Buy At&t Samsung GII or Wait on Nexus Prime? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I am dying for a new phone, I love my Nexus One but need something newer. I really want to buy the SII Sunday, but don't want to get a phone that will be outdated in less than a month with the release of the Nexus Prime on GSM (rumors they it will be available). Anyone else in this same boat, also curious as to what the Iphone will have Oct 4.

I'm in the same boat, but I've been without a phone since March of this year.
I'm gonna go ahead and get the SGS2 but if the Holiday/Raider 4G or Nexus Prime (hasn't even been announced for AT&T) comes out I'm just going to take advantage of the 30 day return policy.
If it comes out in 31 days from October 2nd then I guess I'm screwed.

Is AT&T 30 days on return policy now? I thought it was 14

I must be thinking of Best Buy..... in any case, it would be more beneficial to pick it up from Best Buy if this is true.

Well if you go by that route might as well wait for the Galaxy S III. My point is get the phone that you like. The SGSII will be good for at least two years. I will probably get both. The SGSII for sure. If you are an Apple fan then you just have to wait once a year. So many phones so little time.

AT&T is 30 days with a $35 restocking fee (Costco is 90 days):
Equipment
If the equipment you purchased directly from AT&T does not meet your expectations, you may return or, for all equipment other than equipment sold as a "Closeout Item," exchange it at any AT&T owned retail store within 30 days from the date the equipment was purchased or shipped, except for tablets and MOTOROLA LAPDOCK TM for MOTOROLA ATRIX TM4G, which must be returned within 14 days of purchase. Equipment purchased from att.com/wireless or directly from AT&T over the phone may also be returned by mail. If returning your equipment to AT&T by mail, please retain a copy of the tracking number from the shipping carrier for your records. Depending on the reason for the return, return shipping charges may apply.
Restocking fees:
A $35 restocking fee applies to all devices (excluding tablets) purchased through AT&T, except where prohibited. The restocking fee does not apply to iPhone if it is returned, unopened, during the return period.
A restocking fee of 10% of the sales price applies to all tablet returns (including iPad), except where prohibited. The restocking fee does not apply to iPad if it is returned, unopened, during the return period.
Corporate Responsibility Users: For Apple branded equipment (iPhone and iPad), the restocking fee is 10% except where prohibited (unless the device is returned, unopened, during the return period).

Get the S2. It'll be viable for a while. Everything regarding the Prime is just speculation, and there's no telling how long you'll be waiting.
"If you're always waiting for what's coming, you'll never buy anything."
. . . and you shouldn't even be considering the iPhone -_-

Buy nexus prime.
It is nicer than S2, super amoled plus hd screen, quicker cpu, ICS.

I posted this in another thread, but I was hoping you knew the answer to this as well:
ChaoticJapan said:
So, say if I were to buy it from CostCo at the 2-year price, would I be able to return it within its 90 days for a refund along with terminating the plan early (with no early termination fees of course)? So if this does happen, I should be allowed to buy the Prime for the 2-year price, right?
I'm asking this because I was under the impression that, before 90 days, CostCo only held returns/refunds for the handset itself, and not for the 2-year service plan. And that AT&T were the only ones who could offer a refund/cancellation of a 2-year service plan, in addition to the handset, but this would only be before 30 days. Is this true?

After 30 days at Costco you are locked in to the 2yrs. The 90 days is return only. But what difference would it make? If you can exchange for another model why would the contract matter?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium

Are you sure? Is the 90 days just for a return or a full exchange? I wouldnt know how it would be possible for them to rehonor the 2yr pricing 90 days later.. thats a hugee loss

Unless you're planning to move to VZW, no Prime for you. VZW's getting the Prime as an alternative to a SGS2 variant. Everything I've read says they have the U.S. exclusive for the device. I'd guess the exclusive would be for at least six months. I'm sure it'll have HSPA+ internationally so you could probably import one and use it on AT&T when it launches overseas. Canada might be an option too.

Just go ahead and get this phone. I just got mine. No wonder why the critics are going GaGa over this phone. I haven't played with all the options yet. But the UI and scrolling on stock rom is flawless.

Costco is 14 days to return phone and get out of the 2 yr contract. You have 90 days to return the phone for money back or exchange for different phone, but your contract is till enforced. AT&T mandates the 14 day contract buyers remorse.

AT&T IS and ALWAYS HAS BEEN 30 days for money back return and Costco 90. As for getting out of the contract BOTH are 30. Absolutely not 14 days. Read it right here: http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/legal/return-policy.jsp

That has been a bone of contention. It seems to vary depending on what Costco you go into. Some CLAIM you can exchange others (I have read) say refund only. MY STORE (Union NJ) says you can exchange for another device. At least that was what the Kiosk manager was telling everyone who walked up without them even asking. However you would need to check with your specific store and see what they say. I personally know people who have EXCHANGED well after 60 days and not only at "my" Costco.
A non-corporate store can charge anything they want at any time for the devices. Why do you think some stores/websites sell for less? They can give them away for free 24/7/365 if they want. The only thing they are under "ATT control" is the actual contract and terms relating to the contract. As for the hardware, the non-corporate stores are on their own for pricing, refunds and exchanges.
All their money is on the "clawbacks" they get for selling the contracts.

Haha, yeah I understand that. I've worked in this business for awhile so I wasn't referring to the pricing differential from one company to another..
I was just wondering how costco would receive RMA credit after 90 days+serial age.. lol not important anyways. is all good.
but doesn't matter if they let you exchange then coo, win-win.

The iPhone is 14 days and any other phone is 30 directly thru at&t

What better of the Prime? only 5 megapixels camera.

Verizon return policy....

Still undecided on if I'm keeping the Rz and may want the nexus. Just might want something different and drool over super AMOLED, nothing to do with root or anything.
Anyways, if I return it within the 14 days, does everything go back to how it was before I bought it? As in does my two year contract get put back to the old date and my upgrade is back in the system available to use right away?
I know there is a $35 restocking fee. Is there any lame fine print? As long as everything is still in new condition I should be good to go right?
Sent from my rz
should be fine. Did that with the iphone 4. Wife just had to have it, didn't like it, so took it back after 3 days and did a straight exchange for the thunderbolt. Didn't even pay a restocking fee because I told them I would just go online and get the Tbolt on amazon for 100 bucks (was 250 in store). They gave it to me straight exchange, then waived the fee.
yeah you return it and get your ne2 or whatever back.
What if I bought a Razr 3 days ago, swap for a Rezound, then decide on the Galaxy Nexus? Can I do that?
You can only return one phone per line upgrade.

The NE2 does not come back, but the upgrade does. You might be able to get it back by a call to CS, but it will not come back automatically. Also, if you used an annual upgrade, it will not be eligible until the actual upgrade date. A return exchange on the other hand you would still have the NE2 and on an annual upgrade you would still get the promo price.
Oops I meant upgrade not ne2 lol sorry I'm beat! However, if your rep is really nice and wants to help you out, he can get you a ne2 back lol..its a lot of jumping through hoops but eh

If you bought the phone in a Verizon corporate store from Nov 15th to Dec 28th, you have until Jan 9th to exchange it. I bought a Rezound because I had a Nexus One and was tired of waiting for the Galaxy Nexus. I'll just exchange my Rezound for the Galaxy Nexus when it's out which is looking like Dec 8th.
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/11/1...return-phones-purchased-starting-november-15/
I bought mine launch day so I only get two Weeks....I'll go back to my Dinc for a week till the nexus gets here.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
Like other posters said you can exchange a device once and if you exchange it will transfer over the NE2 credit if there is one. If you purchase it now you will have through the 9th of January to exchange it. Most stores will not waive the restocking fee without a lot of time and complaining. Little trick to get by this is to call into customer care before you go into the store, complain about the restocking fee and get them to ok it and remark the account. If they put a note in the account they will waive it in the store.
I just got this phone also gf was sick of my bb bold told the rep i needed a phone until the nexus came out. He was not pleased it seems like hardware is decent but after coming from a rooted charge the software is a little hard to get used too. Oh well if big red will not give out any info they will have a bunch of refurb phones

I was trying to buy one of these for $0.01 on Friday but ended up getting it for $9.99.
I was having trouble completing the process because there was no option for unlimited data plan, this was around 745pm. After speaking with someone over the phone on ATT they said that they made notes on my profile and to go ahead and but it under the 4GB data plan and they would change it back to unlimited before I activated the GSII. So I proceeded to do so but I noticed that the price had changed to $9.99. Im assuming the change happened at 8pm my time (EST) but not sure why they would do this on a weekend, oh well no penny phone for me but 10 bucks isn't so bad either.
I got one for $99 from radioshack with full warranty. Still a good deal for this phone.
I rather pay 99 at Radioshack then free refurb.

most likely nothing to worry about. And if you do have a problem with it, you'll most likely come across the problem fairly quickly so warranty is not usually a problem.

Did the same thing last weekend. There was an option to use the existing data plan when you select "Add on" from the shopping cart.
Anyway, ended up paying $76.11!!! Here's the cost breakdown from AT&T Premier...
One-Time Charges
Phone/Device
Samsung Galaxy S(TM) II (Refurb) $9.99
Upgrade Fee $18.00
Sub-Total(One-Time) $27.99
Sub-Total(Monthly) $25.20
Order Summary
One-Time Charges $27.99
Estimated Tax $48.12
Shipping $0.00
Total One-Time Charges $76.11
Monthly Charges
Data Plan
Smartphone Personal Add On for 4G Devices $30.00
Service Discount -$4.80 (company discount)
Features
Applications
Monthly Charges $25.20
Estimated Monthly Tax TBD
Total Monthly Charges $25.20
________
Long story short, AT&T messed up their tax charge calculation... how can EST. TAX be $48.12???? Called a sales Rep only to be flogged off to call back later when the phone arrives with the billing note to confirm the charges and seek a credit.
-10 for AT&T Customer services! As unhelpful as always.
I believe that they charge tax based upon the full retail price.

I'm content. Love it.

Cheapest place to buy non contract Note?

My cheapest long term option right now is to buy a Note straight up. I haven't seen any place under VZW right now. I wanted to get one for around 600. Most of the ones on ebay are going for more than original price right now.
Any suggestions for is VZW price of 699 the lowest price?
VZW price is the lowest I have found. I am going to buy it at Best Buy though so I can put it on my Best Buy CC and get 18 months no interest.

Search this forum and you will find a few threads already but I would say Amazon wireless is the cheapest but it is out of stock as of now... Tax depends on your state of course.
Best buy will pm vzw, then open a cc account...they will knock $20 off, then if you opt to pay the full amount when bill comes in, they take 4% off. Not a bad deal.
I purchased mine at BB and they PMed VZW. Also 18 months no interest or 4% rewards points. I just checked Amazon and they have it in stock for 644.99 and free shipping

Best Buy Purchase
Hi everyone,
I see people have purchased their Note II through Best Buy using some 18 month 0% financing. Does this mean that you can pay installments of the full retail price of the phone?
My mom's current VZW plan that I am on only has one basic phone on it in which I plan to transfer someones upgrade on it to get the Note II. But if Best Buy does the installment payments, I'm going to figure out which is cheaper to purchase and which is cheaper to upgrade between the Note II and the iPhone 5, which my sister really wants.
Looking forward to advice/suggestions.
Thanks,

Yes you can make a min payment of $25.00 a month and as long as you pay it before the 18 months are up you pay no interest. Just don't be even a day late or BB will start charging you interest and you lose the 0 % financing. Also as of today you have to spend a min of $429.00

I bought mine off of craigslist for $500. Just gotta watch the listings and haggle with people. Always check the ESN before accepting any device. Just call Verizon tech support and they take care of it no questions asked. I swap phones every couple months or so and my TEP has remained in tact, no questions asked. I carried my TEP over from a Verizon Galaxy Nexus, an iPhone 5 and now to my Note 2.

Just read up on the 18 month financing if making a purchase from Best Buy...You need a Best Buy Reward Zone credit card. I guess that's not an option anymore.

No problem. The upgrade would definitely be worth it. I've used a lot of different phones, but this is the first one that I truly enjoy getting to use. Not sure how Costco is, but I got mine at Wal-Mart, and theirs is also 14 days. A bit of badgering will let you return in within 30 days though lol. [Q] Note 3 on Sprint new One Up

I looked at every blog and cant find a straight answer. So if I am due for a phone upgrade...With Sprint one up plan i can get the note 3 for 0 down "no money upfront" and makes payments each bill cycle? At the end of owning the phone 1 yr i can do get another phone again with 0 down?
I'm in a similar situation, I want to swap the note 3 after a year or 6 months to get triband lte (I'm in a wimax area).
Currently on a family unlimited plan but wondering if I can do the jump program for a year.

I am doing the One Up on Friday to go from Note 2 to the Note 3. You have to pay sales tax on the full retail price of the phone up front then you start your monthly payments. After 12 months you can use the One Up again on that line to get another new phone. This way actually saves me money. If the price is $699.99 then I will be paying about $58 on tax and then right at $30 per month. So one year of payments would be $350 then I could start all over again with the Note 4. Since I usually buy a phone at full price when I am in the middle of a 24 month contract, the One Up program is going to end up being cheaper for me.

I called my local store about this. The thing that I think people miss about it is that you cannot upgrade to the next phone (in your case Note 4) until you have completely paid off your Note 3. So a year in you still have to pay another $439, assuming they put retail at $799. Also I am pretty sure that at that time you surrender your old device to them meaning the argument about picking up the difference via a private party sale is out the window too. Then you'll have to put a down payment to get your Note 4 on top of that since the no down payment option is only a limited time deal! For that reason I'm not jumping into the One UP at this time...
I was told by my local store that it works the way I described. That is the whole point of the One Up program. To allow customers to upgradeevery year. One of the social care people on sprints forums even states " you will be eligible for a new phone after we recieve 12 payments for the phone"
I would go in the store and ask or call a different store.

Yes you are eligible that is true but you are still due 24 months payments, meaning if you have remaining balance on your phone you have to pay that! If I'm wrong someone show me some official documentation because I can't find it.

That doesn't make sense from what they told you. How is it a one up program if i don't get a device each yr. The limited time yes is for 0 down but you have to be able to get a new device in a yr to call it One Up. Otherwise I would just pay $350 for device up front and get another device in 2 yrs vs paying full price. From what i heard you don't own the device and you are turning it back in, hence the reason you are not paying full price and allowed to upgrade in a yr.
Sprint is really going down hill with the softbank merger. Confusing everyone even their employees.
We have had one statement from Sprint only saying it will be release Oct 4th. No promotion or anything. The one up hasn't been fully vetted and its live and active. This is crazy!
Exactly it's like they are trying to copy the auto industry and develop a phone "lease" program. I love the thought of early upgrades (R.I.P. Gold member program) however I was told that you have to pay the remaining payments before you can upgrade to your next phone. Would love for this to be wrong but need someone to find some actual proof from the sprint either way.

That would be the same as current plans...If i wanted to upgrade to a new phone from Note 2 in less then a yr i just pay the early termination. After a yr on contract the termination would be less then $200. So if i paid $300 to get the device and $200 to cancel contract that's only $500. Still $200- $300 shy of original price. As this wouldn't make any sense i am sure One Up has to be cheaper in the fact of getting a new device each yr.

I just now called customer care and asked them. I explained to the rep (Kelly) what I was planning and asked about the remaining 12 months of payment if I One Uped again in 12 months. Kelly put me on hold while she looked into it and she came back and said that after 12 months of payment I could do the one up again. I asked again to clarify that they remaining 12 months of payments went away and she said yes as long as you turn in the phone.

Yea that's what i figured. That's the only way this plan could work lol. Im still upset that sprint has not made a bigger effort to explain this. Its like they don't want anyone to know they are doing 0 down. Maybe after 0 down ends they will start advertising.

Don't forget the $15 per month discount that you get off your bill for as long as your in the one up program. With that your essentially only paying 15 per month for the phone.
Say if you were to upgrade to the Note 4 at year one, do you own the Note 4 at year 2 after completing 24 payments?
If that is true, One up makes a lot of sense because you could then sell the Note 4 that you upgraded to for more cash at year 2 than a Note 3 you would have had to kept for two years with the standard subsidized route.
Yea, my upgrade isn't until January, they want me to give them my "one" to switch to one up and get the note 3. Eff that. I'll probably just switch to AT&T. They tried to switch me to customer retention but I was on hold a good 15 minutes and I had to go to work . I don't mind giving up the note 3 in 12 months while on the new plan, but I'm not giving them a phone I just paid full price for.

There is alot of confusion on the one up program but you pay 12 months on a phone and then if u want to upgrade again you have to hand tje phone over and start paying on another. That's hiw tje other 12 payments are gone. It's a cool idea that I'm gonna take advantage of. Plus the 15 off the monthly bill is awesome. So it would only be about 15 extra to get the note 3.

I'm in a similar situation. I pre-ordered the Evo LTE, so I can't do a standard upgrade until 1-1-14. Shortly after receiving my pre-ordered black Evo LTE, Sprint announced the white Evo LTE and I bought it at retail. Around May of this year I bought a Note 2 at retail. Even though I'm still in contract, the active device on my line is not what I bought at contract price. After talking with 3 reps at 611 and 2 reps at 2 different local stores, I was getting mixed responses about whether or not I'd have to trade in a phone to start the One Up program. I finally called 611 again and asked a rep then had her verify it with her manager. She told me that I do NOT have to trade in any phone to start the One Up program since my active device wasn't purchased at contract price and because it had been over a year. I had her put notes on my account saying that I do NOT have to trade in a phone to get the Note 3 Friday morning and begin the One Up program! I still have my black Evo LTE and white Evo LTE, so I'm going to take my black LTE with me just to be safe in case they do require me to trade it in. I could sell it on ebay for $150-200, but to me it would be worth paying that to upgrade early during the Note 3 release. Hopefully they'll expect nothing from me except taxes on the Note 3, and I'll be good to go. I can let ya know for sure in just under 8 hours when my local Sprint store opens up. I will be there at 10am when they open to get me a white Note 3!!! Hoping that all goes smoothly!!

I'm either gonna convince them to let me start the program without trading in my "One" or I'm gonna go give At&t a try for a while. I've been on the fence about leaving anyway, I'm ready for 4g. Sprint is not only making me pay 50$ than anyone for the Note, and now they want my phone that I didn't even get from them? Heck no

It can be almost any phone. Upgraded to the s3 when it came out for my original upgrade. Switched to note 2 midway through contract. Upgrade I was scheduled for was feb 2014. Activated my old evo and turned that in for the note 3 this morning.

Be prepared to wait if you're getting the Note 3 on the One Up program! I was the only customer in the store and had to wait 1.5 hours for them to finally get it to go through for me! They even called Sprint and confirmed that everyone is having problems with it this morning. They told me that no over else has got it to work yet, but I was willing to wait all day, lol. Just be patient though, they eventually got it for me!!
