[Q] pondering - Viewsonic ViewPad 7 & Variants

While using my vpad 7 as a phone, yes I actually held it to my ear, I was pondering what the indentations are by the speakers, they don't seem to have any function other than to collect dust and dirt, I have a use for them if there nothing more than notches in the case

[Q] Cleaning with water?

Quick question: Is it okay to clean the entire phone using a damp cloth? Will it ruin the oleophobic coating or mess up the capacitive touchscreen?
Thanks.
Damp cloth is fine as long as you don't let water get into the home button, speaker, microphones, headphone jack, USB port and buttons. Personally, I'd just clean the glass area and at the edges, use a dry cloth. Oh yeah, I'd use microfibre cloth only as it cleans better while requiring less rubbing.
I'd say using water is the only thing you should use, no chemicals what so ever.
I personally scrub the galaxy under running tap water every day. It does tend to get very hot when I do so so and emits purring noises.
I assume this means it enjoys the procedure and in fact it often takes a break immediately afterwards.

Just flash a custom rom for HTC
I actually use for screen a small bottle of water with a small amount of vinegar in it . Screen as in TFT and any similar screen microfibre cloth barely damped never damaged any screen over five years .

Dust protection for speakers

Got my ONE on launch day, today it is on it's way to a repair facility to have the speakers replaced.
I own a wrought iron fabrication business and absolutely need my phone on me for calls. Not a single pocket is safe from what I can see.
I'm about 99% sure they will be full or iron dust. I've been hunting all over the web looking for a mesh fabric tape or cover I can put over the speakers. The holes in the grill are just too big and allow too much in.
Anyone know of any thing that can be used. if there a lifeproof case out there that makes the phone water and dust proof??
I'm at the point where i'm considering selling it and grabbing the Sony Z.
Nothing?
I'm using medical tape now..
As for the protecting the speakers, I go nothing. All I can suggest is otterbox defender but that doesn't protect the speakers either.
There can only be one, the chosen ONE.
clean it out on a semi regular basis like any electronic device.
blow some compressed air into the grates or even take a small vacuum to it.

Folio Case Options

I got a bit attached to the Folio style of cases with my last phone so I ended up finding a cheap option for the Turbo 2.

$10 when I purchased it.
Case is smooth leather with a removable wrist strap. Uses a fairly sturdy magnet for holding everything closed, this was an intentional coice as I was worried about having a snap that could press on the screen.
So far the inside is holding together very well. I do not use it as my daily wallet but it holds some reward cards that come out every few days. Pockets are still good after a week of owning.
The phone is held in via soft TPU liner. I am worried about it stretching over time but so far there is no sign of any loss in grip on the phone. Phone is held tight with no wiggle
The back has cutouts for the camera area as well as the microphone and "Droid" logo. TPU liner allows access to volume, Headphone, USB, and power only, no access to SD/Sim tray without removing the device.
Have you had any complains with people not being able to hear you when you're on the phone? Just bought a similar case and it has the cutout on the back for the mic but everyone complains that they can't hear me clearly or it sounds like it's breaking up

OEM Car Kit for P20 Pro, anyone using it?

Hi, I am thinking of buying the original Car Kit for my P20 Pro, is anyone using it? I'm wondering about the case that comes in this kit, is it protective enough for daily use outside the car? If you own one, please give me your opinions
I'm using it and personally think it has the "perfect feel" in hand. The case itself is thin and has a hard plastic back where the magnet is. The sides have the slightest "rubbery/silicone" feel to it, which makes it easy to hold. If you have ever felt the silicon casing for the iPhone X, it's like that only thinner. There are cutouts on the top for the RF receiver and mic as well as the volume/power buttons on the sides and speaker/usb-c ports on the bottom.
To answer your question. "is it protective enough for daily use outside the car?" depends on how rough you are on the phone. I've dropped my phone from about 0.5m up 2-3 times already and the case protected the phone nicely. If you are a person that's anal about scratches on the phone, just be aware that the top, right side, and bottom have cutouts that might lead to scratching while in a pocket.
Thanks for in-depth review. The only thing that keeps me from buying this kit are the cutouts in the case - if it wasn't for this it would be perfect buy for me. I'l think this through. Oh and one more thing - how well it protects the cameras?

Black Chrome Near Speakers Peels Off Easily

I was trying to remove dusts on the bottom speakers (we all know that they are super prone to dusts) using just a scotch tape and the black chrome near the bottom speakers was easily peeled off. Not really a big deal for me as it is barely noticeable but given the fact that this phone is a flagship device, I am really disappointed with Xiaomi's QC on this.
Weird. I've had the phone for quite a while now and haven't had any peeling, chipping, or paint come off at all. I've cleaned it a few times. Haven't tried using tape on it though, but even that shouldn't peel it up.

Please don't try it. Haha. I guess it's not really chrome plating but black paint on the side of the glass near the speakers.
