Harry Potter, you need to go to your contacts and find someone who's online. Longpress their name and hit "Skype video call".

You need to go to your settings in your skype app to enable video calling because by default its disabled

Once you've updated to the latest version of Skype. Open it up and press the menu button on your tab and click settings and navigate to the button to enable video calling.

it does work. However at the start after installing, ut mentioned it doesn't recognise this device, and there is one annoying bug.. Keeps showing Skype signed in at the bottom right corner where it blocks the digital clock.. But it doesn't happen al the time...

I think this is the major differentiation over the KF due to presence of microphone and one of the guys who owns a rooted table should try this out, so that others can decide

I use his Skype apk with a Motorola H700 bluetooth headset.
Works for me
It seems to be working fine for me.
Have only done one voice call tho. Chat is fine. Not sure which apk - i just google for one and installed it. I dont have the full market installed yet - been ableto find apk's for apps I use.

Does Skype recognize an internal microphone?
I've heard there is a problem:
"I had no problem installing the Skype app or logging into my account. But the app wouldn’t recognize the NOOK Tablet’s Microphone, which means it’s impossible to make voice calls. You can only use Skype as an instant messenger app on the NOOK Tablet."

I've got the latest Skype running but it has issues. It can send IM's without issue but voice phonecalls are buggy. When making an outgoing call to someone on a contact list the call is established but then drops immediately, and then an incoming call from the person you rang suddenly appears even though they didn't call you. For a while I had it answer a call and apparently seem to maintain it but on the Nook I couldn't hear the remote party - Skype seemed to be confused with the nofification volume and the media volume. When the notification volume was all the way down it muted the incoming sound completely. When the notification volume was up, that's when I couldn't get it to maintain a call. Very weird. Not really usable.
That was my experience anyway, would be interested in seeing what other people find with various versions.
Can you check which version of skype you are using so I can try it. The latest doesn't seem to recognize the microphone.

OK, so I thought I'd try this again and its a no go?! I had tested it initially with my wife's computer and she answered the call etc. Now it also drops calls as soon as picked up. My version is a "raider" version for this forum somewhere and not the lastest but a link for ppl having issues. Non the less, it's not working now
Which apk?
The android market says it is incompatible. I got an apk on the net, but it insisted on a mobile phone number.
It looks good, signs in and calls out but drops the call after about two rings. Does Skype need gps? I was thinking that if we could get a gps spoof running that might do it.
I was calling a landline which I had control of and it even rang so I'm close. I can tether to the gps on my phone but that defeats the purpose. I suppose I could do that to see if it's what skype wants.
actual apk

Wasn't sure I had it still - I have "com.skype.raider2-1.2.apk" in my downloads.
I've reinstalled it and it is acting the same as what i had installed.
Sorry I didn't keep more detail, but because it seemed to work, I didn't think much of it. I imagine now that I've done lots of other downloads, mods etc, something must of messed it up.
The most major one since then would have be the multi keyboard stuff. Either that or it was just a fluke that it worked. My wife is my participating witness tho
---------- Post added at 07:54 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:25 AM ----------
OK, a little more digging reveals two files. The raider2 one mentioned above and one named "Skype_2.0.0.47_v06.apk".
I tried to attach them but they are both over 9megs and the limit is 8M.
Having a gps signal didn't help. My theory was that Skype needed a location so that it billed properly.
Currently calls drop after two rings (which make it to the line being called) and advanced settings cause a force close.
It's too bad. being able to make the occasional call would really make this an even better vacation device for out of your home country.
---------- Post added at 09:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:23 AM ----------
A little bit of progress. The apk from this post rings the other number until connection then drops. Advanced settings still FC.

If you are asking for the Skype version, it's 2.6.501.97. If you need the apk file number.... uh, I'm still pretty new to android and even tho I can build and hack a pc, I'm having trouble naving my NT. I'm still looking for the file and I'll post it when I stumble over it.
Okay, I give up. How do I sent a chat message to someone? I can't find anywhere in Skype that has that option. Whenever I click on a contact, I only have the option to call them.
Anyone have any updates on this?
I was wondering if they figured something out on the CM7 beta testing, but haven't found info related to skype/google calls.

[Q] Google Talk Video on UnNamed 2.1.1

I'm trying to use video chat with Google Talk running UnNamed and the users on the other end are unable to see me. I've tried this from 2 different accounts/users and pc's and the result is the same. Audio is there, I can see them but from their end it's just displaying both of our avatars. I've also noticed that there is a lock icon in my window preview.
Has anybody been able to video chat using google talk on UnNamed?

Okay, Gtalk on UnNamed works only on wifi, unless you have enabled it such as Market application GTalkEnabler or various other methods that asks you edit some files to enable it, in oredr to work on 3g/4g.
Once you have installed GtalkEnabler, click on the app and there will be a check box against " Allow 3g/4g Gtalk Video Chat" and check that, and it should work, This is how I made it work.
Some Custom ROMs come with Gtalk pre-enabld, but somehow GTG decided not to activate it somehow, I don't know why.
In Marrket, look for "Enable Video Chat over 3g/4g".
Thanks guys i'm not sure why it's not working. It doesn't even work over wifi. I know I had used it before I flashed to from stock rom and it had worked. I was just curious if anyone else was having trouble since I couldn't find any threads up on here about it.
Thanks again for confirming it does indeed work, i was finally able to track it down to end user problem on pc clients. Must have finally goggled the right terms and found a google lab called "Video Chat Enhancement" and once having them enable that I can chat with them again.
No problem with UnNamed at all!

[Q] Skype video on S3?

I cannot get video to work on Skype on my S3. Video is enabled in Skype Settings but still no joy. Has anyone else got this problem or know how to fix it? I can't find any thread about this. This is a deal breaker for me. If Skype doesn't work I will reluctantly return the S3 during my 14-day trial period.
Thanks
Works fine here. Just tested video calling 3G and WiFi with no problems.
Finger trouble or firmware version?
Skype v2.8.0.920
Edit:
The other party (Recipient) must also have video enabled.
You could also lower the video quality and test.

works fine here as well.
Thanks for the replies. Still a mystery. I have the latest firmware and the other party definitely has video enabled. I switched to other devices and it worked fine. The front camera does work but there's no option to select when I make a Skype call (over WiFi). If the other party calls me I can see the options but it still doesn't work and returns to a black screen. Lower-res test done as well but no luck.
I just can't see what's preventing a video call. I can do this quite successfully from my tablet, old phone and desktop but not the S3. I have uninstalled and downloaded the software again but it still doesn't work. Grrrrr!
Try a video call on Gtalk to test. Obviously check video is enabled in its settings for both parties.
If working, try wipe data/cache in settings/applications/downloaded or all/Skype. You well need to setup Skype settings, login etc again.
If still no good, reinstall Skype
Sent from my GT-I9300T using xda premium
I did clear the cache. And one other thing: I can't close Skype. I have to use a Force Stop to quit the application. I've tried this several times and it always remains running unlike any other program I close (eg, swiping to the left from the running programs list). It doesn't show up in the task manager as a running program but the icon is still there on the top left of the phone. I wonder if some other process/application is interfering with it.
It's reassuring that Skype is working for others. I'm on O2 - could they have set up something to prevent Skype working? That's not my experience with other phones from O2 and I doubt that is the problem.
So did you try Gtalk (to confirm the problem is just with the Skype app) and also reinstall fresh from Google Play?..........

Thanks, I'll check them out.
I've got what seems to be a fairly simple problem with Skype, so I thought I'd post here because Skype users are likely to read it ! :
Outgoing voice-only calls seem to work OK, but when I answer an incoming call, the GS3 screen goes completely black (regardless as to whether the phone was by my face or not).
I tried pressing buttons etc, didn't seem to be able to get it back until the caller hung up.
On a plus note, the call quality was great, but I really do need to be able to hang up the call!
Am I missing something obvious?
According to my tests, Skype video works when I'm connected to WiFi but I was never able to do the same under 3G.
I'm on a high bandwidth connection..but the person on the other side keeps saying that the video quality is ****ty. I have the Video Qualty setting on 'High'. The recieving quality is just great. Its only the video sent from my end. Is it the same for everyone? or just me?

I'm not sure. Do you have TWRP installed?
Yes my phone is rooted and unlocked for all sim networks and I have a twrp instaled
Then I wouldn't imagine it would hurt anything to try it. Just make sure you make a backup first. I'ts uploading now
I'll try to have a Beta2 up later this week
Beta3 built and gonna test it today. Hopefully the dialer nag is fixed. I'm planning for a beta3 release tonight.
Good job man
I can confirm the dialer nag is fixed. Trying to incorporate it into the rom with out having to install it seperately in TWRP. Hopefully I'll still have Beta3 up tonight. If not, tomorrow
I've got some good things in store for beta4. Not exactly Quick Charge, but a mod that will charge the phone a heck of alot better than it does stock. A simple Advanced Power Menu, re-added Google Assistant now that I got "Ok Google" funtioning again.
Beta4 Built and everything is working great!! Not a single issue on my end. Will upload when I get a response from someone who has given it a go or some type of feedback. Am I wasting my time sharing guys?

I'm using Beta1 and it's going great to be honest, no problem, camera is perfectly working, Fast, stable, battery life is good. (I'd like to continue having TCT camera in Beta4 and so on)
I'm glad to hear it's being used, I was afraid I was the only one. I've been using Open Camera, I found it to be superior in all regards to the stock camera. Give Beta4 a shot, if you don't like the open camera, I'll upload a build just for you with the stock camera in it. I personally am sticking with open camera though. I've done alot and learned alot since beta1.
Okay, I installed it on my 6055B and it worked fine, but the call-making app does not work right.
When you call someone, nothing appears on the screen(but the call is made), and when you receive a call you do not receive the notification(but receive the "missed call" notification).
I would be grateful if you could fix this as soon as possible, as I can not find the original rom on my cell phone anywhere.
If there were any typos please let me know, I translated it with Google Translate :crying::crying::crying:
It's not broken, it's in the instructions how to get it working.
-Open your phone settings
- Go to apps
-Click the little circle gear at the top right next to the three vertical dots
-Go under Advanced and into Default apps
-Under Phone App, select Phone and you should be good to go.
You can also go under App permissions and set those according to whatever you need as well. What I posted above will get your calls to show. Thanks for trying the rom and let me know how you like it.

Question Fake Mic access?

Mic access QS is fake, Can anyone explain what is this?
Doesn't look like the native recording app on my Pixel 6, don't even know for sure what phone he's using. So he's inferring that the mike is still working for that app at least when it is marked as blocked in the shortcut. I just trried to duplicate this on my phone using the stock recorder app and the mic was indeed blocked correctl;y. It is also blocked correctly from phone calls. I found that out yesterday when someone called me and they couldn't hear me.
So, what is this? Either he's found a way around the mic access block, or it''s a faked video. Since the display doesn't show any waveforms on the "playback" , I'm calling fake video.

I thought your question was about the permission but just now I saw it clearly that you just canceled and it records voice on WhatsApp. Go to phone settings and apps -> WhatsApp -> permission and change mic to not allow! Then restart your device and see if you get the same problem.

The "Mic Access QS" should be blocking the mic permission for the whole device even if the permission is enabled for specific app.
