Help! Noob Installed KG6 Modem on AT&T U.S. Phone - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Well....I think I might have done something really stupid. It should be obvious at the moment that I didn't understand completely what I was doing.
I just picked up my SGSII today from AT&T. In reading around I had hopes of a new ROM as I was very happy with CM on my captivate....unfortunately while in the process I followed instructions from an (obviously) european version of the phone and installed the KG6 modem....now I have no data connection.
I'm feeling really foolish...is there any way that I can get the stock modem for the AT&T U.S. Galaxy S2? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anybody? My phone is completely non-functional at the moment.
I've learned my lesson; I'll leave the modding to the more adept, I just need to get my phone back.

Try the stock plus root rom for odin/heimdall and that should over write the modem you flashed

FYI, you shouldn't expect rapid replies on a Monday morning.
The modem is currently missing from my "unbrick" packages, but this is an omission. I'll dump modem.bin tonight and post it up in my unbrick thread.
insaneturbo13 is not correct - as I said, my stock unbrick package is currently missing the modem.bin file. I will correct this tonight.

What would be the easiest way, If possible, to install european ROMS on the ATT version? Maybe, install the ROM without their kernel and modem and replace them AT&T's ?

I believe that alone should work - I haven't had time to test yet.

I got all excited when my brother got his gs2 and I flashed a euro rom before I realized what I had done. I used entropy's stock package to get him fixed. Then he calls me from home and starts *****ing about how he can't use data unless he's on wireless. I put 2+2 together.
I am, like the others here, super eager to get that modem file when you post it. It would be a huge help. If it's not too much work on your part entropy, could you post a cwm version of the modem as well? I'd rather not have to flash him back to stock again just to fix the modem.
He's an iphone expat so I'm trying to make his android life smooth as possible.

I'm going to get home around 6 PM Eastern.
Initially I'm going to post up a Heimdall (and hopefully also Odin) flashable image of just the modem binary for those in a hurry, then I'll work on a CWM zip (need to find a reference one to pick apart in case it's different from the Infuse), then I'll upload a new more complete "unbrick".
Thanks for the donation cgrums.

OK, here's an emergency flash package for modem recovery - http://www.multiupload.com/JTFK1K1FOA
It's just a little too large to be an XDA attachment, sorry if multiupload is a problem for you.
It contains both a raw modem.bin, and a .tar file containing modem.bin (yes, redundant!)
It is NOT a CWM-flashable ZIP. Repeat, do NOT try to flash this ZIP in CWM. Seriously, it won't work!
The following method for flashing the modem IS tested:
Unzip the attached package
Use Heimdall to flash from the command line
Code:
heimdall flash --modem modem.bin
The following method for flashing the modem should work but is NOT tested:
Use Odin to flash the contained .tar file, using the Phone slot for the .tar

Man, before I even leave work! Awesome! Thanks again!

I made an error above - I believe in Odin, modem has to be in the Phone slot not PDA.
As I said in the post above - Heimdall is tested, Odin is not.
As to CWM - the maintainer of the I9100 modem collection frowns upon CWM for modem flashing - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950&page=2 . It sounds like CWM-flashing of modems might have issues on our device, I haven't had time to investigate but right now I'm going to trust pulser_g2's judgement for until I have more time to figure out GS2-isms of modem flashing. I've got a ton of stuff to do and I'm going to drop CWM-flashing of modems in priority for now since it should rarely be needed.

I flashed the tar in odin using phone, the phone rebooted, but it will only make calls. The phone cannot use the internet when the wifi is off. Do you have any suggestions? I am going to try flashing your entire recovery image when you update it tonight.

What does your baseband version say now? If it flashed properly it should say UCKH7.
If it doesn't, it didn't flash for some reason. I know it flashes properly with heimdall, odin is kind of untested.

I had my brother do the factory reset, wiping the user data. That seemed to fix it (although we did flash your modem prior). Thanks so much!

I am happy to report that I am on my way back to functionality!
I've noticed a difference in connectivity though. At times, typically out-of-doors, I get decent signal strength and HSPA+ connection. Call service is a bit spottier than I remember it before the hijinks.
Inisde buildings is a completely different story...I can't seem to maintain a data connection of any type.
My baseband shows I777UCKH7 so I believe the flash went well. I'm planning to flash back to stock to get a good starting point going forward.
Anybody else experiencing similar issues? Thoughts?
This community is awesome!

I think someone did indicate that things were funky until they wiped - not sure though.

One click + CWM ICScrewed = in call audio problem
Hi I used your on click root kernel and then used CWM to flash the ICScrewed ROM .zip file.
Now I am having a problem where when I make or receive a call there is no audio. I still have data and wifi connectivity though it seems.
Could it be a problem with my modem? If so how do I flash another and where can I find the appropriate one?
Thanks, and sorry I cannot post on the ICScrewed page as I do not have permission to post in development yet.

I have no "one click" kernel. Any "one clicks" are repackaged by someone else and I have no idea what they contain in many cases.

[Q] No audio on phone!

Hi all,
I'm new to Android but tech-savvy. I bought an AT&T I777 in the U.S. a couple of weeks ago, got it unlocked, and have been using it fine on my UK SIM.
Then, I got into rooting/hacking etc., and long story short I can't make or receive calls any more. The phone does dial out, and incoming calls ring, but once the connection is made there is no audio. It's as if both parties are on mute. Currently I'm on the Unnamed ROM v1.0.4, but the problem exists with any custom ROM I install, even the stock OS. The only thing I haven't undone (not even sure it's possible) is un-root/de-root the phone.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Chris
Try reflashing the modem. Entropy has a stock Odin flashable modem. Look in the development section. I don't know how to put links up from my phone otherwise I would. He has it mentioned about if losing voice to reflash modem from Odin. Hope this helps and solves your problem.

Here is the stock i777 modem (phone) TAR file.
Your audio shall magically return after you flash this:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XM8SOP22
You will need to flash this in Odin.
Be sure to put this in the PDA slot in Odin.
Good luck!
Fixed (well, reverted)
Hi,
Thanks for your useful advice. Before reading your replies I managed to get my phone back the way it was by getting hold of the stock ROM (file: Samsung_GALAXY_S2_ATT_I777UCKJ1_.exe). I've read so many forums and wikis today I can't remember where I found it, but it restored my phone to its original state and now everything is working again.
I've learned a lot along the way about rooting, flashing, CWM, etc. etc. so I may well have another go in the next couple of days, and knowing that the modem flash is available will give me the confidence to try again.
Thanks again,
Chris

All modems are available in zip format in the sticky thread in the development forum. If you have stock firmware and thus stock recovery, then you can not flash these, but you could flash the full I777UCMD8 package which you can download from the Download Repository. If you have a custom recovery, you can flash these directly from CWM or TWRP recovery. I am not aware of a tar version of any of the modems, so just flash the full stock distribution to get the modem.

Hi, thanks for reply!
Unfortunately even after flashing the full stock distribution I still have the problem. Everything works but still no audio. Sometimes after 10 restarts it comes back and I have audio for a while and then for no reason it disappears. Can you help me or suggest something?

It's always a question, is the issue due to firmware or hardware failure. It is normally considered that the test of flashing back to stock is fairly conclusive on this phone, ie. if you flash back to stock and the problem persists, then it is probably a hardware issue.
You could try flashing an earlier stock, maybe even the original Gingerbread I777UCKH7, and see if that clears the problem up. It never hurts to double check or even triple check your results, but it is beginning to look like a hardware failure.

[Q] Flashed Modem now no signal

I flashed my stock att modem to a custom one hoping id get 4g service on my att galaxy note sadly i now have no service. Is there anyway i can find the original modem and flash and get my service back?
You should be able to find what you need here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28040353
If you made a Nandroid backup prior to flashing the modem, which I hope you did and should always do before flashing something new. Then it's just a matter of rebooting to recovery and doing a restore. Fast, easy solution. I'm thinking what you are missing with your newly flashed modem are just the correct AT&T APN settings. Quick search, find, and enter them, perhaps the better solution since you flashed the new modem to seek a better signal in the first place, may as well test it out. EDIT: CPA Poke's link above has this link listed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1684711. For sure worth a look.

FYI nandroids don't backup nor restore the modem.
No such thing as a custom modem.
You just flashed a different modem, those binaries are closed source, therefore cannot be modified by us...and I'm pretty sure it would be illegal if we did.

True, but a backup's restore got me going again after I played around with modem's trying out AWS for Wind Mobile. Afterward, my SIM became unrecognized when trying to get back on Rogers with various modem flashes, all to no avail. Forgive my comment, it was late and maybe confessed the 2 different situations. But I restored my original backup of my stock gingerbread, baseband (modem) was back and sim recognized. Restored then again to my ICS based ROM I was running before playing for WInd. Then got flash happy with whatever modem in the link below. So...worked for me..

Odin flash from a PC your phones stock ROM is what I would do. Don't forget to save/backup all your important stuff first, because it will wipe everything and bring your phone back to a like new state.

Odin push is the correct method to restore service, but fully wipe the device first....g
I'll try that. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the helpeveryone!1

[Q] Recover from installing wrong kernel - phone hangs on first logo screen

I would be very thankful to anybody who can help me recover my phone.
I have an S2.
I wanted to customize it so I embarked on my documentation on this forum.
I built quite an understanding about what the steps are.
For a lack of a centralized guide I resorted to using
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311081
wary of the flash counter issue.
I was well aware that this thread is for the AT&T version.
I managed to root succesfully (ZergRush).
Unfortunately I had to take a long break in the process (2-3 months). When I came back I only selectively remembered all the caveats.
So the fact that the guide is not for the i9100 version escaped me.
Focused too much on the details of getting the process right that the big picture went past me - I was on the wrong forum!! (((
I installed MobileOdin, and obliviously got the latest Entropy kernel.
It installed OK.
However my home and back buttons stopped working.
Upon realization of my mistake (i777 kernel over i9100 hardware) I tried to recover by installing a CF-Root version (Unfortunately my original kernel version was lost, so I had to guess the version by reading posts with similar situations - Orange UK i9100)
I found a post suggesting to install
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG3-v4.1-CWM4.zip
Again I used MobileOdin but this time at reboot the phone hangs on the welcome logo screen.
If I boot into recovery I get the CWM menu alright.
However I get a list of errors at mounting recovery - see attached photo.
If I select anything from sdcard I just get the fedora hat logo and nothing shows up - have to go back by pushing power.
Any help is very apprecitated - how can I get a proper kernel in?
SDCards do not seem to be read either, just the hat logo and nothing happens.
How can I get a zip with the kernel onto the phone storage so to pick it up in CWM recovery and install it?
Thanks a lot for any input.
Can't you just flash a kernel (Siyah for example) through Odin (not Mobile Odin), or even flash a custom rom through it which replaces your kernel?

If I use Odin won't that increase the pesky flash counter?
I would much rather flash a stock kernel, would that keep the counter the way it is?
If so, could you please link me to a stock gingerbread stock kernel?

That's true, but why is that a problem for you? However, there are ways to 'reset' this counter (search for it here on xda if you really want this). If you have Siyah working, you can enter Recovery Mode again and you can start flashing.

Can anybody confirm that if I flash a stock, non-custom, kernel :
1. The flash counter doesn't increase
2. The CWM recovery console doesn't get replaced
Thanks so much
1) Yes.
2) If you flash a stock kernel (or any kernel for that matter) you will have the recovery that comes with that kernel I.E standard Android recovery in the case of non-rooted stock (if you flash a CFRoot kernel, which is essentially a stock kernel with root, then you'll have CWM recovery). Recovery is baked into the kernel. You can flash temporary versions of CWM that will persist until the next reboot, but if you want CWM permanently, you need to run a kernel that has it.

Thanks for the prompt authoritative answers.
Given the above, can I also please ask for your suggestion to solve my problem?
i.e.: phone kernel is messed up, cannot boot, recovery is unresponsive when accessing storage. would like to keep flash counter down.
hopefully download mode works to flash new kernels (haven't tried it yet have to decide on the kernel)
Should I go with:
a) flash stock kernel using PC Odin, re-root, apply proper CF-Root custom kernel (flash counter not increasing?)
or
b) flash proper CF-Root using PC Odin (hoping counter doesn't increase)
In any case, can you be so kind as to direct me to the proper version of stock and CF-Root? The one I guessed by myself got me in this mess in the first place
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG3-v4.1-CWM4.zip
Or is this one right, if I don't mess it up again with Entropy?
All the kernels should be Gingerbread - since I am OK with rooting it without making a mess of myself.
Ideally, on top of the kernel names, could you please give me a URL to the location of the kernel files as well, if there is a recommended one.
Cheers
Much appreciated
Scenario A.
Your phone isn't working (I presume it's still not ?), your first priority should be getting the phone working properly. Back to stock, then you can root/flash another rom/whatever.
P.S - Forget the flash counter. You seem obsessed with it. It's irrelevant unless you have to return the phone for a warranty claim. In that case, reset the counter with Triangle Away if you're running recent firmware or a jig if you're running GB (and 'old' bootloader) at the time. At the very least worry about getting the phone up and running normally before you start fretting about flash counters.

You are right I should worry about the phone. Probably in denial about it being bricked :s
So yes, get stock back in.
Considering I still have some data to back up from the phone before upgrading from GB to latest (phone was on GB before the messiness), I suppose it is better to get a GB kernel in, am I correct?
In this case, can I please kindly ask for the location of a stock kernel to download? Is it safe to get any version of GB in?
Thanks for helping me with this
If you're currently running GB firmware, the phone won't boot without a GB kernel.
Try Samfirmware or AndroidFirmwares.net. If you can't find the kernel you're after, download the entire rom & extract the zImage from the rom package. You can flash this in the PDA section of Odin. If you don't know what firmware you're running, you're going to have to flash an entire rom. In that case, it probably doesn't make much difference which rom you flash. If you flash an entire rom, you can probably kiss any data stored on the internal SD card goodbye tho.

Thanks to the nice people at http://androidromupdate.com/category/orange/ I was able to locate the exact version I was having since they are storing official versions for each operator.
So I am going to go ahead and try to reflash the correct kernel for my rom using Odin.
My first hurdle is that in Odin 3.07 when I select PDA the file selection box doesn't alow zImage to be shown in the window. I am able to select it by typing zImage.
Is this Ok to start flashing just having selected zImage as PDA?
Seems kinda hacky, especially since here is where you put the whole rom tar.md5.
Should I go ahead? What is the proper why to flash just the kernel with Odin?
Many thanks
The 'proper' way to flash a kernel in Odin is (if you have a package containing just the kernel) is to put it in the PDA section & flash.
Obviously you don't have that; you have an entire rom package & extracted the zImage, correct ? So obviously you'll be flashing that.
Pro tip: Don't use Odin 3.07, use 1.85 (If I see a post from you asking 'But whyyyy ???' I won't be responding. Just trust me).
So as I believe I've already said in a post the other day, you can flash the kernel on its own or the entire rom (which will obviously flash the kernel as well given the kernel is in the rom package). If you'd simply gone back & re-read what was said then, your phone would be fixed already. The instructions were pretty simple/clear.
So it's up to you what you flash. However, you've already been given every single bit of info (and some) you need to fix your phone. More posts when you could be fixing your phone is just delaying same.
I was just about to sincerely thank you for your help, but then again your attitude has surpassed any such attempt.
As a note of courtesy: if it's an ordeal to answer specific questions to well defined problems, don't. Nobody is forcing you to answer - I suppose there are members around here who are more helpful and polite in relating to people's problems. You know, people asking questions here are trying to discover knowledge you possess and have been given by others on your turn. You shouldn't be so anal giving back to the community.
As I was pointing out in my last thread - if you had bothered to comprehend it - what you were suggesting to do was not reflected in practice.
1. Odin doesn't accept zImage files for PDA - you have to hackingly add it in the file selector box.
2. There is no sign in its GUI that Odin accepts zImage file for PDA, as mainly the PDA box is used for full roms (.tar, .tar.md5)
I simply asked for confirmation that your suggested instructions - unnatural as they have turned out to be - are the right ones.
Usually when somebody suggests some actions that are not straightforward they try their best to express themselves eloquently. This wasn't the case, so I only wanted a confirmation.
But you've made it clear this time, think twice before asking for more info around here - incomplete/inaccurate information is something to deal with on your own.
Here is an update with the status of my problem.
I was able to guess out the missing information/step from the previous posts:
The file that goes into the PDA box in Odin has to be a tar file containing the various image files one needs to flash into the phone and not directly the zImage file.
Quick recap: I had a rooted phone with an original branded rom that I had successfully rooted. I flashed a custom kernel (Entropy) that was for the AT&T version of SGS2 and some buttons were not working. I then tried CF-root for Gingerbread (guessed version). After this the phone does not go past the original logo screen when booting. I used MobileOdin both times. Recovery is CWM 4 but I get cache errors, and no access to sdcard works. Download mode seems to be OK.
I have created a tar file with just the zImage file from the full branded rom that was on my phone. (I9100BVKJ4_I9100ORAKJ4_I9100BVKJ4_HOME.tar.md5)
Using Odin 1.85 I have used the newly created tar file to flash.
Everything in the window looks like Odin snapshots on guides all around the web. After clicking start in the first big box KERNEL is shown.
I get:
<ID:0/034> Added!!
<ID:0/034> Odin v.3 engine (ID:34)..
<ID:0/034> File analysis..
<ID:0/034> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/034> Initialzation..
<ID:0/034> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/034> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/034> zImage
And then nothing happens.
I have tried on two laptops, rebooted, installed kies fresh on one of them with the same result.
I wouldn't flash the whole rom just yet, since I still hope to recover some data.
What could be wrong?
I have searched quite extensively for Odin info online but people didn't seem to come across something like this.
Thanks for any help

Expect the SMS and call logs , all your data is safe IMHO. Contacts are backed up in your google account. and Internal SD is not formatted in a factory reset.

also don't worry about yellow triangle and try a custom kernel. You will be able to remove it eithr by USB jig (on GB rom) or us triangle away http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114

As a note of courtesy: if it's an ordeal to answer specific questions to well defined problems, don't. Nobody is forcing you to answer - I suppose there are members around here who are more helpful and polite in relating to people's problems. Jesus, get over yourself. Just thank the person that he or she had taken the time to post a reply and at least try to help you because I personally wouldn't and won't give you the time of day.
If you are too bone idle to look up the solution to your problem and check out other users past experience and knowledge then why should anyone else waste their time helping.

This last one is awash with fallacy and misconceptions, that I just have to keep the flame going.
It shows a complete lack of understangind of how a forum works. It's not that the question asker expects the replier to do the work of searching.
A forum relies on the presence of experienced users (i.e. people who have previously gone through the pains of learning how a thing works) who are checking up what issues less experienced people are encountering.
If they are not so high on themselves the latter more experienced users, who are also keen to return to the community what they may have on their turn been taught previously by peers, when they see a problem they quickly know the answer to, will quickly reply and save valuable effort to the question asker.
It's not that every problem has a solution posted and you just have to "look it up" and you're saved.
Half true answers may delay more. Case in point.
The solution to just put zImage in PDA in Odin DOES NOT WORK.
You have to properly package a tar file, by following guides available on the forum. The wrong assumption that you can just put the zImage in the box has delayed me a lot.
It was false also that flashing the full rom will make me lose my data. I flashed the same version of my original rom and I got everything back.
So thanks to all who offered goodwill help.
Solution was:
Flashing same version of rom (official branded, easily traceable by operator and some basic memoryon officila firmware sites), full rom, that is.

[Q} need baseband for p4vzw or i905

So i flashed a p4 rom and apparently it was not intended for my p4vzw. i know its sad. anyways no worries, got it back on akop, but now i have a unknown baseband. I am searching and searching but i can't seem to find any files on this.
so questions are
1 anyone know if there are radio files.
2 or do i have to get it back to stock and then root again.
thanks in advanced

The easy way would be going back to stock, the other way, i know that you can find modems on http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=3008
One way to fix it
I've had similar issues lately playing around with installing CM10.1 and the modem getting messed up. I did use adb to make a modem.bin backup from stock ICS, but then could not figure out how to flash it. In the end what I did is flash the original stock ROM. Search for STOCK VZW Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G LTE Factory Firmware PDA_HC31_EG01Ba_AP352081user_CP1033580_LTE20110704_0708.tar
That will put it back to the original Gingerbread factory image. It will have to go through multiple OTA updates to get back to ICS. I know this is a pain to do, but my nandroid backup of the OTA updated stock ICS when restored did not restore the modem, and the modem.bin I created from instructions at mygalaxyway.blogspot.com/2012/09/how-to-share-your-nandroid-backup-and.html was kind of useless.

Thanks. But i did the factory image and I still get unknown radio. Odin flashed successfully yet no modem.
I'll flash again maybe it was a fluke
SCH-i905?
You have an SCH-i905?
Yea I do. No matter how many times I flash the factory stock in Odin. The radio doesn't stick
does that mean id be able to use the p4wifi rom? i dont care about the radio files i just want one of the p4wifi roms...
Id love to have the ics radio files to flash too. when I odin the stock image it fixes nothing for me.
So basically I found that my csc file is gone. The Lte factory image doesn't include it. I bet it's on purpose.
What ever the case if we get a csc file for the tab and flash it then flash radios or flash firmware then csc it should work.
That's my guess at least. What's weird is there is no factory Firmware to be found on the Samsung site for the i905. Not sure why.

Please let this happen please
So i am still researching this.
I am going to write Samsung mobile to see if they will release the firmware for the tab. I am sure it has to do with Verizon not wanting anyone to keep that i905 that rooted it or flashed the stock firmware.
I can't be the only one that is missing the CSC file after an odin stock firmware flash. and i think its very odd that samsung has every firmware i can think of except the i905.
Im just taking stabs here.
I am also assuming thats the problem, thats the one part of the /system that's missing.
it would be cool if anyone had a i905 with lte and posted their CSC file.
how would i go about requesting that? just post
"[request] CSC file for i905 galaxy tab 10.1"
i have never asked for a request before.

I have done that. When i flash the stock firmware i still don't have a baseband and i can't do any updates.
I have no problem rooting. I just don't any radios.
maybe i am missing something here but once i flash back to firmware stock the radios don't stick so when i when boot up i get unknown radio and no updates are ever found.

I have the same problem. I tried flashing modem it works fine but when I try flashing lte_modem.bin I get an error in red writing and it doesn't flash. I've tried this with every version of Odin. I used the modem files from the full Odin image. I think it was EG01. I download it multiple times nothing has worked.
k,
so if anyone is interested, i finnaly got around to digging and came up with a processes to get the modems back. its technical and i am sure i am doing something wrong cause i can't get it to get on the network. could be a lte chip at this point. anyways.ill try tomorrow
it must be rooted. go to dev settings and check debug and root accsess: apps and adb.
then download EFS professional. go to restore and restore. nothing will change.
flash original firmware with odin.
once it installs you can see your radios... this it where it stops. I can't get it to access LTE. it has correct time and knows its on the verizon network. but no lte.
I then rooted to see if i could carry my radio files to 4.2.2 and i can't. radio unknown. tomorrow i am going to go to VZW and ask them if its a bad sim. will update tomorrow or when i get around to it.
Update:
So it was a bad sim. once a new one was put in i got LTE but now it wont update. Ha one problem after another. So now i can't flash 4.2.2 cause i loose radio. I believe you have to be on ICS before you can flash to 4.2.2, anyways its been a few days and it still thinks its up to date.
So now i need to know how to force an update..... will update if anything else happens

Downgrade Modem to VRAMC3

I am currently using the MJ9 radio and I am convinced that service and signal strength has been worse ever since. I realize I would also have to go back to Beans 22 or another older rom. I couldn't remember if I flashed I605VRAMC3 Modem or ODIN it. I assume since it's a ZIP and that ODIN wouldn't recognize it that I can flash it?

i assume inside the zip there is no .tar just meta folder and modem.img. i think since its a .zip and no .tar inside, you can flash it.
that did work thanks

nutpn - XDA member Zif posted a recovery flashable MJ9 modem that I’ve been using for the last couple of months with no problems. I’m still on build number JZO54K.I605VRAMC3, but this let me easily update my baseband version to VRUEMJ9. I feel like it gives me a little better performance than the VRAMC3 modem did… it seems like it locks onto 4G a little better and it quickly switches between 4g and 3g when I’m in an area with a weak 4g signal. I can also get a 3g signal down in the basement at work where I used to have trouble getting a data signal at all in the basement. I never did any performance tests to “prove” that it works better for me… this is just my personal belief based on the above experiences. If you want to give Zif’s zip a try, go to this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...b0ad9e7bb4468139f954f703dc7bbc13#post48871165 (Zif's repackaged .zip file is at the VERY BOTTOM of his post.... it's the VRUEMJ9_zif zip file).
I would encourage anyone who tries out the zip to first verify the MD5 or SHA1 before flashing it. (Zif has them posted under the download link). Also, I can not promise that this will work well for everybody, so flash at your own risk.
Also, here’s a link to some good advice on how to properly flash the modem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43217826&highlight=how+install#post43217826
If Zif’s and Dr. Droidberg’s posts help you out, I’d encourage you to give them a thanks.
Good luck.
:fingers-crossed:
Thankyou I appreciate it
So wait. So there is a flashable mj9 out now so We no longer have to flash mj9 with Odin?
Or do we still have to Odin mj9 firmware?
Or is this just another modem that came out recently. I haven't been on the boards for a while. Trying to get caught up on my info.

@iflip, I'm not sure if the flashable MJ9 modem would work if you were upgrading to a 4.3 ROM like N3bula, Alliance, etc... I am still on 4.1.2 running Beanstown106's build 22 ROM. I wanted to try out the MJ9 modem... and the recovery flashable MJ9 works great for me with my current setup. If I was going to upgrade to a 4.3 ROM, I would probably go ahead and ODIN flash the full MJ9 firmware just to make sure that everything was set up properly.

I just received a replacement motherboard for my VZW Note II, its on MJ9 and working perfectly. But I still want to have LL4 modem on it. The phone is OTA 4.3 rooted. Can I down the modem baseband? Thanks in advance.
Hi dr.faramroze -
It seems possible to downgrade the modem to VRALL4 ... but I don't know if everything would work properly on 4.3. I am just curious, but what would be the benefit of downgrading to an older modem? Do you think you might get better reception? If you decide to try to downgrade, I would definitely make a backup of the EFS Partition and keep it somewhere safe.
There are probably a few ways to do this.... but this might be one way to downgrade the modem--- You could try installing Safestrap recovery and and then flash the VRALL4 modem from there. I would first make backups of everything (The stock rom, efs partition, modem, etc...) and keep copies of the backups on your computer or another device if needed for later. (I would guess you could always ODIN back to stock 4.3 if things get really messed up....). Then you will need to wipe Dalvik and cache before flashing the VRALL4 modem.
(If you want to really be careful to make sure you have a good EFS backup, you could also do a secondary backup using one of these tools and save it somewhere safe).

Safestrap recovery can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2704992

You can get recovery flashable modems from scrosler's thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2108510

Instructions on how to flash different modem in recovery were provided by Dr. Droidberg here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43217826&highlight=how+install#post43217826
-----------------
Again, I do not know if this would work and it could mess up your device to where you no longer get service. Unless there is a clear benefit to changing over to VRA4LL that justifies the risk, it might be better to just stay with the MJ9 modem that's there already. (Also, I don't take any credit for any of these developer's work-- so I would encourage you to hit the Thanks button for each of them if their work helps you).
Good luck.
Sorry so long to reply to anyone sick. Ugh so anyway the downgrade works and I actually have data in the office and at my sis in laws. When MJ9 was installed, at the office and sis in laws I would have the same bars and signal strength but intermittent to no data at all. The worse part about the office if I literally walk 4ft away I have full signal strength and 20meg download. I'm behind a kitchen and a cooler, plus sorta underground. To my knowledge MJ9 is required for any 4.3 roms or you'll lose bluetooth and Wifi. A buddy of mind's wife has a locked unroot note 2 with signal issues and Verizon told him they are having tower issues.
