Official AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Battery Thread - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Placeholder for users to post their battery results with the stock ROM

Running through my first charge today. So far, its been off charger for 4h 21m. I am at 74% with a live wallpaper and screen rotation on. So far, it seems to be better than my infuse.

Been using it a good bit today.

RTR, I am just here for the education.
9% remaining. 16h 46m on battery. 75% screen brightness.

I am liking this. Are you a heavy user or moderate user?

I consider myself a moderate user.
I'm on my first full day using it and I'm at 33% left after 13 hours

My Inspire would be dead at that point. I can not wait for this point. I am a very heavy user and am always on my phone.

I use mine a decent bit. My infuse would have been dead about the same time this one had 20% left on it.

Phone lasted me from 10am to 8pm~ish
Im a pretty heavy user. Steady flow of texting/browsing web/emailing;
/music throughout that timespan. I say its comparable to the iPhone 4 battery life. 'Once a day charges' not 2-3x a day lol

Screen-on time is the thing that matters most when it comes to battery life.
Is there a way to get the exact amounts of screen-on time you guys are getting with the Galaxy S II?

Today:
Battery is at 48%
Phone has been on 8h 9m
Display 1h 7m (45% of consumption)
Edit: So I guess 1h 7m of display has used ~25% of the battery life.

Official battery
I've been hearing that the galaxy S2 battery from AT&T is proving to be pretty good. I don't know if you guys have heard about the official Samsung battery is supposed to be released any day now, if not there's a link.

With this at least you can carry a good extra battery when you know you're going somewhere and won't be near any AC.

Like dayv said that is for the international version. The 4 pins on each side of the battery cover will not even align because the AT&T version is longer.

Eric
Do not use Hyperion, QCell or any other cheap ebay/amazon batteries. They are only about 1700mah at best and will kill your phone under moderate use in about 60 to 90 minutes. Maybe less.
I'm on stock GB rooted with all bloat frozen via TB and I can get through a whole day of use on one Samsung OEM batt with light to med usage.

This is no where near the average!
And you seriously must not use your phone, like at all
17 hours at 73% is a bit extreme, but so is 2% per minute drain.
I think I can represent a fairly average user. I usually check email, weather and a little reddit during my morning routine. BT is always on and connects to my car while I drive to work for about 30 minutes. I average about 2 or 3 long phone calls a day on my phone. Some text messaging throughout the day and some short internet sessions on my phone while at work. Plus a few minutes here or there for Draw Something. I stream Google Music every day on my way home for about 30 minutes. Once at home my usage varies depending on what I do for the evening. But so far I usually find I have about 50% battery life when going to bed. I actually made it through Friday and Saturday on a single charge.
So I would say that this phone has above average battery life for an android device. It isn't stellar, but it isn't bad either. My Infuse could eek out about the same life with less use. My N1 never made it even close to this length. My buddy's MyTouch 4g can't usually make it a full 24 hours.

Considering the screen size, the battery isn't actually that big. It sounds enormous due to other phones with almost a thousand less mAH, but I just bought a bunch of extra batteries. The removable battery feature is the biggest reason I switched to Android.
LTE is a HUGE battery killer. I turned off wireless since LTE is SOOOOOO much faster than any wireless connection I'm on. I'd be lucky if I could get through a workday without it being below 50% by the end of a work day and completely dead by 7pm.
Turn on wireless and it's now almost 3pm and still have 78% left.
Lets face one fact everyone is different. .everyone claims this and that and regardless of what carrier or what device people will.never see the batt life they would really.like to see.Say like 50% after 3 days heavy usage that would be a thing we.may see in.smartphones in a few years. Android o.s will always be battery harsh. Its a huge topic.
Another point.on all the claims of Great and terrible batt life has to do with the fact. .people just dont truly get how others may use there devices so heavily..streaming vid...music...downloads...mail sync...Some maybe few truly use there phones 24 hrs non stop. There probably will never be a batt drain solution for those people. So telling one person that batt is fine with all this moderate usage coming from a person who uses there data more like "lightly" rather than heavy, doesnt help a person who is a heavy heavy data user.Neither sides will ever come to an agreement.

Wow that is awesome! I'm getting home with a full days use at around 50-60%- It seems to be better than my captivate was on life that's for sure.
I have had mine for two weeks- On side note? hehehe Does cycling a battery really prove to get better life as time goes by or is it a old school story about batteries use to have memory etc... and now they don't?
Modern batteries don't have memory but their battery meters can become decalibrated which can be fixed with a full change cycle. Nonetheless, I don't recommend doing that too often (I only do it like once a year) since that's bad for the battery.

The battery life is fantastic but my old phone was a generation older then your Nexus. With my Epic 4G if I got 1.5hrs of screen on time (15-30% brightness and 1-2% no signal) I would be on the low battery warning. If I used Nav it would drain the battery 1% a minute. On the Evo I can have the screen cranked up to 50% or higher, get 2.5 hours of screen on time, music streaming and navigation going and get home at the end of the day with 40% left. :victory:

I'm not a fan of sense by any strech of the imagination... but im sure the devs can do something about that to where I wouldn't have to deal with that for too long.
I usually get a full day out of this device no matter what. I've only really tried two roms, mean and viper. Viper for me, had a more steady decrease rate where I could get 5-7 hours of screen on time during a day easily. I've not heavily used it since I've been on mean rom, although I usually hit 50% after 45-60 minutes of screen on time with mean.(Albeit this is over a full regular day's usage where my phone battery time would be between 9-11 hours)
Since I figure a follow up question will be the performance between the two, they perform about the same. The difference in performance for day to day usage is minimal at best. Either way both roms get a full day for my current usage.(Full day being 13-18 hours)
I think that it is pretty unanimous that the EVO has far superior battery life. Every review and person I've talked to say that.

I would have to say the evo 4g lte and galaxy s 3 (s4soc) has amazing battery life.I average 16-20 hours medium use!(facebook, instagram, browsing, calls, text, youtube) a friend of mine has the vz galaxy nexus, within the first week he had to buy the 3800ah? Siedo. His stock battery would die in 6-10 hours medium use. He also lost NFC during the battery swap.
This device even outlast my evo 3d with the 3000mah battery! At first I wondered why they permanently shoved a 2000mah battery inside, but honestly with efficient hardware the battery life was/is greater then I expected.
I'm on my phone all the time. Phone calls, texting, you tube videos, email, Facebook, etc. My screen is usually at 25%. I average about a 10% drop an hour during heavy use periods, with about 14 to 16 hours a day without having to charge.

Battery Life is awesome

Just had to post this factoid. I've had the DNA for about 2 weeks and i honestly can't believe the battery life. It is just getting sick battery life. I've had alot of smartphones over the years, but this one is by far the best in battery life. My last phone, droid razr, was on juice defender and barely made it through a day without charging and minimal use.
An example day like yesterday is typical:
unplugged at 7am fully charged. Bluetooth streaming music for an hour ride to work, 4 hours of music streaming during work along with 30 min of gaming (lunch). Streaming music all the way back home - 74% At home, 1 hour of tasker, 30 mins of various email and facebook. Result - 59%. No charging overnight, on it's 7am alarm, it is at 53%.
It will go 2 full days of use without charging. How did they do that? The battery is barely bigger than my dual core RAZR on a much smaller more efficient 4'3" screen. I've always had SuperAmoled phones like the galaxy S3, RAZR, etc.. I thought superamoled was more efficient.
I saw the XDA review a couple days ago and another online review a month ago. In both cases, the reviewers were also a bit perplexed about the great battery life. It wasn't just good, it was unusually GREAT.
That's good to hear.. mind to post some screen shots? Particularly the screen on time.
If I didn't live in a signal black hole I would easily get 2 days out of mine...

What's a good app to show this breakdown?
I agree 100% Compared to my thunderbolt (had it until a few weeks back, was almost 2 years old) which could not really make it through the entire day with regular usage, the DNA usually ends up at around 50% (at least from looking at the battery symbol, I've not bothered to look at the actual percent) with regular usage. I live a few miles away from a tower, so not sure if that affects battery life significantly, definitely works well though. Combined with the wireless charging setup (was not planning on getting it initially, but had ended up selling back the thunderbolt + had some sort of work discount, so it had ended up only being around $11) battery life is the least of my concerns at the moment
I feel the same way. I had a TB with rezound battery and SoaB 1.4 and it drained so fast. My DNA seems to last forever. It's such a relief to not have to have a charger around if I'm going to be gone for more than 6 hours.

Any thoughts as to why it gets so amazing battery life? On paper a quad core 5" screen with just a 2020mh battery should barely make it through the day. The nexus 4 surely doesn't get this life on a similar chip with smaller screen (i have one).

I totally agree with the above comments. I was scared by the prerelease estimates of the battery. Using it daily has proven the opposite. Some times I look at my phone at the end of the day and worry about the battery not fully cycling. There is to much charge left to start charging. Hopefully new batteries don't have that issue. In addition these awesome developers truly maximize the capabilities of this device. And they never seem to quit.

Check battery usage at the end of the day and disable any apps running services you're not using. Mine was using Maps a lot for some reason so I disabled it in Titanium. There were a few other apps with notifications that I turned off as well and now I'm still at around 70% around 11PM after being off the charger since 8AM with moderate usage.
Just installed GSAM yesterday.
Ran the phone a little harder than normal, I use juice defender, but set it to FORCE ENABLE data, which offsets it's use. To give an example, typically on Juice defender on idle, it uses about 1% an hour. So overnight, i would expect less than 8% drop, but these last few days, it was more like 15%.
Had the phone on for 34 hours on battery and it still at 24% battery. (just plugged it in to get the screenshots).

45 minutes battery life

My Galaxy S II (and pretty much any Android evice I've picked up) has a usable battery life of 45 minutes. I unplug the phone at 9 A.M. in the morning after charging it to 100%. By 12 in the afternoon I would have browsed the Internet, checked social apps and played a few rounds of a game for what feels like 45 minutes in total. By then the battery is at 30% and I have to put it away in fear of it dying before I get home. The phone is useless for the rest of the day. My iPhone 4 with its 3 year old battery lasts 2 days like this.
No wakelocks, 99% deep sleep. I have a 3200mAh battery which feels like it lasts 1.5 hours before I have to put it away in fear. Basically the phone is not usable at all due to the user being in constant fear of the battery dying.
If I don't use the phone at all it's down to 20% by the end of the day with no wakelocks and 99% deep sleep. If I don't use my iPhone 4 with its 3 year old battery, it still lasts 20 days.

Yes I use BBS and have completely disabled all bloatware using Autostarts. I have the original battery and the Mugen Power 3200mAh battery. The battery life is proportional to with the capacity of the batteries I've used.
The primary use of my phone is mobile gaming. I don't care about the phone part except for receiving push notifications for email, IMs etc. which I then reply to on the PC anyway.
My SG2 and pretty much every Android device I pick up has 45 minutes of battery... Either you have won the lottery and got a defect phone several times or there is something fishy going on..
My sg3 lasted for 24 hours, my s4 last for a couple of days, my motorola razr lasted a week and my iphone 4 went for a day and sometimes 24 hours..
Even if I stress test my sg4 and s3 all the time it would last for a lot loooonger than 45 minutes..
I know the games will use a lot of juice but 45 minutes? Something is wrong...
What kind of games are we talking about? I do not play so much myself, just online poker, some tetris and so on, my iphone and android phones is pretty similar when talking about these games...
You could go for a Nintendo Game Boy etc
That said I taught ICS used less battery than JB. And it's pretty weird if you have the mugen battery. My Razer had a 3300 battery and that would go for days, even with heavy usage.

I've extensively used the Galaxy S, Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, Nexus One, Nexus S. All of them can be used heavily (3G, gaming) for just 45-60 minutes before the battery is low and you have to save it for the rest of the day.
Simply listening to music for 2 hours in the gym drains 35% battery! WTF? This is without any equaliser and while using an external headphone amplifier. I could listen to music for 2-3 hours a day for 1 week on my old iPod touch before needing to charge it.

Maybe you usually install a battery discharger app?
Never had such behaviour.

If I enable Aeroplane mode it's still at 99% after a day.

I do. The battery actually drains while charging if I'm using the phone.

Possibly a crap battery, but im going to suggest you don't use the samsung charger. The phone holds a wakelock whilst charging, keeping the phone running at 200Mhz, so unless you are delivering 650mA, your phone will die. Therefore I suggest you are using an unofficial charger, which doesn't deliver the needed 650mA, or you have an unofficial battery which wont accept 650mA. Either way, if you're not using Samsung appliances you shouldn't really be complaining about crap battery.

I am using the original Samsung charger and the original Samsung battery. I have an additional 3200mAh Mugen Power battery.
It drains faster than the charge rate only if I'm playing games.
Could be many things then, but as you say BBS doesnt report wakelocks, it would all just be conjecture. Try and pull a logcat after an hour or so of deepsleep and see if you notice anything untoward. Also, have you done simple things like turn WiFi off when you're not using it? That scans every 15 seconds or something. Or if you're in a crap phone signal area, your phone will keep scanning for and trying to connect to a better signal.

It's the phone obviously. Like I said if I put it in Aeroplane mode than the battery is still at 99% at the end of the day. If it's in normal mode it drains severely. I don't have this problem on any other phone. I've flashed the latest modem for my region and tried older modems for my region as well.
Not sure but it sounds like you have technical issues with your phone.
I have the official Samsung uprated battery and I loose about 60% out of the phone battery a day with heavy usage. Usually doesn't get to that point as I charge at work or home when not in use.
I take it as a given that all smart phones, tablets or laptops have ****e battery life.
Blanket generalisations about specific OS' or brands being superior to others is just silliness.
Saying that, when it comes to battery life, my HP Touchpad running CM 10.1 pisses all over any iOS device and the ghost of Steve Jobs agrees with me!

60% at the end of the day is a joke. It's unacceptable. Without use My iPhone 4 is at 95% at the end of the day with everything switched on and every possible syncing enabled. Why is it so hard for Samsung to produce a properly working phone after 5 years? I am 100% sure their latest phones like the Galaxy S 4 behave exactly the same way no matter what PR bull**** they try to spin.

Seems the iPhone is the device meant for you, for me in normal usage it lasts 2 and a half days altogether with the stock battery, heavy usage like a gameplay of Gamelofts Modern Combat series or N.O.V.A gives me 3 hours of continuous play after which the battery reaches around 7-10%, wifi in JB sadly kills my battery only gets around 6 hour's with continuous usage which was greater in my GB and ICS days.
But 95% at the end of the day for the iPhone 4 with everything ON is a bit of an exaggeration(the hell kind of unremovable battery is that?) don't you think?

Everything on with no use. Thats the drain in standby. My SGS2 drains whether I use it or not with everything on. In aeroplane mode, it stays at 99% without use.

mpj note 3 slim extended battery (4500mah ?)

I was looking around spare battery for my new Note 3 and found some of the same size as original. I had one of those mpj batteries for my previous S3. It probably exaggerate their specs, but still managed to squeeze several hundred more mah and worked good even five months later. Much better than my OEM one out of amazon. Thought it was still worth a roll of the dice to go back to a replacement battery from them. Just received mine yesterday, didn’t measure how much longer but I assume it lasts me 1-2 hrs more before it died.
Edit: I think the battery is still be good condition.
Cheers
ive actually ordered one of these with the added NFC, i hope it goes well. will post here specs also.

I've ordered one as well. I'm curious how long it will hold up. How long did it take for shipping?

Do a full review please. I am also thinking about buying it.
I normally get 5-6 hours of on screen time with stock battery at 60% brightness.
Would it be real? I mean 4500mah in the same size?

It probably adds 10% amount of the new stock battery, but still think it is a good replacement:cyclops:impressive for 20 bucks.
Mine arrived today, its the same size and backcase fits on fine. Im currently charging it up. it came with 57% charge but so far, a episode of the walking dead (40 mins) took 8% battery with full brightness.

That sounds not bad
After a night of full charge, i took it off and battery drained 4% in 2 mins 30 seconds. Only had wifi of and did not do anything heavy other than check email. Not good! ill see how i go through out the day,.
Im hoping this will be sorted after a few recharge cycles etc..but i may have to have the stock battery as a backup!
My sister ordered one and it arrived few days ago. Screen on 38% and at 10 hrs she was still at 70% left.
If anyone has this battery or any extended battery please download gsam in the market it will give you the exact voltage of your battery for example see picture. . This is my stock Battery it's low because my phone currently needs a charge but I would imagine that of someone had an extended battery that was fully charge it would give you the accurate mah so we can see what batteries are legit on ebay and amazon and share with our fellow xda users

What what I recall, with smartphone batteries, the first 15% will always discharge faster. remember, percentage isn't rate.
