whats talkback? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

whats talkback it gave me an install and update like an app and shows in myapps but dosent come up when i look for it

TalkBack is a screen reader that provides spoken feedback when using native Android applications.
For people with disabilities.
Cannot uninstall unless rooted.
It doesn't read internet pages nor anything beyond your own tablet's system menus and screens. The only and big exception are native applications, basically, Google apps. For example, when you start Gmail, Talkback reads the subject of each mail you tap; when you push any hardware button, it says which has been pushed.

[Q] email app disabled

I've had the basic 'email' and 'exchange services' apps disabled for a long time because all I've used is gmail since the beginning. (done via either rooted phone disable originally, or now just manage apps and disable, no root required) Now I have a reason to use them and while I can click 'enable' on exchange services, the email app is listed in the disabled section but the button on it says 'disable' still as if it was functional to start with..
What's the deal and how can I un-stick it?
I'm still working on this and haven't been able to make much headway. I've also found that I can't install the google keyboard because it errors out saying 'already exists'.
Any helpful information welcome.

I'd disable the Email app, but there were frequent popups telling me is crashes. So I just leave it enabled instead. Also I am aware what the Wireless Emergency Alerts is supposed to be about. It's not illegal per se to disable it, is it?lol
Well guys, you're free to add on to this list if you got anything else. STOP THE BLOATWARE INVASION!
Awesome... Now others can add their suggestions and we can keep the OP updated as we go.
Wireless emergency app will let you disable the Amber alerts, so you can keep the severe weather alerts going.
We might find a dev that is familiar with Verizon bloat and they may be able to help figure out what apps are and do, and what is safe to remove.
How to do this? pm command through adb? Or any app can help?
It is kind of weird since you can't do it through the launcher. Go to settings > application manager. Then swipe over to all to view all installed and system apps. Select them individually and disable them.

How to block in-app browser

I am not sure why all apps are coming with in-app browser. When ever you click on a link in-app browser for the app takes control. I hate this feature.
Is there any exposed module or any other root application which could **** this annoying in-app browser feature apps like Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, stackexchange, tumble and many others.
I can't disable this feature one-by-one for every app

This is the absolutely most frustrating thing EVER. Instagram just opened YouTube inside the damn Instagram app - it was total **** - couldn't go into landscape mode, didn't sign me in/recognize me, couldn't save the link/watch later (b/c I wasn't signed in), and NO LINK to the full app!
This and not being able to choose 'desktop mode" as default for Chome Browser are the two most frustrating things for me as an Android user. Pisses me off so much that I stop using some apps for months because of it.

Palm PVG100 - SMS Messages without Message+

Hi All,
I've been attempting to use an alternative to Message+ (Verizon) but so far I haven't found any at all that will work after a reboot. What occurs is the SMS is logged in logcat but it doesn't pass to the messaging app so there's no notification or read into the app itself.
Anyone using an alternative? Message+ is ok except it wants to use Google Play Services and I get a warning on startup.
Cheers, Andrew
Hi Andrew,
Messages by Google works fine for me, though it's pretty large when installed:/
Cheers
Kristof
Yeah and it requires Google Play Services.
If the device is rooted and all Verizon apps are stripped any messaging app works fine.

how? is there a step-by-step guide?
Forgotten thread?
I am doing some test in this days with Simple SMS Messenger, installed from f-droid.
I disabled the battery optimization and enable background for the app. Then it seems to work, once you started the app after a reboot, it works good, even if I close the all the apps, and load a number of other big apps. Of course I am not granted that the garbage collector will not flush it any more. But I keep going with my tests.
What I cannot find is a way to let it start automatically after reboot.
Note that I still have play services active, though.
