[Q] What is the best modem to use in Canada, with Fido? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been getting alot of wakelocks on the dialer, so i eventually figured it should be the modem. Also I barely ever have full reception bars when this phone is supposed to be a beast from that aspect lol
So i was wondering, which modems are best used in canada with fido? I live in Ottawa Ontario, any feedback will be appreciated!
Thanks

KI3 I am on rogers its running with amazing speed and reception

AT&T Galaxy S II Modem

Hey guys once the AT&T GSII is released will we be able to use that modem for our international GSIIs? And do you guys think it will result in better signal/better speeds? Thanks - currently on KG6 modem which seems to be the best for AT&T (KH3 sucks!)

Hey what's your HSUPA speeds comparing the KG6 vs KH3 modem?
Depends on area mostly, but I get like 4mbs on KG6 (which sucks) and like 1mbs or less on KH3

I wanted to bring this thread to attention again. Anyone have this available?
It will be hard to say until you have a modem from the AT&T version and test it. It can't hurt to test, but the Captivate's modem wasn't interchangable with the I9000, so it's hard to say.

[Q] Modem for OPTUS Australia

How about searching around a bit.
The Australian thread has heaps of info about modems.
I can tell you that KI3 and KL1 have preformed best for me on Optus using I9100.

it very much depends on the reception and the coverage, especially in countries like Australia.
i've tried several but there has been no findings.
the best way for you i believe is switching into Telstra
Why telstra?
And I'm in sydney bondi junction

We were talking about searching xda for answers and links.
My Optus coverage has been awesome and you couldn't pay me enough to go back to Telstra.

It's pretty common knowledge that Telstra have by far the best network in Australia.
Coverage and speed easily out do the alternatives.

It's true though. On average, you're going to get better coverage and data speeds on Telstra than Optus.
Simple reason is that have a better established mobile infrastructure with more mobile towers than any of the competitors.
I was on Optus last year and during peak times (lunch time or after 5pm) it was almost impossible to get a decent internet connection. I couldn't even browse the web. After switching to Telstra, I've had no troubles whatsoever. Even on the train ride home I've got constant coverage and fast data speeds. I watch youtube a lot on the way home and it's never once cut out.
The reason i asked about optus modem firmware is because my internet is crawling to the point it gets disconnected everytime. I'm currently with XXKL1 modem but i see no difference with the speed. I get 1Mb with speedtest.net on average while I used to get between 5 to 7 Mb in Israel with Orange and same phone.

Actually Telstra hits HSDPA+ Vodafone hits HSDPA, while Optus barely hits 3g so yeah just saying. Just use Intratech's post and find one that matches

Optus for me gets H always and a few times H+ and I'm in a rural area not Sydney CBD.
Totally depends on what area etc as to what you get with what carrier. I moved to Optus from Telstra because of better reception in my area.
Some time ago I couldn't get reception with Vodafone but when I went into the outback Vodafone was the best because they spent a fortune on their network to service outback hiways.
Really kl1 should be good on the I9100 but if you have I9100T your better off with one of the modems that came out with that model. All that info is in the modem and aussie threads.

It's pretty common knowledge that Telstra are by far the biggest rip off I've seen anywhere, let alone Australia.
I'll continue to enjoy paying 1/4 of the minimum plan for Telstra, while getting full bars in my house - all while I happen to be in 'another' Telstra blackspot (My parents and friends have no reception anywhere in my house).
They're a joke - if I want 3g connectivity I go for Optus (because of the price difference), when I recently lived in the city I went for 4g Vodafone, all with great coverage/downloads and all far cheaper than the 'alternative'.
Either way, I'm really confused why you posted that when the original post was simply asking for a I9100 modem for a phone on the Optus network...
I'm even more confused as to why you necroed a >2 yr old thread to make a point that's purely subjective/a matter of opinion & a case of YMMV

[Q] modems...

I'm taking a trip to Kansas City in a few days and I'm just wondering if I should use a particular modem while in the area. I'll be on AT&T while I'm there. Currently im using the I9000ugkc1 modem on my telus t959d runing onecosmic 4.2.
No I would say you should get great coverage in Kansas city no matter what modem you have. I've been to KC many many times
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA
excellent, thanks for the info!
Judging by OP's flair, please keep in mind OP is asking about a TELUS Fascinate which is a GSM variant and has nothing to do with Verizon and its CDMA network.
In any case, you really shouldn't have a problem with cell service near any city in the US.

[Q] Best Vodafone UK modem?

What's your experiences with modems in the UK? I'm on Vodafone and not getting great reception and more often than not stuck on 2G which kinda sucks.
Any advice?
I'm on Omega ROM and just flashed LF5 which has probably been the worst modem of the lot.
Thanks
Dxlea is doing the business for me squire however... im tmobile

this says more about voda's 3g coverage to be honest, i havenever had good 3g coverage on voda, then again i have never had what i call good 3g on any phone i have had. Things may improve now the are partnering with 02, network coverage will be doubled in some areas.
I've currently got DXLEA modem. It's nothing special, I get OK signal but hardly ever get above G in terms of network speed
Was fine in my Galaxy S, seems to have gone downhill since I got the S3. I also got it replaced because of pink tint, but the network speed was the same on both handsets
Nele4 that what I'm using on o2 signal is rubbish on the s3 vs s2

Getting Jellybean on the I9300 that works with T-mobile service in the United States.

Hey guys, I am in need of some help. I cannot seem to find the right keywords to return the search results I need.
I know there are plenty of battle tested Jellybean roms for the International (which I own). My problem is getting one that supports the kernels necessary for me to achieve service with my T-mobile provider her in America.
If anyone would be willing to link me to a JB Rom that will cure this ailment I would be deeply obliged.

Umm all the roms have the same frequencies. So u can use the latest leak.
Sent from either Galaxy S3 intl or Nexus 7
both on stock at the moment!!
Try any Rom in development section.

I installed the i9300XXDLI6 (4.1.1) FIRMWARE and I still have the issue of forever roaming. I can select t-mobile as my network and it registers. However, I have the roaming r above my signal bars because my phone thinks I am out of my "international" coverage zone.
So I need a link to a leaked jellybean and or created jellybean firmware that will work with T-mobile service in the U.S.
Hence the reason why I made this post. It is very easy to find a jellybean firmware that will work on an i9300 for a person that lives in the UK. However it is proving very difficult to do the same for an i9300 owner in the U.S.
Any help would be much obliged.

I would have thought that the modem was the problem .

I think your on to something here. I would love to know which modem will allow me to achieve service with T-mobile in America. I know personally that I can rule out the LFB and LG8 and LE8 modems. Any others you think are worth trying? Or do you know which one will for sure work? I have tried googling this before and was unable to yield any results. It would seem that owning a quad core phone for other T-mobile users in America was not a very high priority.

I am using Hot Mobile in Israel and have the same problem. I have tried the modem from the stock ROM with out any success which leads me to be believe the modem is NOT the issue. Anybody else have any ideas. I have the right CSC and the modem from stock ROM but it is stuck on roaming.
The hardware can only connect to certain frequencies, if your companies 3G band/s don't fall under those specific bands, you will ROAM or be on 2G...
You probably ARE roaming on AT&T or a small local GSM provider. A T-Mobile branded handset probably wouldn't show you that if they had a seamless roaming agreement. So you'd see E instead.
No matter what ROM you install on the i9300, it's not gonna fix your T-Mobile problem.

Shouldn't make a difference if you have an international factory unlocked GT-I9300. I originally had AT&T service which was roaming all of the time due to no coverage in my area. I dropped AT&T for a local pre-paid service which is owned by t-mobile, I am no longer roaming (on any rom i've flashed, custom or official). If you have an unlocked i9300, ANY rom in these forums will work on any carrier as long as you have the right sim card.
Power phone off, remove sim card. Power phone on for a few minutes. Pull battery for 30 seconds, reinsert sim card, insert battery, boot phone. Don't know much else you could do. Modem is not the issue if you are getting signal.
BTW, there are plenty of U.S. TMO gt-i9300 owners here, your the first to mention any issue like this.
Yupp plenty of US Tmobile GT-I9300 users on 2G. Hardware DOES NOT SUPPORT THE RIGHT BANDS...

I'm using omega. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663656
So your using Omega, you live in America you have T-mobile, and yet you don't have a little r above your signal bars that means your roaming?

But when I didn't have root the roaming was never there. Or when I rooted and flashed the stock firmware I didn't have it. I don't think it is an issue of my data roaming or my phone not having service in my area. I'm not sure what it is but it has not always been there and only returns when I try to put a cool Rom on it like Omega or Viking.

I got a little excited when I was reading this thread and thinking that there was a way to enable the 1700mhz band so you could actually use the i9300 with T-Mobile here in the US.

You can it just is 2g data. Which is fine if you are on WiFi 90% of the time like me
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I actually have a different problem. TMobile in Seattle has repurposed their 1900Mhz band for 3g. I've verified this by putting in my sim into an optimus 2 that has no support for 1700MHz, and I was able to connect to 3g fine. On my i9300, it just doesn't go above edge. I've played around with the radio forcing it to do WCDMA only, and the darn thing just wouldn't connect. The phone is mostly stock, I flashed it with CWM recovery, and SuperNexus. It's running the i9300XXLH1 baseband which it had when I got the phone. I still get edge and the reception is definitely a modest improvement over an aging nexus one which this replaced.
I think 1900 works in LA/San Francisco as well - if any of you guys have been able to connect to tmobile 3G on a i9300, can you share your config? Worst case, I think I should just try what the ATT guys are using, but any pointers before I start this wild goose chase will be useful :good:

I realize that the T999 version offers the best national coverage, but they've started work on refarming the frequency in Seattle. An optimus 2x which supports a subset of 3g bands of the i9300 was able to connect to tmobile 3g using my same sim card. I couldn't find a better news source, but this site says what Ive seen: okay, I can't post a url here, but the first google result for tmobile 1900mhz seattle. Basically, any AT&T 3g phone should work on tomobile in my area since the optimus experiment was successful.
