What can I do about 3G speeds? - HTC EVO 3D

I have been getting unusable 3G speeds for the past month. I can't get past 100 kb/s, average around 50-60. Is there anything I can tell Sprint to try and resolve this, or somehow talk them into getting out of the contract without the etf. I have never had a problem with Sprint, but if I can't use anything other than WiFi I shouldn't have to pay for it. I know I am not the only that has these speeds and it should be brought to their attention.

You can just continue to take it. Sprint is giving a lot of us the shaft with poor 3g speeds.

Imagine if everyone had that kind of attitude.
I don't mind Sprint. The point is that when I opened my lines 3G speeds were usable, not out of nowhere they are not. I shouldn't have to pay to cancel a contract when they have completely prevented me from using 3G. I am not the only one. Why should we just bend over and take it? If it wasn't for the persistent efforts of dedicated individuals HTC would have never provided an unlock for boot loaders (as ****ty as their technique is).

I had the same problem and got a brand new phone due to bad motherboard its.worth checking out

If by attitude you mean thinking rationally and with a little common sense(not directing this towards you specifically).
Sprint is not going to come to your home and put a 3g tower in your back yard so the smartest thing to do is take your business else where..I agree you should not have to pay to get out of your contract but what choice do you have?Either turn forced roaming on and use verizon towers until Sprint cancels your service for you.Or continue to try and get them to waive the ETF
So to keep on topic here..What can you do about 3G speeds? Nothing much really, you either have a good 3G signal or you dont.(barring your phone isn't defective)
Sorry man and good luck.

As popular as the new iPhone will be. I have a feeling it won't be as popular on the Sprint network as it wasn't on Verizon's

I'm on my way out also. I just ordered another phone with a competitor. I have had enough with sprint dropping the ball and making mistakes and making the customers pay for it. They can keep their $350.00 cancellation fee and all the other upcharges. If the new service works at my house and work, I am out. All these people that keep siding with sprint while being bent over really need to get a grip. I have been a customer for 7 years and to be treated this way is a joke. 3g speeds are nonexistent and anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves. I rather be throttled than not be able to use my phone as a data device.
I have no 4g and hardly one bar at my house. 3g will only work on the airave. Even after all this they will not let me out of my contract. Even the customer service rep sided with me this morning. Yeah...I know i'm complaining and why don't I just leave. Well paying to get out should not be something I have to do when they are not providing there side of the deal. I have a $100.00 cancel fee and at this point it seems worth it to just bow out. If my other service doesn't work then I will fight till the fee is waived and ride contract free.

Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
I don't think this is necessarily a sign of bad things to come. It gives them the option to start limiting usage I'm sure, but doesn't mean they will. It probably is a useful tool for them to track trends and load on the network for future development and maybe decided to make it available to their users. Either way, we're most likely going to be grandfathered in to an unlimited plan if they do start capping their users.
That's because people tether off 4g. Since you can see it online now, it shows if your abusing it and you can also see it for yourself. They are up to something I agree. I know sprint says unlimited but please don't fall for that. They cancel people all the time for going over the invisible cap

i think we all saw this day coming!!! there is no cellular company out there that doesn't track their customer's data usage... those days are over... yeah sprint figured out ppl were hacking the wifi hotspot for free so now that they track it they can catch ppl abusing it. As soon as enough traffic hits verizon's lte, they will start tracking usage too if they already dont'.
Bound to happen, too many people stealing hotspot, too cheap to pay for it.

While I agree that none of these companies--even our under-dog Sprint--can be trusted farther than we can throw em, the fact that the amount of "tether abusers" are FAR out-numbered by people using the NASCAR app, youtube, facebook, tweetar, etc etc etc....I'm sure the bandwidth discrepancy, in aggregate, is also equally tilted towards the average joe users vs "tether abusers"....
Don't overestimate the size of our little niche community. We are but the smallest sliver of the user-base of the smallest (after the ATT/tmob merger) carrier of the market. There are more people who would be lost without the sprintTV app than there are Sprint smartphone sceners. Sure, we are a loud minority, as evidenced by our action at and reaction from HTC regarding loading the bootlockers (lolz)....but we are still very few in number.
I'm more inclined to agree with another prominent theory: That the Sprint iPhone release is being prepared for. Just look what Verizon did, they went tiered. I don't think Sprint will do that, yet...it's all they've got and they fncking know it...but I think all of the little changes (slight admin fee change, ETF increase, 4G monitoring, likely other things) are a sign of them preparing for an onslaught of network abuse.
Though I'd never buy an iPhone, when sprint gets it, the competition will be SICK to say the least. Especially if its the only 4G iPhone in the USA. Verizon and at&t customers will flood the gate coming to sprint, and as far as data usage, ha, it will jailbroken in no time!! If Sprint has data issues now, wait till iPhone users start hacking their phones.

Sorry to be so blunt, but that's terribly incorrect. 'Torrenting,' is when you download using a peer-to-peer network. Typically this is for nefarious reasons like stealing software, music, and movies. People tend to download at maximum speed continously. I reckon you could pull in a TB in a month over 3G. 4G, all bets are off.

As much as this doesn't affect most of us, all it's going to do is make people cancel their hotspot and gravitate towards the free tethering you can get when you root. But, in all reality, most people who pay for and use the hotspot rarely go over 5 gigs a month anyways.

The Mobile Hotspot/ Air Card limit was a bad move, I can understand the phone tethering limit to 5GB.
This move gives Verizon the all clear on flagging their Mobile Hotspots as the better & cheaper alternative, why by a limited 4G WiMax hotspot when you can buy a faster & $10 cheaper monthly ($50 for 5GB) LTE hotspot from Verizon?
It would be better if they grandfathered current users before the limit because now the ETF free door has been swung open, loosing more contract subscribers valued at an est. $1700 x number of mobile hotspot users, over a 2 year contract.
SMH
But no one thought to bring that possible backlash up at an investor meeting. Where I assume this deal went down.
unlimited data is next ..

He is part of the solution as far as I am concerned. The ETF fees are filled with greed and are only a tool to hold people hostage. If there are ways to use their contracts against them, I am all for it. What he is doing is NOT illegal. I would argue that the steady stream of contract changes that we get sucked into by default are deceptive and low on the part of sprint.
PLUS... if he gets out, that is one less customer we have to worry about on our data stream... (assuming he would have been using it if there wasn't this other out option).

Let's take this one at a time:
1) ETF's are not a way for companies to use contracts against the customer. You sign a contract because you don't want to pay $600 for a new phone. You're more than welcome to buy the phone at full price and only use month to month if you want, thereby negating the need for any contract to get involved. Don't feel like paying full price for the phone, either? Well, then you're **** out of luck.
2)No, he is not part of the solution. By him skirting his ETF, he basically paid $200 for a phone, and then is getting out of his contract ETF-free, basically making Sprint lose money on their sale of that device.
3) While it does mean one less person on the data stream, freeing up precious bandwidth for the rest of us, it is also one less customer for Sprint. One less paying customer mind you. If too many people do this, Sprint is going to have to make changes to make money, and you know what will be the next thing to go? Say goodbye to your unlimited data.
So, it's one of two ways. Either buy your phones at full price without contract, or pony up the ETF if you want to leave. Don't **** it up for the rest of us, asshole.

Don't **** it up for the rest of us, asshole.

they won't boot you right away. It usually takes a few Billing cycles. I can see sprint eventually just charging the balls out of people you use that prl somehow.
I tried that prl a couple months ago when I needed to stream some video one evening. I must not have hit "commit changes" when changing back to 21081, and I stayed on it for over a month, using 6ish gigs of data. I have not yet heard anything from them about it luckily.
anyone have the link for download
Thanks for the tip op. I'll be switching back to it now

I used the 00001 prl this past week . I was in SC where apparently sprint decided "Eh we dont need any towers out here let Verizon cover it" I got tired of the phone constantly struggling for signal I just downloaded the PRL and flashed it on the phone to stabalize it some what .I mean hell the phone was going to be roaming anyways might as well give it the tower listings to get the best out of the signal I had access to . In my eyes thats Sprints issue not mine . They said they had the coverage well apparently they dont so they can chow down on the roaming charges . Maybe if they pay enough roaming charges they might get a bright idea to put a tower up in the area I was in .
Thanks for the heads up, just flashed mine and works great

I think its truely funny , I just tried the verizon prl at my home and compared it to the Sprint PRL (21081)
Verizon DL 2.01 UPL 0.75
Sprint DL 0.50 UPL 0.25
Tell me there isnt something wrong with this picture . As much as I hate to say it , all the more reason for my future transition back to Verizon . Yeah they cost alittle more but you get faster access and better coverage .
Flash 00001. Sync dropbox files back and forth from phone to DB then delete all of dropbox then do it again.. you should get your account suspended within about 5 gigs. Go sync the entire repo for ICS and then delete it and do it again. Maybe get a torrent or 9 while its going. WiFi tether everywhere for everyone. Open network with androidAP changed to maybe free internet for all. All on roaming. Sprint will drop u like a tweaker drops his rocks at the smell of bacon.

To be fair, not true. YOU can as a current Sprint customer, but if I were to have say, my wife decide to switch from Verizon to Sprint tomorrow, there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY for her to join Sprint as a new customer without a 2 year contract, whether she pays $999999999999 up front for her equipment or not.

Maybe they could you know, fix their ****ing network and people wouldn't leave?
Never mind that unlimited data is going away eventually, no matter what. But hey, have fun with your crusade against the inconsequential amount of people using 00001

Slow net speeds or no connection.

To the folks who are claming that Sprint is throttling them due to there net speeds sucking or download speeds suck. They don't throttle. Prl update won't fix it. If your losing connection all the time dropped calls and your location has good signal normally and net speeds.
Then you probably have a bad radio hardware issue with the phone. This goes to rooted users too if you flashed your kernel right and rom.
A bad radio will cause all sorts of issues slow speed no connection lost calls. No matter what prl you use or network edit you try will not fix it.
Have Sprint take a look at it they will tell you if your radio is spanked. My first evo 3d had a spanked radio brand new outta the box a few other folks same thing. Anyways those that have issues may wanna get it looked into.
Will I need the sprint insurance for them to look at it and fix it? Of can they look at it let me know and then ship it off to my 3rd party insurance?

I would talk to them first if you have insurance your fine. If not they might do it for a fee or a 3rd party store.
i think sprint just sucks theres nothing wrong with my radio it pulls 2 mbps all day on verizon
Sprint just sucks.
My 3d moves slow during the day & blazing fast at night. It rarely reached 1mb+ but it's definitely way faster @ night! What is up with that lol

I was talking about the folks who our on sprint's network.
Using the 00001 prl data speeds are almost at 2 mbs down. With latest pro update its .08 mbs down. Its sad that I get better speed on another carriers towers. Sprint used to be alright, but they are seriously falling behind.

My E3D has been fine with 3G data - it depends where you're at... I live in a state capitol, and we still don't have 4G. My gripe is with my Wi-Fi - cable broadband SUCKS. They can throw nifty catchwords like PowerBoost at us, but one thing is clear: cable broadband systems for homeowners in municipalities are still 'node' based - when everyone in the same neighborhood is streaming video or surfing, the bandwidth drops. I can't wait for a good 4G WiMax connection, or a VPN...

I think what he is referring to is the fact that in your original post you said it could be a hardware issue, which means that if its a hardware issue then the same will occur when on verizons network while roaming. The other poster is getting great performance with verizon so therefore it has to mean that sprints network is ****. And to be quite frank, sprints network is garbage right now and that ain't no secret.

What I stated in the op was if your normal signal was fine normally and data was fine in your area. Then outta the blue WiFi was messed up disconnecting and signal kept dropping calls and nothin seemed to work on stock then your radio is messed up.
Sprint's data and calls are fine for me best signal ever.

Uh, well as a 14 year old there are a lot of things you simply just don't understand, hence your clueless post(no offense). If you buy a new car and it breaks down, should I not ***** about it because we never always used to have cars? If I am at the airport and my flight is delayed should I not ***** about it because air travel wasn't always around? If my gps unit stops working should I not get upset because not too long ago we were all using maps? I hope you get my point, this isn't about taking anything for granted. As technology becomes more advance the more we depend on them to get through each and everyday. Also, in my examples these are all things that we pay hard earned money for, so if your a paying customer then you expect some sort of working service in return.
Who is paying the cell phone bill in your house? Obviously it isn't you so what do you care if something goes out, it aint your money and its not like you can go and walk into an att/tmobile/verizon store and get service. You are stuck with whatever your parents decide to get, and thats it. On the other hand I bet if one of your parents gets upset because of crappy service, they aren't gonna say well cell phones haven't been around that long so its ok. No, they will find another carrier to go and spend more money in the process for better service. Thats not taking something from granted, thats just wanting something to work as it should.
I have been with sprint for over 10 years(you know, since you were 4 years of age) and for the first 8.5 years service has been exceptional but the last 1.5 years has been horrible and it seems like its getting worse and worse everyday. I travel quite a bit for my job so whether I am at home in atlanta or any major city from atlanta to new york city its the same crappy service. In the day time 3g is laughable at best and it only seems to work fairly well from 2am to 4am when the network isn't as cluttered. How can I do my job effectively and efficiently if the technology I am paying for takes a step back? If I have to send/receive important emails or any other form of communication and I am late because of the slow network then that could cost me a lot of time and a lot of money.

That may be true for a very small fraction of customers but its not a secret that sprints network is in the toilet right now, thats not my opinion thats a fact. Hopefully when all this network vision stuff is completed with sprint then their service will improve but if not sprint will continue to bleed customers more then ever before. Its getting to a point now that the extra savings compared to the other carriers isn't even worth it anymore.

Well down south the speeds are fine. My first Evo 3d phone had some crappy data and signal was wiggin out seemed fine in other areas then would drop to nothing. Had it swapped out and everything runs fine no issues. I have been all the way to Michigan and to Flordia with no issues. So I have no idea why you folks complain about your data speeds. I know at times towers can get slammed but I doubt it would happen all the time. I would for the sake of things get sprint to check your phone out can't hurt.
