Nobody should be using MKV file to begin with. Its a dead technology that was never and will never be supported by devices.

Sry man but this is kinda stupid.
MKVs have best ratio as a video container (measured by compression and file size) so why do you say its a dead technology even its highly supported by the community?

Smooth Video Playback - Is it even possible on Android?

I'm getting really sick of this.
Android can't seem to play video files smoothly whereas my old WinMo 6.1 device could play them just fine without conversion.
All I want is to be able to convert your run of the mill 350 MB TV show to an MP4 and run it on Android. It seems no matter what I try, I always get choppy video.
What's your strategy for getting this to work? A specific app you use to play or encode, perhaps?
Total video converter gives me no issues
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
I have The Green Hornet on my EVO and it plays perfect.
Rockplayer works well
Rock player does work well

DicePlayer hands down best video player IMO, uses hardware acceleration, plays 720P MKV flawlessly and even heard reports of 1080p with smooth playback.

Well holy crap. Dice Player is fantastic! Not a single hint of lag or choppiness, AND it plays my 350 MB TV shows out of the box with no conversion.
Anyone who wants to give it a try, they have a 3day trial here: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.inisoft.mediaplayer.trial
It's well worth it, I'm buying it today.
Thanks for the tip
I ripped this short film I was an extra in and converted it to MP4. Ran like **** with rockplayer but played fine with the stock video player. Btw here it is if you want to check it out. Give you a hint (I'm RICH *****!).

Thanks. I might be going about this the wrong way.
I just noticed that Win8 has a Windows Phone app. I suppose that it adds support for transfers and conversions. Not sure because I don't have my Lumia 920 yet.

Well done..
Now we can play video in MKV and FLV formats on Windows Phone after installing CCPlayer. Great!
Already paid for the full version!
Excellent application.
The function of playlist and history are fantastic, so, I can take control of the videos that I've seen. This function is essential for video lessons, for example.
It's the only player who managed to address the lack of MX Player (Android). Not completely, but in several parts.
Something that bothers a little, is the slowness of the application, is not excessive, I can use almost normally.
Thanks and congrats for the app!

Does this work on the 5.1.1 alpha v65? Looks cool for GoPro videos

Why not? It modifies app, not system.

As pyler said it should work, because I just modified the vlc app.
Have fun watching your videos in Slow Motion
I appreciate your work very much. Could this be possible with Mx player (popular video Player of Android)?
I know MX player, but it isn't open source, and there is no speed setting included
Vlc has nearly the same features, inluding swiping for brightness etc. Because of that I switched from Mx to VLC .
suggestion
Hello , I do not run android 4.3, you can improve speed allowing the videos of other players , including youtube . I know you can encourage !!!!!!!!
would like ios has an app that is called fast forward cydia .
Greetings and happy new year.
MX player don't need to do Xposed module anymore since new alpha build already have this feature
here is some of their changelog
Supports playback speed control. Speed can be changed on [Menu > Play > Speed] or by swiping up/down with two fingers. This feature is not available with HW decoder before Android 6.

The beta of mx player (https://sites.google.com/site/mxvpen/translation/test-build) does have a speed option!
To use it start a video and follow these steps:
select the "SW decoder" mode
press menu and select "Play" -> "Speed"
This Xposed module is just an addition to vlc, to allow speed changes in vlc!

High Bitrate Video Playback Issue

Just to be clear
My device can perfectly support and play all the HDR10 Content from any streaming sites like;
Netflix, YouTube and others.
My Device
Stock Mate 10 ALP-L29 / Android 9 (EMUI 9)
My Video
MPEG-4 / High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC)
Bit depth: 10 bits / Maximum bit rate: 94.2 Mb/s - Overall bit rate 73 Mb/s
FPS: 59.940 / Resolution 4K (3840X2160)
Issue with
Mate 10 Stock Video Player Version 8.0.9.326
Important Note: The Mate 10 Stock Video Player (or Stock Codec), MX Player (J2 Interactive) and the Videolabs (VCL for Android) gives you Actual Colors from the Video you are playing but
Problem: *After a few seconds of playtime, the app lag and unwatchable.

Screenshot: Left Picture, is for Stock Video Player, MX Player and VCL Player that lag or crashes. Right Picture, are other 3rd Party Apps that play but degraded.
Below are the Video Applications that I tried to play the High Quality File like HDR Video in which
Important Note: Can play a High Quality Video
Problem: But doesn't display the Actual Colors from the real HDR Videos also the App seems to downgrade the video playback.
*Pandora. TV - Video Player HD
*InShot Inc. - Video Player All Format
*HashTech Studio - 4K Video Player
*FIPE Labs - FX Player
*GOM Player - GOM Player
If you know a way to play the File, please comment down below. I badly need it.
Thank you.
Have you tried MX Player?
Also, please share the video link so I can try it on my end.

I just tried the MX Player an hour ago.
The result is the same with Stock Mate 10 Video Player and Videolabs VCL Player in which gives you an accurate color
but after a few seconds it stop playing or lag then crash till the last seconds of the video.
Click this link to download the Video File that I used. File size : 724 MB
So I tried the video.
Stock player freezes every few seconds.
It works and looks perfect with MXPlayer but only with HW+ decoding. SW or regular HW either lag and/or don't support HDR.
