Lapdock 100 confirmed on Engadget - Motorola Photon 4G

It basically looks like the Webtop Lapdock, but with chrome accents, and can connect to a number of high end Moto devices, such as the newly announced Atrix 2 and also our Photon, via what appears to be a dongle. Launches exclusively on AT&T on Oct. 13th followed by launches at other locations (Sprint?) later this month. No price yet.
Anyone interested? This guy is.

That's great news!
Webtop is quite slow, not productive enough. I always wonder whether moto is going to seriously speed it up.

From a hardware standpoint, webtop performs ok when compared to an equivalent netbook. Not too long ago those single core Atom netbooks could barely play youtube vids. The eyecandy is it main hindrance and the patch work coding doesn't help.
I've already discussed possible improvements with moto and there response was pretty much "webtop's awesome, everybody loves it, the hardware can't support a real desktop enviroment and who would want that anyway." My rebuttal was to show them my Photon running, at that time, a prerelease of Ubuntop using the lapdock. "We don't get it." was what I got in return at which point I walked away.

I have a single core 1.6 intel atom netbook and im sure my photons hardware blows it out the water lol. I need a full fedora distro on this thing = perfect phone

That's pretty legit. I might actually ponder getting one if I don't get a tablet instead.

You know what, I had an Asus TF. Great device, great support. I traded it and went back to my NC running CM7 via Phirenook. 7 is such a good form factor, I slide it into my binder and have my text/web resources at my fingertips, right beside my notes. I have magazines on there and books, and with that screen...things are easy to read.
That being said, I'm hoping a 7" model of Xoom 2 is announced and or the Galaxy Tab 7 is price appropriate, because there is something incredibly utilitarian about a tablet the size of a paperback. My $.02.
Edit: Locks like the Lapdock is going to run $249. Hmmmm.

Ah, the "100" was misleading - wish that was the price

Here's what I've found so far for the specs...
4G LTE capability
Five-row QWERTY keyboard
4-inch Samsung Super AMOLED display
Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor
1.3-megapixel (front) camera
5-megapixel (rear) camera
Mobile hotspot capability
AllShare
Samsung Media Hub
Bluetooth 3.0
DivX and XviD support
Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n
Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
Support for Cisco AnyConnect 2.1 SSL VPN
Encryption Services
Support for Sybase Afaria
So it looks like its' CPU is comparable to the Fascinate, in fact it looks like the only major differences are 4G, a slide out QWERTY keyboard, and Gingerbread built-in.
I gotta say that I'm tempted to get this. I kinda wish it had a Dual-core CPU and Tegra GPU, but I just might pull the trigger anyway. Any news on if this phone will take current Fascinate ROMs with modification?
I'd LOVE to throw CM7 on this sucker...
Yay..... the epic comes to verizon a year later....
good day.
Strange deals between Samsung and VZW !
Edit: wait a minute... that means and official Gb release from VZW easily ported to the fassy.
PWGB,TKSGB10-10, adren shot xix, honeycomb2.03, ec09 radio.
Why would you want this when the Nexus Prime is just a ways reach away?
This phone is pretty sub-par to what is newly released.. this will probably be the phone for the average user who wants 4G.
Well, I'm looking at it for my wife. Who sends about 700 text messages a month. She WILL NOT USE AN ON SCREEN KEYBOARD. If you're not married, then you won't understand why you can't try to enlighten your wife.
Sadly, although it should work the same as a Charge, the demo unit at Verizon didn't scroll or pinch-zoom without the page bouncing around, and I suspect it was some Verizon demo mode that was completely hosing it, and no way I could find to turn that mode off, and while the salesmen/women tried to help, they were just as ignorant as me.
I came here looking to find out if there were any problems. Instead there's just 'tude.
BTW, I think I'm getting the Galaxy Nexus for myself.
I had the stratosphere for 3 days and took it back. Keys on keyboard were to small, the bloatware was unbelievable, the battery life sucked, and everytime I tried to open the keyboard the damn thing nearly flew out of my hand. It was bad enough I opted for another fascinate, a refurb no less. That was my experience.

So far two days into owning the Stratosphere and loving it. After getting the root applied to the phone and removing some of the bloat the phone is really running well. If you desire an QWERTY keyboard with 4G LTE on Verizon this is not a bad option. Yes its not as powerful as the upcoming devices coming out I'll be completely honest but on its own its pretty solid so far for me.
24-Hours in...
Picked up this phone yesterday. Got it from Radio Shack for FREE with a 2-year contract renewal.
So far I am really liking it. Upgraded from an HTC Droid Eris. BIG difference!
I also wish it had a dual-core processor, but this is a great phone for free. Looks like Target and Best Buy are now offering this phone for free too.
Now just need to be able to root and flash to ICS.

Considering ordering a Prime. Would you do it again?

Hey all!
My wife and I are in the market for tablets. Both of us are in school. We both want to be able to watch movies including Netflix. And we both need the ability to create and modify Word docs.
I've been doing a lot of research and think the Prime might be the best solution for us. However, the iPad is also a contender.
If you had to do it over again, which would you get and why?
Thanks for your input!
Why ask why?

i would do it again in a heartbeat i love it and no tablet can match it and once it gets ics the world peace will start
i would do it again. reasons? it is more powerful than ipad2, once some software comes out that utilizes it, it will be even more of a beast. the dock adds a whole world of utility to this tablet. also, I think it is the best looking tablet.

Yep what he said.
I would do it again without hesitation. Apple devices are locked down, and therefore restrictive. With an Android tablet, you can do much much more!
It can also be customized to make it your own! Without hesitation, YES- I would do it again...
By far the best tablet I have ever owned and used. Blows the ipad 2 away in my opinion and the gaming is just amazing.

I agree 100%
i would do it again, the biggest reason for using it over an ipad2 is the dock, if you're planning to do a decent amount of word processing on a tablet, the TF line with their respective docks provide the best user experience in that regard compared to any other tablet on the market.
if i had to do it again id wait for ics. Im not overly impressed with the prime. I think once apps and os can be optimized for quadcore then it will be the best tablet. But for now most apps and HC are not so you wont see a significant difference.

exactly, short n to the point. this device has me more satisfied than with my Og iPad.
I know I am digging this up from a while ago, but...Would you still do it? I just ordered one from HHgregg for the $399 price ($411 with shipping). I have been watching these forums and doing research but I jumped at the lower price..so I ask you...
Would you buy this again? If not at full retail, then at the 399 price?
Edit: I'm pretty sure this should be in Q&A...Sorry about that, I just dug it up using the similar thread functionality

Document editor

Hey all, I'm looking for an app that can edit documents. I want to be able to hand write or sign documents. I deal with contracts daily and sometimes have to meet my clients mobile. Right now I'm using an iPad, but want to make the switch to a tablet. This is the only thing holding me back from the switch. Anyone know of such an app?
TIA!

You can see if "Documents To Go" is available is it is an absolutely wonderful app. You can read Excel, Word, and Powerpoint on this app and edit also with the paid version.

Really? I have the paid version, I have never seen the option to be able to 'write' or sign on a document....
Can you do that? I'm looking now...lol
There's a couple here, but I can't verify personally that they work.

Love this line! LOL
Anyway, can you say a little bit more about what you are looking for? Are these Word documents you want to sign? What app are you currently using in the iOS world (so we can look it up and see what it does). If they are Word docs, are you comfortable converting them to PDF?
Also, with regards to writing, most tablets don't do very well unless they have something like a Wacom digitizer or similar tech in them. The iPad series doesn't have this. There are only a couple Android tablets that do (HTC Flyer, Thinkpad tablet) and there is a new Asus MeMo tablet that looks like it might support a stylus.
Now, if you are talking a more full blown "computer" tablet, then you might want to look at the Samsung Series 7 Slate or the Asus EP121 which would both do an excellent job for you but they come with a higher price tag (though not much higher than a 64gb iPad 2) and the battery life is a fraction of most modern day tablets.
Anyway, hope that helps.

Well I'm not sure you can hand write on a word document via PC ipad or android. But I know I can save a word doc to PDF and then edit (hand write) on the PDF. That is currently what I am doing on my iPad. That is what I would like to be able to do on an Android tablet...It works pretty well when I meet with my clients. Guess I'm just getting the bug to switch to Android tablet, but I don't know....hmm...

[GSMARENA Petition] Join our quest for a high-end compact Android smartphone....

Want manufacturers to make Mobile Phones Mobile Phone sized?, read on and sign.
Over the last few years, Android has taken the smartphone world by storm, climbing to the top spot in just about every major market out there. The Google platform offers a mix of features that can't be matched by any of its competitors and is offered on hardware so diverse that it has covered almost every conceivable market segment.
However, with recent trends in flagship droids, we feel there's a substantial group of users that is being ignored. As Android top dogs all choose huge screens for their high-end offerings, those looking to experience the most capable hardware in a mid-sized smartphones are left out in the dry. Despite the large number of companies committed to the Android cause, there's not a single manufacturer to come up with a handset to match the raw power and display brilliance of the Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One or Sony Xperia Z in a shell that's as easy to pocket as, say, the Apple iPhone 5.

I hope many more do and the manufactures get the point. I'm struggling to finally decide on what I'm going to upgrade to come the end of the month, the Z would be the obvious choice, but the size is an issue. Not all of us work in an office where we can sit it nicely displayed on the desk, 5"+ screens for those of us doing some real grafting can take up needed pocket space and you've to worry about leaning against stuff when you're working.

The tablet built for G2 owners

For some reason LG has failed to advertise the LG G pad , The ui is identical to the G2 and you can use the qpair app to pair them together, I can even send text messages through my phone. The tablet is basically an 8.3 inch g2 with an expandable micro sd slot , dual speakers and the same beautiful screen as the G2. I just bought mine today and It is great. I came across it here on xda tonight and went to best buy and bought it. I am hoping that some of our awsome devs here will look into picking up one of these bad boys.

I'm about to buy a tablet and Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.4 Pro is surely the better choise at its price than the gpad 8.3, specswise. On the other hand the qpair funcionality is way too cool to pass unnoticed. I searched but didn't find anything relevant, is there a similar app to qpair than can do the same job, at least to a certain extent? I mean direct communication between the devices, not syncing through 3rd party services like dropbox for photos or pushbullet for notifications.
How long did it take you to find a thread that's been dead for almost a year? Lol
Maybe he types really slowly? Best we don't judge the poor guy. I'll check back next year for a reply.
Funny. I looked for something relevant to avoid starting a new one. So any other good jokes? c'mon now that we started don't let it die again..
