Hey guys, I've been toying with the possibility of using the gtablet as a car pc. There are a few points to consider in my research.
- HDMI format can handle 8 channels of uncompressed audio. Can the gtablet output 8 channels of audio and have the power to handle processing (EQ, crossover, crossover slopes, time alignment, etc?)
- We would need to find a way to convert the hdmi cable to an analog rca cable. There are several devices that can do it, but none that I can see that can convert more than just 2 channels.
- Can the gtablet hand more than one bluetooth connection? I would like to connect a gps and an obdII device.
- There is a frontend on the android market called andcar, and it looks like it could be usable on the gtablet.
- Another option is to use a usb to rca dac, unfortunately all the ones on the market do not have android drivers to support it.
I would stay away from using the built-in jack on the gtab because, frankly, the audio quality from the jack is just not that good.
Any tips/ideas/suggestions?

So just wondering about getting digital audio out from the Gtablet. Is this possible? I have the Squeezebox Player and Squeezebox Commander applications on my tablet and while the sound is OK I was wondering about feeding that audio signal to my home receiver's DAC. Is there a working USB solution? How about taking a HDMI approach and using this monoprice adapter http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10110&cs_id=1011002&p_id=5557&seq=1&format=2 to send the digital signal from the HDMI to my receiver? Anyone have any experience/suggestions?

Why can't you just connect your HDMI cable directly to your receiver? Is it because you don't have that type of connection on your receiver?
I have tried to get Squeeze Player to work on my TNT-Lite tablet. Everything seems to work except for changing the volume has problems. If you do have this working, can you tell me which image you are using?

I am currently using VEGAn-Tab Ginger Edition. And yes my music receiver/amplifier doesn't have HDMI inputs (in fact it only has either one coax or optical input). I did purchase the HDMI to optical switch but I haven't tried it with the unit stereo set up yet (maybe this weekend ???) as my Logitech Duet is currently plugged into the optical input.
SqueezePlayer coupled with SqueezeCommander are working great for me and I can even control it directly with the Duet remote or PC on my network. As they phase out this device I am going to monitor the pricing and eventually purchase another set as I have another receiver located in the "media room" (basement) that I might occassionally want the ease of the logitech device ... although now that their google tv is allegedly dropping to $99 perhaps that takes a backseat as I have a PC hooked up to that system and I can use that for music.

I wonder if it is possible to play music through USB. It doesn't work out of the box with CM 7, but maybe the is a hack or an app that would accomplish this?

When you say: "through USB"; do you mean playing on the phone (with Music player) having audio output through usb? I haven't heard of one, but it could be theoretically possible as I have a USB Fm transmitter (also, docking bases have an audio out port) which plugs into the phone and transmits audio - so im sure a hack could be built? Otherwise, if you are asking about the ability to plug it into a USB port present on most modern stereo systems - the phone can simply be mounted and the stereo system would read it like any flash drive (have done this in my car)

So I drive a 2010 Nissan Sentra, which has a built in iPod/iPhone hookup to control audio through the steering wheel or stereo (has access to artists/albums/playlists/etc). Now, up until a couple days ago I kept an old iPod filled with music in my center console where the hookup cable was located and was able to play music fine. That iPod has been stolen from my car... wonderful.
So my question is this: Is the Droid Razr capable of playing audio through the micro usb port? I know If so, would something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-m...751409?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2a223873b1 work to play music through my car via google play? My options are that or Aux (which means i cant safely change music while driving), seeing as my car does not support Bluetooth audio, and the iPod cable => car is proprietary, not USB. Would another option possibly be an iPod connector ==> Bluetooth, and connect my phone that way?

First- usb ports in car audio will have different levels of support for devices. I usually work with aftermarket equipment as my cars are old, so this MIGHT not apply in your case. In a nutshell, if you plug in via usb, AND the car supports this, its going to try to approach the razr as if it were a usb flash drive, and attempt to read the music FILES you have in there. Two points here- this is NOT a direct audio stream, and thus will not send through audio from any apps on the phone, ie pandora or nav. Your steering controls will work, if this mode happens to work. Also, some stereos support this mode, but have the limitation of only seeing the first drive available and ignoring the others. The razr has two storages and it seems to present the internal first. Because of this the radio sometimes cant see your files.
In my case, my radio would only read the "wrong" partition, where none of my files were. I would up buying a cheap flash drive and leaving that in the radio, while my phone is docked on the windshield with an aux line running in so i can get pandora, etc.
Bluetooth is an option for me, but sounded terrible so i only use it for phone functions.

seeing as my car uses a proprietary port for iPod-in, not a USB port, your suggestions are not possible, but def appreciated. I wonder if the iPod 30pin ==> micro-USB will translate to reading the files off the phone as a mass storage in the manor you are suggesting. Thats going to require putting out some $ and downloading my files from the cloud, and then moving stuff around if its reading from the wrong location in the same way it was with your phone.

I believe to Wolfson DAC is quite good for a phone, so I could connect the phone to the amp with a phono lead, but I also wonder if I could attached an external DAC via a USB adaptor to improve the sound output. I know this can be done on the S3 and some tablets, but not sure of the situation with other phones. I am ok with routing and custom ROM’s if that helps. Please note I do not want to play music stored on the phone, as my library is already 200gb and rising, but use it as a conduit to get the music from storage to the Hi-Fi

Hi Brya, thanks for making this your first post! The ArkMC app looks good. There are many DLNA streaming apps and this looks like one of the better ones.
My situation though is that if my Hi-Fi isn’t a DLNA device and only has phono input, can the phone stream a file from a NAS etc, play the file on the phone and output it through the headphone or micro USB socket to an amp. I think now that I’ve typed this out that the answer to this is yes.
So next question, how good is the audio quality going to be from such as set up? I think this depends on the DAC in the phone, which is quite good for a phone but probably not great compared to £300-£500 mini system. I’d welcome feedback on this.
Then the question is, can I connect an external DAC via the micro USB port?
For info, I haven’t actually got a Hi-Fi at the moment. I’m weighing up buying a mini system that includes a network streamer against more expensive and better sounding separates that do not (though they may have a USB input) and seeing if this would be a viable option for playing digital music.

I have been searching about this topic for months I cannot find a method to use 6 channel usb dac or HDMI Audio output on Android. I dont want surround sound at all, but I would like to use my phone as the infotainment engine. However I should be able to route notification/phone audio to a specific channel lets say front left. I checked android hal service for related interfaces but configuration files doesnt really show clearly how can I implement this.
Are there any kind of example of this? Can you please advice me how can I do it. Even if I can manage to make one stereo pcm output for media + mono pcm output for notifications and calls that should be enough too. I can do the rest with a microcontroller.
One more question I heard few times androids audio mixer layer is so crappy that makes jitter on pcm signals, how is your experiences? For instance qualcomm based socs have integrated dsp why phone developers gets benefit from it?

I'm searching for exactly the same solution, to somehow output digital stream (containing multiple audio tracks) to a DAC, which will then convert it to multiple analog tracks.

I've got multichannel analog output working on my H96 Max V58 tvbox, with a Startech 7.1 channel USB soundcard. It's got Android TV OS 12. I had to edit /vendor/etc/usb_audio_policy_configuration.xml to add the necessary info. I'm attaching a diff with my changes. The changes are just based on what I saw for the HDMI policy. I haven't tried to get the digital channels working on this device yet but that might be nice to try later too.
The reason I deleted some text from the header comment was to keep the overall filesize the same as the original. On my box /vendor is mounted from /dev/block/dm-1 and even though it's an ext4 filesystem, you can't edit any files on it because the FS has no free blocks left. So I had to overwrite the file by finding its byte offset in the block device image instead. If you can edit the policy file on your box, you can ignore that part of the diff.

It works OK except its USB jack is flaky, doesn't always get a good connection. I have to jiggle the cable sometimes to get it to power on, but then it works.
PPS: I just checked, the SPDIF out works as-is, carrying the front left/right audio.
