[Q] Photo Quality on CM7 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am thinking about upgrading to a Galaxy S2 (the International version or Hercules on USA T-Mobile), and I'm just wondering about one thing:
One of the strengths of GS2 phones is the photo quality. Being that photo quality is not only affected by hardware, but also software, does this mean that photo quality will be reduced if I was running a custom ROM on the device (CM7)?
I have not cared much about picture qualities on my previous phones, but by the look of it, GS2 could really be a replacement to point and shoots.
Thanks in advance.

camera upgrade or downgrade ?

was just thinking how things are going in the right direction for sammy
what ever happened to the hd8910 camera? how come it wasn't used in the new lineup ?
come and compare the old hd8910 camera (8mp) vs the latest cam(8mp) used in the gs2, the difference in quality is big... is there a reason sammy dumped the old ones for the new ones when the old ones outperform the new ?
just thinking how much better the gs2 would of been....
im guessing more will come from sammy in the next year or so
I haven't tested the hd8910, but I think that my SGS2 has a better camera than my old M8800 Pixon 8mp, which was also good.
For me, the only problem with the SGS2 camera is when taking pictures in the dark. Nevertheless, no digital camera does the job as I'd like them to do. Therefore, for me there is no issue.
i8910 was a joint venture between Nokia (it ran S60V5) and Samsung. Nokia has an exclusive agreement with Carl Zeiss to use their lenses in mobile phones. When Samsung left Nokia, they also dropped the high quality lens.
I really wish Elop had of jumped in bed with Android instead of Microsoft. Having a modern, dual core android phone like the SG2 with a Carl Zeiss lens would be my dream phone. I'm waiting to see what new players enter the field before I let my i8910 go. I've pretty much given up on finding another phone with such an incredible lens in it.
I considered the Nokia N900, but its not being sold in the US (or UK, or Germany.....) and the few countries it is being sold are equivalent to ~900 USD. Forget that.

Which Android phone has the best Camera capability?

Question in the Title
i dont know really well with this
but i do know which one is not so preferable, that's my phone~HTC IS
hope this is helpful to u

I think every company's flagship phone makes reasonably good photos and it's a matter of personal taste to choose a company.
I mean - surely, there are people who will show me a difference between SGS2 photos and HTC Sensation and whatever LG's most expensive phone is but the bottom line for me is - I don't see a huge difference, people! If you want a decent camera then buy another device. Phone cameras IMO are just for taking party pictures and screwing around. They are simply not good enough for a photographer and that's about it.

iPhone 4S's camera is comparable to Canon S100, which is a top of the line compact camera. I really want the iPhone 4S's camera to be on Android.
Everything Apple is generally over rated;
And having used both the Galaxy S 2; and the iPhone 4s camera's
i can safely say the Samsung has the better picture.
My experience has been with HTC and Samsung:
Samsung smartphones take better pictures and videos. HTC uses too much compression which adds noise to photos and videos. Comparing my HTC Inspire to my Samsung Infuse (both 8MP cameras) I noticed the file sizes were smaller on the Inspire also leading to more noise.
This link is a review/comparison of the HTC Vivid and Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket and includes sample photos and videos:
http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/HTC-Vivid-vs-Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-Skyrocket_id2895
If you download and look at the original photos and videos, the Samsung does a much better job (notice the file sizes are larger too indicating less compression).
does anyone know any android phone with dedicated shutter button apart from the Xperia Arc?

I don't consider them comparable unless you're unfamiliar with cameras and using the s100 in auto mode. Even then there are plenty of situations where the s100 will beat the iphone since the s100 has a much more powerful flash, better low light capabilities, and optical zoom. If you do know your camera then the differences start to really mount up since you then get full control on the dedicated camera. I'm not fully familiar with the iphone's software controls but I'm assuming it doesn't have manual control of aperture and shutter speed. I'm hoping it has ISO control since some Android cameras have that but if it doesn't, there's another feature to include on the list.
All that said though, if you're uninterested in the details of photography and just want to snap a pic quickly for something like facebook, then ya, something like the iphone's camera is pretty decent.
Mytouch 4g slide cam is wonderful. The sgsII cam is good. Also the sensation/xe ect has a good cam.

The Mytouch 4G slide claims to have the best camera. I don't know if it's the best, but it's certainly one of the best. Both the physical camera hardware and the custom software are great.
Here's a shot I took in a very dark bar (no flash): http://i.imgur.com/3c8bY.jpg
And here's a shot taken that night by an iphone 4: http://i.imgur.com/8bhHa.jpg
Since most of the pics I take end up being indoors with crappy lighting, I like the fact that my phone can cope.
Im not a huge camera phone user but here are afew pics I took recently using the auto setting on the mytouch 4g slide.

[Q] Galaxy s2 vs galaxy nexus :future update, camera, screen

I know this have been discussed numerous times but i dig into different forums but i don't find what i need.
I want to know which is better between the two in performance. I know that galaxy nexus has lower specs but is optimized for ICS and galaxy s2 Have higher specs and will get ICS but i want to know who will perform better in the future OS (android 5.0,6.0 etc....) may be it is a rom or official one and will handle games smoothly?(
I had seen a video on youtube- a comparison between GS2 and GN on gaming. Asphalt 6 is the game and the GN is able to run the games a little smoother than GS2. knowing that gs2 has more powerful gpu how is that possible?
How well does the GN's camera compete with GS2's camera? is the difference really huge in quality and details with GS2?
Lastly, I know the GN's screen is HD but a pentile one and the s2 is not pentile. Does the screen in the GN is obviously better than GS2 (like on the picture and watching movie that on GN's screen difference with s2 is very noticeable?) or does the difference is not that noticeable unless you look at it very near?
i know it's a bit long but i will say thank you in advance for clarifying these to me.
Wait for Galaxy S3, its coming in May 3rd.
performance... i think when do you want more performance, you should choose galaxy nexus.

Reason?
Korean Galaxy s2 -Why did you choose GN even though it has a lower specs?
OK I'll take a minute. I have the Gnex and my wife the S2.
OK for sure the s2 has a bit faster CPU and gpu. But to be honest nobody notices the difference. Both are fast and smooth. I put aokp on my wife's s2 yesterday and it's fast as hell. Just like the Gnex. What really sucks is that the Gnex doesn't have a micro SD slot.
But the main difference and the biggest is the screen and the camera. The super AMOLED HD screen is absolutely amazing the colors and definition are the best. The camera from the s2 has 8MP but the fotos and videos from the Gnex are just better. Fotos and videos on the s2 just look a bit weak compared to the gnex .
And for the future I think that the Gnex will handle the updates just a bit better because of the plain vanilla

Audio and camera quality comparison questions.

Well im on verizon and in DESPERATE need upgrade from my tbolt. I am really interested in the one x but verizon isnt going to offer it. In fact the only thing that seems worth it on verizon is the s3. Ive looked for revies but can find any that compares the Samsungs audio and htc beats audio. Can anyone tell me what they think is better for sound?
As far as camera goes, it looks like the one x has better/more features with its camera. Please correct me if im wrong.
the s3 will have the wolfson dac audio chip, supercurio a member here will work wonders for the audio.
check out voodoo sound on the sgs forums
There isn't much difference in the cameras overall to be honest (I have a One X, and also had hands-on the S3). In good lighting conditions the S3 takes slightly better shots, in lower light the One X does. S3 does better video.
In relation to audio - I didn't have enough time to properly A/B the S3, but the (international) One X SQ is very average.

Should I or Shouldn't I get a New SII?

Hi guys,
I was a defy user previously. They I got Nokia N9, bored with it and sold it. Now I want a new phone, not necessarily the latest one, but the one which has a good Custom ROM support, resale value and good VFM. I can't even think about another phone like SGS II. So here are my questions..
1. Is SGS II 's SAMOLED plus screen good enough after 1 + years? I read a Sammy statement of degrading picture quality of SAMOLED Plus..
2. How is SGS II's SQ? Is SGS II a decent Audio player? I was very much disappointed with Nokia N9 though the OS is good. Reading things about Yamaha DAC not being efficient and all.
3. How is the emmc bug doing? Has it been rectified fully at least the newer 2012 batches? I like to flash a LOT of custom ROMs and I don't want to brick the device or lose NAND memory. My previous Defy was a star when coming to ROM flashing even-though it had a locked bootloader.
4. Why there is so much buzz about 720p screens and 300+ ppi lately? I find SII's screen so much sufficient and with full HD playback. Should I go for a phone with full HD screen?
5. Lastly, I'm going to buy this from the US, which variant (GSM) should I get? I'm sure that the International version is better, but I can live with least custom ROMs for a cheaper price tag (like that Walmart deal) and this beautiful screen.
Thanks a ton in advance,
Wolvish

You should
1. I've had my s2 for over a year and the screen is still great.
2. I don't use it to play music
3. It's a non issue. I flash a LOT of stuff and have never been affected by it. Just do research, there's a lot of information on it
4. You'll be paying for it. To me, it's not worth paying top dollar for the s3 when the s2 screen is more than enough. Especially if you get a good deal.
5. I'm from Canada and have no idea about their variants. Just try to get a 9100

1. My galaxy SII is over a year already and the screen is still prefect
2. Audio quality is just ok, nothing more than that but if you want better sound quality, then you might need third party players like the excellent PowerAmp.
3. Emmc bug only affects the stock ICS 4.0.4 firmware. The bug is present on their stock kernel.
So flashing any custom kernel will cure the problem. Emmc bug wiki never affect you if you know what you are doing, can ask questions, and can read through the sticky threads.
Flashing in galaxy SII is breeze, nothing is locked, thanks to Samsung, and impossible is nothing
4. This one is left to you. You already already said galaxy SII screen is enough for you.
5. Buy At&T variant. It's almost the same thing as the international version and Most of our stuffs still work on it.
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII
I was looking at phones recently and the form factor of the S2 is still one of the msot convenient around, the S3 is truly bigger.
For the flash part, I screwed up did bad flashes bricked it and had no problem fixing it so I guess its not that easy to break
Thank you guys.. I'm really interested in the new Droid Razr M too, especially the size. Is that a better choice than this? I guess it'll cost about the same..
well,im a "late" s2 user myself. i got it 2 weeks or less ago, and all i can say its very nice phone.
screen-wise, yes, you are getting only 480-800 which is maybe a bit pixelated if youre coming from HD/retina screens.
However, the colours and overall touch sensitivity/screen quality is probably the best i touched so far uncomparable to anything actually, amoled is a story by itself.
Other things, you have some really decent hardware still, everything is silky-smooth and phone reacts awesome to any action.
judging from some threads in this s2 forums, it seems to be getting jelly (4.1) in november + you have really really awesome dev support (custom roms etc)
I wld say GO FOR IT. its still an awesome phone.
cheers
Also Galaxy SII HD LTE. And Samsung Galaxy SII X are available in USA i think...
But if you want a big support then choose i9100 or at&t one.. If u choose new variants you wo t get that much support
Peace
Hit Thanks & It will Disappear

^^ But HD LTE version has got a PenTile display. I'm not interested. I'm more towards custom ROMs and good multimedia support.
Linky
How about this one instead of regular S II? I would definitely buy it for a better resolution and better DAC..
