Samsung Headset is it a joke? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have used the headsets from lots of devices for listening to music. I'm no audiophile so don't get me wrong but the Samsung supplied headset is AWFUL. Tried some apple headphones which sounded a little better some more bass.
My 5 pound phillips headphones sound the best lots of bass. Are there any audio tweaks to be done or is that as good as it gets?
Ephumuris

I like the samsung headset a lot actually. You could use the built in equalizer on the stock Music app or download Equalizer from the market and just turn the bass up. Some people say that the 2.3.5 update sounds better, can't tell the difference to be honest.

i too think it's not too bad at all certainly better than than my old HTC one which wasn't very good,as you said if you download the equalizer app from the market and i use Power Amp the sound is quite good actually.

use ipod earphones..cheap and cheerful..
seriously though if you really want a good set of earphones go and get beats by Dr Dre..you can get good ones on Amazon and at a reasonable price

Does the "beats" equalizer work with Pandora?

I listen to Pandora a lot and I plan on getting this phone tomorrow. I just was wondering if the equalizer works with Pandora and how the equalizer works in general with the ear buds. Thanks.
The EQ works for the entire audio output of the phone through the headphone jack, so it would affect pandora as well I would assume.

I've read reviews that say the Beats Audio is only available in the HTC audio app.
I believe Beats is only for the HTC music app, other apps will not have beats audio enabled.
just use Equalizer
https://market.android.com/details?...sImNvbS5zbWFydGFuZHJvaWRhcHBzLmVxdWFsaXplciJd
It does not work in Pandora. Only in the stock apps like the HTC music player. Maybe it will be added to other apps in the future, but I doubt it since it's rather specialized to one manufacturer of phones right now. I have heard of very good EQ apps like those posted in this thread though. I really don't think the Beats EQ setting is so special that it can't be replicated pretty easily.

I never listen to music on my phone with headphones anyway, just through the aux on my car stereo. even then I set eq through the stereo anyway. headphone wise I just use them with my ipod touch when I'm at the gym.
Picked mine up Monday.
Beats only activates when playing through the HTC music app and Headphones (any) are present. Sound is more Robust with beats activated, and much louder.
I was surprised at how much louder the audio became. Many times I've longed for more head room on my iPod or phone. Please be warned at High Volumes beats can cause hearing loss. I hope Dr. Dre and HTC put a disclaimer out there somewhere.
Maybe they only tested the software with the iBeats included.
I will checkout Pandora, never used it on mobile since it was not supported well on WM6.5. I did checkout Slacker, and it was the worst sounding crap I've ever heard. Anything that resembles bass has severe clipping. Haven't tried the beats earphones yet as I have a nice pair of Ultimate Ears Superfi 5 Pros, as well as a pair of Klipsch image S4's.

Actually it does work. Beats Audio is activated as soon as you plug in headphones. What you cannot do is control the EQ Curve in Pandora so you receive the default "other" setting.
If you get a sense 4 Rom it works great

Audio Quality on the Razr

How is the audio quality on the razr with heaphones. I reaaaaaally like the phone but I currently have the revolution and its audio quality is literally poop. Anyways, its between the Razr and the Rezound and while I don't like the Rezound's response issues, Im tempted to get the rezound for the beats. Has anyone listened a great deal to music on the phone yet? Im a student and I listen from my phone a ton. Thanks!
I don't have a decent set of headphones to test this out for ya but for what it's worth the external speaker is by far the best sounding phone speaker I have ever heard. Hopefully the headphone delivery is just as good. I'll play around with the different headphones I have kicking around.
It's quite nice, and there's a few preset equalizers in sound settings to play around with.

Ill +1 you right in the face about the speaker, ive had speaker docks that dont sound as nice as the Razr, and i aint kidding
I total vouch for the audio on this phone even to the point where i tested it against the Sensation XL with beats and the beats headphones and imo the razr actually sounded better. using the same beats headphones.
The audio quality through headphones, by Pandora, was as good as any other Moto phone I've had, but the same can't be said for when I plug the phone into my car stereo/s auxiliary port while streaming pandora. It seems like the signal is weaker, and there is some software trying to compensate, which flattens the music and adds a tinny effect to the highs. This is the only real setback that I've experienced with the RAZR, and I'm hoping to get a bluetooth stereo and stream that way, if it is any better. Streaming Pandora through the Bionic in my car sounded full and amazing, I really miss it.

I've ever used my phones as MP3 players, Milestone was the best prior knowing the RAZR sound.
well, today my phone has gone into an endless boot and Im fed up with the revolution. I called verizon and they offered me an early upgrade and since Im a tad strapped for cash, I went with the bionic. Hopefully the audio quality is better than the revo.
I am very surprised to hear anyone say they enjoyed the sound from the razr, i came from an HTC incredible and the sound of the razr was very disappointing. I use pandora thru an AUX port on my deck and literally i can't listen to music on the razr, its that bad. muffled low voice sometimes i can't even hear the voice at all! Ive tried playing with the audio settings and shutting it off completely to no avail. Ive been tethering to an old 3GS iphone witch of course sounds crystal clear perfect.
I have no interest in rooting my phone since you can tether without it but im seriously contemplating it just to try and possibly fix the sound issue with beats.

I have only found the headphone audio inferior to my HP envy 15 beats computer but there is a app that installs beats audio on the razr making it equal on the amazing quality.
i use a pair of etymotic hf5's and the audio out from thr razr is not too shabby. It doesn't sound as good as my ipod video 30gb with the Wolfson dac but it sure sounds better than the audio out of my nexus. As long as you have some decent cans, it should be comparable to most handsets. If its too muffled/quiet the razr probably doesnt put out enough juice to power the drivers in your headphones so you'll need to buy an amp. Pick up a fiio e5/e6 for $30 and you should be set.m
Qualityis also subjective and depends on what headphones you have and what type of music you listen to. I damn nearly cried the first time i used my HF5'S while listening to Pavarotti because it sounded so good. If you're a serious audiophile, id suggest you invest in an ipod classic with a lod cable, a decent pocket amp and a nice pair of audio technicas, grados, sennheiser, beyerdynamics etc.

The audio quality from RAZR is very decent. Low noise, relatively good power output to drive earphones better. I am using Unique Melody Mage; quad BA drivers custom IEMs, and very satisfied.
Sound signature : It has a bit bass bump, nice mid, and a bit softer treble
Bottom line, try it with a good earphones or IEMs, for better result.
Thank you

Using the sgs2 with a high-end headphone.

I've been considering for a while to buy a good headphones and I've decided to buy an audio technica ath-m50. The only thing that is bothering me is the yamaha audio chip. If I buy those headphones, I'll be using them most of the time on my sgs2.
Will the yamaha chip make the ath-m50 sound like a cheap low-end headphone?
If you happen to own an ath-m50 I wold really appreciate it if you could measure the hollow of the earth cups, diagonally and horizontally maybe. I've read that people with large ears may find them uncomfortable. The length of my ears are just below 7cm(I don't care, they are small, my mum told me that)
I've read supercurio's analysis of the audio chip but my question still remains.
Waiting eagerly for any response.
Get an iPod nano- excellent sound quality and a great price. I hate using my GSII for music though Poweramp is a great app

Well, if you really want to use a pair of high end headphones with the galaxy sII, get a portable amp like i did. I got a fiio e7, and it powers the ath-m50just fine. Listening to them straight out of the GSII audio jack wont let them utilise their full power. And dont get an iPod if you want really high quality audio. :-/ (Just a suggestion )

I've thought of this, the only problem is finding a store that sells the audio technica ath-m50. I live in London I'm sure there is plenty of stores.
However this would not be much help because I'm not very experienced with high end headphones, so probably almost anything will sound good to me.
If you want to listen to boom boom music with heavy bass then the SGS2 is inadequate .Expensive headphones are not going to do that much .
However as a user who does not have any boom boom music i find stock player headphones or slightly upmarket low end Sennheiser headphones fine .
Power Amp for me strangely lowers sound output level .

I've the same experience as JJEgan with Power Amp. It seems to boost dynamic range at the sacrifice of overall volume.
For getting the best out of high-end headphones, you could always try Neutron Music Player from Android Market. It claims to use its own "32-bit audio music rendering core", although it's debatable whether this makes a difference, given that uncompressed CDs only have 16-bits per sample. People seem to like it, though.
Just recently I noticed something when listening to music using Poweramp with a headphone.
When you click on something such as the app drawer, the volume of the music that you are listening to increases for fraction of a second then it goes back to normal.
It can be very annoying when you are using the phone while listening.

Tried Neutron at the weekend, and these old ears couldn't see - OK, hear - what the fuss is about. No difference from Poweramp with a very unscientific ABX on my Sennheiser IE8s.
Definitely the worst UI I've seen on any music player though - so hideous that it should win awards.

Senn HD25-1s and Ety ER4-Ps both sound fine straight out of the headphone socket.
Using poweramp, without any eq or tone control tweaks, just ~30% crossfeed.
I read all the reports of crappy audio on the GS2, so when I got mine and tried it I was very pleasantly suprised.
Whereabouts in Poweramp settings is crossfeed...Didn't realise Poweramp supported it ?

[Q] Galaxy S2 i9100 Audio. is THAT bad?

Hi, question is simple, it's galaxy S2 audio So crappy that it isn't worth the moving from i9000 to i9100?
1)I'm not an audophile, but it's really THAT noticeable the audio quality diference between those two?
2)Does supercurio's "Voodoo Louder!" makes sound S2 sound loud as S1? or S1 is still louder than S2?
(I know that louder doesn't mean better quality, but this question is different from first)
well, that is all
I think it's absolutely fine. I'm not a music snob either. I haven't tried Voodoo Louder so I can't comment, but I can say that I've noticed a HUGE volume boost since I've moved over to MIUI. But yeah, the sound is fine, bare in mind that I've never used a SGS though.

My S2 is loud at 30% volume 50% is to loud .
The defining point for many is relatively simple SGS2 not so good at the low end .
So if you listen to boom boom bang bang extra bass stuff its not that good .

Grrr. Beats only "makes a difference" if you don't know how music is suppose to sound and enjoy over-mastered music normalised to 99% so "it sounds good" to the masses. Or you're one of the annoying ones which put 2 x 500W subwoofers in their car (but they'll go deaf by 25, so that's ok, just cleaning the gene pool).

The soundsignature could very well be described as muddy with overbearing low end even more than the studios already had. [...] the beats fell short no matter what I tried.

On topic: the sound quality of the SGS 2 isn't bad, but not spectacular either. It really depends on your expectations; if you expect it to sound as a 1000$ hi-fi device, then search somewhere else. As you're listening to music on a *portable* device, you'll have external noise anyway; better get a pair of quality in-ear headphones (with good insulation); this will allow you to reduce outside noise and keep the volume down (so you'll still have hearing when you get old).

The SQ is worse than my £30 Sansa Clip... It's acceptable, but no more IMHO. For "serious portable music", I stick with my S9 and Senny IE8s. Just use the phone for music for trips to work. YMMV.
It definitely depends upon your music .
How its coded and what format .
SGS2 is not very good with boom boom stuff as its weak at the low end .
Sound level does vary on phones ( or we have a load of deaf users ) their are a number of apps that may help .
Stock phones or Cheapish Sure or Sennheiser sound level at 30% and no problems on my phone .
Tweaked very slightly with Volume + free app and Visang RO2 IEM for slightly better overall natural timbre .
