Remove sent/received messages from call log... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Anybody know how to do this? I'm running the latest Cog with the 12 bar mod. It's just annoying me a bit lol. Tried filtering it already...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App

AFAIK UnNamed is the only ROM that removes them. I don't know how to do it manually.

Replace your existing LogsProvider.apk (in system/app) with the one I attached. It disables texts from appearing in the call log (you'll have to clear your log to start fresh, but they won't appear after that). I pulled it from GTG's ROM. It'll work fine. You can either use Root Explorer, adb, or I can make you a flashable zip.

Make a backup to be safe, but here it is .

Is there one that will work on the stock rom? I've done no mods yet, only rooted.

I'm not sure. The base of where I got the file is based on stock, so I know it's compatible. What does your system/app folder look like? Are the files ending in .apk? Is there only one of each?

Thanks Simba and I will be sure to hit the thanks button when I get to my PC!
EDIT: The CWM file flashed successfully from the recovery, but after I wiped my current log and sent a sms it still appeared in my log. Will try to push it manually.
EDIT (Again): Manually pushing it with Root Explorer then a reboot got it working flawlessly...thanks again!!!

There's:
LogsProvider.apk (8.68k)
LogsProvider.odex (41.42k)
I tried the ones you uploaded, but they both caused force closes. Switched back to the original one for the time being.

ohh, yeah I don't know how to make it work with odexed. If I may offer a recommendation, GTG's or DG's ROM both offer the stock experience, with enhancements and more compatibility.

Right on, that's the way I'm leaning at this point. Was just being stubborn and trying to keep the stock rom for a while with my own modifications. Thanks, anyways! =)

I'm using GoSMS so I just uninstalled the default messaging app via TiBU. Bam, no more texts in the call logs. I don't know why Samsung thought it would be a good idea to not allow us to filter texts from the logs.

thank you... looking for this for so long

[MOD]Edited Dialer to go to Google Voice

This is a simple mod I just did for myself and other people who use Google Voice as their Voice Mail can benefit from it. My system deodexed when I use it, so I'm not sure if it is a requirement or not to be deodexed.
What this mod does is redirect the bottom left Voice Mail button from going to the Verizon Visual Voice Mail app to instead open up Google Voice. So if you use Google Voice app for Voice Mail feel free to use this mod.
Simply place the app in your /system/app/ thus writing over the existing DialerTabActivity.apk, though first I'd suggest making a backup of the existing Dialer if you don't already have a backup somewhere. Google Voice users enjoy.
Edit: Uploaded a flashable .zip. Currently running DJ05, I've heard that the DialerTabActivity I posted earlier works on DJ05, but for some reason it kept force closing for myself. Flashable zip contains the dialer I use now, same function going to Google Voice.
Awesome! Thank you!
Awesome. I was gonna look into doing exactly this tonight, and now I don't have to Thanks!

Thanks for the mod.
Great Job!
That's awesome, but is it possible to point it to a different app?
I'd be happiest with it pointing to Vlingo (as in, listen now), but pointing it to YouMail would be nice too.
Works great - Thanks!

Not receiving picture texts.....

Hello all, I was hoping someone may have run into this and might could give me some feedback.
I have my phone rooted, and use Handcent for texting. I have no problems sending pictures......and up until recently, I've had no problems receiving pictures either. At first I thought it was just going to be iPhone users, but have since experienced the problem getting pics from various phones and carriers.
iPhone4 - Verizon
iPhone3 - AT&T
Samsung Eternity - AT&T
There are a few others as well. I have disabled the original messaging app, and only use Handcent. I've had no problems until the past couple of weeks. I am wondering if maybe it isn't an update issue from Handcent......I know it has manually updated a couple of times in the past few weeks.
Anyone have any suggestions?
What do you mean when you say you disabled the original app?
What ROM/kernel are you using?

Firmware 2.1update1
Kernel 2.6.29
I rooted simply to remove bloatware, I haven't changed to any of the different ROM's or anything.
I deleted MMS.apk. I wanted to try to reinstall it, to see if maybe one of the Handcent updates caused the problem somehow, after I deleted the MMS app......but I can't get it to install. I downloaded the MMS.apk on my desktop, and open it through MyFiles. I've done a few apps this way, no problem.
MMS.apk you have to push to /system/app
You cant install it like you would a normal apk.

You can install it with ESFile Explorer if you are rooted. You can find it on the market for free. You'll then need to find a mms.apk place it on your sdcard.. then using ESFile copy the apk and place it in system/apps/
Another option would be to download GeekSMS.. it runs on its on without the mms.apk. I've tried it and it worked fine for me.

Ok, I have it on my SD....and long press -----> copy, but can't figure out how to paste it into RE.
Sorry for being such a noob.
Ok, figured out how to paste in RootExplorer.
Now that I did that, I ran MMS after pasting......it still won't install. It boots like its going to install the app, then I get a message saying it didn't install. I got the same thing when I just copied the APK into MyFiles and tried installing it.
What am I missing?
You're not supposed to try and install it. You move it into the /system/app and then it should show up in your app drawer.

[Q] IS it possible to switch dialer apks

I want to switch dialer apk from one rom to another should just use take files and place them in rom from my computer using win zip then re flash the rom? is there an easier way... sometimes it doesn't take...
Take the dialers...
The original one located in system/app
Rename it from dialer.apk to dialer.apk.bak
Then put the other dialer in, system/app
Reboot see if it works fine.
If it doesn't you'll get fcs.
If it works then it works.
If it doesn't...
Go back to system/app
Delete the dialer.apk you got from another rom.
And the original you had remove.bak from it and reboot..
I suggest you only switch apk from vibrant roms, using others like... Htc dialer probably won't work and sometimes you may have to re flash rom.
P.s.
Use root explorer to do the renaming moving etc. it's a paid app, worth it!
If you want a free, use astro file manager

[MOD] Contacts.apk (Yellow Pages REMOVED)

Here is a modified stock AT&T Contacts.apk file without the permanent Yellow Pages contact at the top. The is for rooted users only.
Replace the Contacts.apk in /system/app using Root Explorer. Change it's permissions to RW-R--R--. Reboot!
WARNING: Do not use this for any custom ROMs, only for use on a stock AT&T ROM! Also, remember to make backups...
Funny, I never even noticed the YP thingy on the top of my contacts till now. How lame. When I clicked on it, I got a force close. I must have already frozen whatever that button links to...
Thanks, maybe that apk can be swapped out for the stock one in our custom rom(s)...

Niceeeee. Like to see dev work like this. Great work. This should maybe be in the themes and apps section though. Not a criticism.
How obnoxious of them to stick that YP in the contacts ?
Thanks, I tried posting in dev but it said not enough posts . I remove the yp app and mine force closed also when clicking the contact. It's crazy how much bloat ware came on this thing. I'd like to see a stock Samsung contacts.apk to see what else they hacked up
So just did this and now Contacts is missing from my app drawer and it wont launch from my launcher tray......... and I cant make calls the phone shortcut is gone.....

I have it, PM me you email addy I'll mail it over to you. I would upload it but I'm at work right now.
I haven't tested this on any of the custom ROMs, only the stock AT&T ROM. I'm not sure what they did with their Contacts.apk file. If you upload the one from your ROM, I can see if I can make the same mods that I did to the AT&T one.
Didn't work for me either, and also copied it over stock apk and don't have a backup. Using TPC V2 ROM. Any one have stock Contacts.apk for that rom?

[THEME][APK][AT&T][ODEXED]-Accuweather

1. You use this at your own risk, if you mess up your phone its your own fault, I'm not responsible for it
2. Make a backup copy of the AccuweatherPhone2013.apk some where on your phone
2. If you are not on at&t, do not try these without a custom recovery (twrp or cwm). Minor differences in these system files can easily cause a boot loop, which in the absence of a recovery can be a soft brick!
3. Copy the AccuweatherPhone2013.apk to /system/app set permissions reboot

Thanks. This is working for me. However, after doing this, I had to recreate all of my other widgets as well. I had two alarms and the Google Song ID widgets - all of which disappeared after doing this. I was able to add them all back and they seem to be working fine.

I thought it was quiet. I used root explorer on the phone to make the changes. Here's the process I did:
1. Downloaded your file to my PC
2. Extracted the .apk
3. Removed the existing Accuweather widget from my home screen
4. Cleared Accuweather cache
5. Used Root Explorer to copy existing apk to another location (copy, not move)
6. Renamed existing apk to .bak via Root Explorer
7. Copied your apk to the "Download" folder on the phone from my PC
8. Used Root Explorer to drop your apk into the System/Apps directory
9. Rebooted
10. Added widget - worked and looks great
11. Scrolled to the next screen to the right of my home screen
12. Saw my two alarms and Google Song ID widgets missing
13. Added them back
14. Tested all widgets and all are working
So, I don't know if I did something wrong in the process, but that was the exact flow of what I did. Either way, again, thanks. I had been using the 50% Accuweather on my S2 forever. I really like that look and you delivered it on my S4. Adding back a few widgets doesn't bother me at all.
Can anyone re-up this for me?
