I'll do what I can to help you out.
Best email program - I only have exp with Gmail & TW email. I like them both
Organize programs - AppZorter
sync music - there are a bunch of software that can do it: Kies, Samsung Media something, Media Monkey. Google it & you'll probably get more results than I listed

here is a list for you buddy on what to remove and not to...
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...SENVeXlqUm5vV0E&single=true&gid=0&output=html

to get the apps sorted better i prefer using a different launcher. Launcher pro is the one i use but any of them will put them in alphabetical. Cant believe samsung dont have an option in touchwiz to do that, seems quite a basic omission.
email i just use the stock one but k9 email is also pretty good.
not sure what you mean by the voice commands, you should just tap the home button twice and the voice control screen comes up

Best email: K9 Mail.

point is the standard everyday user shouldnt have to come to xda and download a modded theme just to get the app drawer showing alphabetical. Its a pretty standard request from everyone and a pretty big omission from samsung.

true and i fully agree with you and the way you sort folders in touchwiz is pretty **** compare to the go launcher..but still i think the update of touchwiz fixes all of that now

What exactly is Buddies Now? I'm on JI2 and it's showing as 'installed' but it's not in my app drawer. I'm considering removing it but want to make sure it's not a background service that I want to keep.
It's bloatware garbage that comes with the phone. Perfectly safe to remove.
So it has no functions? Lol.
Will it break the Facebook account sync for contacts if I remove it?
Nope its one of the Samsung Widgets that come with the phone. If you dont use it or don't use TouchWiz as your launcher its useless.

Speaking of useless, do you know of any alternatives that would be a good replacement? I posted in this thread here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10460755#post10460755
Looking for suggestions.

[Q] Noob question about Android multitasking

Hi guys, ive looked all around the web trying to find a solution but i cant say i found something yet so here it is.
I have a Nokia N900 right now and as much as i like it, its getting old, so im slowly looking for a new phone.
I feel like i might have been spoiled by the N900 multitasking and i want to know if my requirement for my new are possible to have.
So here it is: Is it possible to multitask with multiple instances of some applications? Really its only for email and sms, so i can for example copy text from one email, paste it in another one that is also open at the same time and can switch back and forth between them. In other words, can i have multiple sms/email conversations opened at the same time (one conversation with bob, one with jack, one with dave...) i often have more than 10-15 of them open at the same time on my n900 and if there would be only one reason for me to keep my phone it would be that.
I looked for multitasking apps with grid view hoping it would do that but from what i see you can only have one of those apps running at once anyway and it might seem crazy but for the number of time I switch between conversations on my n900, like i would using WLM for example, this could be a major dealbreaker for me if its not possible.
I'm sorry if it looks like a stupid question or something but ive completely missed the bus regarding android/ios/bb developpement as i used wm6.5 then switched directly to maemo5 2 years ago.
no one, really?
I don't think it works this way on Android, though you just might be able to find an app that does this.
thanks for the input
Sup Neo! I too went from the N900 to a GSII and I find myself not regretting it at all. There is no TRUE multitasking like the N900, at all from what I have found.
I'm not sure if any apps have been made available for such multi tasking, but I don't think anyone here who doesn't have N900 experience will understand what we mean.
Now it just needs an N900 writer to make something happen for android. Otherwise, I do NOT regret switching over, I absolutely love the speed and freedom of my new phone. The N900 was killing me on simple tasks like sending and receiving MMS, or connecting to the internet without destroying my battery life. No regrets.

Yo. Most Android apps can support multitask on its own UNLESS the developer has puposely disable it.
iOS and Android don't run in Windows style, ie, you can open 2 Mozilla Firefox windows at the same time. Copy and paste work the same as the pc.
So I guess you would have problems in the multiple email opening thing, most phones cannot.
So my suggestion is to keep your N900 as a email phone and change to android or iPhone as your main phone.

Having two phones would suck, and I'm sure he would get over the whole multi tasking issue after a week of using the SII
But I have to say, nothing is as impressive as bouncing around from different windows, and different text messages, and different apps as much as you want.
You just can't substitute for it

Ok OK so Android does have "True" multi-tasking
I would like to see it have Multiple Visible applications running at once and accessible between each other. Maybe that's what we should say when we want to see "Real" multitasking, and not just "true" multitasking.
Once again, still satisfied, but we have a craving that we want to fill as well sometimes.
I would like to see android implement this. Webos(palm/hp) had "card style" applications windows and it was epic. That's said, I'm back to android. Just sayin

Hmm, depends what kind of multitasking you like, the one that actually let's you fully quits apps or one that is fully automated, meaning that you just use it without doing anything and still feel the multitasking, ie you press the home button and it still runs, however you may not notice it, until u use the same app again. However, this means you have to restart every night, to really close the apps, otherwise android will manage for you.
So it means that apps run indefinitely, and when you reopen the app, it will revert to what you did before, you can complete task like scanning eg those with a progress bar and you will see it filling the bar until completion even in the homescreen or other apps, and as I said, unless the developer wants to close the app when you are not using it.

That's Androids Multitasking in a Nutshell, completely understand how it works and it does work well I might add. But it's just the extra step of being able to visually locate the running apps and access them. If you look at your Task Killer for example, you see the running tasks correct? But in order to use them, you have to navigate to the app and click it, no matter where it is on your system.
What I would love to see would be more of a Click and Open option to viewing your running tasks. Sort of like a back screen when you Zoom Out of your desktop on android. The same way you can see all of your desktops, you would be able to see all of your running apps and select which one to open, or to close.

That looks very interesting, is that for ICS? Even if it were for only one instance of each app, it would be more than we have now.
I just hate going from one app, to sending a text, to opening that app again. But I am not dying without it, that's for sure

Yup I just discovered that and it works like a charm. Not a replacement but for now that will satisfy my needs.
Look, I'm not arguing with anyone here, just explaining the idea behind what us N900 users were used to and how useful it would be if implemented in android, this is all.

I suppose this is your first android phone? We're having a discussion here no worries. Yeah but if android were to use the window thing, there would be 10-20 Windows everytime. That's where the homescreen comes, just drag all your frequently used apps there and done, the so called window is done

Andriod multitasks. You can have a ton of apps open at the same time and switch between them. However you can not have more then one instance of the same app running. So while you cant open say gmail and open multiple mails in seperate frames you can still switch between say a web page and mail.
There might be so great mail apps out there that handle mail seperatly, im just not sure which would do it. Bottom line,x the android OS is more then capable of doing what you want. Someone just needs to make or find the app for your needs.

That's just it, that would be the thing I KNOW android doesn't have yet wish it did. We all know we can't have more than one instance of the same app running at once, that much is clear. But having it would be the part I crave, and I'm sure others as well.
Imagine being able to reference to a previous text with someone else whenever you want to while working on another text with someone different.
Like I said, I UNDERSTAND YOU CAN'T DO IT, I just wish you could!
and I wish people would stop explaining it to me lol, I KNOW, and I'm not asking for anyone to tell me how it works. I'm just saying, it would be nice, this is all!
also, being able to bounce from Xterm to open notepads or texts to anything, now that is how you process info on a phone. We'll never be satisfied, but for now I am.
Thanks for the replies fellas.

[Q] CM7 ICS prefinal

Hi,
I cannot see an option to setup an email account outside of corporate or Gmail. I did do a search through the forums but came up empty.
Have I missed something fundamental.
Tried setting up the POP account through the corporate icon but of course it could not communicate with the server.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sydpark

Can't you just select "email" from the application list and go from there? Once you type in the email address and password select "manual setup" and configure it accordingly. You will need your outgoing and incoming mail server etc etc.
If that doesn't work for you for some reason you can always download K-9 mail from the market. Its free and has a ton of features.
Good luck! Let me know if you still need any further assistance
I think I'm going to give this rom one more shot today. I like it, but I'm not so crazy about the on screen buttons at the bottom. They seem redundant to the ones already on the atrix.

Yes, they are launcher based, not Android based.
I really don't know how the real ICS would work on smartphones with harware keys. Redundant and i hated the ICS Launcher on this ROM just for that reason.

I have so very many questions I dont even know where to start. Just like it said in the video I am a noob so this might even be in the wrong section.
For the starters a few questions come to mind (and yes, I did use the search button, viewed tens maybe hundreds of forum pages) so please would someone be so kind and help me with following
1] In the browser, when I click bookmarks, I find local but under that two other empty folders with my gmail adress but both empty. How do I remove them?
2] How to properly setup mail for exchange. I have my gmail and hotmail accounts added. Sometimes they work sometimes they dont and how the widget updates is really beyond me.
3] One thing that really bothers me since I like to keep my devices clean and arranged is uninstalling apps and games. I noticed that after uninstalling some files remain.
4] Another thing is that mostly with trial versions of apps, I cant seem to find them anywhere in my files folder therefore I cant check if after uninstalling all the junk is removed.
Besides that I can say that the phone is pretty good although the build and the pentile is kinda let down but enough has been said on this forum on that subject.
Thank you for your answers.

The same issue as on all computers... messy apps. The files on the sdcard do not really belong to the app so Android cannot delete them automatically. I agree that it's a terrible chaos after trying out several apps which is very annoying. Sadly that issue is present with all computers including GNU/Linux, Windows, ...

You cannot see the app installation folder since the system hides them. All you can see is the before-mentioned junk.
The files in the correct folder (=the one you cannot see) are always correctly removed.

You must have very good eyes to see the difference between Pentile and RGB matrix. Are you even sure you relaly know what the difference is and what it means for you?

I'm also new to the SGSlll and I have a the same questions that were answered and it helped a lot but I got a couple of my own if it's not to imposing to ask,
1) Somehow the green call button that used to be beside the number or the name of the contact in the logs section disappeared and I know I can swipe to call it, but I would like that button back because it is easier for me. I don't know whether this was gone from the recent update.
2) why is there some games and apps that I can't find in play store, I tried to DL them from the Internet and it said you can't DL them in your country (Egypt) is there anything I could that will allow me to DL them?
3) Is there any ways to create a folder so that I can put all the games together for example??
Thank you very much and sorry for the inconvenience as I said am still new to andriods.

Restrictions can be imposed on multiple levels
- Hardware specs (notably display resolution)
- Android Version
- Hardware name
- Country
- Carrier
In your case it seems to be the country. There are multiple descriptions on XDA and other sites, but afaik all of them include using a Proxy server. It's not trivial but unfortunately the only method for accessing them from the Play Store.

Not on the stock launcher afaik. You can create folders on the home screen but not in the app drawer.
There exist several other free Launchers in the Play Store capable of creating folders, try them out.

You can create folders in the apps drawer by clicking the left menu button > edit. Then drag an app (you should be able to see an empty folder icon at bottom left corner) and mount it over the folder icon. The app will now appear in a folder. Rest of the apps can be moved to the folder as well and you can name it whatever you like. Be sure to save the setting at top right corner. This folder can also be dragged to the home screen menu. Hope this helps.

That works well, did not know this. Personally I like to use Apps Organizer by Fabio Collini (on the Market for free). It also gives u the opportunity to create folders with your themed apps (i.e. games / tools / navigation / ...) The advantage here is that you can select your own icon for the folder to go on your home screen. Especially if you have a lot of themed folders (like I do) you can create a much nicer look this way.

Yes I've checked settings and nothing and I do know about Go Contacts but that's not what I need. I event did factory restore settings to see what went wrong and nothing don't know what to do really.

The call button on the right side was removed in the LFB update. Samsung probably thought it was redundant and I agree with that. They could have made it optional though.
At the moment there's no way to get that back unless you replace that particular apk (dialer.apk maybe) with the older version of it.

Thank you very much for your help, I also think they should have made it optional :good:

The only RGB Amoled I can compare the S3 to is the S2 and it's very obvious on first sight that the S3 kicks the S2 with sharpness and detail.
(I'm not including the S1 which is far below both in terms of resolution)

it sure is better than s2 i know.
another thing thats bothering me is that in my sgs3 and whole android so much stuff is synced shared dropboxed and other virtual sharing stuff that I feel like my own phone isnt private anymore.

That's fully configurable. Dropbox doesn't upload anything except you actually tell it to.
Go to Settings->Accounts->Sync and disable the Sync accounts and settings you do not need or want.
I'd recommend syncing Contacts+Bookmarks through Google and using SMS Backup+ to sync call logs and SMS.
With those present, even a lost/broken device would be acceptable in terms of data loss to me.

Your Preferred SMS App?

i'm not a fan of handcent and looking to move on from GO. The stock HTC just doesn't do it for me either. Any others I should be checking out?
thanks!
Other than the ones you've mentioned, Chomp is decent. It's not the prettiest, but it's pretty quick and functional.

I've only ever used the stock app and had a dumbphone before the Rezzy. What are you getting out of other sms apps that you don't get from the stock one? What am I missing out on?
I used to love chomp until the changed the quick reply popup from black to white background. Im currently using handcent and havent found a replacement yet. I didn't like go sms.

Better handling of large message counts, pop-up reply/compose windows, more customization features, etc. The pop-up windows are the biggest things for me...you can send, receive, and reply to messages without leaving the app you're in.

Oh, I like that... which one do you use?
I use gosms. I absolutely love it. It's way better than handcent. It has everything handcent does (emoji, pop ups, customization) and more like:
A very clean ui
Option for different running modes(i use lite mode. It has no addons and runs fast)
Emoji. I can't stress it enough. It has better encoding. On handcent my iphone friends had problems viewing it but on gosms it works great.
Private box. A locked in box where you can receive messages without people seeing them. I have all the conversations I have with girls in there.
Group chat. No need to download 15 addons or pay like handcent. All you have to do is go to send settings and turn on "mms group chat". Works flawlessly.
All around gosms is so much better. Don't bother with handcent or chomp.
Used to use Handcent then switched to GoSMS. Been using GoSMS for quite a while now.
seems like i might be sticking with GO. I don't dis-like it, but it seems even the "lite" mode is becoming bloated. I like the stock htc app except when downloading group messages or attachments it takes forever, unlike GO which would show up immediately.
Be weary of GO products. I noticed a while ago (when I stopped using them) that they seem to use a lot of data ... I wonder what they could be doing... And what data they gather... Anyway just sayin
I stick with stock aosp on cm9. I'm normally a go sms fan for all it's features but I hate how it's always running while aosp isn't. I personally think go devs implemented unnecessary services into it.

Well I would use AOSP but it lacks emoji. All my friends have iphones and holy s*** do they love their emojis
The stock version from the Ville C Sense 4.0 base.
Specifically, Nils' Business ICS 4.0...
Yea, I just use the stock messaging app. I also use SMS Popup to get the popup window with the quick reply, delete, etc. And if you really want emoji there are ways to get emoji in android with special font files. I dont care about them so its no big deal.
I'd rather have an SMS app that's not running nonstop since SMS apps with emojis have excessive services and such running. waste of battery when you aren't using it. even if go SMS is configured to not run persistently there's still unwanted crap running

You must not text much because everyone uses them and those font files are for them to show up in black and white.

Well you obvious don't know what your talking about because the reason why mine runs nonstop is to receive messages. If you uninstall stock message(which btw runs all the time ) you need to make sure gosms is the one receiving messages. Also it doesn't waste battery its like a 5mb process that runs in the background. There's no unwanted crap...

You can't really say that. I average around 1000 texts a month and I have never once received a single message with emoji. People I communicate with don't use them.
