Probably, but not very quickly. I think a realistic expectation would be next summer for an official release.

1 year??!?? By that time there will be a SG3, damn it i really wanted it, guess ill have to replace my SG2

I think some time next year though doubt it'll be as late as summer for the exact reason you mentioned, the SG3 being released around that time of year. Expect it Spring hopefully.
Strange you'd want to replace it THIS quickly though.

Hopefully there will be some more AOSP roms which are working good.
oxygen and cm7 seem to have some probs and hardware isn't supported completely
For my htc desire there are much more complete working AOSP roms. Would be nice to have that suppot on SGS2.

surely once the ICS is out to nexus the devs will have roms cooked up in the next few days after its released..

Maybe not within a few days, but I think we'll have ICS by the end of this year, assuming it does get released in October/November.

i guess its becoz Samsung doesnt release all its source codes especially for drivers and hardware specific stuffs

Lol going off past updates,
Nexus nov-dec
Galaxy feb-mar
Either way, its way too soon for us to be talking of ICS, im waiting for 2.3.5 as that will arrive before any ICS update.

[Q] Ice Cream Sandwich

As the source code for ice cream sandwich will be out in a month or two & as already google has told that there will be no specific hardware requirements...
So will our little optimus one be able to taste this yummy dessert???
We are having so many talented developers for our o1 n hope that someone will really make it out.... Whats your opinion guys???
w/o to see the (new???) code based on ICS we cant say if its possible or if we
have to re-patch a lot of things in android to get it work with this device.
think about that fact, the P500 is a low budget device and there are some hardware
barriers to solve than.
IMHO i think, its possible - its a question of time only.
As long as Andy develops for our phone,we can also expect jelly beans on p500.

SGS2 to get ICS Jan 2012?

Take this with a pinch of salt as it's far from official but:
Gaurav Hasabnis, an industry analyst and contributing editor of Fonearena.com posted on Twitter: “Something gonna come in Jan 2012. #sgs2 users gonna rejoice!”, followed by a second tweet: “Soon Mali400 gonna be in full use.”
The mentioned Mali 400 is the name of the GPU on the Samsung Galaxy S II. Rumors states Ice Cream Sandwich will utilize the the full potential of high-end smartphones better than previous Android OS, which leads us to believe that the ICS will be making its way to the Galaxy S2.

If they won't release it officially, I'm sure we'll get a custom rom with 4.0 running as soon as the Galaxy Nexus is launched But good news, anyway!
Just think. If it's January 'officially,' then it could be December (or earlier) for us!
That's a great news. Though I think we'll get ICS unofficially before that. Anyone?

Didn't Samsung drop development of 2.3.4 as they started 2.3.5
I still haven't got any official updates from 2.3.3 on a SIM free handset here in the UK.
Samsung UK have also tweeted that there is no time frame for getting ICS on the SGSII (read in to that what you want)
Think custom roms will be the only way forwards on ICS for some time.
Well that announcement is about Official release, NOT unofficial one. 70% users use Official ROM and like them, existing use this and that. Without a Stock ROM there won't be any Custom ROMs? Would there be?
Count me in those 70%.
We'll sure have some custom rom runnig ICS before the official one but I wonder what they'll do about touchwizz...
Looking forward to it

Please note that AOSP developers have asked that prospective downloaders wait for the greenlight to download ICS, as it hasn't entirely propogated through their system, and you may end up with a hodgepodge of files from ICS and Gingerbread if you download now.
Moving this to General as there is no development going on in this thread... just informing everyone about the release of 4.0.1

Source code release means ROMs are basically done, and we should all prep for installing them by running backups.
Remember last year how the GB ROMs for the captivate started flowing 48 hours after GB source dropped.

CM tends to be unable to go very far without the vendor-proprietary bits.
It's possible but EXTREMELY difficult. The CM team has said it'll probably be at least 4-5 months to integrate in general, that's not counting device-specific bringups.
The fastest route to ICS is likely going to be porting an I9100 release.

[Q] ICS?

I know we don't have any ICS kernel sources yet but do you think we will get ICS before this August?
I thought I read somewhere that we were getting it in the next month or two. I would assume we would have a good working ICS port at the least in the next month or two. Can't speak for the devs here, but I thought that's what we were looking at. As for when ATT will push it out, that could be forever...I hate how long they take, but oh well.

Having used ICS on the captivate, it truly is an update worth switching devices for. However, I'm pretty happy with the I777 so I will just wait. Android updates that were actually really good: Froyo, Honeycomb, and ICS. The rest were just hyped too damn much and gingerbread is the worst of all of them (imho).
Wow. Use the sticky thread.

For one, it's not just ICS when Jellybean comes out, you're going to get it much quicker than anyone else. And also, it's the purest form of the Android version minus any bloatware each manufacturer puts on the phone, which can be either a pro or a con, but overall, the bloatware has been a con in the past.
IMO, Gingerbread was a very good update, Froyo didn't seem that special when I finally got it for my S7. The biggest improvement was non-broken radio firmware, which had nothing to do with Android version.
Gingerbread had significant power management improvements.

I love and appreciate all the work that the Devs have done for our phone, but if we don't get ICS soon I will be leaving this phone. What the hell is your problem? Name one phone other than the Nexus line that has received ICS officially.
HTC hasn't released any updates yet.
Motorola hasn't released any updates yet.
Sony has only released betas (I applaud them for putting out prereleases)
Asus has only pushed it to one tablet (easier to port HC tablets due to HC being a newer codebase and not having to deal with the RIL) and that was an utter disaster
So far, my experience with ICS is that it's not an improvement over Gingerbread. I haven't been able to see any significant positive improvement - some parts of the UI are a bit shinier, but the gapps user interface is clunker than it was in GB. ICS has some good improvements on tablets, but for phones - not so nice.

First of all I said that I APPRECIATE the devs!!!! And I never said that the roms were official. Almost all HTC and LG phones have ICS roms. I left t-mobile with the htc sensation and believe me that phone runs 300% better now that it is running ICS. And by the way Entropy it is no disrespect to any dev by what I said, I am rocking your Kernel right now (Excellent job). I am pissed at Samsung and them only. Our phone is supposed to be a flagship phone so what the hell is the holdup?
If you can't wait then just go get the G Nexus. These questions have been brought up and beaten to death. Just don't be surprised when Ics finally drops for our device and our Roms are superior than most. GS2 surely has the hardware to run prety much anything smoothly and dev community is strong here

AOSP Rom for Google Now

Looking for an AOSP rom I can use as a daily driver. Just saw that Google Now has been ported over for anyone running an AOSP ICS rom and I'd like to try it out. The roms I have seen for the Rezound all seem to have issues with data not working, etc. Are there any out there that are stable without major issues?
If not, I guess I will just have to be content waiting for a Sense based JB rom to come out. Something tells me I won't have to wait terribly long.
If you are having data issues then there is something going wrong when you flash. Are you s-on unlocked?
We do not have AOSP, yet. We are waiting for source to be released.

I have a feeling we'll have a AOSP by mid August or so.
There is a really good chance that at some point we'll see an official OTA to JB after ICS finally drops. The Rezound is less than 6 months old, still one of the high end phones in Verizon's lineup (for now) and it's just an incremental update. It's not like the jump from GB to ICS.

No need for ASOP for Google Now, just ICS. I have it running perfectly fine on CleanROM DE, minus the same no voice search issue everyone else is having. If you are running into no data problems, then you are running an older version of that port. The no data error was fixed
