harlo.. im afraid its impossible. but rooting arent that hard and if u want the root to be unroot, jz do a full installation via SEUS or PC companion

i think root your device will be correct way to gain more speed. btw, if u are not so-in ur device, rooting should be fine since u are not going to mess ur device. root only meant something when u utilized it for customize ur phone core files, if not, rooting simply meant to gain some speed, but not at all, bear in mind, it is all at your own risk.
can try any task killer app to gain some speed without rooting.
p/s: i read somewhere else, 2.3.3 is fast because the rom are set to be full at all time, not like 2.1 and 1.6 the rom stay empty until u run some app. (not so sure)

Just got a Sony Ericsson X10 and it has Android 1.6. I want to upgrade to the latest version of android and want to enable features like multi touch.. How do i upgrade my phone? I dont know anything about android and most of the posts here have just confused me
Hi - and welcome..
Go to the Sony Ericsson website and download and install SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) to your PC..
Fire that up and follow the onscreen instructions (carefully)..
That will get you upto the latest version of the firmware for your phone..
It may NOT be the latest available firmware though depending on whether your phone is customised by a specific carrier/ network?
If it doesn't upgrade you then look settings and about phone then tell us the country and customisation info in there..
Good luck..
If you're feeling brave you can root it too.. and do a load of other stuff.. (took me a while to build up the courage to get into all that side of it.. but was worth it in the end, cos phone performance can be improved dramatically)!

Greets alamode, congrats on your new X10, and welcome to xda.
First off, it's great to hear that you have at least tried to find a place to start with your Android, and I know it can be rather daunting, as well as time consuming.
- If you're only interested in official Sony Ericsson (SE) Firmwares then you can just simply connect your phone to your computer after having installed PC companion on it
and follow the instructions. This should give you the latest official rendition of Android for the X10 which is 2.1 and includes dual touch.
- If however you wish Custom Firmwares which go well beyond anything that Sony could ever offer than I would recommend after having updated through PC Companion
(above) the next step is to 'Root' your X10 which allows you greater access and control over your device and the ability to 'Flash' (install) the many custom Themes, Apps, and ofcourse Firmwares(ROM)s

Thanks for the quick reply guys !..
Well yeah i heard that rooting/flashing your phone opens up a whole new world for you so im definately interested in that. i've heard Sony ericsson wont upgrade X10 to latest versions of android? Can we still update them after rooting/flashing our device?
Anyways ill update my device first from Sony ericsson then.. After that i'll have to root my device? Since i dont know much about rooting/flashing can someone just guide me as to what that is and what it does? Whats the difference between rooting and flashing?
And thanks guys you lot are helpful !

Um No...
Trying to update but keep getting this : unable to install or start phone software update components
Try doing a repair first then try the upgrade..
For rooting.. go to this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906248 download Superoneclick to your pc and run it from there..
Rooting will give you access to the system files so if you start rooting around in there deleting things then it can be dangerous - but you can always reflash/ repair using SEUS.
Rooting will also give you the opportunity to install custom ROMS which you'll find on the Dev sub-forum.
Would also recommend that you install JIT once rooted, as this gives a big performance boost. You'll find that on these x10 forums too.
Alright.. This is so frustrating. Been trying to root my phone all night but not really able to get anywhere.. Here's what i did..
First i finally upgraded to 2.1.. I used another PC and somehow it didnt give me the error i was getting earlier at the other PC. Not sure what was the problem there.
After upgrading to 2.1 i decided to root. First i used the SuperOneClick file to root my phone. After rooting, I installed BusyBox and then kept installing xRecovery but with no luck. xRecovery would just not install !!! I coped the apk file and ran the install from the phone, I got the icon but after getting the icon when it comes to the installing part it just freezes and after a while i get an error which gives me 2 options, Either to force close or to wait. I tried the other method too, the pushing method using X10ModTool and that didnt work either. After lots of tries and after getting extremely frustrated i uninstalled the apps and tried to start fresh.. I unrooted my phone using SuperOneClick and decided to root using z4root. I got the icon in the menu for z4root and i clicked on permanent root.. My phone restarts but i dont see the SuperUser icon anywhere.. If i try to install BusyBox it keeps on saying that its trying to get information..
So, So extremely frustrating !
Oh and i forgot to mention that after upgrading to 2.1, my Phone seems to have become slower while swishing between screens..
Which build number version do you have as the Superoneclick is for 2.1.A.0.435 and 2.0.2.A.0.24.
2.1.A.0.435
Im just not able to get root access ! Ive tried X10 Flash Tool, Ive tried SuperOneClick, Ive tried another software as well.. I just cant seem to get the root access..
I Installed Root checker and everytime after i root i check and it says that you do not have root access.. :S
help !

Install xRecovery and then you can even upgrade your phone to 2.2 there are some good ROMS available on this forum, you can check this -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=617
Thanks. Yeah i have xrecovery installed as well.
What is basically a ROM? From my understanding its a customized firmware? If so, Which ones the best at the moment? I cannot compromise on functionality (as in i dont want that i cannot use bluetooth/camera/wifi or some other feature because of the rom). So basically i just want a stable rom in which i dont have any limitations. Also what is the advantage of using another rom anyway?
Thanks !
Okay.. ran a few of those optimizations and stuff and the phone is running a bit better. Can you guys tell me what is a good Benchmark score for Stock 2.1 on x10? im getting 33.4 MFLOPS right now.. is that alright?
I still am experiencing a little stutter in the menus, so i installed LauncherPro and that seems to have taken care of it.. I dont understand why cant i get the stutter to go away in the original home screen?
Lastly, Another problem ive been having.. My mobile is connected via USB but instead of it charging up, It is very very slowly losing charge. It went from 95% to 89% in around 45-60 minutes. Whats that all about?

For me the best 2.1 ROM so far is bluesparks, it is very fast and stable. Everything works in this ROM.
As for a 2.2 ROM, i just love wolfbreak's CM6.1.3 v4.3. Everything works except for the camcorder. For getting the camcorder to work you can download video illusion from the market. The quality wont be as good though. However this ROM is just too good. Too fast and stable with good animations.

Is this the 2.2 Rom you were talking about:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945264
Secondly, If i do install this ROM, Will all my applications and everything be deleted? Is there a way to just simply install the ROM and keep everything as it is?

Yeah, that is the 2.2 ROM I was talking about. Make sure you install the correct one depending on your baseband.
In order to keep everything, make a backup of your apps using titanium backup. You can then restore your apps after installing this ROM. Thats what I did.
Wolfbreak has given another way here:

Ah thanks, I might go for 2.1 cause of the camcoder.. Any chance of a fix for it coming in 2.2?

Some questions about bootloader and rooting

Hi!
This summer I'm getting my first Android phone (Xperia S), and I have some questions about rooting. I would post this in the Development section, but I don't have 10 posts.
Since I'm a power user, I want to root my phone, but since I never had a smart phone, I'm not that familiar with the rooting process. I know what bootloader and rooting itself is, but when I'm reading the guides, I'm not completely familiar with all the terms and whatnot.
I only want to root my phone, without using any special roms or anything. Should I keep my bootloader locked or should I unlock it? Does this affect the updates in any way? If I unlock the bootloader, will I still be able to update the phone or will I need to relock it?
Will I need to reroot the phone after each firmware update?
If you have any additional hints or information, I would be glad to read it.
Regards,
Klemen
The main benefit of rooting your phone is you can install any software you want, some apps need root permission, you can also customize UI, tweak performance, making a better battery life, etc.
on this device, you can relock it. If you doubt about your warranty, you can use the rooting with locked bootloader method. but you still need to relock if you want to claim your warranty in some cases. I hope you will not.
my advice is just use to your phone first, you enjoy with keyboard, texting, surfing on google play, bla bla bla. You will find the answer why you want to root or not.
I already know that I want to root my phone, the main reason is to get rid of the ads.
I'm just not sure, which is the preferred method of rooting it. I'm curious what's going to happen to future updates if I root the phone (some say, that every firmware unroots the phone).

I've numbered your questions in the quote, and made them bold for easier explanation.
1. Considering your last post (you want mostly to remove ads), I would recommend keeping it locked. For rooting it and installing CWM Recovery (I can try to explain what this is, if you don't know), you can follow this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1742992
2. As said by XGAdev, you must relock your bootloader if you need to send it to warranty or update using either SUS or PC Companion. But you always can use Flashtool for updating. Just download the original firware you want, put it on the right folder and flash it.
3. Well, the answer is on the second one.
Right now, you just want to remove ads. In no time you will be heavily modding it, theming, etc. This also happened to me
If you need anything else, just say it. Press the thanks button if I was helpful enough, and if you want to press it. If not, just say it
My opinion:
Keep the BL locked, so you don't loose the DRM Keys, and follow the Root with BL Locked Guide to obtain Root Acess...
Unless you really want to have a tweaked kernel you wont need to Unlock the BL

Well, for starters, I'm only going to root the phone. After some time, I'll maybe consider trying other ROMs.
Any ROM can be used in Locked BL (rooted)?

What will i benefit from rooting my xperia mini pro ??

Hello guys,
Can someone tell me the benefits of rooting the phone ??
I know how it is done but cant find a reason for it.
So, stating some reasons would help making up my mind.
Thanks
It allows you to:
1. Gain superuser rights
2.Remove all the bloatware e.g. Xperia hotshots
3. To install cwm through which various mods and roms ( supporting locked bootloader) can be flashed
And many things more:

Link2sd is a big one for me as the memory on a mini is pretty low and you dont have to worry any more with this installed also as above you can get rid of all the bloat.
I also had an overheating problem and a fix was on here very quickly but needed root for it to work (no problems since )
Also if you generally like to play with stuff and try things new root is needed to really get to grips with the help on here.
I got ics from here before it was available for my area also.
Finally its FUN just follow the instructions to the letter and if your not sure dont do it.
with root u can install root xplore n titanium backup lol
the most importan app for android user
root is the same as administrator for windows
bootloader unlocked means u own the device :good:
Rooting ur phone wll give u tp use many apps. Dont hesitate to root
Sent from my X8 using Tapatalk 2
With rooting, you will get access to many useful tools for android otherwise can't be used.
For starter, people above me have mentioned before have mentioned some useful apps that can be used in root-only hh.
Titanium Backup is an indispensable apps for your phone to ensure your apps and crucial data inside it won't gone. It can be used to remove useless bloatware, as well
Personally, i use ProxyDroid to bypass the proxy on my campus. Note that unrooted phone has no way to set global proxy.
Of course, rooting will give you access to abundant Custom Rom in the development forum. What is the benefit, you ask?
First, you don't need to stuck to Sony-made UI if you don't like it. I believe someone will say to just install third party apps to make up for it, but you can't just replace the entire UI with it.
Second, you can control the performance of your phone. It is the so called undervolt and overclock stufs. Playing with this, you can determine how the phone play, the way you like it, whether you make it gaming powerhouse (in the cost of battery and overall hardware) or just make it use lesser battery.
Hope that help

Its a choice. But it's such a weird question i think. Maybe its not the benefit. But by rooting your phone, you can customize your original OS. there are many Phone's OSs (ROMs) developed by our friends. Its customized, there are things thats not include in the ori OS. Or maybe you want an app that's not coming for your phone's version, but available in other phone, you can get that by install it yourself.
BUT becarefull when you decide to try to root your phone. And you must be patient, dont give quickly when you failed
This Was Posted Before ,Use Search Button
Link2sd, market enabler, ads block, v6 supercharger and setcpu.
That is my top 5 of reason to root

Practical reasons for me to root.
1) Removing bloatware.
2) Adblock.
3) Easier to use screenshot app.

1.Full Control over the Hardware
2. You can customize your Device like never before
3.You can cleanup your system unbelievable clean.
4.You can use much more tools which requires a rooted device.
5. Tune your screen like to Amoled, that push your smartphone experience like a rocket.

You probably mean 4.1.2
There is no rooting method for 6.2.A.0.400 as far as I know other than unlocking bootloader and installing custom kernel which you may not want to do.
6.2.A.1.100 is easy to root, try to run PC Companion and see if there is update for your region. Be sure to backup your data and export contacts you may lose data updating.

[Q] Xperia Sola Firmware and Root question

Hello!
(First at all, sorry for my English)
I have just bought a Sola with 2.3.7 Gingerbread. The phone is fast, and this firmware is very good for me. I tried the ICS on other device's, but the gingerbread better for me. But the main thing i bought it is for the USB HOST. I made a cable, and it's working with mouse, keyboard, and older pendrive. But i.e: 8gb or higher is not compatible, because it's power supply need more power. I saw youtube video with usb hub, that may work, but everyone say,i need to upgrade to ICS and it will work well. I try to read many hours about rooting,firmware-s,and so on. But some things i can't understand clearly:
1. Everyone wrote about root without unlock boot menu. Why is itt better without it? I read many post, when people said, unlock bootmenu lose varanty ,but other forum's talked about it can close back, and waranty wont lose..... Which is the true?
2. I read posts about rooting, but i found only one way, like: put ICS , root ICS, backup rooted files, put back Gingerbread. Is this the only way to root, and keep Gingerbread?
And the waranty is the question. I read the waranty paper of my,but it doesnt contained everything about rooting.
3. Can i save my official (stock) firmware now, when it's original state, and flash it back if i didn't sucess whit something?
The main thing,if possible,i would like to keep Gingerbread. But if someone can propose other way,i will finally reconsider the matter.
Please write, everything could be helpful for me.
Thanx!
Have a good day!

Dear Pa4ka16!
Thank you for your answer!
Only a few thing's i need to know,if you know the answer's please reply.
I downloaded exactly the same firmware that i have now ,from the web: mt27i_2.3.7_6.0.b.3.184__vodafone europe(universal)
How should i do the ICS upgrade? Download it from web,or let the PC companion to do it? (Because it show me every time i connect to upgrade)
I read post that told,if i upgrade via PC companion, there's no way back roll.
And the last question: after rooting the ICS ,save the files i need, and put back GB, can i use the stock firmware that i wrote upper,or i need custom fw?
The only thing i would like to do,is rooting the phone, nothing custom firmware,or anything else, just the original i have.
Is this possible anyway?
Thank you again for reply!

The only thing i would like to do,is rooting the phone, nothing custom firmware,or anything else, just the original i have.
Is this possible anyway?
Thank you again for reply!

u could go one or another way, personally I suggest to upgrade with PC Companion because u will get the latest update there. and what do u mean by roll back...? I f u mean that u can t go back to GB that's nonsense, ofcourse u can, only by flashing with flashtool ofcourse.
To root GB u need stock firmwares
hit "Thanks" Button If I helped

Yes yes,I mean "roll back" to put back the factory firmware. I found a post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063029
Now i see,i have to upgrade with PC companion the 6.1.1.B.1.54, after that downgrade to ....1.10 ,then root, and take back the GB. Hope it will work.
