Turn off auto focus on video recording - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
is there any way to turn off auto focus on video recording? To make a video with auto focus on is very sad. I hope someone of you has an idea.

There might be a solution in the future and the person working on it started this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104051
Furthermore, I heard that the T-mobile version of the SGS2 has a camera.apk that does not have focus problems - even on GSM Arena they say that the PRE-Focus on record bug is also gone.
I am hoping that maybe someone can rip the camera.apk (deodiex it) from the stock SGS2 T-mobile firmware and try it on our phone as they have the exact same camera modules and shared lib's.
Until then - we will probably have to wait till Potatoman gets back to working on his mod.

Are there any news about turning off the auto focus?

I'm also very interested in it. Hope that someone could port it for us

yes.. i can off autofocus but not worked exposition.. For detales (how this in real life) we can see program LGCamera

MIUI has a simple option to turn it off during video. I know this won't help you.. Just sayin'

Maybe it will be helpful to get the camera.apk from the MIUI Rom?

[MOD][UPDATE] Working CM6 Video/Camera on MIUI ROM 12.18

Hello.
UPDATE4: Sorry for the delay, but it is quite annoying to adapt the camera to a new build every week.
Fixed: green tint in photos with A/W and Flash.
Bug: Because the new application "file explorer" depends libmedia.so and also the camera, there is a bug with the file explorer, FC in certain files. Sorry i'm not a developer.
http://www.mediafire.com/?l68k9jsc5v3g26t NOT SIGNED.
UPDATE3: Finally fixed and working version with MIUI ROM 12.03. Credits for all people that have collaborated with this port:
vauss from www.htcmania.com
Special thanks to bigrushdog from miui-dev
apside and arasthel from htcmania.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZGVU97F4
UPDATE2: Fixed and working in the last MIUI ROM 12.03.
UDPATE1: Finally working Videocamera on MIUI. I have copied all libs related with camera on MIUI Rom. I post two versions: one with CM6 kernel and other only the camera.apk with libs. Sorry but the zip aren't signed. . There is only a bug, the button for change between cam/video don't work, you must change with Option Button. Sorry i don't know how fix it
I have managed to run the camara.apk of CM6 in MIUI ROM, but the camrecorder does not work. When I try to activate the video appears FC. I can see a picture on the camera but then the application closes.
I've done using the framework of the EVO MIUI 4G and CM6 camera libraries. Why? Well until i know miui evo4g rom is the unique miui rom that can run cm6 camera.apk. so i have copied framework.jar on my N1 rom. I don,t understand why camrecorder does not work. I will attach my logcat if someone can fix it
Please try it and send me feedback. PLEASE: I am not responsible for anything. I've only put together parts of several ROM to make it work. I have not programed anything. All credit to the people of CM6, EVO4G MIUI-Rom and MIUI-ROM.

Yes but with his pack in actual MIUI Rom does not work. With this pack photo cam now works, but there are problems with video. I think that the actual error is diferent that flak0.
If anyone can take a look to my logcat...
great progress so far! you weren't kidding when you said you were going to give it a shot
btw folks, over at miui-dev there is a running bounty for getting this to work.. feel free to make your pledge!
i thought it has been this way
there were other tried it and the regular camera worked, but not the cam-corder
Update.
Always same error when try to activate camcoder. I think that there are a factible solution, beacause, the camcoder starts normaly but after 1 sec appears FC.
Please, someone can help me?
i paste the errors on logcat.
perhaps charansingh could help out since he's an expert in this area?

UPDATE1: Update first post
After i installed your camera my N1 still on X
good job, matter of time till all the bugs are ironed out
i was the first one to even attempt to get the CM6 CAM working on MIUI and i succeeded. The issue with CAM is not in the framework but in the actual libs, their is some serious dependency going on with libmedia.so and others. I havent tried to compile since the change to 2.2.1 as MIUI was based of 2.2 and that could have been the error. OP let me caution you, if you simply use the framework.jar from another ROM it will break a lot of MIUI functionality.
I will give it a shot and see if it works, If I am successful I will update my thread. Thanks

I've got an application where the camera does work with rom of AOSP ICS SG2
It's called : PAPER CAMERA,

Still why does this work with paper camera and, (it's silly because if they didn't add filter i could recorder some video through the apps.
If someone can look into it, or ask to PAPER CAMERA developers would be great
it would be great for getting an apps working with ICS or

Yeah, my english isn't perfect, and I don't see the connection with my post that is there to provide information that could solve a problem on ICS video recording, but hey next time, I could do without the desire to give information / advice. Besides the fact that deletes a post because I made a duplicate unintentionally, and remove the one with full title
I do not ask the developer changed the application of CAMERA PAPER, only to see why it works and making the change in the native android application.
In short, I would have done better to have no consideration, and you want to help you be bored !

Can't use camera app and camera required apps.

I can't use the camera app. Sing! app by smule is also not working perfectly. When I start to sing with the video recording turned on, it starts recording nicely and my face is shown in the screen through my webcam. But after my recording, i can't see any video that recorded. A black screen is showing instead of that.
So please help me....
I am using Remix OS for PC.
If the camera is not working, it means that the drivers are probably missing from the kernel.
There are threads here that deal with replacing the kernel, so you should checl them as they may help.

As I has already stated, there are multiple threads dedicated to that purpose, you just need to search the subforum, and I stress this, the is a search function, you need to search and read.

Google camera port with Hdr+ (abandoned)

This is kinda work in progress port of Gcam with hdr+ for arm devices. it's based on google camera version 4.2.035.141213305-arm.
it needs camera api 2 enabled. you can enable it via flashing the zip I've attached or add below line into build.prop.
Code:
persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1
Stock rom is preferred, but it should work on all roms as long as above requirement is met.
Google camera apk
Please let me know if auto/touch focus works or not. happy testing :good:
Credit : @defcomg
Requires TWRP for flashing zip. or root for manually editing build.prop
Nice to see another thread on this..
Is root needed??
Also please try new Google camera APK.
Appreciate your work.
I see many devices having their own port of Google camera with more or less features, did you tried some of them on g5s? GCam ports for other devices on g5s?

Newer gcam apks are 64bit only so they won't work on phones with 32bit os like g5/g5s/g5+/g5s+ etc. this also needs root or custom recovery like TWRP to flash attached zip. i don't have this phone that's why i posted it here so others can see if it works.
slowmotion video won't work, nor i will fix it. since stock cam have that option already. this is only for hdr+.

Interesting, just to be sure you have set hdr+ to always on ? how's the image quality now tho ? any improvements ?
can you post some samples with/without hdr+ ? :good:
I also tried this port. Work quite fine, on screen in live capturing there's some light/colours distortions, but in the shot in the gallery is perfect. The app sometimes crashes, but it's still usable.
Shots with her+ shows a good quality in low light with good noise reduction and details compared to stock camera app. When I'll got some free time I'll post samples.
I tried this camera, my phone is not rooted and wouldn't know about api2 able... Wouldn't mess up with system files... Anyway, I installed this camera and works... Photos have good detail on them, only problem is a bit too much noise and it creates a raw file that I never asked... Anyway, hope the developer manages to reduce noise and stop that raw file... Thanks

Oh yeah auto/touch focus works
kraatus90- Is this different from the version on the G5+ forums in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/themes/potentially-google-camera-port-t3684264
I've been playing with that one all day on my G5+ (non S variant, single camera), but the focus issue is driving me bonkers. Even the posted "workaround" which requires going to video and focusing, then going back and trying to lock focus... sometimes the focus will drift when the camera reinits upon photo mode.

Are you on an S or regular Moto 5+? The S version, as I understand, has camera2 already enabled by default. I think the dual camera stock setup uses it internally so it was always there. As far as it working without root- the app itself doesn't require root to run, however if you have a phone that lacks Camera2 API, you'd need to root in order to fix that.

I have G5 plus. Yes, I know that app itself doesn't require root; indeed, I was referring to enabling the Camera2 API.
I guess I'll have to wait for Oreo update which will have it enabled by default :/

What makes you think that? Api2 has been around since Lollipop, I think phones leave it disabled when it isn't needed by the stock camera. For example, the G5S plus (which this thread is referring to) has it enabled, even on Nougat, and I think that's because the dual camera thing required some fancy magic in the stock app to make it work, and that was accessible via api2.
BTW, I'm not rooted, but I unlocked my bootloader and changed the build.prop through recovery to add the line. Still mostly stock on my G5 plus (non S variant, like yours).
moto has opted for 32bit operating system and apparently the google camera port only works with devices with 64bit os

S9+ - no more video recording button after Pie Update ?!

Hello S9+ Fans,
yesterday I updated my S9+ to Android Pie. Lots of new, nice things.
But in the new camera app the video recording button is no longer available. You have to FIRST switch to video mode and them press recording button. To have two buttons, one for Photos and one for videos was a brilliant, very much loved thing. As when you are 'in action' you simply can decide with one click what you aim to do, without priorly having to switch the modes !
Does anybody know how to get the second button back ?
I am even extremely thinking about bringing the old camera app back if it is not possible with the new one. Is there any way to do this please ?
Sorry if I might have overseen a thread handling this already.
Kind regards
Any fix for this?
First they took out dual camera mode then these "dual shooting buttons"... and moved the clock to the left whyyy samsung??!! Not happy with the Android 9 pie s9 s9+ plus update.
Moving the clock was a Google decision, not Samsung's.

The real fail here is the manual video mode removal :silly:
Very stupid decision
This change is a minor annoyance and I'll adjust but it is an annoyance none the less...
I wonder what the thinking was here? Surely no one can consider this an improvement..
This is a freaking useless change and it's totally impractical. Nobody asked for this stupid change and yet, as usual, Samsung decided to implement it...
With android, you just root and change whatever you want. Or use another application suitable.

Yeah but that's not the point. + with Samsung, if you want to use most of the Knox features, root is a no go.
The point is that a software update removes a feature, which is not only useless but also detrimental to the user.
Hey, at least I can find the video mode now because it says the word "video". I had to spend 10 minutes on google to discover how the hell to record video the first time I wanted to do it on my s9+ because there wasn't anything anywhere that looked like it would make video.

.......and therein lies your answer to why things like this happen...
I'm sure a number of people in this boat complained to Samsung the first time around and so they removed this useful feature.
This is why we can't have nice things...LOL!

I'd rather hear his complaint than the ones that can't get used to companies changing things. What's the term I'm looking for? Adapt other die? No, that's to harsh and don't wish death. Get used to it? I don't think that's clear enough. Maybe people should just stop recording things, I mean, if someone did that to you you'd tell them to stop. No, you won't be YouTube rich any time soon kids, sorry
why do we have to get used to "changes from companies" that downgrade the abilities of our phones? You must be trolling, there s no other excuse of your unreasoning way of thinking.
Is there any way to install the old camera still having the two buttons ?

your only practical choice may be installing a third party video camera app from the play store.

This is not an option for me as it would put me in an even worse situation. Samsung's camera uses the camera at its most. Any other app has not that brilliant pics + vids with that device.
