I still haven't managed to get the LCD screen protector, and was wondering how everyone is cleaning the screen of their sony tablets. Fingerprints seem to leave more marks than I had expected.
I tried using the cloth I use to clean my sunglasses, that doesn't help much. Any recommended methods?

Using cloth that came with screen protector on my old tablet, works fine and removes fingerprints quite well. I too also need to buy a protector for my S tablet just havent gotten around to it. It might be me but S tab seems easier to get finger prints off then other tablets. Obvious thing too is to make sure your fingers are clean before using it ie not greasy or anything.
Yeah, I agree on the clean hands part.. I need to get one of those microfiber cloths..
what about those LCD cleaning sprays that they sell at computer stores? I used them once on my laptop, logically, should work for tablet.
How good is the official screen protector at keeping fingerprints under control?
Does anybody know if there is anything nasty in the hand sanitiser found in hospitals. I have tried it on a laptop screen to get permanent metallic marker off as it was the only thing that would touch it and it worked great with a little effort. I then proceeded to clean various other products with the same excellent results, fingerprints, grease and dust removed without so much as a streak. I think that it's alcohol based so presume that's why it cleans so well. As for using it on my pride and joy........ I might just persist with the old cleaning cloth that came with a gigabyte pc case.

Havent tried it but I imagine any cleaner meant for lcd screens, camera lenses etc would be fine on the tablet but yeah wouldnt use hand sanitizers....
I actually used that lcd screen cleaner from Monoprice on the Tablet S screen before applying the screen protector. Worked very well. The Zagg cleaner does a very good job as well.
I dont. Its going to have fingerprints on it 100% of the time anyways. I do however brush off dust with a fluffy microfiber towel meant for drying cars.

I use the Steinheil SGP lcd cleaner spray and wipe dry with a microfibre cloth, it works wonders and really cleans the screen to like new condition.
wet cloth do the job for me.

yep, the micro-fiber cloth that Asus provides is pretty good for cleaning the screen- I had got one when I had purchased their eee netbook a few years back and I still use it for cleaning most screens.
It is odd that with all that oleophobic and hydrophobic coating the TP is still a fingerprint magnet, i guess it might not be such a bad idea to have a matte screen protector by SGP over it afterall..

Its corning gorilla Glass, its suppose to be scratch resistant, so don't worry, the cloth is not going to scratch the surface. The coating of choice does seem to show finger prints, but don't you agree that are incredibly easy to wipe off with the cloth? I've had other display which I had to wipe for a while before the stain and fingerprints can be cleaned off.

Please find me a piece of glass that when you touch it, it will not show your fingerprints? Other than that, don't use the prime while eating chicken wings is my only suggestion.
The only true cure is a dooshy stylus.....

I am hoping Best Skins Ever comes out with a screen cover soon. They do wonders on my other devices for fingerprint repellent.
The cleaning cloth provided is actually a top notch cloth. They are supposed to have that rough texture to help cleaning and pulling off smudges and prints. Problem is that most manufacturers include cheap one which don't have texture, so it can be unusual to get a good one.
What's the best way to clean the NT screen? I keep getting fingerprints/smudges, but I'm not sure what's safe to use... Any experiences would be awesome.
Also, I just read that putting rain-x on the screen makes it keep fingerprints off? Seems kind of weird, but anyone try this?

Some sort of cloth based material, not paper, preferably micro-fiber.
If that isn't enough on its own, use a small amount of a 50/50 mix of water and vinegar put on the cloth and wipe the screen.
I personally use a 50/50 mix of di water and methanol. Spray a slight amount onto a clean micro-fiber towel and wipe. I use this method on all my lcd screens. Di water is better than tap due to low mineral content. I work in the semicondutor industry so I have all the di that I need.

Yea, sorry, I should have specified di (distilled) water when mentioning it.
I have some laptop screen cleaner that's like a blue spray gel...will that work?
Fyi, DI water != distilled water. DI = deionized, whereas distilled is just condensed steam.
For this purpose, distilled ought to be expensive enough.
DI water, on the other hand, was upwards of $50/gallon last time I was lucky enough to need to flush my laser's cooling system.

Nice thing about working in a clean room I have a endless supply of DI (yes di-ionized) water. I didn't realize that it was so expensive to buy. Maybe I need to start smuggling some out and selling it on ebay. lol

I prefer to use a damp tissue, but B&N says not to use moisture when cleaning the screen.
I purchased the official B&N anti-glare screen protector for $20 (eek!). I got it mainly because my daughter somehow manages to get food and who-knows-what-else on the screen. B&N says not to use moisture when cleaning the screen, but that's the only way to get the crud off. So, I got the B&N protector.
Anyway, despite comments online about people destroying both sheets in the process of installing them, I installed mine without any problems. First I made sure the screen was completely clean with absolutely no dust on it. Then I peeled back just an inch or so of the removable film, pushed the top edge of the sheet to where the case meets the screen, then slowly peeled back more as I pushed the sheet onto the screen, by bending the sheet as I worked my way down the screen. No air bubbles. No dust. No dirt. It's perfect and it looks like it will last forever.
I use Monster ScreenClean and a microfiber cloth to clean all my electronics. A big bottle is about $12 at Walmart. It's the only Monster product I'm willing to buy.

+1 on the baby wipes. Especially the costco ones. Make sure they're not the adult all purpose wipes that are kinda soapy. Works wonders with all marks and grease and no damage to the screen/tv/monitor etc.
I used a cleaning cloth that is made for cleaning eyeglasses. Worked wonderful!
I also used a cleaning cloth (microfiber) designed for eyeglasses. Then I immediately installed an anti glare, anti smudge screen protector I bought from Amazon for $9. Haven't had any glare or smudge problems since then.
I can't recall the policy about linking to/recommending products... so I won't.

Yeah, I just usually use my shirt. Without the spit though. Cotton T-shirt works best.

I too use the Monster Screen Clean with the microfiber cloth that came with it. Just one squirt on the cloth (it's barely damp) and the smudges wipe away very easily. I keep another, thinner, microfiber cloth behind the NT (sandwiched with the case), and use it for cleaning on the go.
As long as there is only general finger marks (ie oil), then I found breathing heavily to fog up the screen then wiping over with a soft tissue or micro fibre cloth or clean t-shirt does wonders.
apparently i own the DIRTIEST house in the world. ran the shower on hot for 15 minutes, and used 4, count em, FOUR microfiber "lint free" cloths directly from the package to my primes screen and wasted THREE screen protectors because there was more dirt, dust, and lint on my screen than a dryer sheet. soooooo, eff it. ill just pray the gorilla glass holds up. my phone didnt. but whatever. lol youve been warned, dont put on your screen protectors at my house...
You know those micro fiber cloths that are included are pretty crappy. Nine times out of ten they are your problem. I've noticed that some of then leave behind small micro particles.
I've found compressed air works really well to clear dust and diet when trying to put on a protector

You should have washed those Microfiber cloths a couple of times before you tried to get your screen perfectly lint-free. A lot of times there are lose fibers from the manufacturing process caught in the surface of those "lint-free" microfiber cloths, but they usually disappear after the cloths have been laundered.
Also, if you really want to get your screen perfectly clean you would be better off using a pre-moistened eye-glass cleaning cloth. They come in little foil packets like wet-naps and are 100% lint free and contain a mild solvent that will help remove any surface contaminant or dust. This kind of treatment might be overkill, (usually a damp microfiber works just as well) but it is almost guaranteed to get your screen clean enough to put a skin on with no trouble

I would recommend a screen protector. I believed the hype about gorilla glass and have lots of surface scratches in my screen now. I am now convinced that they never put gorilla glass on my prime. All the scratches I have gotten are from cleaning finger prints off my screen with a microfibre cloth I bought at Best Buy. I went to Best Buy yesterday to complain to them. They of course told me that my screen was scratched because of customer abuse. So I put some more fingerprints on my screen and told them to show me how to use the cloth on clean my screen. The guy took to cloth and wiped off my screen and bam, brand new scratches right along the side and bottom of the screen. The rep told me that wasnt right. He tried on screens of the display model and it never scratched. He took his keys and rubbed them on the screen and no scratches. I took my fingernail and rubbed in on the bezel of my prime and it scratched easily. Its like my screen is made from plexiglass or something. They contacted Asus Support for me and they want me to rma my tablet. Now I am scared that they are going to charge me to replace the screen claiming it is customer abuse.

Doesn't sound right. I've been very impressed by the Gorrila glass protection and I'm very surprised I do not have any scratches. I clean mine with a lint-free cloth also micro fiber all the time and there are no scratches. My screen almost looks wet when I finish cleaning it. I do love the screen.
Its funny you did that. I did that to a set of 3. Each one, I tried and had dust under the film screen protector. $12.00 down the toilet.
I did succeed after going to the dining room table, wiping it down with a damp cloth, used a short sleeve t-shirt, and a can of canned air.
So out of 6 screen protectors, I finally got one on perfect......
spend the money for a quality protector, Zagg, Ishield, etc. any of those "military grade" type protectors, usually are applied with a spray that activates the glue... After using one of these i will never go back to the cheap ones, they pretty much never wear out, are a hell of a lot easier to apply, and look better in the end because no air bubbles!

this is exactly my situation... bought 3 more... theyll be here tuesday...
so far, my shopping list consists of a new microfiber cloth, a can of air (or 5), and some wet eye glass cloths
im really even willing to pay some kid to do this for me, thats how frustrated i am lol...

exactly. my eoic 4g touch has ''gorilla glass'' and more scratches on it that my samsung moment did... im not chancing it any more. and i REALLY need to get good at this before sgp comes out with one, since i dont want $30 for ONE protector down the drain...
Wow, what do you people do to your devices to scratch them so much? I have had my Droid charge for over six months and had my Samsung fascinate for near a full year before that and neither have a single scratch on them. In and out of my pockets all day every day, even dropped both of them on concrete more than once. I also clean my screen with my shirt and my jeans and have no issues at all. Even my prime I rub on my tshirt to wipe off the finger prints and screen is still flawless.

It's simple, just because you haven't gotten scratches doesn't mean you won't necessarily get them. You can close your eyes and walk across the street and not get hit by a car, that doesn't mean you're immune to car accidents.

My prime came with plexiglass like screen not gorilla glass. I've had my Samsung Captivate for a year and a half and screen still looks flawless. I treat my prime with much more care and I have hundreds of scratches from using a microfiber cloth to clean off my fingerprints. Evertime I clean my screen I get new scratches. I wiped a pop bottle with my cloth and it didn't scratch. The plastic of a pop bottle is more scratch resistent than my prime. Sending it in to Asus to fix. Bad batch of gorilla glass or something.

After hearing the stories here I'm glad the first thing I did was slap a screen protector on. I found a dual pack on ebay for $9 called S-Shieldz. They were wet applied. I grabbed my glasses cleaning kit, sprayed some of the solution on, lined up the screen protector quite easily, squeegied out the excess liquid and waited 24-48 hours for the haze to go away and now its fully protected. There are 1 or 2 minor flaws in the screen protector that look like dust under but they're actually just knicks in the plastic. I only ended up with 1 particle underneath and its not on the visible part of the screen so I don't really care.
For being $9 with free shipping the quality is quite nice. Its glossy without the orange peel texture. I have no issues with touch sensativity.
Glad to know that I'm not the only one... I only ruined two screen protectors. Haha. I got really close to getting the second one perfect, but ended up with a bunch of particles under it as well. Guess I wouldn't recommend trying to put one on at my place either. I'll look into the other screen protectors that are wet applied mentioned in this thread.
I got a skanomi protector. Got it on perfect.
I cleaned the screen really good with 5 microfiber cloths. Then put the screen protector on top of it still stuck to the paper it came on and pt a piece of plastic I wiped off with a microfiber cloth.
I took a nice hot steamy shower. Bout 20 mins.
Took the protector of its sheet and sprayed on all of the solution and lined it up. I used a single fly cardboard credit card (like the examples they send you in the mail) to squeegee the excess fluid out starting from the middle going out.
After about an hour, I noticed a particle in the middle of the screen. So I took it off, used a very fine pair of tweezers to get the particle off. The second time, I dunked the protector in a sink full of water with a couple drops of soap in it (thats all the 'solution' really is).
Perfect.
I guess I should mention that I had my TFP OFF during the process and 24 hours after.

bought a cheap pack of 3 for like 2.99 took 3 attempts but the 3rd worked perfect, used the screen cleaner that came with my prime
Just curious as to how many people use a screen protector on their TF. If you don't, how's your screen holding up?
I've had my transformer since black Friday and the screen has not one scratch and I take it to class everyday. I have a case on it too.

I have dogs that like to jump on beds, so I use one just in case. Also I use one so I don't fret about my glass being dirty or when a girl with rings on is playing with it, I will always know I have a perfect glass behind the screen protector. Sadly my screen underneath has funky **** going on like light bleed and a discolored spot

I don't have a screen protector, but I am looking into getting one.
I have a very tiny dot on the border of the glass which I don't like much, just in case.
But the problem is how to apply a screen protector!! on my HD2 with its 4.3" display I had too much difficulty to put a screen protector without leaving dust underneath it, on a 10" display it is impossible....
I don't use a screen protector and my screen is perfect.
Tough i always keep it docked, so i guess it helps a lot

Biggest tip I can give is to apply the screen protector in the bathroom after running a hot shower to get the steam in the room to make the dust die down. Also, the bit of added moisture in the air helps to let you slide the screen protector around a bit before letting it become settled.

I use clear tape to get dirt out from underneath. But yes bathroom helps although I don't make it steamy. The biggest problem I ran into was aligning the whole thing. One corner would always be off just a tad. I ended up trimming it a bit and I can't even tell.

I use a screen protector on my TF101 mainly because it reduces glare and the fingerprints come off easier and it feels smoother that the regular gorilla glass
My tf101 was a best buy display model. It didn't have a screen protector then and it doesn't have one now. I sell saltwater livestock for a living and I'm a mechanic on the side, so it frequently comes in contact with dirt, grease, and saltwater. Not a scratch on the screen. I use a targus case to protect the screen when its not in use.
Regarding putting a screen protector on. Its just like window tint fellas. Clean screen as best you can. Mix some hand soap and tap water in a spray bottle. Spray screen protector and device and apply screen protector. Now spray front side of screen protector. Use a credit card or rubber squeegee to squeegee the water out from under the protector. As the water comes out it will drag the dust with it. Keep a towel on hand to dry the device as the water runs out. You might see a little water left under the protector after squeegeeing but it will dry completely over the next few days so don't worry about it.

its just too bad that SGP has no longevity... and by that I mean I can still get a martian fields and skinomi products for my old Touch Pro 2 but cant get a screen protector for either OR my TF101 through SGP/Steinheil...
When it comes to screen protectors for me its SGP/Steinheil then Martian Fields (then pretty much anyone else), but like I said, 8-12 Months later they drop it completely... so unless you stock up on them, be prepared to be screwed to find a different brand if you have an issue (I had my nephew destroy one of mine... I couldnt get my finger under the side but 2min with him and me not looking and it was off and bent in half )
My .02 anyway..

And...you'd be wrong. All those things he did most likely wouldn't scratch regular glass. For the most part keys and coins aren't hard enough. What will scratch glass, gorilla or not, is sand. Sand and grit is everythere. If your hands are dirty its there. It there's lint in your pockets its there. That's the enemy of screens.

Had the transformer since it was first released. After a few months of ownership i tried the SGP ultra fine matte protector as the insane glare was starting to bother me. Had that on for a few months during which the screen nor the protector took any damage as i keep it docked when its not in use. Took it off 3 months ago and since then i've gotten one hairline scratch thats about a cm long, not noticeable unless you knew where it was.
I would say if you keep the thing docked and take care when cleaning the screen its not necessary to have a screen protector. However if you don't use a dock and the tablet is constantly exposed to any number of things that can scratch it, or you're not in the habit of taking good care of your gadgets then a screen protector might not be a bad idea.
Every time i see one of those glass scratch demos i facepalm as i've had quite a few devices that were supposed to be "scratch proof" get scratched by the most mundane things. Its all about angle, material, and force. I can slice a screen and not get a scratch but angle it a bit and give it more pressure and I bet i can get these screens to scratch pretty easily.
Scratch resistance is awesome in the lab, but in the real world there are just too many variables to be absolutely sure.

Got some ugly scratches when I decided to use the flip cover case. Some sand or dirt got in between the glass and the leather cover. My heart is still broken because of it.

So how do we feel about ZAGG screen protectors? I'm looking to put one on my Slider. In the past, I have been pleased with Caseen and their glareshatter screen protectors. Just wondering if there's any really recommended brands?

I've used ZAGG a few times, once on my zune, once on my evo and again on my evo LTE. The original ZAGG product is one of those soft wet apply films that are a bit grippy compared to a hard plastic film protector. I hated it for my zune and i hated it for my evo because of the grippiness as well as the slight orange peel effect. Over time the zune's wore down enough so that it was smooth and had no orange peel, but that took about a year and only in the spots you swipe around to change tracks and volume. Same thing happened with my evo.
On the Evo LTE I was tempted to try zagg HD, which actually was much better than the original film in that it was a lot more clear and had less grip, but alas it was still a soft wet apply film and i just couldn't get used to it.
If you like the grippy texture then the zagg and similiar soft films last longer than the hard plastics. It seems like a love it or hate it situation for a lot of people, myself included.
I will always go with the hard plastic dry install as those are in my opinion easier to apply because you can hover over the screen and slowly lower it as opposed to sliding it around on liquid and then have to squeegee it all out later. Even if i have to replace it once every few months as opposed to once a year for the zagg, i will still stick with the hard plastics.

The edges won't go down 100%. Is there a way to keep them down? Is this just a down side of the phone? I have a Foscom rugged case for it. Do you think the small lifting will be an issue?
I had a really bad halo with my nillkin protector and I had no issue with functionality of the device with it on, but I ended up taking it off because I hated the look of it when the screen was off or the screen being on in bright sunlight.
Basically, it won't affect the touch screen performance in any way, other than some quality loss if the halo goes over where the actual pixels are, not just the glass
I think I read something about putting rubbing alcohol and it removing the halos, not super sure though might want to hear what other people say.

Alcohol will remove the fingerprint-resistant layer of the screen. Might not matter if you're keeping the screen protector the entire life of the phone, but I think it's worth mentioning.

This is true. I used an alcohol wipe when I first took the factory protector off to fit my glass one. It very promptly removed the oleophobic coating from the factory screen, making it super grippy. There was no way I could glide my finger over it.

I used an alcohol prep pad and when I wiped dry with a microfiber it glided smoothly.
