There's nothing wrong with htcs method... It unlocks the phone, only thing is you have to flash kernels through fastboot. HTC came through kid.

Believe me, I would much rather have s-off too, but flashing kernels through fastboot doesn't bug me. I actually use the stock kernel anyway lol.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk

Thought I'd give my input... If you like waiting for the next update to Revolutionary that's fine, but the HTC Method works fine. Only "setback" is that you have to flash through fastboot. Not really much of an issue. And at that you will only have to do it through fastboot if you are going to be using a different kernel. If by some chance you are going to another ROM that has the same kernel then you won't need to do fastboot.
It works fine, I've run CM7 alpha through this method with no issues. Aside from the somewhat buggy alpha release but that's expected...
So it comes down to your preference. Do what you want, it's your phone. Both methods will work.

use revolutionary now then just revert back to stock and re-run the new revolutionary when it's released.

I used the HTC method and I am rooted and running a custom ROM. Don't see practical differences at this point.

So with HTC method what happens if you run a custom ROM with custom kernel built in like synergys latest nightly. Does it default to stock kernel?

But thanks! I wanna take a look at this anyways.

doesnt this mean htc basically voids the warranty and we can not get a replacement because our phones in their database as rooted via HTC
HTC's method still has S-On its a deal breaker for me. No custom recovery and my warranty is partially void. I'm good with revolutionary method. Hopefully they will update root with the new ota.

From HTC
I acknowledge that use of the unlock bootloader may void all or parts of my warranty device and my device may not function as intended by HTC.
I acknowledge that, if my device requires repairs, HTC may charge for additional costs due to the unlocked bootloade

umm unlocked = S-OFF. that was the whole point.
Interesting....
No way am I going to unlock like this (Thank you Revolution!) but this reads like while warranty "status" will be changed, it's in the event of a "bricked" device. So maybe Sprint can't say they won't honor MFG defects, broken screens and the other issues that we would typically UNROOT for before going to the Sprint store.
I am going to find the actual disclaimer BUT under the FAQ section titled "What does this mean for me?" it reads.
"Unlocking the bootloader means that you now have the ability to customize software on your device. Please note that changing your bootloader can cause significant issues with your device and once you have unlocked your device, you have agreed to the disclaimer that states a change in warranty status such that in the event you render your device unusable, you are responsible for the recovery of your device, whether by repair or by other means."
What do you guys/gals think?
ETA: I didn't see the text in the posts that came in as I was typing BUT here are images of the actual pages that you have to click through.
So what exactly does this unlock if you can't flash anything through the bootloader? I kinda thought that was the whole point.
I appreciate that they are trying but I just don't understand what this actually allows you to do.

I just don't flash the HBOOT at the end which is what I assume the different versions mean.

Also a reminder that after S-off there is no need to unlock bootloader since (let them know to agree to install JB Hboot) JB Hboot allows for fastboot commands and you can just install a recovery via commands.
I even used your Noob tool after s-off to install a recovery.
It looks functional but maybe you should make the ui like yourbother program. Also a great idea would be to find a way to make the program an eye that does not require a folder. A folder is fine but not preferable. It's fine as is but that is all I think it n3ds to be notable.

It will need the folder because the user will need to add files into it.

New to Rezound

Hey guys.
New to the Rezound but not HTC. Had the Thunderbolt before and was rooted.
The way I understand this is that the Rezound has a locked bootloader so we can't just simply root. Right? Also, if I just unlock the bootloader, I can't flash New radios just ROMS right until I'm S-OFF?
Is there any other way than the wire trick to get S-OFF? Not a big fan of poking the internals of my phone. Lol
Just got this phone yesterday.

Honestly dude, i was one of the first to go for S-off simply because i was sick oh waiting. I wouldnt let myself unlock as i knew i had the possibility of causing warranty issues and didnt want to risk it. S-off is really easy to do though and VERY nice to have once you get it right. Makes flashing roms a ton easier and i just find it convenient as you never have to worry about if you are LOCKED, UNLOCKED, or RELOCKED, its just, LOCKED S-off. also, you can downgrade if you want to if you are S-off but not just unlocked.
The wire trick is so ridiculously easy, its not poking around your hardware like people make it sound like, it's like pushing a paper clip into the reset button of an old tech device, just wrap the clip in electric tape where you'll touch it

First, Welcome! id say we are a pretty welcoming community.
as for you questions, id say do the s-off. its easy pls the benefits never stop. its actually extremely easy. it takes a couple times because of timing but still.
then id say try out one of the new RUU's for ics. try it out get a good feel. if its too hot or you have issues, ruu back to gb.
for GB roms, id suggest Innfibilis 1.4 (slaughtered that name).
for ICS, id have to suggest nils or con rom if you like the latest leak sense 3.6, pkmn or newts one XxX or RezROM S4 for sense 4. as for senseless, try CleanRom developer addition or bamf senseless.
we do not have true AOSP roms as of now but they will be soon. hope you enjoy your new phone!

I have confidence in our devs they are amazing. I think they will find an exploit and get it down for the rest of us. It's just a matter of time. I'm not really in a rush I actually really enjoy and don't mind stock.

anything new?
Anything new on rooting 2.06?? Is there really no other way (such as using ruu or alternative pc work) to restore to an older firmware which is rootable? There must be SOME way.

If you jtag your device you can revert to the old firmware and unlock and root it. There is no other way.
future?
that sucks. Whats the outlook for a likelihood that they will find a root method for this update? Is it just a matter of time or is it worth jtaging?

Everyone can wait for this phone to be rooted once again , but I would bet that most of the Devs involved have moved on to rooting more in demand phones at this point . I am S-Off , but if I wasnt by now I would have J-Tagged because honestly I wouldnt hold my breath on a Root to be found at this point . I could be wrong but I doubt it , This is just my two cents .
Several devs are still working on it. They are having trouble unlocking the bootloader on 2.04. 2.06 is even harder from what I have read. They have root but its only temp from what I can tell. It won't stick because of locked bootloader.

Temp root would at least allow us to remove the bloatware, which is one of the bigger annoyances for me. I'll go searching for that information, but if you happen to know where to look, I'd appreciate the link.

Nope. /system is write protected. To the end user(you and me) temp root is all but useless. That's why wasn't released. All it has a use for is finding other exploits/making them work. It's likely that the new s off method starts with temproot.

We have s-off. Just have to wait for beaups to complete and release it.

i just got the dna and im reading that there is no root for 2.06? is that correct? im currently on 2.06 software.if someone did find a way and released a root method can you kindly post a link? thanks

Yea from what I understand no update will turn s-on however you will be unrooted. Simply reroot through twrp and you'll be fine.

Just a word of caution, I know from experience on several other devices that Verizon usually uses OTA's to lock bootloaders and obviously unroot. Grant it, these phones have been mostly Samsung devices, but I'm just saying be careful. You don't want to update and find out your stuck for some reason.. Had it happen... Not fun... Not saying it will happen this way with our Max though either.

If somehow they relocked your boot loader you can use the ruu mode flashable twrp in my ruu thread to flash a custom recovery and reroot so you can unlock again.

I'm sure you're right, I guess I'm just nervous about updates from Verizon after seeing what they did to Samsung owners.... Hopefully that never happens here though. . Thanks again for your effort and work with our device.
