How to help battery life dramatically!!! - Motorola Droid X2

I found this out by doing some research and have tested it and it seems to work really well actually. I don't remember where I read this but there is a system process that runs a lot of cpu cycles after the phone has been charging and sucks down battery but if u reboot your phone after taking it off the charger or usb the process doesn't run and my battery has lasted waaaaay longer. I currently use Tasker to make my phone do this automatically, so as soon as I unplug from the charger my phone reboots. Try it out and see what u think! It works great for me! I just wish there was a more elegant way of fixing the issue with this rouge process.
Just in case you're wondering, I'm running eclipse with speedy v4 scripts.

very helpful, but you are late, we have been doing this since we got gingerbread, sorry to burst your bubble

Yeah it's pretty crazy how it does that. I saw this a while ago but never believed it really until recently, my phone has been more ridiculous than usual after charging, reboot solves it all for me.

No bubble to burst, I was trying to be helpful. Thanks for adding that at the end if your comment though, very helpful.....

I have not heard this of this either. I may have overlooked it.

[Q] Questions about Battery Recalibration

First off, hello to everyone! First post here, even though I've been following the community for about a month now.
Now, I'm running KaosFroyo v38 on my Eris - flashed CFSv6 and all works like a dream. Hell, my camera even works perfectly so far!
But, my battery life was crappy. I just started wiped my battery stats earlier (around 11:45ish), and now at 2:00 it's around 85%. Not as bad as before, but I definitely think it could be better Anyways, after some searching, I've only found a how-to for the recalibration, but I was wondering about the proper behavior for the recalibration. Now, I don't really know how it works, so forgive me if I'm asking a dumb question or if I'm just begging for the Kracken to be released.
Part of me wants to baby the phone, not do anything with it and let it last as long as possible - this is, after all, the reason for recalibrating, right?
The other part of me wants to abuse my phone, do some web surfing, download a ton of crap, and drain my battery. My logic makes me wonder if the battery should get used to the abuse to work better during everyday use...?
There's another part of me that thinks I should just use the phone normally as I would any other day just to find a happy medium between the two.
Then there's another part of me that wonders if any of this really matters at all... and if that slightly fishy smell in the air might be the Kracken approaching....
Just wanted some opinion on how to properly get the battery up to its fullest capabilities, which method did you use when you recalibrated??? I'm planning on continuing the drain/charge cycle for the next couple of days to see what happens, and if not, I'm gonna try flashing KaosFroyo v37 and see how that works, or gonna go back to ZenEXP Eris v7 (which so far has been nice and stable and looooooong-ass battery life, but the Sense seems to be a bit sluggish :/, but overall another beautiful ROM). I'm also running setCPU back a bit at 604 from the 710 that v38 comes set with, wondering if dialing it back a little like I did would help me conserve battery, or if maybe it was overclocked to 710 for a reason and perhaps it's able to run better that way?
Anyways, thanks for taking the time to read!

I thought I showed her already how to get rid of that...
On topic, I followed DS36's recommendations. You can find his thread about it in the Eris Development forum.
Flash the Conaps CFSV6 or CFSV9 Kernel, it'll fix the battery drain. Go to the FAQ page for the KAOS FROYO builds:
As of V38
If you flashed v38 and your battery is Rapidly discharging, please try flashing Conaps CFSV6 kernel (just like you flashed this ROM, from recovery) Here is a link to Conaps kernels and other goodies:
Also, in the ERIS FAQs, there is a sticky that covers how to recalibrate your battery.

MIUI Issue

I tend to try to answer my own questions by reading all the threads around here, but I have actually got an issue that I don't know if anyone else has really run into yet on MIUI on the x2.
Haven't had any problems and have had good battery life so far on MIUI. Today, though, I had the battery fully charged this morning and it was nearly empty by the end of the day (I usually get 2 days on a charge using my phone sparingly). I didn't think much of it and didn't use my phone for a couple hours then went back to it and it was dead.
Now, the phone will not boot past the Motorola dual core screen. I am likely going to simply SBF then go back to either MIUI or CM7 but I was curious if anyone had any ideas on what this might be related to so I can avoid it again later on.
Thanks
Edit: Realized after posting this it might be better suited in the Q&A, my bad!
What does battery usage say? Anything out if the ordinary?
Have you gotten it to boot yet?

Ash has stated that this is a wake-lock issue from some app or service. I explained this in another thread, probably the MIUI thread in the development forum. But, it is a known issue.
He's currently working on fixing a lot of other issues. Per his twitter, he's ran into a road block concerning audio flinger.

it shows the Android OS as taking up over 90% of the battery in there. I haven't ever really gotten too into the battery monitoring business. I've gotten good battery life out of the phone doing what I've been doing so this is uncharacteristic at this point.
I was able to SBF without an issue. So I am back up and running.

Thanks for your response. I do follow Ace and Dragonz on Twitter so I do watch what they're working on from there. (somewhat) Glad it is a known issue so that those powerful guys will be able to address it once they are able to.
Probably about takes care of the thread for me, so thanks guys!

[Q] MeanROM v1.8 Shocking

I properly installed the rom, at least I think so, and everything seems to working just fine. The only thing that worries me is slight shocking from touching the camera button

Sounds like you have somethin grounding out in the phone hardware issue.

I don't see how the hardware could have messed up within a few hours. This was not happening with other roms, I flashed MeanROM less than 4 hours ago. Everything booted up fine, and from what I can see there is nothing wrong with it except for that small issue. I haven't full tested as I'm scared of actually getting shocked.. lol

Maybe, I've ran ROMs that have made my phone feel warmer than usual. I was asking to see what else it could be, beginning to think it may have been my charger.

Perhaps, that's not funny though and rather rude. There was no need to use such a term, as there is plenty of other things you could have said.
All flaming aside, the guys are trying to say something. There is no real way for the ROM to be the cause of a continuous hardware problem such as that. "Getting Warmer" makes sense because of things the Kernel may be doing or RAM intensive background tasks , but a camera button creating an electric shock because of a ROM no. To prove this point (and what you could have done before making the thread specific about MeanROM) is flash a different ROM, and see the problem still persisting

Lol not helpful but funny.... But again I think the guy has hardware issues with the phone like something grounding out which is causing a shock effect not related to the rom ... Hardware issue... I would take it to sprint..

If I take it to Sprint, would my insurance(TEP) cover it even though I rooted? Also, I understand that ROMs should not cause severe hardware issues but, as I'm still a newbie, it was something which I needed some suggestions. On a side note,I've been running the ROM for a few days now and the issue went away after I removed battery and has not come back. The ROM is great and the battery life is amazing, 4 hours of Netflix on 3G at 50-75% brightness for 90%. My battery then lasted another 5 hours on the last 10% with a few calls, texts, and data.
Thanks to all for the suggestions, will keep looking into it and continue reading.

no sprint will not support the phone if they see if its root. they will tell you to reload the stock software. the only way they would support it is if you drop it in water or something where the phone didn't turn on anymore. because at that point they don't know or would know if it was rooted.

Antutu Benchmark

14,520 on Antutu.
Very impressive for a stock device! I guess this would certainly explain why this phone is so snappy! Without question, this is the smoothest phone I have ever owned. On the downside, I'm sure this is also why the battery life leaves a lot to be desired.
Now I'll just anxiously await the ROMs that can help save my battery. Fingers crossed...

Nice bro.
Once they release the Unlock, then we'll be able to root and get that score higher just by deleting all of that Verizon and Amazon crap...
It's extremely unneeded, but I want to see this beast get overclocked to see how high we can get these benchmarks to go.

I'm using a Nextel i830. I must have posted in the wrong forum... Good catch.
C'mon, the device I'm using is clearly listed in the signature you copied to your own reply. That being said, you mention that the 'battery is great' on your DNA. Would you mind elaborating on how you use it? I recognize that you are a developer, and if you are actually trying to help, I'm very curious what the differences are. Maybe I have a faulty device??
- Do you keep wifi on all day?
- Same for bluetooth?
- What about data usage? 4G, etc?
- Is GPS on or off?
- Do you have any apps set to sync automatically?
- Made many phone calls?
- Watched any movies?
- Surfed the net?
Etc...
Yesterday at around 2PM (after posting the benchmark), I had to run to Comcast to swap out my modem. When I saw the line, I thought I was at the DMV. The sign said 'Now serving #24'; I had just pulled # 81. At that time, my phone had been off the charger for approximately 6 hours. I looked at my phone and had 39% battery left, so I figured what the heck, I'll watch some video and let time pass. I use a Bose BT2 headset which is typically intended for phone calls, but it works very nicely for media also, so I used it while I watched The Office on the Xfinity app. About halfway through the 3rd episode (approximately 55 minutes), the phone died completely. Barely 7 hours of use on a fully charged battery. Oh, how a replaceable battery would have come in handy during the last half hour of my wait.
When the phone is on, I absolutely LOVE IT, though I am quickly losing faith in this phone's ability to satisfy my wants and desires in an electronic device. I think I may return to the RAZR Maxx, though I would really miss having Sense... I'll give it another week; I must be missing something, right?? I sure hope so. :fingers-crossed:

[Q] What's up with my battery?

I've heard varying reports of how long peoples' batteries last, anywhere from 9 hours to 3 days. But what seems to be the common theme is that if you use your phone pretty frequently, you'll get maybe 10 hrs, but if you use the phone sporadically and not for long periods of time, you can expect the phone to last through the day and even maybe the next. But with mine I've found that the battery on average will last me maybe 10 hours, but that's with slight to almost no use. From what people have said online, the screen is what sucks up battery, but when I check with GSam Battery Monitor, my screen never seems to break 30% of my battery use. Apps are what usually take up ~45% of my battery. What's up with this? I don't wanna have to buy that stupid Mugen case, because it apparently sucks, but there are literally no other options to extend my battery... any advice? Will post screenshots. Thanks!
GSam screenshots
Also, as you can see, the individual app %'s don't add up to the huge number that Apps is taking up... is that related/significant?

It looks normal to me. Usually the people that are saying they get good battery life are the ones that are on a custom Rom and a custom kernel. From my findings the stock Rom especially with the net updates battery life seems to be worse with each update. One really good combination I have run that yields amazing battery life is CM11 and crpalmers kernel. That combination will give amazing battery life. It also depends on what you use your phone for. Judging by your screen shots thing look pretty normal. I would try giving battery guru a go in the market of you want to get some more juice. Let it learn your habits and it will help with you battery life.
You also have to remember as the device ages and you recharge the battery you can't expect it to remain fantastic like the first day you got it. Like anything else they wear down over time and can only go through so many charging cycles.
Or it may just be your battery starting to go bad. Its hard to pin point what may be wrong. It may be as simple as a rogue app. Try some of the suggestions I mentioned above and post back to let us know how your doing. If your not rubbing a custom Rom I recommend switching to one. They are packed with features and the battery life is generally better.
Anyways good luck. Post back if you have any more questions.

100% agree. Especially with the updates leading to worse battery life.
I recently switched to the DNA from an S4. Unlocked and S off'd. Flashed 4.4.2 Rom and immediately noticed how awful battery was in comparison to my Samsung. I actually flashed an older jellybean Rom with Sense 4+ and now I'm experiencing battery life as good as my S4, even though the S4 has a larger battery and newer hardware.

Thanks for the info guys i'll keep that stuff in mind. I've tried several times to S-Off and flash a custom ROM but every time I try, firewater or rumrunner or whatever im using that time always says 'connection failed.' I've been unable to find any fix for why it's failing, so i've kind of given up. Any chance you guys can link to any super simple instructions?
Like I honestly don't understand temproot and those things. thanks!
