Does anyone else think that Beats Audio sounds terrible? - HTC EVO 3D

Ok, so I have tried three or four different roms featuring Beats Audio and absolutely detest it. It's nothing more than super duper over compression and turning it off makes everything sound even worse.
The catch is, I LOVE my current rom (hydra 2.1) , but use my phone in my car to often to just ignore it. Is there anything I can do to uninstall beats or is there anything that I can install that sounds at least as good as the stock rom? Thanks in advance

Sounds ok to me. Nothing to write home about for sure

beats is for people who care about a brand name and bass, its not for improving sound quality

It definitely sounds different than stock.
What? Hero is evolving... Hero evolved into EVO 3D!

beats is trashhhhhhhh

A lot of the roms are building beats into the framework, not just htcmusic.apk

Beats sucks.
Get PowerAmp and set your EQ to your speakers for best sound
Anybody know what the Evo 3d signal to noise ratio is?

Poweramp here also. Let me tell you, the 3d kills the OG evo in the audio out dept.

I'm actually looking for something with a nice flat eq sound. I've been doing car audio and security for 19 years. While I understand that I will never approach cd quality, I just don't want super compression on everything any more than I already have to deal with from mp3.

I set my trucks EQ to 0 on bass and mid. Use the country preset in HTC music app (because I am q hick). I set my treble to 2-4 depending on the song. 5 is highest setting.

I find Beats to be great. I think it comes down to what headphones you have. If you have cheap headphones, nothing will do miracles for those, but if you have mid-range headphones $30-$60, it makes quite the difference and I don't need to fiddle with anything.

When did 30-60 become the "lower" to midrange?
There are headphones for $30 that sound great.

Just use audio manager or dsp manager, way better imo.
Also to me 30-60 is a cheap headphone. The headphones I play games with are 350. No, I'm not saying I have a lot of money because I don't, audio is one of many main hobbies (below android of course)
I really despise beats products, they are WAY overpriced. You can find 60 dollar headphones that are better than beats. I hate that people get taken for their products...

Quick question, have the new roms with Beats Audio been able to do the Beats profile through Bluetooth or only through regular ones? Not sure if it's possible, but I can only do it through my regular headphones on the Hybrid+ rom.

[Q] evo 3d beats

so i did the beats thing to the htcmusic thing with the flashable zip from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194672
my question is what exactly is it doing because i havn't noticed a real change in sound as far as it being better louder or any other real change to the better.
i am using Bose ear-buds and the eq srs or no effect usually sound amazing i did notice it sounded better than the no effect and had more bass than the srs. also noticed if i switched from no effect to the beats there was no change. so just curious as to what exactly would be the benefit to the beats in the music apk. is this originally made for beats headphones that would be non-benificial for another brand name headphones since im to understand that beats or Bose i should see equal performance or better. at least this was my expectation. so pls don't troll i was i guess hoping for better sound quality if at all possible but quality is good just though it might get better.
I think u may need beats headphones

I want this, but odexed.
In the Synergy thread it says that with this mod, all headphones become Beats headphones. I had read a while back that it was just a software mod. HTC bought in to Beats and their upcoming phones will come with it.
My 17" HP Envy has Beats and honestly the sound isn't much better than any other laptops I've owned. BUT, when I plug in my computer surround speakers they do sound great.

Sadly this doesn't work with gsm evo 3d and I do have beats earphones!
can anyone update the zip for GSM EVO 3D? i wanted to decompile the apk myself but i got loads of errors...would appreciate it if someone can make an update
Haha, why would you need Beats headphones? That doesn't even make sense. They take the same audio signal that any other headphones take, they just do it at a price that is unacceptable.
This just changes the equalizers settings. Get cloudskipper and play around with the EQ, beats would be a bell curve or a V. Same thing.
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515a using XDA App
It's just personal preference really but seeing the little beats logo makes me feel cool haha!
I've just updated to s.off and flashed leedroid to my evo3d. I got the music beats button and I do have a set of beats tour. I can't really tell any difference when using them. I liked the srs effect more. Can we get the old music player back? There aren't any eq settings. So might try cloudskipper or stick with poweramp.
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using Tapatalk
Right. I don't even notice any difference -> even with beats headphones on
LeeDroid mentioned that the beats mod doesn't work properly for now.
Even if it does work, beats will make some music sound great and others, really terrible.
Any real audiophile will know one EQ setting does not apply for every music.

you can download Equalizer from Market and adjust it so its just as good/better then Beats.
It is fairly easy to duplicate the beats sound by using PowerAmp and it's EQ settings.
I have a set of ultimate ears earbuds and they sound as good or better than beats after playing with the EQ for a while.
I do like how easy beats makes it however, when you can just fire up the HTC player, plug in the phones and off you go.

It's nice that it works for BT and headphones and slightly for the speaker.

I agree with equalizer, just try small increments at first, or you will have more distortion. The neutral quality of audio while playing with this is pretty good as is. It is much louder then most in my experience. So the EQ benefits sound quality even at higher volumes compared to other androids. As a start, 2-4 db increase at low and high end should be your max. You can go a little higher on this but not much.. But on other models, over 2-3 and you risk a lot of distortion because of lack of earjack power.

Listen to Metal? Post your music setups

I myself am toying around with a few setups trying to decide which is best. Im finding ROMS play a big part in sound quality. So please post your ROM. I dont know if its cause we dont have kernel source or what, but i cant get the sound quality i had with my thunderbolt.
ROM - Ineffibillis Deus 1.0
Poweramp - like it, but crashes and freezes a lot, at least for me and cant figure out why. When it works i use rock preset, tone disabled, srs enabled, beats disabled. Id give sound quality and power an 8/10.
Google Music - not great alone.. But when combined with EQualizer app it can come close to poweramp. Im shying away from this because i dont want to get too used to it since we will be losing unlimited data.. Also, i hate having to be logged into webplayer at home with my gmail accessible.. :/ ill give this 7.5/10
So what are you guys running?

After reading theses posts I tried Poweramp and yes it is very nice. Big improvement over the stock music player. My Rezound sounds much better now over the bluetooth in my car. Prier to Poweramp the stock player lacked Bass, Poweramp is able to over come that disability. Poweramp actually makes the Rezound a lot closer to the sound quality we had on the EVO3D and it didn't even come with Beats Audio.

It is a big improvement as a previous user posted. You can set EQs where you want, or use the built in presets. And if you want multiple EQs, you can create your own presets.

If you like it, go pro. I seriously can't stand Poweramp coming from my Droid Charge. I tried multiple versions, all of which crashed all the time. I had different ROMs, kernels, etc and Poweramp still crashed. Maybe its fixed now, maybe not.
I think Mortplayer, DSP Manager, and Neutron is where its at.
Oh, and by the way, you take a hit on sound quality in Poweramp with the EQ or tone controls active. It is just the way it is. I don't consider the Rezound sound in the same league as Galaxy S and family on Voodoo or the iPhone, but the Rezound could sound fine if tweaked. Neutron player should have enough tweaks to whip the Rezound sound into shape without a quality hit.

I've been using PowerAmp Pro for about 1.5-2 years and never had a problem with it. The Beats headphones kinda suck with metal though since there's too much bass.

Sound quality hit. I A/B'ed with and without EQ by listening to music and toggling it on and off with the EQ set to flat. It likely has more benefit than harm if you really need to EQ though.

Beats is awesome. My EVO LTE is a Beast.
Depends on what I'm listening to, sometimes its great other times "Classical" & "Dance" are more fitting EQ settings.

The beats audio check box that appears when music apps play turns the Beats EQ on and off. I've got much higher quality audio equipment than Beats brand, personally I think it sounds horrible over my Alpine head unit in the car, but sounds ok on my Motorola Rokr S9s on the right song. On my home surround it sounds like crap, and my Senheiser head phones also don't seem to like it.

I like Beats Audio when I'm using my bluetooth motorcycle helmet to listen to music, but that is ONLY because it makes the volume on it a little louder.
Once I plug in my Bose headphones I instantly disable Beats, I don't listen to the type of "music" that was designed for and it makes what I do listen to sound like crap.
Even my teenage boys, that have the same phone, think that Beats is overrated. It is fine on some songs, but generally using something like PowerAmp, which gives you a lot of flexibility, sounds better.

This. I listen to bass heavy music (dubstep, electronic generally) on a pair of ultrasone DJ1 Pro's. Adding the beats audio makes everything rumble more than it needs to, especially with FLACs

Beats audio. Toooo loud on DNA on a bad way.

That is interesting to hear considering by all reports the One X (international) and One X+ have lower audio quality then Qualcomms solution (One XL, GS3 USA, etc).
One would assume that with the added amp quality would be even cleaner.

My mistake,I have not heard the one x+. But I can confirm that when my EVO lte volume is up all the way,and a friends DNA volume is up 70% they are almost equally loud holding sound quality at the same time. However blasting the output on the DNA seems to have poppy bass like a blown speaker with apple/Sony ex58 earphones. Now with ultimate ears metrofi (low models) it doesnt distort, so I am puzzled and not sure if its an extended EQ or just a crappy chipset. Hopefully its just a software issue because i am leaning towards this device

And I use the beats mixr. Which they perform amazing on my one x+ by adding that extra amp power for the headphones I think it kills the good sound bass not clean. Anyway. Not to bad. I'm sure you'll have different opinions

Poking around in the settings menu, it seems you can turn of the "beatsAudio" enhancements. Does that change anything?

I can confirm even with beats off, the.dna does infact have to much output for crap headphones. Also I heard the output was high enough to push the beats studios, so I could imagine all the blown overpowered buds that are about to be seen. It is pretty loud for a cell phone

I'm sorry to say, its not the audio drivers or hardware on the phone, it is absolutely your headphones. This phone amazingly has enough power to drive my my Sony mdr-v700dj's. even more impressive it drives my sennheiser hd598's. If you don't want to break the bank on headphones that have the oomph or prefer earbuds instead, I would reccomend the skull candy FMJ. With the power of this phone the fmj's are a perfect match.
<-----using them right now loud and clear at max volume RATTLING MY BRAIN!
I just tried my Butterfly with Monster Nokia Purity and was quite impressed with the sound. I'm glad they have enabled the Beats profile for other headphones...
Only problem now is that I have the white Butterfly and blue headphones... what to do...

Yeah this phone will crank with any pair of headphones or line out that I use... Even my crap ibeats that came with my rezound, even though the left one crackles and they're on their way out. This sounds amazing with my Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro's and I love having the nooz dsp to shape eq depending if I'm using ibeats, COP's or my car sound system...

Pretty sure that anything with a Beats logo is horrible sonically...so yeah, there's that.
As for the issue of volume...when I use my ear buds or full sized cans, the DNA sounds quite a bit better than the HTC 8x I have. Compared to my old One X, they are about the same volume wise. All of them distort at high volume...that's just a limiting factor to the amp itself...and the overblown bass that goes along with that Beats logo.
I would have to say it is the headphones.
Audio sounds amazing on my ATH-PRO700's I don't get any distortions of any kind

I definitely get distortions or at least noise on the DNA. Try listening to something that has both loud and quiet parts, and you can hear a hiss when it's quiet. This is with beats turned off (beats is another layer of distortion at least for me).

For those who havent already read the other topic it might be due to the 4G LTE band causing interference... put the phone into airplane mode and see if the buzzing/humming stays or goes
definitely agree, is there a way to turn it down?

No, but you can turn it off completely.
