Unable to use latest Swype Beta on PWGB v2.0b3 - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently installed the PowerWashed GB v2b3 ROM and would like to install the latest Swype beta on it. In previous ROMs, I simply removed the Swype files in system and etc, reboot and downloaded the Swype Installer to installer and was good to do.
Unfortunately doing the same on this ROM brings up a Force Close every time I enable Swype after using this method.
Is there something else that needs to be done to get this to work?
Thanks!

How to install Swype 3

I have a new (1day old) SGS2 that came with swype 2.70 installed.
I have a beta account in Swype and I can install swype 3 beta, and I did it many times on my old phone (HD2).
But now when I go to activate Swype 3 via the Swype installer program, I can't desable the original one to update to the new.
Anyone know how to do this?
Root phone, get root explorer, delete swype.apk from system/app. Download Swype 3.
Thanks, it works.
Thanks helped me as well

[Q] anyone have the stock swype files?

Could someone post the stock Atrix swype installer/files? Want to update to the OTA GB and I have the beta swype installed. Forgot to save off the stock swype files, doh .
edit: I uninstalled the swype beta & installer and tried a droidx swype apk here as a final effort before doing an SBF with .83. It did not work (get the exclamation point icon). Ended up flashing .83 and installed the OTA through the SD card. I'm definitely using TiBackup to save off swype before applying swype beta .

go search swype in teh "themes and apps" section
it teaches you how to use adb shell or a root file manager on how to save the default swype
Here is the preinstalled swype on GB. one zip is from copying the two swype files, the other is a set of swype files from titanium backup. Version is 2.71.76.23150 , no clue if it's the same as .83. Could be since I did not see any difference.
path for the files in GBswype.zip:
/system/app/Swype.apk
/system/lib/libSwypeCore.so

Ok so this is what you do if you are getting force closes, OR you are getting the message that swype is already preinstalled and you can't update the beta (this will work if you have 3.25 and can't update or FUBARed 3.26, or should. It worked for me):
a) Grab yourself a copy of Titanium Backup, free version works just fine.
b) Open Titanium Backup and backup BOTH the installer and Swype (3.xx)
1) In Tit. (giggity) Backup delete both the installer and Swype (3.xx)
2) Go Download the new swype beta installer http://beta.swype.com//android/user/login/
3) Go ahead and install the installer, and once done, install Swype from that installer.
Now once swype is successfully installed you are going to reobtain your dictionary from your original install. You only need to restore the installer if there is a problem with it or something.
4) Restore Swype 3.xx and when the prompt comes up you select (Data Only). This is important, we dont want to install anything but the app data, like settings and most importantly your dictionary.
Now, everything should be working perfect. You should have the latest Swype, and your dictionary. This should work for every future update too. Let us know if this worked, it worked for me!

i did this at begining, and after wipe (installer and swype) i did a reboot
and then swype install perfect, as a note, restoring data from TB will bring the dictionary and some settings but will override (with no option to bring back) the languages, for example before the data restoring i have 5 languages to choose, after data restore i have 2 (the original language of my previous version) i guess "clicking" update in updater will bring the other languages.

Updater says the Beta can't be installed on devices that have Swype pre-installed, e.g, the Evo 3D.

Actually I do. I went and renamed the three stock swype files to .old. I rebooted and then downloaded and installed the beta. All I got was FC's when I tried to use Swype. Am I missing something?
i don't see anything new but a thinner swype trace lol

wich one?
/system/app/Swype.apk
/system/lib/libSwypeCore.so
you can download titanium backup free, wipe data, and then uninstall and reboot for easy usage (you can make a backup too )

I renamed those two, and also
/data/dalvik-cache/[email protected]@[email protected]
I renamed all three, rebooted, installed and downloaded the beta, and got nothing but FC's. I'm running SenslessROM 2.3.7.
I uninstalled my current swype, downloaded and installed the new swype. Everything worked fine until I rebooted. I now get constant swype force closes. I tried wiping data for the app as well as cache and davlik in recovery and it still crashes. Any ideas?

Same thing happened to me. I uninstalled with titanium. Rebooted. Made sure Swype was nowhere in the applications. Download and install Swype. I had done issues with super user, so updated, then uninstalled Swype, then rebooted, then installed again and it worked. Don't know why it was being such a whore to install.

AHH HA! Duplicate these steps (backup and restore process) and it will work as I described, INCLUDING after a restart. It looks like there was a minor update AFTER this update.
So, do this as of 6:30 AM MST 10/21/11 and everything should work great, you will have the latest swype, and your dictionary saved from a previous install. Ta Da!
OP updated
Sweet, zen kun. Thanks for updating the OP. That should help our friends get the update working.
Thanx for the heads up on this. I like this version already

How to Install Swype Beta on the Droid X2

Swype beta has many enhanced features that the stock version does not have. It also contains links to an extensive system of help files, videos, tutorials, etc. to get you proficient at using swype. And last but not least, the dark beta keyboard display looks cool on the Droid X2. (See screen shots below.) However it will not install on our phone because the X2 stock version is a system app and Swype beta is installed as a user app. (The Swype beta installer checks to see if you have a system version of Swipe on your phone, and will not install the beta if you do.) If you would like to try out the enhanced beta version here is the easiest way I have found to install it.
First, you MUST be rooted. This method assumes you are rooted and are using Titanium Backup and Root Explorer.
To uninstall the stock version do this...
1. In settings, select a keyboard input method other than Swype.
2. Make a backup of the stock Swype app with TBU, in case you want to reinstall it.
3. Next, wipe data with TBU, then uninstall the program. (This will uninstall the app "/system/app/com.swype.android.inputmethod" and it's associated data files.)
4. With Root Explorer, go to the /system/app folder and check for a file called Swype.apk. If it is there delete or rename it. There may also be a lib file with a path of /system/lib/libSwypeCore.so. If this file is present, you should delete it as well.
5. At this point some folks have advised wiping cache and Dalvik cache with the X2 Recovery app, but if the above steps are followed, I have not found this to be necessary. Use your own discretion.
Now Swype is gone from your X2, and you are free to install the new beta version. If you already have the Swipe Beta Installer app on your phone, just use that. If not, go to http://beta.swype.com/ and follow the instructions to install the latest beta version.
Remember that the beta version of Swype is a user app (installed in the /data/app directory). If you are upgrading to a ROM that has the stock system version built in, and you are not intending to do a complete data wipe, then you will want to uninstall the beta first. Then you can follow these steps again after you upgrade your ROM.
Enjoy.

[Q] How to get Swype Beta

All,
I really want to get the new Swype Beta with Dragon Speak on my MoPho. I an rooted and tried freezing the stock swype and DLing Beta from Swype. No luck. Ideas? Thanks!
Before doing this I strongly recommend you to back up these files
Using ROOT Explorer
Browse to "/system/app/" back up and then Delete "Swype.apk"
Browse to "/system/lib" back up and then Delete "libswypecore.so"
Reboot.
Then now install the swype installer and install swype.
Good luck!!
Yes, that's what I do every time I run the sbf again to get 4g back. Works like a charm. I have the swype installer backed up on titanium. no problems runnig it after the above steps.
Can confirm what kbrn has posted.. Basically the same method I had done.. Basically need to delete the stock Swype file to allow the installer to work..
It worked! Swype Beta with Dragon rocks. Thanks!
