How to flash Chinese I9100G ?? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am sorry for the newbie question.
I just bought a Galaxy S2 GT-9100G here in China.
Only after buying did I realise it is a 'G' model. damn.
anyway - I would like to 'reformat' the device, and place an Israeli ROM on it.
I hope I am using the correct terms.
The reason for this - is that the chinese version comes without Android Market,
and other stuff (and the Israeli one does).
1. Do I need to root the device first before I can change the ROM ?
2. If so - I have seen in this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18099806
that flashing the kernel is the only way to root the device.
I have flashed my brother's Galaxy S2 (I9100) a month ago, using the steps shown here:
http://samsunggalaxys2review.org/root-your-samsung-galaxy-s2-heres-how/
(used OdinDownloader and SuperOneClick). Do I do the same with this device ?
Which file do I supply to Odin ??
3. Is there anyway to flash the Israeli ROM on this device ?
or it won't work, cause Israeli ROM is only for I9100 and my device is I9100G ?
If not - what can I do in order to flash a new ROM with built-in Android Market ?
Thanks to everyone who can help !!!

If u flash the new rom to your phone, it no need to root!
I own a I9100T, I flash it to I9100, it work fine, so I think u can flash it to an Israeli ROM.

Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192575
In general, be careful about flashing the China phones. It seems they went out of their way to make sure those phones comply with China's government restrictions.

i9100G got KH4 and KI1 rom, u need to donload insecure kernel to root them

Where can I get the KH4 and KI1 insecure kernels ?
How do I root ?
Just use Odin or do I need SuperOneClick also ?

So, ghmail, are you saying you have managed to do so yourself ?
Change the ROM on an I9100G to any ROM you want ?
On the topic - how can I backup everything on my device ?
I mean - the bootloader, the ROM and all the other stuff I might mess up if I brick my phone ...

Please remember..u cant flash any I9100 custom rom because its diff between I9100 and I9100G..If u flash it the phone will be semi bricked and u need to flash back to the ori rom of I9100G KH4 or KI1..

China GT-19100G-ZCLC2
Hi People, I am a total novice here. I have been reading your forms for few weeks now, since i Bought this SGS II-I9100G in China [Big Mistake ?? :-( ]
This is my phone :
Model - GT-19100G
Android - V 2.3.6
Baseband - 19100GZCLC2
Kernel - 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
Firmware : PDA:LC2 / Phone:LC2 / CSC:LC2 (CHN)
I read thro creezalird pdf user guide and as guessed DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT' dint work with both methods on my phone.
I just want to root the phone so I can install few useful apps, no fancy stuff like flasing or custom rom etc. As you know even google play is blocked. Can someone point me to right link/guide me to do it.
I did read many articles (too many of your forum's) and probably why Im now totally confused. Reason is I do not see anything pointing to ZCLC2. Maybe I am not looking hard enough.

I got it done using superatom's kernel. Now all sw works on chinese phone.

[Q] Rooting the Samsung Galaxy S2 - India Version

Okay guys, First off I apologize if my post is too noobish. Yes I am a noob at all this.
I rooted my phone using steps mentioned here - http://samsunggalaxys2review.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=43
I bought my phone in india with the KE8 update, and now the About Phone section shows the following:
Android Version - 2.3.3
Bsaeband Version - I9100DDKE2
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL 161513
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKE8.
I read about a post for rooting the galaxy S2 here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671
and am a little bit confused. Firstly did I do the rooting with a piece of old software or something? Do I need to do the rooting again or flash my phone with some other latest software ?
Can someone please spoon feed me some info about:
1. Whether I need to infact update my software and flash my phone again
2. If so how?
Thanks a lot guys, and again sorry for being too noobish :S
flash CF-root KE8 kernal as per
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
that way you can keep your KE8 and have Root AFAIK
(take no responsibility blah blah blah)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671
I found this thread here and here they have given source of the Stock KE8 Kernel. Since i have already rooted my phone, is it enough if I just flash my phone with this stock kernel to have the latest software in my phone?

yes just download the stock kernel KE8 and flash over the rooted one, and your phone will still be rooted
Well I have rooted mine yesterday after a 3 hours effort. I think there should be a thread for Noobs like OP and me which will elaborate the Steps & Methods, the Application needed etc. in a Simple way with good demonstration. Not everybody had Android before, so for the new comers this is hard, very hard to understand all these. Like I am now having difficulties with ADB, I don't even know where to install it and from where, how to use it? The devs are very easy with these stuffs and they just mention the software name, but we, newcomers to Android are getting puzzled. It's a like a 5 year old baby has to face class X straightaway.
Some basic faqs SGS1 mostly same SGS2 .

Thanks mate. Just 1 more question:
Firmware info
PDA:XWKE8
PHONE: DDKE2
CSC:ODDKE2
Build date: 18/05/2011
Generic India (ODD): www(dot)multiupload(dot)com/6OZ2KOHB07
XWKE8 Stock Kernel: www(dot)multiupload(dot)com/ZTRYIQ5S35
There was another thread where I found this. Which here should I use? What is ODD Generic India and what is the difference between this and the Stock Kernel?
And btw here is a guy that explains everything in detail on youtube:
I followed his instructions, and did exactly what he did and rooted my phone in 10 mins

This is the stock kernel which came from the Samsung factory. The phone is NOT rooted if you did not root it. You can do rooting with an insecure kernel and then revert back to the stock kernel, keeping the root intact.

[Q] information about rooting

Hello developers,
Im new in this forum and is searched alot about how to root galaxy s2 and always i didnt understand the topic good, so there are more methods to root I readed for example Odin if im not wrong?
So what I want is some help i need to correct everything step by step.
I want to root my Galaxy s2 19100 and install an custom ROM i heard that custom ROMS can handle better with the battery this is true right? And what about guarantee i heard you can unroot if you note all your settings.
please help me here are my phone settings:
Phone: Galaxy s2 GT-19100
android version: 2.3.6
baseband version (? im dutch so i dont know what it means in English): 19100XXK14
kernel: 2.6.35.7-19100XWKK2-CL726411

buildnumber: GINGERBREAD.XWKK2
thank you, and sorry for my bad English

No odin it is a flash tool to flash entire rom or kernel.
Kernel are normally rooted so you can flash a tar file in pda and obtain root and cmw to flash custom rom.
To flash you have to put phone in download mode.
Custom rom have different graphics and some feature but battery life is same.
I suggest you cf root kernel to root and gain cmw.
Also to know your firmware version dial *#1234* and check pda

Please read the Quick Root Guide in Intratech's first post of this thread => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
He describes two rooting method, but as you are running a relatively new ROM, the zergRush exploit method won't work for your phone. (The other rooting method will work fine.)
The easiest rooting method is to flash a rooted kernel, such as CF-Root.
Here is Chainfire's thread => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399&highlight=CF+Root
Stick to his description.
There are a lot of other "good" kernels which will root your phone, increase performance and extend battery life (e.g. SpeedMod, Siyah, NEAK and RedPill).
You will have to search a little bit and then make your own decision.
P.S.: After flashing an insecure/custom kernel, you will get a yellow triangle at boot and the binary counter will be increased.
That's why Intratech and Chainfire also describe how to get rid of the yellow triangle. Or you buy a USB Jig to remove the yellow triangle and reset the counter.

Help with Ace GT 5830

Hello. I am needing help with the Galaxy Ace GT 5830. My friend took it upon herself to try to update to the CM9 beta and it didn't work out.
I've tried helping her by going back to the stock rom that I found however its really random as to win the rom's installation will be a success. Sometime it will hang on the Samsung logo screen and sometimes it will load in the rom just fine but her phone network will not pick up her carrier. Sometimes it will pick up the carrier but later it will lose the connection.
model: Ace GT 5830 (I assume this is the same as the Ace GT s5830)
kernel: 2.6.35.7-perf-CL882825
[email protected] #21
current rom: update-cm-7-20120602-NIGHTLY-cooper-signed.zip
I've been using Odin 4.38 with an included "TASS_v1.0.ops" file (not sure if that's significant). The phone has clockwork recovery 5 installed on it.
I obtained the stock firmware from the Samsung site:
GT-S5830_NEE_S5830XWKT7_S5830XWKT3_S5830OXFKT1 and it sometimes installed correctly but as I said previously the phone network would rarely work.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? No, she didn't make a backup when she did all this unfortunately
Use cooper.ops. Tass.ops is for galaxy mini. U can succesfully flash ace with that mini's ops amaze me
Next time make sure to understand and know exactly what your're doing before u do something stupid that can hardbrick the poor thing

>< I feel pretty stupid. Where can I obtain the cooper.ops file? Most links I find are broken or require passwords. Also thank you very much for the response.
Check here for the ops file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145
(Sorry have to register but it is worth it!)
But...I always expreiance it!Then I pull battery power on agian to CWM then I wipe data/factory reset and it works
GOOD LUCK!
The link in that thread didn't work but I found the file else where. Thanks again both of you. I'll give this a try later today.

Hi
I'm the friend in question he was helping
We've since changed back to stock without an issue, however I've now gone from 5830 to 5830D since apparently that is the only Canadian stock ROM we can use with the correct baseband.
CWM however doesn't seem to install with this particular model now, so I'm stumped at how to get it to install when that model is not officially part of the script.
Is there either a stock 5830 (not version D) ROM and/or CWM file that works with the newer version? Sorry I'm completely new at this so sorry if I'm not asking the right questions
baseband doesnt matter these days, unless your're running the ace from latin america which uses different gsm spectrum than the international ace, you can just flash any stock international ace and got all working perfectly fine.
btw the latin america ace also can use international ace rom, just need to reflash the modem afterwards.
try these, flash any stock ace rom, then flash just the modem taken from that rom for your region.
Ok will try that.
I thought the baseband did matter only because when I tried two other stock roms I was unable to connect to the network afterwards, till I found the one using TLKI4, granted we did nothing with flashing the modem.
No, baseband doesnt matter much. I've been running my ace with chinese, russian, europe baseband and didnt find any difference.
But in the case u got constant network drop, maybe your operator need specific modem for your county/region.

[Q] [Help] How to go back to FULL stock ROM + Kernel Galaxy S Duos GT-S7562

First : Im sorry this maybe the wrong forum in which i have posted, please if necessary move to correct forum if this isnt the right forum.
I have a S Duos and im new to andriod and everything but i did root it and rom it and everything. For some reason i see major battery drainage, so i want the STOCK ROM for my phone. Okay so i hopped onto SAM Mobile downloaded my latest firmware with the appropriate country ( eygpt ) and used Odin to flash it.

now i know theres a million threads on this, but the problem is it tells me to stock flash my latest firmware but its just not changing the kernel
I am new to this andriod world and i need help. Thank you very much

Problem with custom rom

Hello everybody, my device is a Samsung Galaxy S Duos S7652.
I am new at this whole rooting thing, i did my first rooting to be honest yesterday and i chose PMP Ultra custom rom, because it was the best rom for my taste.
Unfortunately i didn't know about baseband compability , and my baseband version was s7562xxlj3 , and now my phone cannot receive or make calls.
I need help, what do i do??
I cant even find my original rom so i can install that, or even a custom rom that supports my baseband..
Can you please help me?
Best regards, Alkis.

I think you are mixing some definitions.
Rooting is providing root capabilities to the phone, this is a standard operation in the *nix world.
Selecting a ROM is formatting the whole system and put a new one and you probably changed the kernel (hence the baseband problem).
Fortunately the phone is not bricked (unable to boot), so my recommendation is try to check if there are other kernels/ROMs compatible and change it.
Fortunately this showed while searching: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42182649&postcount=1708

I would recommend either restoring a NANDROID backup in recovery and if you don't have a backup I would recommend searching for your devices firmware here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/ and then flashing it via Odin. Let me know if you still have questions I'll be happy to help you out.

That's a bit of overkill if they just need the modem, unless it's not been separated out of the original full firmware to flash separately, or you need to update the bootloaders.
To dosadnik2001: Which firmware you need depends on which region the phone is from typically. Sometimes other modems from other firmwares work on unlocked phones, but best to stick with what you know should work right first.
What I do not understand is how the baseband firmware and the custom ROM are related?
I've found some post about changing the baseband firmware and there they say that the ROM doesn't care about the baseband, so you should only change it if there are some optimized baseband that can make your network coverage better. On the other side, I found several post claiming that certain ROM is not working because of the baseband firmware version.
Flashing firmware that is not for your region is again questionable for me. Doesn't this going to mess up somehow the microwave part of the phone and you can have some issues with the network carrier eventually?
Thanks.
