Sony Tablet S Cradle SGPDS1 - Sony Tablet S

I bought the Sony Tablet S Cradle along with the tablet, planningto use it as a photo frame as Sony Advertised.
It turns out, the Cradle itself works as expected. However, the software part is not so great. When you put in the Tablet onto the cradle, you have three apps to choose to start (you can set one of them to be default): a clock, the picture gallary, or the chumby social feed.
All looks good until you touch the screen. It will go back to the lock screen or the home screen and will not come back automatically. You have to either reinsert the tablet or start the app yourself. On the contract, If you want to use it and pick it up from cradle, it will not go to lock screen automatically, you have to touch it again.
Overall not so user friendly.
The cradle does have two view angles. Adjusted but push the support up and down. The 30% angle is perferct for me to use as photo frame or tap. It feels solid and has the weight to support the tablet. The only complaint about the hardware is the power slot, just too narrow for an adult's finger when you try to push the power plug into it.

Me Want! The pictures aren't showing up for me. Where are you from? I need the accessories (UK) but haven't seen them anywhere yet. Have you tried pressing the home button to get back to the clock etc? The Xperia Play is the same and when you press the home button it goes back to the clock screen.

The Pictures are on a file server. Sorry I forgot to turn on the link permission.
Should be fixed now.

i was planing to get that but it costs wayy too much and now this?
i certainly dont wants the hassle..

Am I reading this wrong? So when its in its cradle you can only run 1 of 3 applications? (Clock, Gallery, or Chumby) You cant watch a movie, or listen to music?

No, you can run what you like but you can get the tablet s to run any one of those 3 apps by default. i.e. to automatically run as a photo frame when you dock.

Ahhh.... lol, ok pheww... i was like wth? man that woud have been so retarded to only be able to use 3 apps when docked! I was about to take my tablet back to the store!... lol

I received my cradle today. Looks like the best place to keep it is my bedside table. It's Desk Clock app is far smarter than my alarm clock. You can set unique alarm times for different days of the week, and tap the upper right corner icon to greatly dim the screen yet leave the time still visible in a dark room.
The Chumby app cycles through several different sub-apps including many clock faces, weather, stocks, Facebook, a photo site, and several Japanese language sites. Shouldn't be a bad distraction if you park the tablet in the cradle on your desk at work.
For $39 it is not a bad value compared to what other cradles/docks sell for. Absolutely no outputs from the cradle though. Simply charges when tablet is in place. It recharged mine even with the Chumby app, screen, and WiFi on all the time. This may be why they used the beefy AC adapter they chose.

Ok, my short review is up. Not much to say about the cradle since it's basically just a charging stand. Have a look anyway. Comments welcome there or here .

I have yet to test it out but you can set a default cradle App, so when you set it into the cradle the app will run Auto then you can click the screen to change the app or do whatever you want.
I have put the cradle on my bedside table it’s great for listen to music, watching a video clip (I use the DLNA feature to pull music and videos from my computer so I don't take up my internal memory). The clock app is simple and beautiful as said above comes with good selection of alarms. The stand takes up allot less room then just plugging the tablet ito a charger and laying it down. I find that it was worth the money.

Ive had it since day 2, it is incredibly easy to set in, I have a dock for my droid x, and thats just a nightmare. Id say its almost a neccessity if you want drop and go charging, no cable fumblings.
I have zero qualms with the dock. I did not know till I read this post though, that it can pivot more, I usually inspect everything when I get something new.

Yeah, I agree. I'm glad mine arrived the same day as the tablet. It really is a must have.

Does the cradle charge the tablet, or do you still use the stock charger?

The stock charger plugs into the cradle.

Got the cradle free with the Tablet at sony shop, going to try it out now

I own the dock as well, I love the picture frame functionality but I really feel they missed an opportunity without a PC connectivity option on the dock. At least offer a 3.5mm jack. I would have glady paid an extra 15 bucks knowing I could dock the tablet and have easy connection to better speakers for music playback. Now I have to breakout the wireless bluetooth adapter, which works, but is kinda dumb since the speakers are like 3 inches away from where the tablet's dock is.
I would still recommend it for purchase from the aesthetic value, but still would have loved to see more thought put into its overall usefulness. In its current state, its a good buy, but not a necessity.

Agreed...I got the dock a couple of days ago from Amazon for $35 (actually 25 because of my purchase of NBA 2k12). The dock is very sleek but definitely a vanity purchase. It doesn't offer any other functionality that I would have appreciated like an HDMI out or any other inputs. It does however make my tablet into an elegant picture frame and makes playing games on my tablet hands free (since I have an OTG cable and logitech contoller).

Thanks so much for all the feedback on this item. I just placed an order, it looks great!

Got anyone in the UK John Lewis are selling the official cradle for only £29 delivered!!!!
http://www.johnlewis.com/231396239/Product.aspx
Shame I already got one and I forked out £34 for mine

I have this, it's great. It was included with my tab as I pre-ordered with Sony.
For anyone who says it's too expensive, this thing actually costs $69(!!) in Australia. You don't know how good you have it. The 16GB tablet here costs $580(!!) also. The Australian dollar is currently 'worth' 1.02 US dollars as well, just add insult to injury. We get massively ripped off here on a scale you could never imagine.

Desktop Cradle

Has anyone seen a cradle available for the Dream yet?
I think that one of the nice advantages about buying the fruit phone is that there is a really large quantity of really nice accessories available. What I like is the cradle that mounts inside the car and the various desktop cradles with integrated speakers.
For the G1, I hope to see something that can hold the phone in a good position on the top of the dashboard of my car or attach to the window which makes it easy when using the GPS and perhaps provides a method of connecting to the DVD player head unit. I also hope for a nice desktop cradle for home, perhaps with a couple of speakers on each side.
What do you all think? (If you're going to tell me to just get the iPhone then don't bother commenting, keep it to yourself)
I think that a company like directed electronics could easily put something like this out. They're the guys who make all the speaker docks for Sirius/XM. I know they made an executive, flat speaker dock that's capable of holding a number of Sirius radios plus an ipod (with interchangeable cradle cups.) Since pretty much all HTC phones use the same external port for USB and audio, I don't know why some manufacturer hasn't jumped on this yet.
Wait, it could be because a lot more Americans buy ipods and other apple gadgets (with their own connector) than they do expensive smarthpones.
It's a small-but-untapped market yet.
Agreed, so fingers crossed that there will be some companies out there that produce something of the kind!
I had a dock for my PSP and a dock for my old DELL Pocket PC and have to say, I really don't miss them. A dock means another USB port always hooked up to the hub, always sapping power, and having it either constantly syncing in the background (RAM drain) or having to remember to manually sync it.
I kinda like just having one mini-USB that I can use for my camera, zen, psp, and phone. I really don't ever need to hook up all of those at the same time, so it keeps my desktop more tidy.
Remember, this is a cloud device, there's no sync software, a desktop doc is a relic of the sync era, so that's probably why there isn't one for it so far. But maybe? That car dock makes sense, definitely.

I don't know about you but I loved when I had my Dell x51v in the dock at my desk... it helps me see the time, email, meetings, and anything else... for the same reason I leave my tilt open and tilted up... I think a dock would be cool(even if you had to plug the miniUSB into it) so that I could see the screen at my desk.
since the G1 actually doesn't sync with anything at all, is there really a point to a dock? I hook it up real quick to xfer over some music or grab some pics off of it but no real reason to leave it there other than maybe to charge it.... which so far is quite frequently.
Well, we don't need a dock but it would be slightly easier and nicer IMO to just get home, pop the phone into the dock for charging and in the meantime I can transfer files onto it rather than leaving it lying on my desk. Plus the dock should hold the phone upright so I can sit back and see whats going on, on the screen.
So in conclusion, we don't need a dock for anything that we do with the phone but it would be nice to have one and it would be useful to many.
... except to charge it!
lol
Doll furniture...
I was able to get my hands on one of these that fit the G1. Poked a hole in the seat and voila, a desktop G1 cradle. Just need to find a mini-palm tree to go with the look...and maybe a beer, hmm...

Definitely It was a lot easier to swap batteries on the Dash, though. It made the cradle with the charging slot superfluous.
I looked and found the ones pictured in this thread. Are there any desktop cradles yet that will allow you to rotate the phone to landscape orientation while still being cradled? I want to use the phone as an alarm clock and I found an app i really like for this, but it only works with landscape =\
fold a piece of cardboard or chipboard in thirds to make a triangle with a little bit of extra at one end like /\_. tape it. fold the extra bit up slightly. place triange on desk like so ___/\___. turn phone sideways and place phone on this lip, resting back on the triangle. now plug in your usb. DONE AND FREE!!!!

You do realize that the G1 comes with an alarm clock app right? I use it along with bedside, which mutes everything, but the phone ringer incase of an emergency call at night.
I use this on myself because I want the phone to lean back a bit more.

As for the blue light comment. Electrical tape works wonders. I even cut a tiny little slit in the tape just so I could barely see it when its dark.

Of course I know this. I want an alarm CLOCK. I want it to be a clock, with a nice big display. I have three phones, I use them all for alarms. But I don't have an actual clock in my room and the G1 with this clock app would be perfect.
Has anyone considered rigging up a palm touchstone yet? I bought one for my father(he obviously has a palm pre), and it doesn't look that complicated.
Remove the hardware from the back of the included Palm pre battery cover
Attach said hardware to g1 battery cover
Wire contacts to G1 battery contacts
Enjoy
Is there anything going on behind the scenes that I might be missing? Aside from the fact that it's 60-70 bucks depending on where you go, what would stop you from doing this successfully?

Callpod FUELTANK

OK so I got this at my BBY.
Callpod FuelTank UNO
It works pretty darn good (especially with the HTC adapter that has ports for charging,3.5mm,2.5mm)...I stream from Flycast and Pandora almost 90% of the time in the car so battery drains pretty fast on 3G).
My battery doesnt dip below 93-95%.
SO my question is, will using this HURT the G1 in any way? And if anyone else has tried it....I paid $40 for it....it was this or the USB PowerStick.

I had $50 of best buy money got it one for $40. Completely solves battery problem without ever having to buy a new extended battery w/ larger cover. I doubt it will damage the phone. I've used it so far and nothing has happened. It's probably the same as buying a non standard wall charger, yeah there is a small risk but nothing is likely to ever happen.
I HIGHLY recommend one to solve the battery issue on G1. It is easily the best purchase I've made in years at Best Buy. (I never buy anything at best buy their products suck) It can charge the phone ~3 times for one Call Pod Uno Charge. Call Pod charges rather quickly in 2-3 hours. The call pod Uno is the exact same size as a G1 in height and thickness, I consider that rather small for the boost it gives. It can fit in a pocket if you had to since its the same size as a g1 phone, but you probably wouldn't want to on a regular basis. The Call Pod Uno has a feature that will tell you how much charge it has left by indicator lights that light up, and it will shutdown automatically when nothing is charging in it. It comes with a dongle cable to charge an Iphone or G1, and you get one free cable for any other device from their website with a redeemable coupon.
My only annoyance so far is that the cables they give you are somewhat short so you can't twist the Call Pod around and maneuver it to a better position when charging. Also the cables seem cheap. Finally, don't look at the picture on the box it looks nothing like what the actual product looks like. The picture makes it look black it's silver and the lights aren't as intense as the picture makes it seem. If the color was black and not silver it would be better. Also, the case it comes with sucks.
Think about it though an Iphone charger alone is ~$20 and an g1 charger is too. This includes a g1 charger and the battery and the dongles for only $40. Although it's expensive you get your moneys worth if you think about it that way.
Here:
Pic when you hit button to light it up to see charge two lights indicate half charge.

Yup...thats it!!!!
The pouch is pretty, well, weird, to me. Wish I had it close by to take a pic of it.....
I did notice on mine the cable says TOP on the head of it, but you plug it in with TOP facing the bottom....this makes my G1 sit face up and the Fueltank back up...

Well if you read above. Bestbuy.
Well I will be returning mine, possibly exchange it but not sure, maybe just get my money back...looking up reviews now....
Today i had it plugged in and removed the plug, put the Callpod in my cup holder, than noticed that the connection on the phone was a bit off center, just enough to where the connection wont go in so i can power the phone.
i eventually knocked it (by tapping the unit on my hand) back into place, i can hear a piece of broken plastic moving around inside...it will charge the phone still but if you just touch it it will turn on and off repeatedly..
hopefully its just a faulty unit ( Like i said before, i did notice that the connection was in upside down).
Hope Best Buy has a good return policy because I cant find my receipt.
I would perfer something like this, but as a holster.
I posted a thread a while ago (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554057) about it but I guess it lost its popularity. It's basically the same thing only it's also a holster as well that clips onto your belt or whatever. Pretty neat idea I think.
i like this i saw it on a friends iphone and think it would really cool to have 1 for our phones i vote on it

Docking Station - do you want one?

Lets not leave this section empty.
I have seen a lot of discussion about docking stations and I was wondering how many of you X10 users want/need one. This is a rather neglected market from the manufacturers and it seems not many people use docking stations.
I for one cannot go without one anymore. I used to be sceptical, but the convenience of having your phone upright next to your PC (for example) dispalying all sorts of useful info and getting charged is a must. Especially if the station has a socket for a spare battery.
Thoughts?
I want one on my bed table as a charging station/ alarmclock
How many X10 user are there (25/03/10)?!
I would probably buy one, if it was cheap.
I looked at the HTC docking station which was around £20 and though nah.
A docking station is basically just a holder - like a slot in your table. Waste of money IMO, if you've already got a charger.
It's not a shaver or a toothbrush!
But the usb connector is on the top of the phone... so i think there will not be a docking station...

I don't mind connecting a top piece manually as long as there is a cradle for the phone in a standing position...
Or something like this? in landscape, so is can be a photoframe and clock in one(app). Calling by external speaker.

Id want a docking! I use them all the time. At the office Im only using bluetooth anyway, so Its nice just having the phone standing, so I can see whos calling.
Also great to see time, weather whatever just in front of you!
Im almost embaressed to admit it but I use a small piece of velcro on my phone and in several places it habituates, my desk, nightstand, car. Feels like slumming but remarkably functional and I actually went back to this from a docking station because I prefer it.
Both the Droid and Nexus One have pretty nice docking stations, lets hope Sony puts out something nice. As for the velco idea... interesting, but I would never do that to my desk or my phone.
Hardly notice the little bit of velcro that is on the phone and in the other places not at all. Its all about placement man, I would bet you wouldnt see any of them unless pointed out to you. Most folks are going to see this solution as getto, just pointing out an alternative that is surprisingly effective. Those looking for the gucci dock definetly wouldnt be happy.

Lol'd @ gucci dock .
It's a nice solution, especially for phones that don't have docking stations... or the ones available are ugly/unfunctional.
I wouldn't do it, becasuse I hate the idea, but still +1 for ingenuity.
hopefully one will be released soon! i wanna buy one! maybe a white station for a black x10??
i remember when all pda's and pdaphones used to come with a cradle lol. it is useful, and its a pity if you want one nowadays you have to buy them for ridiculous prices like 40 dollars or something.
i dont think the xperia has any other connectors other than the microUSB, unlike the nexus one which has those cleverly camoflaged contacts.
Well, there's somthin like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPII.dll?ViewItem&item=390163600318
Holder and USB hub, so could be connected with a cable to charge and sync.
This is more or less just a concept. but i think that it could work, and look nice aswell. And it should not be too hard to make one.
I am sorry if the 3D doesn't look that good, but I did just make it rather quickly.. so the textures looks kinda messed up etc.
17 minutes left until I can go to bed.. yey..
i was thinking last night, and just because the charger is on the top that doesn't mean a dock won't work. if there was a dock that the phone could sit sideways in, and an app that waited in the background and detected when the phone was docked (plugged into the usb port and landscape) it could display a landscape digital clock screen, with little icons for missed calls and texts etc...
once my dissertation is handed in in a few months i might have a go at developping my first android app!

Well I think that it could work out with the design I posted 1/2 posts before yours.
With the docking part at the top. where you can "drag" it up and down. press it down when you have placed your phone there.
that way your phone won't fall out for some reason atleast.
I don't really see why it would tho but..

Hey guys I just ordered this and will let you know how I go:
http://wap.ebay.co.uk/Pages/ViewIte...l?ViewItem&item=140460255965&autoredirect=off
It's a case for the Zt-180. I checked and the measurements of the Zt-180 and gtab are very similar. I am fairly sure it will fit and I can see in the pic that the corner loops look to be elastic as well.
It should effectively fit similar to that kindle one others have been buying but the corner loops will be more flexible hopefully meaning that there is no need to cut off one corner like the kindle one.
Hi BAM,
I'd love to know how did it go with your case . I've got the same idea but since you are ahead of me so can i get a bit of feedback please.cheers..
Is it this one?
eBay link: http://cgi.ebay.com/10-Leather-Case...ltDomain_0&hash=item483eb6c286#ht_1763wt_1139
$12.79 with free shipping.
Size: 10.6" x 7.09" x 0.59"
It has a stand built in as well. Since it's not that expensive, I went ahead and bought it, along with this bluetooth keyboard/touch pad combo:
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Rii-Mini-Wi...ltDomain_0&hash=item4cf4a653c5#ht_6664wt_1200
$38 + $10sh, $48 total.
All in all, $60 spent. I also bought two docks from it2steve, I'm planning on setting up one dock on my nightstand, and then another dock in my living room for my tv. Then I could sit on the couch and type/control the tablet using the bluetooth device above. That's my logic at least, we'll see how it plays out.
I can see that set up you have working fine except the HDMI picture quality is lacking. Wish it output a better 1080p image to the screen via the dock. I also wish we can have profiles for the docked and undocked state. Let's say we have a way of automatically disabling the Wi-Fi, Adjust the brightness, enable blue tooth and enabling the HDMI all when in the docked state...now that would be great. But I still do like the dock.
All, remember that the quality of the 1080p playback will depend on the encoding used to create the video on the gTab to begin with. If i remember several posts by Robeet and others, high profile will not work on the Tegra2 CPUs, and we've already condensed the quality of the original to scale down to fit the 10" screen.
If you are expecting the lower quality to be upscaled, I think you'll be sorely disappointed.
I just received this case and so far it's not bad. I like that it hides the buttons on the right that I'm always pressing by accident and getting kicked out of whatever I'm in. The stand is not as sturdy as I'd like but it works. For the price, this is worth it for me.

$12.79 with free shipping.
Size: 10.6" x 7.09" x 0.59"
It has a stand built in as well. Since it's not that expensive, I went ahead and bought it, along with this bluetooth keyboard/touch pad combo:

Well I just bought one of those cases although it looks like it covers the camera port so I may need to do some modifying but great deal nonetheless. Hopefully it fits the tablet snug.

Looks like you got a deal on the keyboard, it's 138.00 now which makes it a deal breaker, to bad it looked like it had potential

Nah its not that case.
I am still waiting on delivery as I bought it through ebay uk and I live in australia. It takes ages for UK items to arrive.
The case I bought has corner loops just like the kindle dx case but from the picture i saw it looks like the corner loops are half elastic hopefully eliminating the issue that the dx owners have had.
The measurements however look almost spot on.
Will definitely update soon. I expect the case to arrive this week. Fingers crossed!
Should look like this:
http://www.digibite.co.uk/ebay_img/10_cases/lc_no2_5 (Small).jpg
BAM
It fits perfectly! Like a glove!
There's no cutting stretching or modifying required. As I suspected the loops are part leather part elastic so it hugs the corners with enough freedom to access everything. Power plug still accessible, USB and sdmicro ok, and nothing else is blocked.
The leather is firm but feels soft. There's a slide in tag rather than a button/buckle to keep it closed. It works well and means your not pressing against the screen.
I'll post up pics in a day or so as I'm cutting into drinking time now.
ZT-180 case
I have an ePad ZT-180 (which died). I think it is the same as the aPad. It came with a leatherette folding case that has a built-in keyboard. It is an exact fit. Not only that but the USB keyboard works with the G-tablet. One of the clamps interferes with access to the USB port but a few nibbles with nibbling tool made a notch big enough for the USB connector an still left it functional for holding the tablet in place. - Jim
does it work as a stand?
No it's just a folio type case not doubling as a stand.
And i've updated the first post with pics to show how it looks.

Sharon Keyboard "case" - Tab Pro 10.1

Hi, I thought I'd share this keyboard I bought. I bought an "VSO Slim Smart Cover" (without keyboard), but as I use my tablet mainly at home, I quickly got frustrated at how bulky it was and abandoned it except for when travelling, but the magnet wasn't strong enough so it would open on its own. Also, I do need to do some proper writing on occasion, but not often enough to justify buying (and carrying around) a laptop. So I found this keyboard that acts as a screen cover, cost me 40 € on Amazon.
Fit is perfect, clips and unclips easily enough and completely protects the screen. The tablet can be propped up, though in portrait mode the weight of the tablet means it won't take much to topple it backwards (but it won't topple on its own). It even comes with a bag to protect you tablet from dust while travelling. It weighs about 225g so it's nice and light, barely more than my previous cover, and recharges via USB. I prefer this to a case with an integrated keyboard because when I'm not using the keyboard, I can just put it aside and use the tablet without it being weighed down by a bulky case.
I was a little disappointed about the key size, which is about 70 % of a PC keyboard. So if you type with 10 fingers it might be a squeeze, but for everyone else I think you can adapt quite quickly, and the keys are proper keys, not like the Microsoft Surface keyboards where you can't feel if you hit the key or not...
Mine is an AZERTY, but of course they make QWERTY.

thanks for the post as i am always looking to improve from the poor selection we have as 10.1 owners. i bought one reviewed in here with a specific Android keyboard which is GREAT for getting things done but since most arent Android keyboards you will really appreciate External Keyboard Helper.
not only does it allow quick launch keys for mail, browser, menu, back, etc... but it also stops the annoying small on screen popup keyboard that can occur.
Am I alone in really not liking cases like these? You can't use it like a tablet with that thing on there because it doesn't hinge to the back, you can't type on your lap because the tablet just sits in a loose slot rather than being attached. It seems to ONLY exist to turn your tablet into a desktop, to put it in a bag and then sit it on a table and type. The tablet attached that thing is completely non-mobile. It's portable, but no longer mobile.

I can't disagree with you more. Yes, like any keyboard, this transforms your tablet into a mini laptop, that's why I bought it. I have no use for a complete cover with integrated keyboard as they are heavier and bulkier. Plus they fully attach to your tablet, they're not meant to be taken off often. So whatever you're doing you have to lug the cover around with it. Sitting in bed reading comics, I have zero use for a cover. Playing angry birds, I have zero use for a cover. Browsing the web, I have zero use for a cover.
This keyboard sits on a shelf when I'm at home, because I have no need for it. But when I'm away from home, it's no heavier than a cover without a keyboard, and protects the screen better than a lot of covers. When I open it up, the keyboard comes away, so I can either choose to use it, to either prop the keyboard up or actually type, or put it back in my bag and just use the tablet. Again, this is no heavier than most of the basic non-keyboard cases, so it's not extra weight. For me, this type of case makes the tablet much more mobile as you get to use the tablet without a case...
So I'm sorry, I don't understand your objections.
You got a link to where you purchased this? Or a model # or anything? I am having an absolute terrible time getting a keyboard for my pro 10.1. I bought the logitech one thinking I might be able to modify it to fit. No luck. I bought a M-Edge Stealth slim case that seemed like it might work great, only to find that the home button ceases to function when in the case. Im just about 20 minutes from returning this tablet.

Well I couldn't see it on the US Amazon site. But here is the one I got (AZERTY) :
http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00I44XXO4/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and I found the UK version here (QWERTY) :

They're made by Leicke, a German company.
