Overheat - Battery Drain - Strange Behavior - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Has anyone else had any problems similar to the below? I've had my phone for about 6 weeks and its been fine apart from the standard issues others are having, it''s not rooted and apart from maybe 10 apps installed is as it arrived.
Today I noticed it was exceptionally warm in my pocket (Top shirt pocket not trouser) to the point where I was getting worried, when I checked the screen it had used about 50% battery in less than 2 hours! So I checked what was rinsing the battery and it reported Android OS, the screen and phone idle all as top players.
I decided to reboot to see if that stopped it getting hot, still the same used another 25% battery in 30 minutes. Shut down took battery out rebooted still draining the battery and getting hot.
At this point the strange behavior started when the phone rebooted it said I had 5 missed calls and a text message. Checked missed calls non there, tried to read text message and it wasn't there but the notification was still at the top so I accessed the message from there and replied. Went back to message inbox still no message locked screen and still reports 5 missed calls that are not in the call log!!!!
Battery has now died and it's only been on a few hours!
The getting hot thing has worried me more than anything as the phone wasn't doing anything......anyone got any ideas please?

Restore factory settings or use the pc suite to repair the phone.

yeah, i experience it too... n my phone goes crazy, constantly vibrates.. back key n menu key also go crazy.. they activate automatically..
have a look at this...

I also had a battery problem. It was the facebook application that caused the trouble. I deleted all the facebook's data, and today I have no more problem

Thank you for all your replies, I tried resetting the phone settings and that made no difference at all so I did a factory reset...........just spent the last few hours re-installing everything and setting everything up .
The battery performance has gone back to normal but I think the phone is definately running hotter than it was, I can actually feel it in my shirt pocket now whereas before I could just feel the weight of it.
Total newbie question I know but now the phone seems to be running normally again is there a way to back it up exactly as it is? I.e. keeping all my K9 mail settings, installed apps etc etc, it's taken hours to put it all back and I don't fancy doing it again.

i think this have been fixed by a Touchpad Calibration update by service centers since late last month.
anyone can confirm this? i am about to get a 'grey market' phone that have the exact same problem. if the calibration will have it fixed, then i'm going to get it for sure

yea u can even install astro file manager from android market which helps keeping your application ..

Not much activity here eh?
I just want to find out if the touch screen unresponsiveness, overheating, and crazy menu/back button behavior has been resolved by the touchpad calibration done by SE service centers? Is there a way we can resolve, or update the touchpad drivers ourselves?
Thanks in advance!

Please help! HTC HD2 keeps rebooting (soft reseting) out of it own

I don't know what the heck is going on with my HTC HD2, but the reboots are getting quite annoying.
Furthermore i noticed it happens when i utilize the cpu heavily.
Mostly with streaming video or playing games.
Have done multiple hard resets, rom updates and even custom roms but nothing seems to work.
Sometimes my phone even reboots(soft resets) after watching 5 whole seconds of youtube
So even directly after a hard reset the problem persists.
I'm totally confused right now(because i have tried everything i could do to fix this problem).
I am thinking could it be the battery not giving enough juice for the task? overheating ? or just faulty hardware?
what do you guys think?
because i noticed that the problem is happening more frequently over time.
Edit: it rebooted even in idle a moment ago (1th time) ???
Similar issue with youtube freeze and reset
I can validate your frustration. I am having problems with my HD2 freezing up as well and doing a soft reset on it's own. So the YouTube app opens up the HTC player and then it will play a few seconds and then freeze up. I also opened an MP4 movie file and view it with the HTC player and that also froze it. Last but not least, I have TomTom and that froze it after 15 minutes last night.
I have seen some postings that Tmobile and HTC will be releasing a new rom to fix some memory leaking issues so perhaps that might be it.
It started happening about a week ago for me. Please post any solutions you might find.
I am on:
OS v.5.2.21889
Mania v.2.5.20121412.1
ROM v.2.10.531.1 WWE
Radio v. 2.08.50.08.2
I have done some trail and error, played around with coreplayer and i noticed that when i set the video quality to FLV medium quality in the buildin youtube app in coreplayer i won't reboot that quick anymore, but after a couple of seconds it will eventually still reboot. If i set quality to high quality/high bandwidth i will reboot much faster (so this let's me think about some kind of memory leak/buffer overflow).
Furthermore luckly i don't have any problems with playing mp4 videos in coreplayer, i have tested this especially because of the youtube reboots, and it will keep playing for 1,5 hour without any problems, so maybe you could try coreplayer and see if that's a solution for your mp4 problem ?
But eventually it would be nice if these problems where sorted out so that the device will work like it is supossed to be
Already tried a TASK29 and a flashing a stock ROM from your SD card?
Ye, have tried task 29 (between each roms, i do use task to make sure that the phone is empty.) and when i went back to my 1.72 stock rom i did flash it from SD, but still no luck.
this happened to me today as i was logging onto the net. it did a full master reset.
Same thing happened to me after the unit froze. I pulled the battery, put it back in an it went into this continuous loop of starting up, going through the first couple of screens and then rebooting. What I eventually found to be the problem was that I had inadvertently bent one of the battery pins when I put the battery back in, not much but just enough to where it wasn't making contact. After I carefully straightened it out the issue was gone and it fired up as usual. I love simple fixes, of course this was after I task 29'd and reflashed which didnt correct the problem.

hmm i only got the problem while i'm watching streaming video through 3g and on usb > active sync > pc data connection / some (cpu intensive) games
with wifi no problems at all, it plays youtube for more then a hour without a reboot, and i tested it multiple times to make sure), and booting is just fine without a single hickup

Hey, thank you @thompsd. This was driving me crazy on my phone. I finally took it back to a TMobile store for replacement and they put me on the phone with support before they would issue a replacement. Of course I was bewildered when they had me take out the battery and put it back in (which I had done a zillion times) and the phone suddenly worked. The person on the phone told me that it was fixed because I had to keep the battery out for at least 90 seconds. This made absolutely no sense, but it was hard to argue with success. I walked out of the store with my head hung low in shame.
Tonight, sitting in an airport lounge waiting for a flight, I noticed that my phone was hung so I pulled the battery to reset it. When I put the battery back in and started it, the phone went into the reboot loop -- displaying the boot screen for a couple of seconds and then shutting down and rebooting. I pulled the battery for 90 seconds. 120 seconds, 5 minutes. No joy. Realizing that this solution made absolutely no sense in the first place, I decided to search around again.
I found your reply in this thread and looked at my battery contacts. One of them was bent. I straightened it out, put the battery back in and the phone booted right up. Now I realize that when I was on the phone with TMobile, I must have put the battery back in that one time in such a way that inadvertently straightened the pin.
Hi all,
I have (maybe) the same problem with my HD2 i.e. when it is "doing something", well not idle, it sometimes restarts itself and then usually will not get out of the cycle of crash/reboot untill I remove the battery and wait for a few minutes before starting it again.
This is always more frequent if I am using a serious application such as sat nav. It also has only happened when the unit is connected to power, either on my desk or in the car (different power sources), but disconnecting it from the power after the cycle has started doesn't help.
I have assumed from the symptoms that it is caused by overheating and so leaving it switched off for a period allows it to cool.
I have got a return packet from Vodafone to send it for repair but I am loath to do this as it is likely to take 10 days and I suspect I might either get a recon unit back or "no fault found".
Does anyone think this could be battery related? If so I would buy a 2nd battery and test it.
Cheers, Gordon
I can confirm having the same problem.
Using BattClock (which shows a.o. the battery temperature) I was able to establish that the resets and reset loops happen once the battery temperature exceeds 31-32°C.
Contacted HTC support and received reply that the phone qualifies for repair.
PS. My wife just suggested providing me with a cooler bag, so I can enjoy reset-free phone during summer heatwave...
I had similar behavior, but it was due to the new ROM release (4/28/10). I loaded the official T-Mobile release date ROM (2/19/10) and the problem went away.

Yesterday my battery charge got very low and shut the phone down. When I turned the phone back on without charging it kept rebooting time after time. I tried plugging the charger in but that didn't help. I took out the battery and put it back in and that still didn't help. I finally caught it when it was rebooting and pressed volume down and got the phone in bootloader to at least stop the constant rebooting. I left the phone on the charger and after about 1/2 hour I pulled the battery and put it back in and the phone was fine.
I am not wanting this to happen again. Maybe I will go back to an older ROM.
if i have some luck i will receive my phone tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.
i will let you know what has been repaired and if this solved the reboot problem.
today i received my phone back from the repair center.
The repair letter says that the display has being changed because it was not functioning anymore? (but when i sent the phone in the display was working like it should).
And the youtube problem is still there
Im having the same problem! i figure it was the battery overheating...or the rom or even probably a not compatible radio.....try to change all of these and is still restarting when ever it tries to connect to any data or internet usage. Ex. youtube, downloading of files from the internet, Remote Desktop even Microsoft My Phone still restarts.
even when i used to make/receive phone calls it would restart as soon as i picked it up to talk. but for this i had a solution witch as of now is working fine with out a problem.
if anybody else has this problem with the Receiving/making calls this should work.
1. Go to: Start/Settings/Connections
2. is the "TASK" tab choose "Manage Existing Connections"
3. In the "Modem Tab" has for options to choose from, normally is on "Auto", this was the problem. you would want to get it OFF AUTO.
4. Try all the other " voice Stream options Shown" and see witch one works for you without giving problems, and save. Im currently using "wap.voicestream.com." witch is the second option after Auto.
Well i hope this works for you guys if ur having similar problems, its actually work for me. GooD luck! hope this helps.

Screen randomly turns on at night and stays on for hours!

So I got my x10 like 3 weeks ago, and I usually leave it to charge overnight, but the last 2 nights It had sufficient charge left so I kept it besides my bed, the first time it happened I didn't get up on time and was late for work cause my alarm couldn't go off cause my battery was dead! I remember clearly when I went to bed at 12:30 it was at 55 or so percent, and when I woke at 9 it was dead. (My alarm was set at 7:30 so it was dead before that). This was quite surprising to me as otherwise it runs fine throughout the day. The next day i kept it at 80% charge at 1 am and when I woke up at 7:30 it was at 66.so it did drain a lot but not as much. I had installed juiceplotter and according to that, there was some network usage around 2:30 to 3:15 or so (i'm guessing the yellow line indicates data usage?) and one thing I noticed was from 4:30 to 7:30 the SCREEN WAS ON! (Acc to the blue line). So I'm wondering what could be the cause of this rude awakening . I looked into the partial wake status and it showed facebook as the highest since boot. Could it be that? I'm using the latest facebook app. Also is there any app that can monitor the systems activity? Say what started when, for how long, how much cpu, screen on etc so I could determine that if it happens again.
I read about others having this problem. I'm sure what the conclusion to that thread was but for me my screen only comes on when I have a scheduled back up with backup and restore. It comes on and stays on until the back up is complete, unless of course I turn it off manually. I think this is also the case for Titanium Backup but don't quote me on that.
Well it could not be the backup app doing it because I don't have any backups scheduled... I dont have titanium backup installed too...
I have the same problem. Not so much a problem though as I charge the phone @ night anyway. What causes it however, I don't know. I don't have scheduled backups running. Come to think of it.. I only had this problem when I had a live wallpaper set (I think). Since a few days I'm running froyo 2.2 rom/static wallpaper and didn't have this problem so far. So perhaps it's (live)wallpaper related (which I seriously doubt), or ROM related. I was running Nordic ROM 2.1 before.
I've also noticed this. No apps running and randomly the screen comes on. Sorry I can't be of any help but it's not just you...
Well I do have a feeling that it could be the facebook app doing it, can't be certain though. I'm judging by the partial wake usage stats, well It could also be 'Android system' but I don't know what would be waking the phone up from sleep like this and leaving the screen on for hours!
Like I asked earlier, is there any app that can monitor all activity on android?Like apps starting at what time and ending etc, so I could use his in conjunction with juiceplotter to narrow down the culprit?
wow guys, not sure what this is. but i did a google search and heres what turned up.
http://androidforums.com/incredible-support-troubleshooting/141868-screen-randomly-turns.html
http://forum.androidcentral.com/motorola-droid-x/49298-screen-randomly-turns.html ; this ones interesting to say the least
x10 specific:
http://androidforums.com/sony-ericsson-xperia-x10/240479-screen-wont-time-out-comes-randomly.html
And I think this program might help you:

Mentioning what Android (1.6, 2.1) version you have and what model of x10(i,a) might help as well.
Hope that helps. Can anyone with this problem confirm if its just stock or also rooted and flashed devices?
i got no idea when it comes screen randomly turns on. but the facebook app might be the cause (im still guessing). because data traffic consume alot of your battery, considering retreive and send data too much. i have my data traffic turned off in case i want to go bed, and take it easy just turn on when you need to use internet

Well went through those threads earlier, but they didn't seem very helpful.
I'm on android 2.1 btw on an x10i. Well I can safely say that it didn't happen last night so I'll check again tonight to see if it does, if not then its just a random occurrence

Is something wrong? New 4.0 player getting hot + massive battery drain after 3 days

I think something's gone wrong with my player, but I'm not sure because I'm new to these types of devices. In any event, here goes: three days ago I got a brand new Samsung Galaxy player. Because it was new, I basically used it to death on the first day exploring all the features, setting up accounts, downloading a few apps, etc. With that amount of heavy usage, I got 5 hours worth of battery life-- YouTube, Angry Birds, GPS, wifi, typing, browsing the net, radio station, downloading apps, snapping pictures, transferring/playing media files, etc.
Then the battery went low, so I recharged. Having gotten everything out of my system, I started using the player casually. I thought, "If I used the player insanely the first day and got 5 hours of it, I'm bound to get at least 8-10 hours now."
Nope. Battery drain became massive-- at the most I got 2 1/2 hours before the battery went low. Charged it again. Not only was the massive drain still there, but now something new developed-- the unit started becoming hot to the touch after a few minutes. I hoped it was just a temporary problem, but nope, the problem remained, getting worse when I would type.
I also had some weird stuff happen the second day I used the player. I got a "bootup screen" when powering the unit back on. Later that same day I got the "Downloading... please do not turn off target!" screen with the yellow Android robot sign.
On my third day, things seemed to go from bad to worse, to the point where at times I would lose 1% of battery power every 1-2 minutes just playing one mp3 song or switching on radio. In fact, in one instance just 3 minutes after powering up the device I would go from 100%-97%.
I Googled myself silly about this and tried everything to no avail--uninstalled all 3rd party apps, factory reset, turned syncing off and avoided wifi like the plague (stats for battery usage never went above 5%). I double and tripled checked my stats. Battery stats would only show a handful of about 6 basic apps running at any given time, each having between 1-10% of usage at the most, with the display always using the battery the most (between 55-89%).
I don't know if this means that the display is the culprit, but if it is, something's wrong because it's set to "automatic brightness" and I also have "power save mode" on.
In any event, no matter what I do now, I'm lucky to get 2 hours on this player. Remember, it's only a few days old. I'm wondering if there's something I missed in troubleshooting this issue or maybe there's something faulty and I need to return it?
Thanks.
Download easy battery saver from google play i had the same problem and my battery increased alot my settings are
Advance mode: lock & unlock is checked WiFi is checked brightness and battery saving brightness is checked and sleep schedule is also checked
You should also install easy task manager and use the widget both combined work great

I suppose you haven't rooted your device or installing any custom ROM, right? If that's correct, seeing download mode when rebooting sound odd to me.
When your device is heating up, that means some apps are running wild and using lots of cpu. What I can suggest is to boot into recovery (power+vol up+home) and perform a factory reset there.
If that still doesn't work, you may need to return it.
Thanks for your response, guys...
j21098, I'll try what you suggested and come back later with the results. But I can't download any apps right now because the battery has once again gone low... it only lasted around 2.15 hours this time. *sigh*
WT Ho... No, I did not root the player and I did the factory reset both ways-- in the player itself and the Vol+Power Button thing. That's why I was unnerved by the Downloading Target thing... I hadn't downloaded or done anything.
Incidentally, after making my post, I tried using the player with head phones in the entire time and that seemed to have resolved some of the heating issues. That's weird, because it's not like I've been using the speakers to play hours and hours of music at 100 decibels. I had them on just to navigate through the screens/ surf the web, play Angry Birds (now uninstalled), and type.
And the entire first day I had the player I used speakers to play an hour or so of YouTube with no heating issues. But now just five minutes of merely clickity clacking on the keyboard and the thing turns into a toaster. Is it normal for speakers to cause that much overheating?
In any event, I'm currently waiting for the player to charge up so I can download the apps that j21098 and let you know what happened. Thanks for your responses once again. I'll be back.
Thanks!
Hi, guys! I'm back!
I wound up figuring out the problem. A lot of the overheating seemed to have come from the little vibration the player makes when you tap the screen or use the keyboard. Using the speakers too much seems to contribute to battery drain but not as badly as the vibration. I turned off that setting and now everything seems to be okay.
P.S. Thanks for the great advice about managing energy levels/ factory resetting, anyway. I definitely will be using the app to manage CPU usage and now know how to "factory reset" using the buttons (as opposed to using the menu).

[Q] MoPho overheating and turning off on CM9

I am having an issue with my MoPho severely overheating and shutting off. But strangely it only seems to happen when I am outside. The first time I noticed it was when I went fishing. My phone had about 80% charge, and when I picked it up maybe 30 mins later is was scorching hot. To the point that it burnt me. And it had shut off. I didn't have it in the sun or anything. It was in the shade inside a bag. I was not able to get it to turn on even with a battery pull even after it had cooled down. The battery completely drained in a matter of minutes. I couldn't even get it to charge in the truck on the car charger, either. It got too hot on the charger to the point it wouldn't even get a charge. This has happened about 3 or 4 times since. It will go from a full battery, get super hot, and completely drain within minutes. This never used to happen in the house, it was only an issue outside. until today. Went fishing, phone had full charge. It managed to hold the battery for a couple hours, unlike the other times, but eventually got hot and died. Then when I got home, plugged it into the charger and went to sleep, woke up a couple hours later and it was burning hot, and had no charge. Other things on it are acting weird now, as well. The screen keeps turning on and off every few seconds by itself. I don't know what the issue is, but I might have to switch back to stock if I can't find a solution. Because eventually this is going to fry my phone. And I don't want that to happen. It is also a huge inconvenience for your phone battery to drain in a matter of minutes and become a useless paperweight when you are in the middle of nowhere and need a form of communication in an emergency.
Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution?

Many people have experienced overheating problems on our cm9. Some people including self have fixed it by just doing a fresh install of cm9 as it seems like just a fluke. Im sure the fact that were running a gingerbread kernel on ics doesnt help. Also, try dropping the battery down to 1200 from the stock 1300, see if that helps.

Someone mentioned changing the overclock from the stock 1300 down to 1000 in another thread. Is that the same thing as what you're talking about? Or is there a separate setting for the battery? I did try dropping it down to 1000 but that's when the screen started turning on and off by itself. And LWP's stopped working properly. They would get stuck and seizure. Even after I changed it back to the default 1300. So I went into CWM and just reflashed the ROM. No more screen turning on and off or LWP's acting weird. But as far as the overheating problem I can't be sure I guess until I go fishing again or put it in another situation in which it's done it previously.

I work outside every day and its bout 100 degrees out consistantly now... I'm not running cm9 anymore but I've noticed I still get the occasional overheat while its in my pocket, it most definitely gets annoying sometimes having to pull the battery and let everything cool down but I think the benefits outweigh the annoyance level a million to one. I guess what I'm saying is you're not alone friend, it definitely happens to me as well. I have my CPU set to 1k though and messed around with undervolting as well and feel like I get a little better results this way. Keep playing with your settings until you find the one that works best for you is the advice I can give. Good luck!

Even after I changed it back to the default 1300. So I went into CWM and just reflashed the ROM. No more screen turning on and off or LWP's acting weird. But as far as the overheating problem I can't be sure I guess until I go fishing again or put it in another situation in which it's done it previously.

Yeah its the same thing. Remember, our processor is technicallynot supposed to be over 1000 per core for a reason. People just like to push things to the edge. The whole lwp problem is expected and everyone experiences this with the our ice roms. That also is due to lack of proper 2d libs. But I'm glad most of your problems have subsided. Run your processor at 1000 and I'm sure the overheating will lessen. On a powerful dualcore phone like the photon 1300 from 1000 is miniscule anyway.

Alright. I will try it again. But I just love my LWP's =[ I always have a lwp on. I have never experienced the problem with the lwps until I set the processor to 1000. But I guess it comes down to sacrificing my wallpaper to stop it from overheating. If that's what it takes to fix the problem. Hopefully once the stable version is released everything will work like it should without having to sacrifice anything.
It did overheat again the other day. I did have Watchdog on my phone and I was on facebook messenger the other morning and it started acting up, I had my phone in my hand and within a couple minutes it got burning hot, and then right after, Watchdog popped up with a notification that messenger was above threshhold. It was running at 49% CPU or something. And come to think of it I would always get notifications about fb messenger "misbehaving". So I came to the conclusion that it could be either messenger or watchdog causing most of my problems. I deleted watchdog to see if it fixes my problems. I'm hoping it isn't messenger. Because I need my FB. lol. But I haven't really used messenger on my phone since I deleted watchdog. So we'll see. If that didn't solve it, then I will sacfrifice my lwp and set the processor back to 1000.

Fb messenger gets a lot of hate, i cant say thats your problem but you never know. Try out a chat client called imo from the play store instead. It supports fb as well as others and is leaps and bounds better than fb messenger.

Thank you. I will definitely try that =] Thank you. I really hope it fixes the problem. I can't wait for the stable release. haha

Sudden major battery drain

My wife's Rezound (.605, ClearnROM 4.5) has been stable for weeks and weeks. Then, in the last 72 hours or so, it suddenly started ripping through its battery in minutes -- fully charged to dead in 90-180 minutes, even if the phone is just sitting on a desk, untouched, screen off. There doesn't appear to be anything running in the background to account for the drain (no Facebook or anything like that).
Any ideas? Really don't want to have to return it to stock, exchange it with VZW as defective, go through setting up a new one.
Thanks in advance...
a silly question but have you tried to over clock or under volt it recently?

best thing to do is go into settings and see what has been using the phone. Go into apps, too and see what has been running.. Finally, an app like better battery stats can really help you see what is killing it.
Often in cases like yours, its a recently updated app that is keeping the phone awake for some reason.

No to overclocking or undervolting. Haven't really had the need to do either since moving off our Droid Xs some months ago. But that was a good thought.
The screen appears to be what's killing the phone. For some reason, it keeps setting itself for Sleep/Never, meaning the screen is on all the time. The last time spent changing that setting seems to be working. Not sure why it keeps toggling back to that setting. May have to reset the phone, reload a ROM and see if a fresh start makes a difference...
