[Q] What camera app do you use? - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

So since the original camera app by SE is beyond retarded by compressing 8MP pictures to 4MP sizes and below what camera app do you guys use?
So far the best I've come across among the free apps is Camera360. It doesn't compress images as much if you set it to 90% quality giving you a 2-3MB pictures when set to 8MP and 90% quality (though I played with some settings and now it's only creating 1.2-1.6MB pictures, but it's still noticeably better than stock) so I guess I need to try the paid apps next.
Anyways I was just wondering what does everyone else use in an attempt to get the most out of the great 8MP sensor on the Neo?

really?
is this when enabeling something or zooming in?
or just when taking normal pictures....

Go put em on PC, you won't find a single one above 1MB regardless of your settings. If you set it to 2MP you get a picture that's 150kb-290kb. 6MP gets you a 500-700kb pic. The Arc and as far as I know all SE phones are affected by this "feature"/bug
If I take a 6MP pic with out point and shoot dediacted 6MP camera it's usally 2.3-3.4MB big.
If I take a 5MP pic with my Nokia Navigator I get a 2.3MB-3.5MB pic.
In other words SE is compressing the 8MP pic to WAAAAAYYYY below the size it should be.

Might be true, but for most things, you won't notice the compression.
I use the stock camera app and Vignette, mainly for the effects. It has 84 effects. There's also a demo.
I'll try out Camera 360 aswell.

You'll notice it the second you zoom into any pic you've taken on PC. The quality is then barely better than a 2MP pic.

just took a picture in Vignette, quality superfine, 8mp. It's 5,99mb. Mind. is. blown.
just go to filestube.com and search for vignette or buy it in the market. Also just tested the speed to make a photo from the homescreen. Stock app was a second slower than Vignette, camera360 was 3 seconds slower. Vignette takes a picture and processes it on the background, so you can take another picture right after another.

Vignette doesn't do normal pics though?

Right I've been testing Camera Zoom FX, Vignette, Camera360 and the stock cam and in my opinion Camera360 takes the best pictures because it has superior image stabilization to Vignette (unless I just haven't found anything), then Camera Zoom FX and lastly the stock cam.
The stock cam captures much less extra detail than the others.
Basically since Camera360 is the only free one I recommend everyone tries it. Watch out though, if you set it to save 100% it compresses it's images the same way the stock cam does but if you set 90% you get the best this app can take.
This includes any Arc owners that come across this thread.

Yeah I found that. Still can't find anything for image stabilisation though.
I seriously think Camera360 Free takes the best pictures.

LoL, i never needed an image stabilization,
Even if i enabled it in stock SE cam app, i noticed no difference
Vignette is best snapper and the best editor(especially when editing in full resolution)

All my Vignette pics come out shaky to the point that it looks terrible.

It really has so much options, but it processing pictures takes quite a long time (though you can use everything on your phone meanwhile).

Have you used a pirated version or the paid (or the trial). Maybe you could try some other versions. You can also find older versions.

i just snap picture using normal camera and edit it later using apps like picsay, picplz, photo enhancer, etc ^_^ so far so good

The point in this topic is that the stock camera app compresses photo's too much, so we want to find out which camera app makes better looking photo's

3.1 MP is standard. There should be a button (second one from the right) with the resolution in it (e.g. 3.1MP) if you click on it, you should be able to choos up to 8MP.

I can't get Vignette to take good pics, they end up even worse than stock despite being 5 times as big (I'm talking about shakyness/preservation of small details). Camera360 Free consistently takes better pics though. Unless SE fix this issue I reckon I'm gonna keep using Camera360 Free for all my still shots that don't require zooming or vids.

Amaze camera on Evo 3d

Not sure if you guys have seen this yet but it works on our CDMA. Image quality much improved. Love the additional options and 3D picture capture works. I couldnt find another thread so if this is double post I apologize. Apk also available for non rooted phone it looks like.

Igor has done great work with this port. Dont forget to thank him if you found this useful.
EDIT: Panoramic and burst doesnt seem to work but the other options are a welcome addition.
Update
0.11
1. Codec H264 is automaticaly used for 3D video recording.
2. Flash is always turned ON if flash mode is "ON" (when taking picture). It is very useful to see what you are shooting when taking picture in low light conditions.
0.10
1. Added option to set 50HZ/60HZ antibanding.
2. Removed video format selection. It doesn't needed! 3GP and MP4 are just a containers. Video encoding bitrate is the only important to reduce file size.
3. Added codec selection (H264/MPEG)
4. Enabled video encoding bitrate selection for 720p and 540p
5. Added more bitrate choices.
0.09 - removed because it always saves video into 3GP container
1. 3GP/MP4 video format selection
2. Added Camera version to Tutorial title
3. Universal flash script rewritten
4. Added autobuilder to sources in git
Not the best subject but the quality are superb. No flash just florescent lighting

On the thread it does say not tested so I'm not sure what the results would be and also says if you have FC issue then try the 1920x1080 version. Have you tried the other version? Unless those apk are GSM specific then that could be why they arent working on your device.
Edit: Looking at this post it seems there are libraries that also need to be modified so I think this may only work for rooted phones.

I just tested this out, everything seems to work correctly on the most recent version of 1920, except fastburst of course, but just read the post and you'll see.
As for 2048 it does indeed force close after taking a 3D picture.
Overall this does work well, i'm not sure if I like it better than stock though as of now.
Just tried this out on non rooted phone .2048 apk installs a seperate camera app .not sure what does and doesn't work coz I'm the type to just open the camera and take a snap...gotta say clarity is much better and also the picture from the front facing camera is also a lot better

Thats a good question but even if it did and you dont happen to like that rom it prob wont matter. I rather have it as flashable so I can flash it on any rom I choose. Just my opinion
Once zsl drivers make it over, I'm pretty sure every ROM is going to include this camera.
you guys may want to go over here. its listed in the GSM but it works also for the CDMA.
[MOD] HTCCamera from Amaze 4G(rooted stock rom ready,2048x1152/1920x1080 in 3D), v0.8
i have it on my 3d...but they are still trying to work out some of the bugs.
i cant wait till its working 100%
Two problems:
-The highest video quality that I have to select is 1280*720 (even though I downloaded the 2048*1152 and have read people getting 1080p recording)
-When I press the button to switch to the front camera, it still does my back camera, but the picture is upside down.
Edit: Ok, for problem one I found that 1080p is only available for 3d recording. I just wish I could adjust the bps for 720 recording like you can for 1080p.
Problem 2 persists.
Agree the amaze camera is well amazing lol

[PHOTOS]LG Optimus One Artists! =D

Hello!
UPDATE: (Complying the Requests)
"How to take good photos with your LG Optimus One (P500) [But it works with ALL PHONES!]"
FAQ:
1 - Which Camera App I use to take nice photos?
The Stock Camera App is the best to take sharp photos! (as well as the CyanogenMod native cams)
I recommend ProCapture as an nice alternative for Stock Camera. (It has several config options)
2 - What are the settings to take nice photos?
Always set the Picture Size the higher resolution possible! In the case of Optimus One set resolution on "3.2M Pixels", set the Picture Quality on "Super Fine", no Color Effect, Flicker Reduction on "Automatic" and NEVER! NEVER use Zoom! (because digital zoom is CRAP! Unless your phone has Optical Zoom!)
Other factors:
1) Ilumination:
* To take photos by day, set White Balance on "Daylight"
* To take night photos (or lowlight) set White Balance on "Cloudy".
2) Distance from your goal:
* To take Mid-Range photos like people portraits or big objects, set Focus on "Normal" or "Automatic".
* To take Landscape photos, set focus on "Normal" or "Infinity".
* To take Macro photos (very close photos) or small objects, set Focus on "Macro".
3) Exposure:
If necessary, adjust the Exposure of your Camera to achieve better results in dark ambients. *I don't recomment to set Exposure more than +8 or the picture will be very noisy.
TIPS
1) If you like to make Macro Photos like me, improvise a place or object to not move the camera while taking the photo and set Timer on capture options to reduce the Blur. (so you can use a flashlight to illuminate the object with your hands if necessary).
2) Have preference to "hold" the camera button until the object becomes focused and the square target becomes green, if it turns red, slide your finger to the camera center to cancel the photo and try again. (this avoids blurring photos)
APPS RECOMMENDATIONS
1) ProCapture (Nice Camera App with all configurations that you'll need!)
2) Pixlr Express (Best App to adjust photos and to add Filters, Effects, Overlays and Borders on photos). * Try the "Auto Fix" option, it has shown me great results!
3) Afterfocus (Awesome App to make Focus adjusts like as if they were taken on DSLR Professional Cameras!)
* sorry about my english, if I made some gross grammatical errors, please correct me! (pm-me)

I can only speak for myself. All my shots taken with the official Samsung camera app. If I apply a filter, I only use apps on my Alpha. For those shots I used a filter in Camera360. The only other editing apps I use are Adobe Photoshop Express, VSCO Cam and Snapseed. All android apps, and really only a few filters.
Thanks for your explanation gavinfabl!

Only modification i have done is cropped and sharpened the first pic in picasa (it is called google photos or something) app. rest of pics are taken with stock camera app, because it seems to choose shutter speed and ISO more adequately than other apps. If someone knows app, that would prefer longer shutter over higher ISO please suggest.

Picture Stabilization because it appears to
leave shutter open longer primarily for low light shots but can be used other ways.
I think the trick may be to put phone down or Tripod mini etc and voice actuate the Camera to avoid motion on longer exposures.
Everyone else REALLY nice , sharp photos !
Some think it is the exact same sensor as S5 but lowered to 12 megapixels in firmware.
Is it sharper than S5 ?
Here is an example of using picture stabilization AND moving exposure up to +2 for a night shot in Miami Beach- it was much darker than it appears here and I rested phone on Latte Cup and voice activated shutter because this is a long exposure ( HDR must be off to go up to +2 exposure) .

With Alpha are you using a Tripod to get it so sharp and possibly using picture stabilization for longer exposures in daylight even though not needed ?
Or are the filters sharpening in edits ?

No tripod needed with the phone. It's got a good camera to start off with.
Some say Alpha is same Sensor as S5 but clocked down to 12 megapixels in firmware.
Do you think S5 is more detailed and sharp than Alpha ?
And will S6 be in your hands soon so I can get your opinion on that one ?

RAW shooting with HONOR 8

Hi,
I was little bit dissapointed with no option to shoot in RAW mode.
BUT...
I installed my fav camera app SNAP CAMERA and inside photo option i found possibility to switch on RAW (DNG format).
and guys...it works !!! I processed DNG files with Adobe Camera Raw and realy its much more better quality ...dynamic range, noise, shadows, over exposure, higlights etc. Everyrhing can be processed with right editor and behavied like true RAW format...
So try this solution

Open camera is a great choice . it doesn't have compitability issues like snap
Sent from my KIW-L22 using Tapatalk
But, I think, open camera don't use booth camera chip, only one. You can see it very well in low light condition
Can anyone confirm that any 3rd party camera app (Snap Camera, A better Camera etc.) uses both lenses? I tried to cover one lense and compared the pictures and barely noticed a difference on Snap Camera and Open Camera which suggests that they are only using the main lense.

Second camera is not used for RAW capture. Shooting with both lenses requires the software to blend the 2 captures into a composite image which can only be done as a jpeg, just like any other in-camera effect. I'm using RAW capture in emui 5.0 and frankly I don't see much improvement by shooting RAW on this phone. In fact I think you get better low-light and better HDR performance by shooting with both cameras as a jpeg.
In EMUI 5.0 stock camera has RAW option in "Pro photo" mode.
Simply shooting in RAW format doesn't make your photos look better than jpeg. But editing a RAW photo can help extract much more details as you can seen in the OP example.

Exactly, this will output a regular .dng file which many editor apps like Snapseed can process for you; even the built-in gallery app will do some raw editing adjustments. It gets you far more data in the highlights/shadows to pull out of your photo when editing exposure and color in post.
Sorry to derail this, but I was wondering.
I have a P9 Lite. Several 3rd party camera apps can shoot raw dng, but I'd like to enable that option in the stock camera app. I notice pro mode on the P9 and other higher specced emui 5 phones allows dng capture so I had an idea.
I went out on a limb and tried editing /system/emui/lite/prop/local.prop and set ro.build.hw_emui_lite.enable=false, however I still can't find how to enable raw dng capture in the stock camera app.
Any ideas, tips?

What is Google Camera (AKA GCam)?
Google Camera is the camera app for the Google Nexus and Google Pixel phones. It is not designed or intended to be run on other phones.
What is HDR+?
HDR+ is Google's proprietary image processing routine. HDR+ employs image stacking to control exposure, and also to preserve details, reduce noise, increase sharpness, etc. It is an all-in-one package.

The Night Mode is very noisy. I think the Stock Night Mode from xiaomi is more accurate.

I agree. Gcam has better details in daylight. The main benefit IMO is using the 3.7x lens. It is so much more detailed in gcam, especially indoors.
And, of course, astrophotography. You can't beat that.
This appears to just be links to the two best known Gcam dev's Gcam versions rather than specific versions for the Mi 10/Pro.

Hi! one question, I installed the app en de XML..but how can I toggle all the lenses? Kind regards Tom
Depends which app you installed, after some research (actually hours of playing around) I came across some apps that have the option of adding additional lenses.
Several of the Gcam 7.4 I tried were not stable so I m using Urnyx05's 7.3.018. version 2.1.
I ve attached my config, you have to go into settings and enable the other lenses, I dont think the config enables them. (edit: it does on ports that support it, edited XML)
It might also be worth following the Note 10 Gcam thread too, as the cameras are the same, the same apps and configs should work too, although I ve not tried them yet.
Install burial beta 7
https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/cfiles/gcm1/GCam_7.3_Burial_release_beta_7.apk
Then apply my in customized xml attached and you will be happy
Tried 4 different cameras and none are saving night sight pictures
It takes the picture, a preview shows in the bottom right, but then it just disappears
I ve had that sometimes, now I just cant view pictures via the camera, got to go to the gallery, using burial and the config 2 posts up.
It takes like 20 seconds to save night sight photos and I don't know why
Usually show up is photos app after 20 secs
Probably cos its stitching all those images together. Not that impressed with Burial tbh, lots of noise in night mode.
Does the gcam record hdr video in 10bit bt 2020 Color space at 4k 60Hz or just 8bit?
Anyone else not not able to use other cameras with ARNOVA8G2?
FAQ says to tap the screen and a tree will appear. I see no tree.
I've taken a photo of a toy cat and some printed text/pattern for comparison. I keep hearing that gcam blows the stock cam out of the water but I just don't see it. The stock photos are much warmer indoors, but I have lightroom mobile on my phone so that doesn't bother me too much. To my eyes, the stock app does a much better job at resolving fine detail and I have no idea what the gcam app is doing in the 3.7x zoom. Also the portrait mode, while probably sharper than the stock app, doesn't really do much background blurring.
For selfies, I get it. I think gcam captures more detail but I always need to touch them up because gcam seems to pump up the red channel far too much.
Here's a dropbox link to the photos.
These were all taken with Urnyx's 7.3 v2.3: GCam_7.3.018_Urnyx05-v2.3.apk and the yan1.xml config file.
EDIT:
I've found another gcam version (Burial) which gives me better results. I also tested out the Lightroom camera which I am a big fan of. There is more noise in the Lightroom photos but there's also more detail. The best example of the difference in detail is to look at the dark grey around the text. In real life it's a very fine cross hatching. The stock camera renders this as a mix of diagonal lines, hatching and smudges. Gcam does better abut renders it more as black dots to the right, pretty good in the centre but a little smudged and then diagonal lines to the left. The Lightroom camera looks more like the actual pattern, albeit with more noise and less sharpening. It does soften as you move right to left but it's the most consistent of the three.
Here's the Dropbox link.
Lightroom is also much warmer but again that can be easily dialed in. For the purposes of this I've just left everything on Auto.
Not sure which one I'll use. I might need to do some more testing.
I ve been using Burial 7.3.018 months, waaay better than stock, you can add each lens too.
