that, despite the same version number... I started to have wifi problem as well. Must be some setting in DoomKernel as to what exactly...

i dont get it anymore, will doomkernel work on 2.3.4 or not? (not only root)
and if you have already doomkernel on 2.3.3 can you still update to 2.3.4?

Yes you can update, and yes the kernel boots, works but without wifi.
DoomLord has done quite some changes to networking in his DoomKernel. I had certain problems with my wireless router in 2.3.3 as well, but now with 2.3.4 wifi just stops working at all.

Tried to get root in your way funkyblue, device boots up the Xperia custom bootimage and shuts down. No root. RootXperia method works for my neo.

interesting. Not sure why. It should work and boot.

That is curious indeed. Must be that my device is somewhat... special or otherwise different.

If you want use "rootxperia" that mean you have bootloader already open, and that mean you have partically already "the magical root"
Why do we need root, a rooted phone one more time!
It sounds funny!
Its a joke.
But the point is..."we dont have prerooted 2.3.4.img yet"..

Is WiFi also not functioning using the ClockWorkMod method?

Everything works superbly well. I used this Global 283 ROM ftf:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KWNWTH47
I cleared Dalvik Cache/Cache/User Data/Battery Stats first (still had CWM from DoomLord V8 on 368), then ftf via Flashtool, then NeoRecovery Image (boot only not flash!), then Rootexperia.zip via temporary CWM.
I then removed some of the naff apps using ES Explorer. Not that this is entirely necessary of course. Just tidier!
Really happy with it. No problems or funnies at all. And I'm a picky SoB...
(The trick I learned from previous phones and my own ROM cooking is to clear everything before flashing. A clean deck, as it were.)

[Q] Revert/Downgrade from WB5 w/ Doomkernel to 2.1

I've searched around and can't seem to find the solution.
I'm on WB5 w/ Doomkernel and I want to go back to 2.1, and try a fresh reinstall of everything, including unlocking my bootloader (which I also don't know how to do, since I'm using doomkernel for locked bootloaders and there's one for unlocked, and I don't want to mess up anything).
Thanks to any who answer

You can't flash a whole stock rom with xRecovery, since you can't flash kernels and basebands through it.
You should use flashtool to downgrade your phone.

Im on the new WB 5.00c and want to downgrade to 2.1.A.0.435 Global Generic ROM - Root / JIT v2 / xRecovery - Working WiFi (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936462)
it also includes a base band. Should I downgrade from the current 71 based one, after i flash the rom listed? I am as little unsure as I have always upgraded upwards. Was not sure if there was an incompatibility. I should know this by now as I have flashed many roms with xrec and flashtool also. My whole intention is to unlock the bootloader. I dont mind a full down grade since I have found 2 major issues with the wb rom, and may or may not upgrade back to it. Just need a reassurance is all.

Whenever you flash a firmware either upgrading or downgrading, just make sure that you flash the proper/compatible baseband and kernel files. These are generally provided with the firmware in the form of .tft file or the proper kernel is mentioned in the post itself!!
Here is a list of all the firmwares!!
Simply flash using Flashtool. Link is mentioned in the post itself!!
Edit: you can try the firmware mentioned in the link. Just remember to flash the Firmware files using flashtool as mentioned!!

.62fw rooted with CWM - My way

Hi
If you follow the forum you will find some posts of me trying to have last fw .62 rooted with CWM working. Even if some users can do it by OTA, other by other process I never have total success but like most of you…I simple wont to have last fw .62 working, rooted and with CWM also working. The best I get was .62fw rooted but without CWM working and if install fw.62 by the traditional way I just get SE logo and have to flash it again.
After several times I finally have it work…
The only thing I have so far is that I believe I flash what I think is last baseband and after I flash it my computer says I have a new fw to install!!
This process is using pieces of ideas from others so I just get a way of put all together and have it working for me and decide to share with you.
Like always you can try it at your own responsibility.
Fist you should have .42 fw installed.
Root it.
Install CWM XPERIA from market (not the traditional way)
Download this and put it on your SD card: http://sourceforge.net/projects/sea...tloaderlock/generic/generic620.2.zip/download
Reboot NEO on CWM and install the file.
Reboot your phone and install the previous downloaded file.
At this time you have fw .62 without kernel.
Reboot your phone again and again go to the icon of CWM and reinstall again CWM.
Put you phone off again and flash just the .62 kernel. You can use .62 complete fw and choose only to install kernel.
At this point you should have .62 fw with .62 kernel.
On my case I install CWM again just in case.
If you reboot and press down volume you will have access to CWM.
I flash what I read that was last baseband using this file: http://www.mediafire.com/?tfd8bdbdrcd4bpq (after that my computer advice me to update phone…don´t know way)
For those that consider my guide too nooby…guys was the only way I found…sorry.
For those that somehow contribute with links to have it compiled I thank them.

[ROOT][ICS][Locked bootloader] for ICS 4.0.4 : 4.1.B.0.587

Hi,
First of i want to say that i am not from Ray section, i own a Xperia S, but my sister has Xperia Ray, i upgraded her phone from GB. to ICS (4.1.B.0.587) but didn't know how to root it, after searching i found this on Arc section. i tried it and seems to work on Ray too. So here it goes. And i take no credit for this work, all credit goes to the makers.. And i don't know if this was posted here before but if so MODs. can delete it.
This tutorial is for 4.1.B.0.587 only!
1) flash this via flashtool : ST18i_4.1.A.0.562_kernel.ftf http://www.mediafire.com/?gbs29dw3tzx765k (thanks to zstoichev)
OBS : you might get errors after the reboot, don't worry, this is normal and step 3 will fix that.
2) Root your Ray with DooMLoRD's tool:
Unknown Sources and Debugging must be checked in phone settings. Before you open the .bat file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038
3) Flash the 4.1.B.0.587 kernel via. flashtool

4) Your done..
Credits to : DoomLoRD, OverLo4d ( for his tutorial in Arc/S section) and last but not least zstoichev)
Thank you. I assume, it's also ok if the Xperia Ray is on stock ICS 4.0.4_4.1.B.0.587 already before starting your guide?

Can you please upload just striped-down verisions of both kernels 4.0.3 (562) & 4.0.4 (587) (only *.sin files packed in ftf file)? In this case there is no need to DL 200+MB files wor me (already on ICS 4.0.4_4.1.B.0.587) so I only need kernel files in ftf not the whole ROM).
Thank you!

Could not flash 587 kernel
Hi, I've run into a problem that's just been driving me crazy.
I've essentially been able to flash into build 562, and then run the root (which works), but when I try to flash to the 587 kernel, I keep checking my version and it always says 4.0.3 build 562 (paraphrasing here).
I've converted the 587 kernel.sin file into an ftf and ran it, but still it does not work.
Can I get some help please?
I'm probably newbing out on something, but everywhere I search people keep saying "flash to 587 kernel" but there was barely any information on what to do with the .sin files after I got them. I just want to confirm that I simply bundle them up using flashtool and flash that file right? but that doesnt work.
Phone is xperia ray st18a, bootloader is locked on Rogers.
Thanks for any help.
I also wanted to add, for flashing the kernel, i've tried using fastboot(adb) but could not select the kernel yet.
My attempts are flashing with a full 587 build but excluding everything but the kernel, and not wiping any data, I am still stuck at 562.

[Q] Reboot problem, rooted phone with two installed apps by cwm :/

Hi all!
(Well, I have to start with that I'm hungarian so sorry for my english.)
I dont know if anyone has already mentioned this problem in other threads but i didnt find any. So my problem is that I rooted my phone with changing kernel (neoV 4.0.3) after that rooting and after rooting upgrading the latest mini pro kernel in my phone (4.1.B.0.587).
There was no problem i have managed to root my phone. After that i downloaded the cwm auto installer app from play and installed cwm. After that i installed two apps with cwm, exactly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705352&highlight=root
and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695048
After these steps i realised that my girlfriend wanted to call me but it was a missed call so i tried to call her back. And HERE IS THE PROBLEM: when i touch on the button with the green phone icon before starting to call anyone my phone collapsed and reboots itself.
Well i dont know if the problem comes from the root (maybe i did something wrong but got good result) or from the 2 apps installed with cwm and there i made some mistakes :/ well i dont know i think i did everything well but as i said i really dont know what the problem is.
Please help me!! Thank you in advance
Post the links of those two apps properly... Unable to click them directly
And as you said your phone is NEO V or Mini Pro
then why did you upload the "neo v" "latest mini pro kernel" :what::sly::banghead:
Specify your phone and kernel properly or upload a screenshot
And if you have you have installed mini pro kernel in neo V or vice versa
Then flash stock firmware via flashtool
Sent from my Smultron running CM10
I have mini pro(sk17i), but as you know mini pros dont have 4.0.3 kernel and rom cause the first ics was the 4.0.4 so i just chose a random 4.0.3 kernel (neov) and rooted that one and after the root i put the original sk17i kernel 4.1.B.0.587 back. and after that i got root permissions in my 4.0.4 ics phone with its official latest kernel. Thats all. I just followed the steps to root. and now you can see the apps' urls

Hmmmmm.....
1.flash stock firmware into your XMP...
2.unlock the bootloader...
3.flash any custom kernel that have pre-rooted and CWM....
4.problem solved....
Btw, correct me if i'm wrong but isn't flashing other kernel (neo v in your case) is proof that your phone bootloader is already unlock????
My bootloader is not unlocked because im having a vodafone phone so not an unlocked phone :/ And i heard that unlocking a locked phone is very difficult and dangerous :/ ....

What do you mean root by restore method can you elaborate?
If nothing works
Simply unlock the bootloader and flash pre rooted kernel.

That's what problem is, nothing went wrong no errors its just that after rooting steps it doesn't show SuperUser icon.
I flashed with old firmware 6.1.1.B.1.10 then tried to rooted with Binary's v.29 file and then again flashed firmware with 6.1.1.B.1.54 Still no go.
Guys pls help.
u needed .10 kernel , not FIRMWARE, if u replaced .10 rooted firmware with .54 firmware u will loose root
Install munjeni's recovery from

have you tried rooting your phone using flashtool?
Flashtool > Device name (e.g My Mt27) > Root

I think you just need to persevere. I took me about 4 hours to get my Sony Sola to root with the above instructions, really hard work as the phone is nigh on unusable after flashing with 6.1.1.B.1.10 .
First Time I did it every thing seemed to go fine, I selected the backup on the Sola as promoted by Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry and restarted, then re flashed with 6.1.1.B.1.54 but it wasn't rooted.
I did it all again, but for the next few hours the backup restore would not appear on my phone screen, I would just get a black screen and occasionally i would be able to power off (i say occasionally as after flashing with 10, hardly anything works on the phone, and the touch screen never works), other times i had to use the volume done button and power button to re-start the phone, then would have to get it to start up without booting - just going into the charge screen - so i could eventually power it down to re-flash with 54!
Any way after doing the process over, and over again for about 4 hours, i gave up. Tried again the next morning and it worked first time! I didn't even have to select to restore the back up, or power off on the phone, it all seemed to do it for me!
Just keep trying hopefully you will get there.:good:
1.Try to reflash whole ICS ftf, around 500MB.Means install ICS again,or repair your phone using Sony PC Companion
2.After finish, download these three things http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029756
3.Go to computer/local disk c/flashtool,then drivers,install drivers,choose Xperia P,U,sola drivers and fastboot,flashmode
4.After finished installing drivers reboot your computer
5.After reboot flash .10 firmware using flashtool
6.Root using Bin4ry's method
7.You should see Supersu app in app drawer
7.At last flash .54 firmware
8.Done.
Hope this method help.
