Factory Reset with broken screen - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I broke my I9100s screen and want to wipe all data on the phone before I sell it. I especially need to make sure pictures and videos are deleted! Unfortunately my screen is totally black now (from barely visible) and I can't see the menus I navigate through. Also the touchscreen only works on the upper half of the screen so I am pretty much limited to the hardware buttons. I already tried VOLUP+HOME+POWER -> VOLDWN+VOLDWN -> POWER but it didnt work (when i rebooted the phone it logged right into my wifi so I am pretty sure its not wiped). Can anyone tell me if there is another way to do it (maybe using usb connection?) or whether I am doing anything wrong? TIA

flash a wipe rom from intratech thread through odin and you will be guarantueed that none of your data will be on the phone.

Pretty sure that does not wipe the sd card, where the pictures and videos are stored. What happens when you connect it to a pc, can you access the sd card?

Usb Connection mass storage mode if it will see your phone format sd card if not see if Kies can find phone .
jje

I tried Kies but it keeps saying "Connecting..." but never does.
Also I dont know how to enter mass storage mode without the touch screen.
Anyone?

Exact same question months ago dont know if the poster found a solution .
jje

How can u sell a phone with broken screen? Just curious.

What recovery do you have. If it's a custom one you might be able to get adb working and start a shell to clear stuff from the sd.

The phone still uses Stock-ROM/Recovery.
You can sell it on eBay. Currently SGS2 with broken screen is about 200-250€s.

In case anyone cares:
Follow these steps exactly to factory reset your phone (worked for me, unmodded SGS2):
Hold VOL-UP and HOME Buttons
Press POWER for 2-4 secs
Release VOL-UP + HOME after ~15 seconds
Press VOL-DOWN x 2
Press HOME
Press VOL-DOWN x 7
Press HOME
After that a factory reset will be performed. I dont know how long it takes but just white a while (5-10 mins?) and then remove battery to turn off phone.

A replacement lcd screen costs about 120 bucks on ebay. Here anyway.

Success with factory reset
Thank you XebozZ... I found this thread very useful after my Samsung Galaxy S2 screen was broken and I could not access my data via my PC as the screenlock was activated.
I would like to add some more detail as it took me some time to activate the factory reset. Note the factory reset removed the pin but the user files such as photos, videos, music etc were still available.
I believe the timing of the button pressing is critical to get in to the Recovery Mode.
Remove battery and re-insert to be sure phone is powered down
Press VOL-UP, HOME & POWER buttons together (pressing POWER last) for 1-5 seconds (you may have to perform several iterations 1s, 2s, 3s... 5s to get timing perfect)
Wait 10 seconds to be sure you are in Recovery Mode
Press VOL-DOWN x 2 (to get to wipe data/factory reset)
Press HOME (to select wipe data/factory reset)
Press VOL-DOWN x 7 (to select Yes - delete all user data)
Press HOME (to complete erase)
Wait 1 min to be sure erase complete
Remove battery and restart phone. Check connection with PC via Samsung Kies or similar.
This eventually worked for me so keep the faith and be patient.
FYI I verified the recovery menu options by searching through Google Images for "Samsung Galaxy S2 recovery mode"

[Q] LG MyTouch: Locked out

Hey XDA! my friend is currently locked out of my LG MyTouch. The phone came out a little over a week ago so there's no forum dedicated to it yet, so I'm posting here.
She used a pattern lock and can't remember the Pattern nor her Gmail account or her password. With the past two Android phones I had, I would just Boot into recovery (Vol. Down & Power button), but this phone won't load into one. I also tried Vol. Up and Power. Nothing. I then tried both, but it went into the "S/W Upgrade" screen. Is there anyway to bypass this without having to send it back?
Thanks a lot for time guys! Hope you can help.
Hey daft
im locked out too, and cant find a way to do a factory reset :S did you solve your problem?if so..how!!
did a quick search for you. didnt render any answers. try existing methods for entering recovery mode.
1.volume down+power
2.volume up +power
volume up+down+power
the phone deff has to have a recovery system. once u get in there use the volume down button to highlight factory reset then push power
then highlight wipe data/cache and hit power. when finished reboot system now
hope this helps
---------- Post added at 06:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:58 PM ----------
also if you are familiar with adb you can navigate to adb then type adb reboot recovery
hello
Vabeach, thanks i've already tried all of those:S
volume up and power
volume down and power
both of them dont do a thing :S
and when i try the volume up + down + power....the phone goes into S/W upgrading... could it be that i need to do the upgrade and then itll let me do the factory reset? :s
Try this. Hold volume down and power. Keep holding until the lg logo comes up. Once that goes away release both buttons

i tried the link but it wont let me post..so ill paste it
A master reset (factory reset) restores the original factory settings and erases all user data (including settings and downloaded content) stored in the phone's internal memory. It does not erase data stored on the SIM card or memory card (if available).
Note: If the handset is locked, frozen, or unresponsive, you can perform a master reset using the hardware keys instead of the menu.
Note: Timing is critical in pressing/releasing keys.
To perform a master reset using hardware keys, follow these steps:
Back up all necessary data. See: Preparing for a master reset on Android.
Turn off the phone.
Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys.
Wait 3 seconds and press the Back and Menu keys.
Note: If you see the LG logo before pressing the Back and Menu keys, the reset hasnt been completed and you will need to restart.
Release the Power/Lock key after you see the LG logo.
Release the remaining keys after the LG logo flashes (blinks once).
The Android Unpacking screen appears.
The phone will restart and complete the factory reset.
Note: If you unintentionally press the Volume Down, Volume Up and Power keys simultaneously, the phone will display a circle icon with two arrows and 'S/W Upgrade, Please wait while upgrading...' message. You will need to pull the battery and restart.
it worked on the first try!
happy holidays
Glad u found the answer

Native Padfone X Recovery Mode

After tinkering around with the developer settings i came to the conclusion that this device soft bricks when you experiment with the ART compiler, lets just say enabling it will keep you at the boot screen. I used this method on other Padfone Variants and it works on the Padfone X
If you are on the ATT boot screen and nothing is going on dont catch a heart attack
1) Hold the Volume - button on the side of the device and hold power till the phone reboots, keep holding the Vol -
2) You will be greeted with a prompt to enter or exit recovery, of course choose the enter recovery selection with the volume keys and hit power to enter
3) You are greeted with a selection screen anything from installing firmware from the phone or external sd and of course the ability to Wipe / Factory reset
4) Navigate with the vol - key to highlight Wipe / Factory Reset and hit the power key to enter, then on the next selection screen navigate down to perform the action
process takes about 4 minutes tops, afterwords the screen will pop back into the main selection screen, choose reboot phone and wait. As with all first boots this will take about 5 minutes tops, hence the ATT Logo will be visible, you will then jump into the get started screen as you did when you first bought the device.
Hope this helps with those experiencing problems
Try not to remove any bloat/or features if there is no official firmware recovery, you run a huge risk in perma-bricking your device if not careful. Wait for the DEVs to swarm in and serenade us with features
And BTW...stay away from selecting the ART compiler if youre going to enable developer mode, Stick with Dalvik if you dont want to get stuck.

OK, I'm kinda new to these forums as well, although I do have a certain amount of experience with Android. The simplest way to unlock your device would be to factory reset it (this will erase all the data on your device though). Because you can't unlock the tablet to get to the Settings menu and do this the usual way, you'll need to do it from recovery. From a quick bit of Googling, this is how you get into recovery mode and factory reset from there on your device (note that I don't own an MSI Enjoy 7 so I can't verify this, but it's pretty standard stuff):
1. Make sure your device is completely switched off
2. Press power and volume down at the same time until an Android logo appears
3. Now release the two buttons before holding the power button and pressing the volume button ONCE (don't hold it) and a menu should appear
4. Release the power button and use the volume buttons to scroll to an option which goes something like this: "wipe data/factory reset"
5. Press power to choose this option and again use the volume buttons and power button to confirm (if it asks you).
6. Your device will be reset and unlocked! :good:

Hi jackos2500! Thanks for the information about factory reset. But unfortunately my tablet has already no factory mode that's why I'm asking the other way (Backing up ROM, How to find compatible firmware and Android flash method). Much better if you can assist me on that!

Are you sure that there is no factory reset option in the stock recovery? There should be or else you wouldn't be able to factory reset it at all (even if you could unlock the device). Just to clarify, you don't need to be able to unlock the tablet to factory reset (at least that's the way it's been on every Android device I've ever used)

Alright man! Problem solved! After second attempt of web searching, I got the solution. You're right! I thought I lost my Factory Option because my tablet only display an Exclamation point inside a triangular shape with an android logo beside and no factory options to access. The web says that means the factory mode was already deleted and cannot be accessed anymore. But fortunately I got the true answer. I need to press again a combination of buttons in order to access the Factory Mode.
This is what I did:
a) Completely shut down the tablet first.
b) Press power button and volume up simultaneously and hold them for a while; then remove power button after 5 secs.
c) Wait for the green Android icon with a triangle and an exclamation mark to appear before removing the volume up.
d) Press the Power button and Volume up simultaneously for the Factory mode to appear. Remove both.
e) Here you are, the set up screen will appear, and you may proceed to do your selection.

HELP! Blue Wave 8 33GT tablet stuck in recovery mode with "No command" message

HELP! Blue Wave 8 33GT tablet stuck in recovery mode with "No command" message
I got my Blue Wave 8 33GT (not HD+) tablet completely bricked. First of all, I know this is not really a popular device and some of you might not have a single knowledge about this one, but I hope in any way you might help me get this device working again. Thank you in advance!
Some info about this device:
Bluewave's website: Wave 8
Android OS version: 4.4 KitKat
Device processor: Rockchip-based (RK31)
What just happened? It suddenly reboots while I'm playing and gone into recovery mode with an Android and a "No command." message. Now it won't boot the system anymore whenever I reboot, it always going into this recovery mode.
It has no volume buttons, just a reset, a hard back button and power button. Holding down the power and back button goes into the recovery mode directly. Through normal boot, it flashes the Bluewave logo twice then goes into the recovery. While the reset button immediately turn the device off. There's nothing else I can think of that I can do in this case.
My laptop can recognize it as an ADB Device in recovery mode and I think I may be able to flash it via Rockchip BatchTool, but the instructions I've read states that the device should be up and with a USB debugging enabled which I am not currently able to do in recovery mode. Device is rooted and working totally fine until this happened.
Anyone got into this kind of problem and able to go through it? Please, any help is greatly appreciated.
P.S
Just let me know if there are any additional info I could give you.
What about hard reset.

Hey! Thanks for your reply and time.
I tried every combination of either of the two keys but there is no such recovery menu showing up, and I am pretty sure that this device doesn't have a built-in recovery for factory reset.
If only I could go to its download mode stuff to be able to flash the firmware...

"Long press the power button to restart the device. If restarting fails, hard reset the tablet by poking the Reset hole using a pin. " it is from FAQ
maybe this could help.
1. Press the power button to get the option menu for
Power off
Reboot
Silence phone option.
2. on that menu you have to hold down that power off option on your touch screen while also holding down the home push button on the side of your tablet.
3. This brings up a screen to reboot into safe mode..(these are the 3 steps the company does not tell you that is why no one gets it to work.
4. HIt yes for safe mode and then hold down your power and home buttons on side of tablet till the dopo Logo appears.
5. Release both buttons and hit the power button one time and then hold only the home button down till a menu option appears.
6. Use the home button to move down to factory reset and press the power button to select. Once it says complete then use the power button to select reboot.
Problem solved. Hope this will help everyone out.
The only way is to remove the battery, attached again the battery then power it on their is no hard reset on blue wave the go to settings factory reset
