[MOD][ROM][ODIN] RTL+Root (Arabic/Hebrew..) support on your Stock AT&T SGS2 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I'll try to make this guide as noob proof as possible
What does this mod do?

Well, it simply adds read and write support for Right-To-Left languages such as Hebrew and Arabic.
How to

Prerequisites
Make sure you have KIES installed from Samsung's website.
Open Dialer and dial *#*#1234#*#*
Make sure PDA ends with UCKH7
Download the good stuff
Only if you've met all the prerequisites, you may download and continue.
http://www.multiupload.com/VLIK26JUL1
Mirror: https://rapidshare.com/files/3257319546/KH7-ARABIC-EXTRACT-ME.zip
Now, extract the contents to your desktop. You should have two files in there:
KH7-RTL-ARABIC-by-madmack-PDA.tar.md5
ODIN3 v.1.82.exe
Download mode
Put your device in download mode:
Shut down your phone completely. "Now hold down on both the Up and Down Volume buttons and plug the USB coming from your PC into your SGS2. Once you see a warning screen let go of the volume buttons. Hit the Up Volume button to continue into download mode." - Taken from the Q&A Thread
Flashing procedure
Fire up ODIN3 v.1.82.exe from the files that you extracted.
Your device should be detected and a yellow rectangle should appear in this window with COM written in it. (If this did not happen, you need to verify that you have installed the drivers via KIES. Go back to the prerequisites).
Put file KH7-RTL-ARABIC-by-madmack-PDA.tar.md5 that you extracted in the PDA slot. Then hit Start
Wait until it's done. Your device should automatically reboot.
Congratulations. Your device should be able to read and write RTL languages now.
To write in an RTL language, I highly recommend downloading Smart Keyboard Pro from the market. You can enable your language there.
Changes from stock

Rooted.
Deodexed, zipaligned, pngoptimized.
RTL support throughout the entire framework.
Nothing else is changed. Stock kernel, CSC are kept intact. (You shouldn't get a yellow triangle either)
Troubleshooting

If for any reason your device gets stuck after rebooting. Try to factory reset the device by going into Recovery Mode (Pull the battery out of your phone to ensure it is completely off. Now hold down the Volume Up and Down buttons then hit the Power Button. Once you see the Galaxy S2 screen release the power button and Volume buttons.) and reboot.
If you still have issues. Then I recommend returning the phone back to stock using Entropy512's UCKH7 stock rooted package.
I don't own the device myself. My brother (a noob mind you ) bought that device recently and wanted to get RTL support badly on it so I thought I should share that with the rest of you. He has tested the procedure and confirmed it working.

Dose anybody try this rom yet?

it does all this AND roots your phone?
sounds amazing.

no confirmation of the thing working yet.
I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't though. Would be great if any of you that tried it give us a little feedback here

I'm attempting to try it, still afraid that i will need to do factory default and start download again all my apps.

all right guys. just had word from my brother that its working just fine.
he didn't lose any of his data and he now has RTL support.

OK.
Did it.
Working great, the RTL working perfect as a like it.
No problem after half day of regular working with almost every app that i'm using.
Thanks allot.
madmack
any chance that you are going to improve and add functionality to this ROM?

thanks for the confirmation.
i don't intend on releasing anything after this initial release mainly because I don't own the device myself and secondly because I already do work on the international variant and releasing ROMs isn't really my thing. I release them for the international variant because it's what I do with my own device with every rom release and all I do is share it
perhaps when icecream sandwich is released but no plans at the moment.
i want this to be a simple way for folks who bought the at&t sgs2 to get rtl support on it without the hassle.

Hello again
can i use in your rom one of the bat mod that published here:

yes you can.
you can generally flash any mods except the ones that modify framework.jar. this one in particular replaces SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk (you can find which files by looking into the zip file).
you'll need cwm though, which means you'll have to flash a custom kernel which is also fine

More updates:
After several days of intensive use The rom is working without any major problems.
The only thing right now that not working RTL is the stock email that I'm using to sync with my exchange server.

Hi there,
Is there anyway to get the arabic package, without the whole rom. I'm trying to make the ICScrewD rom support arabic, all what I need is to read arabic in my device....
Would you help me please?

Hello madmack
There is new ota update that fail to install in my phone (probably because of the custom rom that you did).
Can i update this new ota but still keeping your fixes?
This update pop up every few hours and making me crazy, do you have any idea how to disable this message?
Thanks.

I'm not sure if you can actually update to the OTA with my rom. it'll probably fail because you have root here. I recommend flashing any custom deodexed rom available here for your device that has CWM recovery. Then follow the steps on my blog to get RTL support in it:
http://blog.devasque.com
I'm no longer supporting the AT&T SGS2 with fully built roms given that I actually don't have the device and it's hard to maintain devices across the board. I only did that once to help my brother
if you follow the steps outlined in my blog though, it should work without any issue whatsoever. after all, it's what i did with this rom here.

Thanks allot.
Your help is very welcome.
I will try your patch on my skyrocket in the next few days.

i have this mod on my stock and it works perfectly.
now i decided to have a rom so i chose the SHOstock.
the question is, do you know how can i flash this on SHOstock?? because i did it the classic way and it flagged the SHOstock rom!

[ROM][ESPRESSO][STABLE][ECLAIR] Espresso No Bloat-ware

Hey Guys, just finished playing around with the kitchen and made a simple modification to the default espresso ROM. Unlike other Roms, this ROM does not have a lots of kernel level modifications, and lots of changes. But this ROM is just the default Rom that came with your shipped myTouch 3G Slide, except that this ROM does not have all the bloat-ware that make your phone slow and laggy. The followings features are included:
Features
======
Espresso UI
Busy-box
Rooted
SuperUser
NANO Editor
Deodexed APK Files
100% Stable (Think of it as your default rom)
Nothing that does not work.
Flash player
Cool Boot animation (Who likes that crappy tmobile boot animation? )
Eclair (2.1) [Tried Everything To Use Froyo And Make It Stable, No Luck, But I Don't Think There Is A Lots Of Stuffs Missing In Eclair)
Some Other Stuff
Removed Stuff
==========
All Crapware
HTC PDF Reader (Use Adobe Reader From Market)
HTC Twitter Client
Stocks
Stocks Widget
Tmobile Visual Voicemail (Get It From Market If Needed)
Tmobile My Account (Same as above)
Amazon MP3
AppPack Tmobile
All other crapware that makes your phone laggy.
As far as i know, there is nothing that doesn't work (Played it with for few days to see if something is wrong). Proximity sensor, wifi, bluetooth, keyboard, all the keys, touch screen, and almost everything works perfectly. Please let me know if something doesnt work.
How to install
=========
First root your phone using this method or this method.
Then put the zip file in your sd card and go to clockwork recovery. Then just install the zip file as you would do with every other rom.
If you dont get what i am saying, check this.
Please let me know if something does not work. THanks
[I am not an android developer, just a simple guy [and a bit of java programmer] ]
I dont think Tmobile is going to give us Froyo within this Dec 15th as rumored by a lots of sites. But for now, lets stay happy with eclair and lets hope they will send the updates soon.
Download ROM
GUYS, PLEASE DONT DOWNLOAD OR LEAVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK ABOUT THIS ROM BECAUSE THIS WASNT MEANT TO BE A ROM THAT EVERYONE SHOULD USE, I MADE IT FOR MY OWN PERSONAL USE AND JUST WANTED TO SHARE HERE SO THAT AT LEAST SOMEONE MIGHT BE SEARCHING FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS. MODS --> IF YOU THINK THIS IS INAPPROPRIATE OR SHOULD NOT BE HERE, I WOULD BE HAPPY TO SEE THIS THREAD IN THRASH FORUM (DELETED)

I used the factory shipped espresso ESPRIMG.ZIP file and modified it.
Awesome.
Reminds me of Slidemeroot5 minus the apps2ext.
What's nano editor, a text editor?
I think Fenix made a rom similar to this. Using 1.35 deodexing it, etc

If you're going to be running stock Eclair, you might as well be using the latest version if it.

Yeap nano is a terminal text editor. That means that if you want to edit some config file or text file in recovery mode or somewhere using adb shell, you can [I think it is better than vi]
What kitchen were you using? Rom looks promising! Also what firmware is this? The original firmware that cane with old slides or newer teaser firmware that comes with newer slides? Also would you like a2ext support put into the rom?

That's not an OTA rom...
THIS is an OTA rom.
OTA brought the retail system (1.27.531) to 1.35.531 and updated the radio as well. If you're linking me to the correct Espresso zip that you used, you've based you rom on outdated system software.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. Has someone flashed this that can check their About this Phone section of settings to see which system version this is?

That is the latest we can use, because the latest ota does not allow flashing unsigned packages, so even clockworkmod wont work there. but you can always install the rom first and install the update.zip for the new ota (that is if you find one) . good luck

Fast and functional. I'm thankful for a new rom to use. Outdated is not an issue. I still load donut on people's G1's when they want stable root. Either way thanks for contributing....I could live without the negative comments.

Pointing out that the starting-point of this rom is outdated and potentially buggy is hardly a negative comment. It's a statement of fact that isn't mentioned anywhere in the first post. People should be aware of what they are flashing.
Improvements included with this update are as follows:
1. Battery Life:
Updates to the T-Mobile online contact backup connection, which will improve battery life.
2. Wi-Fi:
Ability to send MMS messages when connected to Wi-Fi.
3. Genius Button improvements:
Ability to turn GPS on and off using your voice, such as “Turn GPS on.”
Will announce Caller ID for incoming voice calls and allow you to “Answer” or “Ignore” using your voice.
Will announce incoming text messages and allow you to “reply” with dictation.
4. Faves Gallery improvements:
The Faves icon will be displayed beside notifications that appear while the device is locked to indicate that the communication is coming from one of your Faves.
Fave photo display speed will be enhanced.
General stability will be improved, including more seamless scrolling and consistent display of photos

[BETA] STeVEs Kernel 2.1 with CWM for galaxy player 4.0 EU

Hi all,
I managed to port CWM to Galaxy player 4.0 (EU version - not for usa or KR). But I want your feedback to check if all works as it should.
Whats included:
-Voodoo Sound v10 (you need to install Voodoo Control or Voodoo Control Plus)
-CWM recovery 3.0.0.5 (with working su adb shell, usb mount storage, flash updates zip,...)
-Works on XXKPN or XXKPQ roms (or alternatively my custom rom)
-ROM Manager app is not supported: only reboot to recovery function works: don't try to update recovery from rom manager or to flash a rom from rom manager app
Here's the download link:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9TXANJ6S
Please post your experiences (positive and negative) to help development. Thanks!
omg thank you....i have been waiting for CWM for a really long time.....i will give it a try...report to you later
Steve how is clockwork working on the 4 but not the 5. i dont see how its possible that they are even 1 tiny bit different aside from screen size.
have you tested CWM on the 5.0 and know that it does not work?
i would love to know your method for making it work on the 4.

i have read that here, but not sure exactly how.
odd how Sammy made them so software different.
but i guess 2 galaxy 1 devices are not the same, but then again those are carrier specific also.

I have tried the kernel (not the new version) CWM work nicely (I was able to do a backup of my rom )
Clockwork worked fine but I did not know which device to select so I chose the I9000 and now the widgets and apps are messed up. Widgets do not show up, the apps "cannot be found" and the apps were shown with a box with the android in it. Luckily I was able to flash back to my stock ROM with no problems, but end up in losing my data -_-.

I haven't tested on the 5 because I down't have it and sorry but I don't develop kernels for devices I don't own... it will result in bricking your device instead of mine...
I don't think it will difficult anyways... For the 4.0 I used a version of CWM for stiock SGS i9000 as the devices partition and structure is exactly the same.

Obviously ROM manager is not supported apart from the reboot to recovery function. You flashed a i9000 rom on a different device, you are lucky you not bricked your device
Voodoo Control
Ok guys, i succeed to flashing my yp-g1 to this Kernel after flashing the ROM from STeVe from another thread in this forum. I think this rom and kernel work nice enough and my quadrant score is 1420 - 1524, even 1600++, if i run quadrant twice sequentially. Not bad improvement because my quadrant score before about 1408 (2.3.5 Gingerbread).
everything works : Wifi, Camera, FM Radio, Bluetooth, GPS, Voodoo Control (i install this my self), Animation, etc
Notification Area is not clean enough since STeVe write "STeVe's Galaxy Player" on this area.. after i see that, i feel that my yp-g1 is not mine, because there is your name (seriously, literally).
Overall : Nice Job STeVe .... Since it's the first and the only one Custom Rom for Galaxy S WIFI 4.0 until now.
Thank you.

Hello steve, I just wanted to let you know that I tried to flash the kernel on the us version and the only thing not working is the home button obviously. I'm LOVING voodoo sound, the sound is crystal clear now and the hiss basically disappeared!! so first of all thank you, second I was wondering if you could help me understand what to do to use your code while using the driver for the us version buttons...if that's what it is... I'm sorry I have zero knowledge about kernels but I know my way around basic linux(i manage web servers) ..it just seems pretty easy to me unexpert eyes to make it work if its just the buttons. Or if you want to do it I'll be glad to test it for you since I can reflash the stock rom so no bricking risks!

WTF??? A quick Google of SPH-D700 shows that to be the Samsung Epic 4G, which is a Sprint phone. The I9100 is a GSM phone. Sprint is a CDMA network. I hope you're planning on changing carriers if you hope to use the I9100.
Unless you're just confused, and actually ordered a Sprint variant of the Galaxy SII, which is the SPH-D710, or as they call it, the Epic 4G Touch.
Just so I'm clear, the I9100 will NOT work on Sprint's network.
Yea I'm aware that I am on sprint right now. I am aware that the i9100 is GSM, and yes I will be using att.

Hey, I had to check. Some folks just make uninformed decisions and are baffled when the equipment they order doesn't work on their network.
LP6 with my GPS fix works pretty damn well. FM Radio is the only real issue I have encountered. If you want a more ICS experience, push trebuchet or NOVA launcher to /system/app and it will be much better.

It's so popular it's one of those phones - like Desire HD - that's known inside and out Been out in europe for ages, but the US had better carrier specific devices, faster CPUs, etc. At it's core the same device mind.
I was in no rush for ICS but tried WanamLite and all was fine, although the launcher freezes now and then which I put down to a full phone, and an early rom.
This used the CM9 trebuchet launcher. I've got to say almost everything about ICS is cleaner, faster, smoother than previous roms - custom or not. Easy task control, nice display, and little things I still keep discovering like when you connect via USB you get a choice of media device or camera (with the usual USB development option off).
I've had this thing months and must have flashed 50+ roms lol. In the end I stuck with Leomars then the combined Leomar/Checkrom HD because of the kitchen app for easy addons and upgrades.
If youve never used a samsung dont worry, its usually a simple app that will root it and install a recovery console <- very important, cause after that you can flash anything, and as long as you get back to recovery youll be fine. Backup often - complete rom via the recovery (power on, vol down) and a data/app backup with Titanium.
I don't think you need worry about ADB or odin anymore, but if you do just follow instructions on this site...
Your reward? the best phone around esp if the rom you use adds neat things like Jkays extensions, modded apps, kitchens, good theme engine, etc. For pure Android go for AOSP roms, otherwise they're a mish mash of parts.
Change the boot anim if you want, you might get a yellow warning triangle because the sammy knows the roms "illegitimate" but its easily removed.
Finally, should you need to, the stock roms and kernels and modems are here too if you need to get everything back to default, best get them quick as the download sites are dissapearing, or rip yours first before you burn another...
Have fun! You couldn't pick a better handset right now

Just FYI. Bold/Italic/Underlined part is not exactly true. Some of the US carrier specific models have completely different hardware, and have faster clock speeds because they use inferior CPUs.
i got my i9100 today. but i am having some problems trying to get it rooted. using this method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414 when i go to get the insecure kernel my kernel is not listed, and my original kernel is not listed either. So i am not sure if i do this rooting method using any kernel from the list if it will brick my phone or not.
waiting a reply from someone in the threads before i proceed.

From what I can tell, you need the insecure KJ2 kernel. That kernel is no longer directly linked on Odia's insecure kernel page, but there's a link to his Hotfile upload site where all older kernels are stored.

I am officially rooted. Thank you very much. now to get CWM installed!

[Q] Need help! Samsung I9300 wifi refuses to work - new rom? new kernel? please help!

The wifi on my Samsung S3 GT-I9300 device won't work. It just toggles on/off/on/off when I attempt to turn it on. I purchased the phone with the following already installed on it:
CWM
SuperSU
Android Version 4.2.2
Kernel Version - (says here in the about screen) 3.0.31-611730
Build number - Omega v45 - XXUFME3
I've done a LOT of searching here on XDA but I just find myself lost in a world of information. I found a video on youtube, but it's for the S4 and doesn't offer links to the correct files for the S3. Some have told me flash a new ROM and other a new Kernel, but because of version numbers, and not wanting to brick this phone... i'm not sure where to start...
Please would someone be willing to help me out? I am living in Honduras and the service I use is prepay here.. wifi is a HUGE money savings for me here. Many thanks to whoever is willing...
If it is an i9300 then download a stock firmware from sammobile that will work in your country (3G signal). Follow the guide in general forum on how to flash. Factory reset in recovery before first boot.
Test wifi before you install or restore anything, if still the same then it's a hardware fault.

Thanks for the direction!! I downloaded the file, however when I attempt to open it with WinRAR i'm getting this error message..
"! C:\Users\Heather\Desktop\I9300XXUGND5_I9300AUTGNE1_AUT (1).zip: Unexpected end of archive"
I did an internet search for other places to seek out firmware for a GT-I9300 4.2, but so many results come up speaking to a leaked version of Samsungs firmware. I'm not sure that's a safe route to take...
any ideas on what I might be able to do?
have you flash it via odin?
you can get the odin here https://mega.co.nz/#!UdRRyCAT!H4FyVxYynNWvXqRNmnpMGQRCP-dG3uykgP2pT4rh8Ek
for detail you can watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVLyjeqPtn0
i hope it would help you mate

Unexpected end of file means you have a corrupt download. Just download the firmware file again. If all else fails, look for a post in the S3 General thread regarding a complete back to stock method.

Ok...
So i've successfully flashed the stock ROM file that was provided to me in the link above by "Tkkg1994"
The versions and software in my phone is all different than before, but the wifi still won't turn on. I click the button to turn on wifi... it thinks for about 3 seconds and then just switches back to the off position.
Any ideas what might have gone wrong? or what I might be able to try now?
Thank you so much for all the help up till now.. I hope i'm giving out the right amount of thanks and credit to you all. I really hope I can resolve this!

Wifi is related to kernel if you have changed roms ( which also changes kernel) then most likely it is hardware fault you could try flashing just a custom kernel and if the problem is still there then it is most likely hardware issue.

Yikes. Two words I was definitely hoping it was not.
Well.. I suppose it couldn't hurt to attempt a custom kernel, so the next question would be... any advice on which kernel I should attempt, and how exactly do I flash a kernel?
Thank you again for the help!

You need a custom recovery(Philz touch), flash it through odin. Than download googymax2 and copy it to your sd card. Than enter in recovery mode and flash the kernel.

Ok so I've done both those things, and was successful!!
Is there some setting or something I need to change, or would just having installed these files fixed my wifi issue if in fact it wasn't a hardware issue?

Maybe a clean new install of your rom? In philz touch recovery select "clean to install a new rom". than install it. after that, wipe cache and dalvik cache

Leave some posts so I know it works OK, I'm new to this
It would be good if someone could post if this rom was ok, as have a T825 rom built with the same method that I cannot test, due to having a T820 myself. So speak up please
Thank you for this. Now I have to ask a couple of newbie questions. I've been exclusively in the Sony Xperia and Nexus worlds before, this being my first Samsung. In trying to figure out if the processes I've become familiar with are applicable to this device, using your ROM.
For instance, my Sony's were pretty easy after the initial root. Kind souls in the community took new releases and created a pre-rooted firmware with TWRP and SuperSU built-in. I could then just dirty flash the ROM from TWRP, sometimes wiping cache/dalvic, and like magic my device is upgraded with no loss of data.
Is this how it works with this AQF5 ROM? I'm starting with a rooted (@ashyx method) T820 with AQBB. Do I just download the rooted ROM to SD card, boot to TWRP, dirty flash and go?
Thanks again!
Hi,
Dirty flash should work, sometimes I try that first and if I get any strange behaviour, do a wipe and re flash then load the rest back with titanium backup. Make sure you have all your backups organised first before starting.
Let me know how it works out. The risk with the first option is something residual being left that may result in force closes or just defeating the purpose.
Just beware if for some reason it doesn't root DM verity will occur and you will be forced to format internal data so back that up to your external card too, before, just in case, shouldn't happen though. I have no idea how many others have used this yet as there have been no replies to say all ok

Not sure I can use this ROM in Germany, what kind of modifications are made? Would love to see some development
As long as you have the same model T-820 you can, some local variants have a local customisation but it's likely to be minor with this model. From memory when I set it up on mine all common languages were available, if that's your concern, make sure you have a twrp backup and you can always roll back
The only mods were as listed above, seems slightly quicker, perhaps the zip aligning, but it will allow more mods as they come along

I have always wondered about that. Flashing a base from another country. Like I live in the US so I always have flashed USA versions. You are
saying that I CAN flash this Korean version on my T-820 phone and have all working ok with English ?
Thank you

For the record, I don't live in the us but bought mine from best buys whilst there, it was rooted within a couple of hours from memory,..... can't help myself ?.
I Flashed a firmware from another country after that,, just because it was a later series, can't remember which.
I use the Tweaked one as my daily driver, people seem to be finding that good. I have found the latest firmware now seems to carry out a full wipe, and I haven't managed to flash a rom over it yet, so reverted back to the Tweaked version I have.
It may require an update to TWRP
If you have any problems restore your backup, if you want to persist flash the firmware that its based on first,AQF5, then flash the ROM over it, with our without wipe.

Thanks,
This rom is not being developed any more, but the tweaked version in this forum, is based off the stock firmware which came after this,it runs stable, has a few enhancements and being a later base it's got a number of Samsung security updates too.
